Updates to Photoshop CC don't seem to work.

I've installed Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC and Bridge CC, and they seem to work properly.
Several times a day, the update dialogue appears, announcing that updates are available (bug fixes). Several times I've clicked the blue Update buttons, and they appear to show the updates being installed (the bar progresses to 100% and the green check mark appears.) But then the next day the same dialogue appears, announcing updates available.
I can't tell whether the updates failed to install, despite the indicators showing they did. Or if the updates did install, maybe the update manager can't figure that out.
Thanks greatly for any help you can give me.

My current Bridge CC version is 6.0.1.6
Current Extension Manager CC version is 7.1.1.32
Current Photoshop CC version is 14.1.2 x 64
Current Camera Raw CC version is 8.3.0.141
I updated all the above again today. The version numbers were identical, ie unchanged, before and after the "update."
I see that others seem to be experiencing the same problem.

How do I get all my fonts to work. I upgraded the OS and the old fonts don't seem to work.

If the fonts are installed on the OS they should be there already. If they were only available to CS5 they are probably in the fonts folder in the Adobe section of the Common files (location will be OS dependent), or they may be in ID's own fonts folder.

I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files which I can't get into i-tunes. When the library was in Windows, i-tunes would convert the files automatically, but this doesn't happen now. I've downloaded a couple of file converters, but these don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

iTunes for Windows (but not iTunes for Mac) can import and convert unprotected WMA tracks. If the tracks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) then it will not accept them.
One option would be to install iTunes on your PC, do the conversion, and then transfer the converted tracks from iTunes on your PC to iTunes on your Mac.

  • Updates don't seem to work...

I've been using FF8 beta for almost a month. For the last few weeks there's been an "update available" type popup in the notification area (I'm using Vista) but then the update doesn't load or something.
    1) The "connecting to update server" bar keeps moving, but apparently no connection is made. After a while I close it or minimize it then check later, but no update is ever done.
    2) When I check Help>About it shows just v8.0. So I can't tell if I have a newer build than what I first installed.
    Thanks for any info.

  • The Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down keyboard short cuts don't seem to work anymore. Can we get this back?

Until the latest update (I'm guessing v 34.x), the search bar's icon would show you the currently selected default search engine. I understand that Google is no longer paying to be the default... That I was expecting and isn't my issue....
I used to be able to use Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down to change the default search engine (maybe default isn't the right term... but it changed what was used when I hit <Enter> or <Alt+Enter>). Now, there's no support for this as far as I can tell.
This shortcut page (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly) still references it, but it doesn't seem to work.
As a sort of side note: Where typically, middle clicking on anything opens stuff up in a new tab, that behavior does not seem to carry over when clicking one of the non-default options in the search context menu. I've always appreciated that Firefox was very consistent about respecting the middle click as "do this in a new tab" what seems EVERYWHERE.

If you start typing a search term then a drop-down list opens.
You can use the Tab key to select other search engines that show on the bottom bar.
If you want to restore the previously used standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *<b>about:config</b> page: <b>browser.search.showOneOffButtons</b> = false
You need to close and restart Firefox to make this work properly.

  • Color profiles don't seem to work since 2.1 update

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67 (last of the motorola chips) running 10.4.11.
I have used aperture for a year and love it... When I upgraded to aperture 2.1 and security update at the end of March my print profiles for my Canon IP5200 seemed to stop working and my once wonderful prints where no longer true to my on screen image. I have not been able to verify if it is aperture's problem or something I am doing wrong. I have not seen any recent printing/color managements issues in this discussion group and wonder if anyone else is having the same problem.
I wonder if upgrading to Mac OS 10.5 would fix the problem. Thanks for any help.

Okay Rich, I hope I can help.
The main difference with the Pro9000 and the other Canon printers I use (iP8500, 6700d) is that to get the best prints I turn off "Black Point Compensation" when printing from Aperture. With it on, the colors are slightly washed out, but with it off they're spot on.
So, say I'm printing a 4 x 6 on Canon's Photo Paper Plus Glossy paper, my settings would be as follows:
    _Aperture Print Dialogue Box_
Printer: Canon Pro9000 (I have the latest driver installed which was posted 4/10/2008 & the 10.1 CUPS driver)
    Paper Size: 4 x 6 Borderless
Orientation: I don't use "Best Fit", I specify landscape or portrait
ColorSync Profile: with this paper I use "Canon Pro9000 SP1"
Black Point Compensation: Off (again, this is turned on in Photoshop & when I print to my other Canon printers. The Pro9000 handles the blacks without issue, so turn it off.)
    Gamma: 1.00 (same on iP8500, 1.05 with 6700d)
    _Print Settings_
Quality & Media: Photo Paper Plus Glossy, Detailed Setting, Slider all the way to the right (Fine)
Color Options: Brightness is the only option available, I leave it as "Normal"
Borderless Printing: Amount of Extension all the way to the left at "Min"
With those settings, and a good calibration on my main display, I'm getting great, accurate prints. I just went through the process today of profiling my system using an Eye-One Display 2, and things are looking even better than before. If you head over to http://www.gballard.net/nca.html you can get a great test image near the bottom of the page to calibrate with (a good site on color mangement, although I get better results with the ColorSync workflow in Photoshop).
I hope that helps with your Pro9000 issues Rich, best of luck!

