Updating a current file in ContextMenuListener

I have a context menu so when a user right-clicks on the file, and click on the item, it opens a GUI of the file. Once the user modifies the data and closed the GUI, how would I write that data back to the file?
Currently I'm getting the path of the file using context.getNode().getURL().toString() and overwriting the contents. JDeveloper doesn't refresh the opened file autoamatically, unless I close and re-open the file in jdev.

Hi DJ,
Can you send me the class that you have working right now? Just a zip file of that file (or the whole project if you can). I'll look into it.
I did something similar about a year ago. I just have to go and look at the code again.
Are you changing something in the code, or adding things? If it's changing, you may want to look at the refactoring framework to help with this kind of stuff.
The AuditRefactor sample project shows some of what can be done with the refactoring framework.
I'll dig up my old code and see what I can find. It may be easier to take this out of the forums and work it via email. Once we have a solution, we can post that up here in the forums for others to learn from.

  • When I add text to a PDF, I am forced to change the file name rather than just updating the current file.  Why?

I have been doing the same process for months and until recently I could just add text to a pdf, click save, adobe would ask me if I wanted to replace the current file, I'd say yes and we would be done.  Now I get a message that says "The document could not be saved.  Cannot save to this filename. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder." It does this about 70% of the time.  The rest of the time it works like it used to.

  • IPod "cannot be updated.  The current file is in use."....how to fix?!

I have a MacBook and the iPod Nano that came with it. I also have a 4G(I think) 20GB iPod. I have both configured to my Macbook, using only certain playlists to be updated on each iPod.
I don't get any problems when I connect the 20GB iPod(w/ the Firewire), but whenever I connect my Nano(w/ the USB, I have to, it doesn't support Firewire), I get a message saying the iPod"cannot be updated. The current file is in use."
How do I fix this problem? I have my iPod to "Enable disk use", but everything else is OK, and I have separate playlists and designate each iPod to Sync Selected Playlists Only, and have different playlists selected.
How do I fix this and/or why is this problem happening?
(and I'm still going to ask any kind souls to check my previous posts and answer my Playlist Question thread, as that is a nagging problem as well)

I fiddeled around and I am still having this problem. Can someone help me.

  • 9.2.0 Upgrade (CPSID_50026) "Files in Use" - "Some files that need to be updated are currently in use" "Program Manager"

I have no other applications open, when I try to update with 9.2.0, but I receive subject error message.  Task Manager shows NO Image Name called "Program Manager".  There is nothing else running, that is obvious to shut down.  Any suggestions, Please?
    rick

Have these posted suggestions worked for anyone?  I have been using the same installation files on several different machines.  Most machines upgrade just fine but, I have a few that receive this error and I cannot seem to get past it:  "Some files that need to be updated are currently in use"  "Program Manager" is the program that the installer is complaining about.  Does anyone know what program "Program Manager" is?  I'm assuming it is an Adobe file but, why would it interfere with one of my installations and not all of them?
I'm using the same installation files for all installs so, I don't believe that it could be my downloaded installation setup files.

  • Necessary to "Update" old illustrator files?

I have tons of files created in old illustrator 6.0 and now that I have a newer version of illustrator, specifically CS2, loaded on Mac OS X it's calling all of my illustrator files "Text Files."
It says, "This file contains text that was created in a previous version of Illustrator. This legacy text must be updated before you can edit it." It asks you to either Choose Update or OK to update later.
Should I take the time to update all of these files now? I'm just archiving them. I have thousands of files and it would take time to open them all and update each one. If I don't update now though, will I be stuck later in years to come, with files that won't open at all, as operating systems progress, etc?
    2) If I open a file, hit update and then hit save or save as, Logo A for instance will be renamed Logo A [Converted].ai - My question is should I just leave the brackets and the word converted or should I get rid of it?
    3) Also, if I open a file, hit update and then hit save or save as it goes to "illustrator Options". In this dialog box it defaults to "Use Compression". Should I just leave it checked or deselect it? (I'm scared of the word "compression" as I just spent the last several days decompressing old Disk Doubler files using an OS 9 emulator. I was lucky to be able to do this.)
    4) In this Illustrator Options dialog box it always gives me two warnings for these old files - The Document Raster Effects resolution is 72 ppi or less. What does this mean? Should I try and change it? If so, how? The other warning is "only fonts with appropriate permission bits will be embedded. What does this mean?
Please keep answers as simple as possible. Thanks so much.

