Updated Mountain Lion, now MBP can't connect to Internet...

Having a very strange problem. Updated OS X last night via Mac App Store on my MBP. I believe it was only the Camera RAW update and the Airport Utility 6.2 updates that occurred. Since then, the MBP has been able to connect to my wifi network via AirPort Extreme Base Station... But it can't access the Internet.
If I type in www.google.com or any other site, it says it can't connect to server.  However, the wifi symbol shows it is connected to my network, and System Prefs shows that my Wifi is connected. When I check with airport utility, it shows that the Base Station is green and functioning properly. What's more, is I'm able to access the Internet just fine on the same home network via ipad, iPhone, and Mac mini, as well as my wife's MBP. It's only my MBP that can't connect.
Browsers don't work, Dropbox won't connect, Mail won't connect, Crashplan, Everpix, Jawbone, etc...all of them are unable to connect. Yet it can't be the modem/router issue since every other device connects just as it always does (I'm typing this up on my ipad and Netflix is streaming on the Mac mini).
Any thoughts? I never changed any settings anywhere. This all started after the reboot following the software update last night... Driving me crazy...

Shannonk6:  Please Ignore my post - my problem may be completely different to your issue.  I've read through some other "network connection" issues and many have been very simple fixes.  I think I've found a trail leading to my problem, and it was written by Linc Davis, so definitely take his advice.  Like any good problem solver, he's starting with the basics and working towards the more involved possibilities...
Though I will say, start with resetting your wifi network or try another wifi network (friend, coffee shop, etc...) and see if you can connect...

This morning I was just getting the white screen with logo and status bar with fan running.  I thought it was an issue with the power adapter so I went out and replaced it.  MBP will start now, but won't connect to internet.  I have full wi-fi signal.  Also, when I try to launch iTunes, it just quits right away.  Please help?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • I used updated my safari to 6.1 in mountain lion, now i can't go back.

i used a software called "OS X Software Update Seed Configuration Utility.dmg", it patchs something on mac, and then u'll find a new update in app store, the same version of safari as the one in Mavericks.
But now i can't go back to the old version, i can't even connect to app store anymore, anyone know how to solve this?
    a million thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The OS X Software Update Seed Configuration Utility is an app that developers use to get OS X beta versions. You mustn't use it if you aren't a developer.
If you are a developer, you can find the Safari 6.1 uninstaller in the Safari Dev Center

  • I updated to ios6 and now I can't connect to internet...need help!

I updated my ipod touch 4th gen. to ios6 and now I can't get it to connect to the internet.  I'm not sure what to do.  I have typed in the correct server name and password yet it still says "unable to connect."  Does anyone know what I can do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I accidentally changed network settings and now I can't connect to internet

(I posted this on the board for OS X 10.4, but I figured my OS is irrelevant to my problem, so I thought I'd post it here for a better chance of getting help)
I accidentally changed some network settings on one of the computers on my network, and now it wont connect to the internet. All the other computers on the network work fine. I guess I need help getting things back to how they were.
I have absolutely no experience with networks, so I don't have a clue what to do. One thing I notice that might be of help is that when it's set to "Configure: Using DHCP," the section for "Router:" is blank. No address. The router address on all the other computers is 192.168.1.1. Similarly, the IP address on all the computers is some variation of 192.168.1.x, but on the problem computer it's a completely random number (as far as I can tell).
Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
    Thanks!

Open Network preferences on the computer, select the connection method, click on the Advanced button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and set the Configure IPv4 drop down menu to DHCP. Click on the Apply button.
BTW, you need to post your questions in the appropriate forum which would have been the appropriate Tiger forum. This is the Snow Leopard forum.

  • New airport express has error, now network can't connect to internet to

Purchased new airport express to use solely for airplay, ran airport utility and there was an error. Now airport express is not recognized and wireless network (Fios router) has no internet connection.

It's optional, but in my opinion, it would still be a good idea to perform the complete network power cycle that I outlined above.  This will give the network a "fresh start" and minimize the chances of an error occurring during the setup of the Express.
Perform a Factory Default Reset as suggested by Tesserax above.
Temporarily, locate the Express in the same room or close proximity to the Actiontec modem/router and power it on for a few minutes. Do not connect an Ethernet cable to the Express, as it will be configured using wireless.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station
Click on AirPort Express just below that listing
That will get the setup "wizard" running to take a minute to analyze the network and likely suggest that the Express be setup to extend the Actiontec network.
Technically, it cannot do this, but it should be able to join the Actiontec network for use with AirPlay if the security settings on the Actionec are compatible with the Express.
Enter a name that you want to call the Express and then click the Other Options button.
Select the Add to an existing network option, if not already selected, and click Next
Follow the prompts, making sure that the name of the network and password are entered correctly.
If the setup is successful, you will see a message of Setup Complete and the Express will display a green light. Click Done and move the Express to the desired location and power it back up again.  The Express needs to be located where it can receive a good quality signal from the modem/router wireless.