  • Sa-update runs but rules don't seem to execute after restore

    Hello,
After a hardware-related issue I needed to do a server restore.  In general, things seem to be up and running.
One problem:  the spam volume has increased.  As I scanned through sample messages, I think the issue is that the rule sets that sa-update keeps current are downloading but not actualy being run.  I don't see any errors to suggest per se, just circumstanial indications elsewhere.  For example, the additional scoring parameters aren't showing up in headers added by amavisd in the mail messages, suggesting they're not being run.
I am admittedly not very experienced with managing the rule sets.  If anyone has any advice on what's going on (or a means to verify that they are running) -- I would be most appreciative.
    Thanks.

    Hi Joe,
Actually I was accessing DU with the restore disk in the drive, but no menu. Didn't have to hold any key down during startup. It would either want to install or give me access to DU. I did all the DU stuff numerous times. Sometimes it would give me errors on verify at which point I would repair until it said it was ok, other times it said it was ok. After each time, I tried to install...no go.
Holding C down only gives me the ? screen. I have to hold Option. That's how I figured out how to get to the cd's menu. Tried DU fixes from there...no go. I'm on my second attempt at restoring, but the copying bar is moving so slowly that it will take days at this rate. It's about 1/10th of the way after about 3 hours now. At this point I don't even think it's making any progress. No sounds from the optical drive. I think I hear the hd working, but not positive.
The first time it seemed to stall, I forced quit and when I went to DU, it showed Powerbook G4 software on the HD, which is what the optical drive lists is on the cd. It still wouldn't start without the cd in there tho. How long should this restore take if it's working?
This is driving me nuts...very frustrating. Nothing about a pc seems to apply here. At least on a pc, when you erase &/or partition a drive, you can install the os. I am absolutely regretting not getting a pc notebook instead. I'm a Digital Media Design student and instead of working elsewhere on projects that have deadlines, I'm not only not working on my projects, but am stuck at home bouncing between 3 computers (pc for internet, imac for converting downloaded files that aren't helping, and getting absolutely nowhere with this notebook. Sorry for venting, but I'm pretty proud of myself for not using profanity at this point.

  • I have an 8GB Ipod Touch 2nd Gen.  The apps I already purchased don't seem to work anymore and when I go to re-install, I can't because it says I need a software update.  How can I get access to the apps that I purchased?

Due to having a gen 2 Ipod, I can't download any apps from the app store.  Plus, many of my previously downloaded apps (that I bought) aren't working...so I can't even re-download them since I still have 4.2.1.  HELP!!!  Rediculous that I can't use apps I paid for on the same device that I purchased them on.
    <Edited by Host>

A 2G iPod can only go as high as 4.2.1
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Update to 7.2.1 don't seem to work correctly

    Hi,
I have buy a new Airport Extrem Base Station. I can use it to go to Internet. The Airport Utility (Version 5.2.1) try by start to update to 7.2.1.
My Base Station Version is actually 7.0. Wenn I accept to install the firmeware upgrade to 7.2.1, the Airport Utility termin successfully. But after it has restarted the Airport Extrem Base Station, the Version is still to version 7.0. It has made no change !
I have used both method to try to install this firmeware update, manually and automatically.
Has somewhere somebody the same problem ?
    Thanks for your help

The keyboard command for Zoom In and Zoom Out works as you would expect. To help you understand why they aren't working, try the following.
Without pressing any other key, press the "<"," in your text field? The reason you get the preferences menu when adding the Command key to this is because "Command ," is the keyboard command for the preferences in Pages, and Safari etc.
In order to Zoom In or Out you just add the Shift key modifier, just as you would to type a "<" or ">" character.
I will admit that this isn't intuitive on Apple's part. Since most shortcut keys, or hotkeys, just use letters, the menu will use the "arrow pointing up" symbol to identify when you need to use the Shift modifier. In the case of the ",<" key, it is dual purpose. Apple assumes that you will know to add Shift to get the "<" character.
Hopefully that clears this up for anyone else interested.

  • Setting text size in Photoshop script doesn't seem to work

I have written a script and used it for several years to take metadata and place it on a PSD file as a layer as 12 point text.
This script runs fine on my main desktop computer running Win7 and Photoshop CS 6.
I moved the script to my laptop running Win 8.1 and Photoshop CC 2014 (latest updates applied).
When the script hits the line:
    TextRef.size = new UnitValue(12,'pt');
the "size" value does not change3.  I set a breakpoint and traced the code leading up to the like and the TextRef.size value in the data browser is "2.88px" before and after the line is executed.  The resulting text is placed in the text layer as a 2.88 point font (i.e. "squint-font") rather than the 12 point font desired.
It is the *exact* script on both computers and runs perfect on one and seems to skip the line of code.  I checked that the Units and Rulers preferences are the same on both systems.
I am stumped.  Can anyone help point me a further direction to look at this?
    Thank you!
    -Mike

If finally found references to this problem as something others have found in CC+.  I have tried some of the suggested functions to work around the problem, but I get errors that some of the requested calls are not supported in in this version of PS.  You read more on this thread: Did CC 2014.2 break textItem.size?
I am going to dust off an old laptop with CS6 on it and use it until this problem is fix in CC.
    Ugh...