    Lala,
Most of this just boils down to personal preference and/or common sense.
I have tons of files created in old illustrator 6.0 and now that I have...CS2...Mac OS X [is] calling all of my illustrator files "Text Files."...Should I take the time to update all of these files now?
That's just a file-association issue on the OS, mostly for icon and doubleClicking-to-open. It doesn't mean you can't open the file in a later version of the creating program. Here's the main thing: Can you still directly open AI 6 files in the current version of AI (CS5)? If yes (as I suspect), then whether you update all these files before archiving them or not is just a question of what you consider most convenient. Do you prefer to have all your archive files already updated to current-version AI, or do you prefer to update them on an as-needed basis?
Personally, I opt for the as-needed route. I also have thousands of archive files. But I'm not going to open and resave them all (and mess with replacing legacy fonts, etc., etc.) with every new version of the host program. One could make a career of that. (And Illustrator is far from the only program I use.) In my case, the majority of those legacy files will never be needed again. Although I keep good backups, I always make it a point to make sure my clients know I am under no obligation to indefinitely archive my working files for their completed projects. (Anyone who takes on that liability, without being in that business and charging for it is flirting with disaster.) I provide the customer copies of what is necessary for the reproduction and uses he has contracted for, and he bears responsibility for redundant backup security of the files provided if he deems it necessary.
I'm just archiving them. I have thousands of files...will I be stuck later in years to come, with files that won't open at all...?
As long as the current version still supports the legacy format, it still boils down to whether you want to have all your archive files already updated or update them as-needed.
Now, eventually a new version of the host program may completely break backward file compatibility with a legacy format. That actually happened once in the history of FreeHand when a major modernization of the program was done. If a FH user at that time chose not to update their legacy files, then they would have to do a 2-step update, first using the latest version that did maintained the legacy compatibility, then to the current version. Even then, I did not convert all my archives (especially those for long-inactive accounts.)
The potential larger issue in that kind of scenario would be whether the "middle step" version of the host application will still run on the current-version OS. No one can predict that years and years in advance.
(Aside: For that matter, what assurance do we have that the next computer technology that everyone flocks to--say, organic computing with true artificial intelligence--will not break compatibilty with every existing PDF, CD, DVD, hard disk, VHS tape, Flash drive, Zip drive, Syquest disk, SCSI device, and AI file on the planet? On the other hand, I'm still able to use FH11 without a hitch on Windows Vista--haven't tried it yet on Windows 7. I'd love to try a copy of Windows FH 8--that was a clean drawing program--but only have a Mac version.)
It says "This file contains text that was created in a previous version of Illustrator. This legacy text must be updated..." It asks you to either Choose Update or OK to update later.
Fairly recently (much more recently than version 6), Illustrator's very archaic text objects were updated to a...well...less archaic structure. For backward compatibility, Adobe included a "conversion" routine to give you the option of updating the older text objects. Understand, you can still open, work with, and even re-save the file with the legancy text objects if you have need to. So again, do you really want to do this to all your archive files?(Understand, the reason for the warning in the first place is that the changes affect spacing and therefore potentially line wrapping, and other type-specific things; so if you are truly "updating" the file, i.e.; making it Johnny-on-the-spot, ready-to-go print-ready, you may have some re-typesetting to do. Do you really want to do that on all your legacy files right now?)
Logo A for instance will be renamed Logo A [Converted].ai ...should I just leave the brackets and the word converted...?
That's also just up to you. Makes no functional difference. Appending the word "converted" is intended as a mere file naming convenience. (FileMaker does the same thing by default, for example, when opening an Excel spreadsheet and thereby converting it to a FileMaker database.) For one thing, it lets you save the new file to the same directory as the original file without overwriting it. (In the FileMaker scenario, I always delete the "converted" because the .xls and .fp7 file extensions themselves are going to prevent accidental overwrites. In Illustrator, I never keep the multiple-version files anyway, so I also delete the "converted".)
... it goes to "illustrator Options"...defaults to "Use Compression". ...I'm scared of the word "compression"...
I'm not "afraid" of compression, but I never use application-specific file compression. It just creates other inconveniences in collaboration with others. For example, for many years Corel has provided the option of saving Draw files as compressed or not. It is a very common ocurrence for an AI user to receive a Draw file they should be able to open but can't, just because the Draw user forgot to not save it with compression (or didn't know better).
Yeah, Adobe's marketing might like to think I and everyone else in the world uses only its products, but the real world (thankfully) still isn't that close-minded.
The Document Raster Effects resolution is 72 ppi or less. What does this mean?
See online Help for what Document Rster Effects setting is all about. You need to understand it; but it doesn't really have anything significant to do with the question of updating legacy files. 72 ppi is the default, so if you update a legacy file from a version that predates raster effects, that's the setting the new document is going to get. But since there were no raster effects in the old file, it has no real bearing. But that setting is something you should be familiar with regarding any file you are sending to print, regardless of when.
The other warning is "only fonts with appropriate permission bits will be embedded. What does this mean?
You're getting this when converting legacy AI files? An EPS or PDF file may have embedded fonts, but (correct me if I'm wrong) not an AI6 file, unless the "Save with Acrobat compatibility" option was available in AI6.
At any rate, that's nothing new. Some programs can try to embed fonts in a file to facilitate remote printing and display (but not editing) without having to do the old-world "bundle for output" routine. If you happen to be the typeface designer, of course, you may not be too happy about that. So such features have had to provide the typeface foundry an opt-out. Some typeface vendors are almost as piracy-paranoid as Adobe--much to the dissatisfaction of their legitimate customers. So there is a setting in font files that the font creator can set to disallow embedding of the font. One example of particular distress to me is ITC Officina. Nowadays, I make a point to never purchase fonts that can't be embeded in a PDF. So ITC (or whomever actually owns the thing now) has at least one unhappy legitimately-licensed customer who has stopped using one of his favorite fonts and won't buy an updated version unless and until this nonsense is corrected. Again, it's really a non-issue re file version updating. You can't do anything (well, anything practical) about a font that doesn't allow embedding anyway. The warning is just a "reminder"; it's a standard alert whenever saving a file in a format that tries to embed fonts.