  • Can't connect to Internet via Airport

I have a PPPOE ISP account. Before upgrade to Lepoard, just fine. Now I can only connect to internet using cable via my router moderm. I cannot connect my wireless router.
The wireless router will appear to be connected but it said self assigned IP. If I hardcode an IP eg. 192.168.11.2 to it. The Airport status will become connected but still cannot dial into my PPPOE account. An message no PPPOE service will appear. But if I plug in the LAN cable, everything work fine. Why this happen? My wireless router work fine with my Window XP and my Mac (before upgrade to Lepoard) What configuration should I change? I am an idot to networking. I have download all patch and has tried boot to safe mode etc.
    Anyone can help?

By power downs do you mean Sleep?
One thing that might work is to set the IP to Static in Network>Configure IPv4>DHCP with Manual Address.

    Hi Chazamsk,
    Welcome to the community,
This sounds like you could be behind a firewall or an antivirus program is not allowing this device to work online.
I would suggest going through your firewall settings and add PC Companion to the exceptions list.
let us know how you get on.

New problem, after pcc can install in my pc, now it can't connect to internet. It makes "not accesible". I have tried to find other solutions from other resource. But none of them works to solve my problem. Please give best solution....

  • Just updated my iPad 2 to OS7 and now I can't connect it to iTunes 10 on my MacBook OS 10.5.8 My MacBook can't be updated to Mountain Lion as it is early 2008 white MacBook

Just updated my iPad 2 to OS7 and now I can't connect it to iTunes 10 on my MacBook OS 10.5.8
My MacBook is too old and  can't be updated to Mountain Lion as it is early 2008 white MacBook.
It all worked perfectly prior to updating the iPad 2 to OS7.
There were no cautions or warnings
    Are there any work arounds?
Can I uninstall OS7 and go back to OS6?
Rediculous thing is I can connect to iTunes on an old PC of the same age

Thanks for your comments but this doesn't help my situation at all.
Again Apple fails to provide backward support for its own products.
I could go to the trouble of hacking the MacBook and running Mountain Lion and iTunes 11 that way
I think I will just move across to a PC as a result of this Apple strategy and I think I will just give up on Apples short lived product strategy.
A laptop that lasts five years indicates a long lived product strategy.  Where they go wrong is to prevent backwards strategy when someone genuinely cannot live with ios7 like you. even the "unsupported" downgrade has now been blocked.
Don't go windows,  you will not get five good years from a dell or an asus. If you can't buy Mountain Lion for it,  get a new macbook, enjoy.

  • Updated mountain lion today now can't sign in to access my computer

Updated Mountain Lion today and now cannot sign in to access computer.  Changed my password on Apple ID but no luck.  Talked to tech, not eligible for tech support.  Can someone help......

You say 'sign in to access computer'. Are you talking about the main login screen when you first boot the Mac up? If so then that's completely different to an Apple ID and you need to go about resetting that PW in a different manner.
Apple ID's are used for purchases through the iTunes Store, the Mac App Store and for logging into iCloud.

  • I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

Depending upon how extensive your library of legacy Microsoft Office data files are, you may want to consider continuing to use Microsoft Office 2004.
Microsoft Office's 2011 version is compatible with Lion and presumably either works with Mountain Lion or an update will make it so.  The problem with this approach is that Office 2011 will "convert" your earlier data files and there lies the rub!  For example, I have the need to weekly open a chart created in Excel 2004, but Excel 2011 trashes the chart in its "conversion."
So I have approached the overall problem differently.
The reason your applications do not work in Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006.  When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So for those of use that need to run Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:
    And now Mountain Lion:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions into Parallels 7 are here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
Snow Leopard is $29 and Parallels 7 is $79 retail (cheaper from competitive sources) and Parallels offers a 14 day free trial of Parallels 7 on their website:

  • After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails

    After Updating Mountain Lion, Mail & Safari keep crashing; WLAN Connection fails;
I have updatet Mountain Lion and since then, Mail & Safari keep crashing plus: WLAN Connections keeps on failing from time to time.
My Router has the newest firmware, i am clueless what to do.
I even cannot shut down my mac properly.

    Hello you all,
I also had the problem of a disconnecting wifi while my imac was sleeping. I did not have the reconnecting issue after sleep, but the lost connection issue during sleep which made it impossible to reach my imac for things like homesharing, apple tv or remote desktop. I have a late 2012 iMac with a clean ML 10.8.2 on it and wirelessly connected to an apple time capsule (same as an airport extreme). My partner has a mid 2007 iMac, also with an ML 10.8.2 on it.
I tried every single solution I could find on the internet, such as changing the router's security from wpa2 to wpa, changing the MTU from automatic to manual 1453, router reboots, re-installations, re-configurations, keychain clean-ups, everything.
Eventually I solved my problem with these steps and now it works as a charm. I can still find the iMac with the remote app, even after 12 hours of sleep:
My time capsule router is set on automatic MTU and encrypted with WPA2 and I use  the 5Ghz network!
    1. Cleaned all the wifi passwords in keychain on my iMac
    2. Created a new network location in system preferences
    3. In this location I deleted the bluetooth pan and bluetooth dun connection.
    4. In this location I changed the preferred connection-order to wifi on #1 and ethernet on #2.
    5. Restarted my iMac.
Now I still have a connection when it sleeps and I can wake it to low profile using the remote app (homesharing) and everything works fine.
Hope more people wille be helped by this.