  • Time Machine and Time Capsule don't seem to work well together?

    Reposted.
I get the feeling there are some serious problems with the combination of Time Machine and Time Capsule.
This is extremely disappointing, as the idea of a centralized backup device on the network (instead of disks attached to each and every computer we have running Leopard) seemed like such a good idea and a good way to supplement our tape-based backup that takes place with Retrospect.
In reality, it's a disaster on both Intel and PowerPC systems. All systems and the Time Capsule are fully up to date with software updates from Apple. I have two 1TB Time Capsule units. It goes something like this:
    1. I have a few systems (mainly Intel) that work perfectly with the Time Capsule. There are no complaints and no issues at all. These systems just quietly run their backups as they should. They are the definite minority--maybe one or two have worked properly.
    2. I have some systems that complain from time to time (mainly PowerPC) but will back up with a little encouragement. These too are the minority.
    3. And finally, I have systems that are nothing but pain. These are both Intel and PowerPC systems. They are also the majority of the systems I have. The most common problem is sudden loss of the credentials needed to access the Time Capsule hardware--a user will be going along about their business when the Mac OS asks for the Time Capsule user name and password--after it's already been supplied and backups have been running. This should simply never ever happen.
Another charming behavior I've seen is corruption of the sparse disk image file that each computer creates on the Time Capsule. Time Machine will complain that it can't perform the backup, and examining the disk image file with Disk Utility shows it to be severely damaged. Turning off Time Machine, deleting the corrupted sparse image file, and starting over fixes it. For a while.
Finally, there are the machines (again, both Intel and PowerPC) that just can't seem to actually get through the first backup run. They either go so far and can't continue, or never actually manage to get started. I've checked the disks in these computers and found no problem with the hardware or file system. The installations are fresh and fully up to date.
Meanwhile, I have computers running Leopard with directly attached disks configured for use with Time Machine. One is a QuickSilver that isn't even officially supported by Leopard, with a Firewire attached disk. It doesn't skip a beat. The other is an Intel Mac mini being used with Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 and a USB external hard drive. These machines just do their thing, and I never have to babysit them.
These problems with the Time Capsule have been so severe that I've just given up on most of the computers and shut off Time Machine entirely. We have tape backups that run over the week, so it's not a huge loss. But that's not what really made me throw up my hands and say "enough"...no, that was the speed. Even with just one computer backing up to it, the Time Capsule seemed terribly slow. Watching the progress indicator was just painful.
I put in a word about all of this to my independent Apple dealer, and they say I'm definitely not the first to complain about some or all of these problems. In fact, they told me they were going to set up a test lab in their shop to see if they could duplicate these findings. I have no doubt that they can.
There are a total of seven computers backing up to one Time Capsule. They all store maybe ~40GB worth of data including the OS. There are about six computers on the other. Because of the way the network is laid out, the Time Capsule is connected to a Gigabit switch (and that is the only thing it's connected to). It cannot be used as the router, although I know Apple suggests this. The Airport section is disabled--I have no need or desire to use it. Some computers link up at 100 megabits, others at 1 gigabit. There are no network problems--we have no problems moving large amounts of data across the same network to our tape backup machine.
Is anyone else seeing these kinds of problems? Am I doing something wrong or expecting too much from Time Capsule?

I may be on to something. The Time Capsules I have live in a telephone equipment room that is indoors but not directly air conditioned or heated. It doesn't ever get too hot to be comfortable in there--the highest I've ever seen the temperature was 80 degrees (F). Most of the time the temperature is between 60-78 degrees.
I happened to touch one of them the other day while it was in use, and I noticed that the casing was hot to the touch...not dangerously so I suppose, but much hotter than I would have expected.
So I turned a small fan on both Time Capsules and have left it running. And I've noticed that not only do backups seem to complete more quickly, the reliability is also better. I am going to try some of my most troublesome computers once again just to see what happens.
I know there is a fan pointed at the hard drive in the Time Capsule, but I can't see how it does much in the way of cooling things down. In my opinion, it's just surrounded by too many heat producing devices to do much good...after all, not only is there a 7200 RPM hard disk in there, but also a 500MHz Marvell processor and radio set.

  • MacBookPro with 10.5.7 and CS2 Photoshop and CS2 InDesign- Seems to work ok??

Brand new 2.66 ghz with 10.5.7- read about restarting with command option and shift depressed for photoshop.. Everything appears to be normal.. but is this just a temporary situation??  Might I be able to avoid buying CS4?  Anyone else having any success??
    thanks
    steve

CS2 is not native to the Intel Macs. It must run in Rosetta which is PowerPC emulation mode. this slows everything up. add to that CS2 is not supported in Leopard. If you can live with this fine. Most people with the new fast computers find using CS2 so slow they might as well be using there old computers. Add to that the incompatibilities with Leopard most people just don't want the hassle.
There will always be a few people who don't have a problem you might be one of these. YMMV.