  • InDesign crashes when updating InCopy ICML files

I created an assignment file with around 20 different stories. The next time I opened InDesign the writer had input text to most of the story files. One story file was a couple of pages of text, the rest were just a few lines of copy, nothing huge. Every time I tried to update the ICML files InDesign crashed. I didn't matter if I only tried updating one story or all of them, it always crashed. I was working on a PC when this happened. I moved over to my Mac to try and updated the ICML files and it crashed there too.
The actual InCopy ICML files on the server were fine. The writer never realized there was a problem. All of the copy was sitting there, so I was able to go back and re-import all the copy.
I did all the basic stuff to resolve the issue like restart, trash the prefs, convert to INX, and try on different computer. Nothing worked, crashed InDesign every time.
I'm currently using CS5, but this same issue came up last year on another project in CS4 as well.
Has anyone had this happen and/or know of a fix other than re-importing all the story files?

Some might call me crazy, but in order to progress with my project I ended up having to create my own work around this crashing bug.
The problem with my situation was that the reviewers had already made their comments in InCopy and it wasn't until I tried opening the .indd file and updating the stories that we received the crash... every time.
My workaround - if the reviewers had made their comments in InCopy, hopefully with track changes enabled, in order to see their comments I did the following:
I opened the .indd file in InDesign CS5.5 (version 7.5.2). DO NOT UPDATE the document with the ICML stories. Instead I unlinked the .icml stories from the main document. I then opened the .icml files in InCopy 5.5. I was able to see the edits that were made by my reviewers and copy and paste them between InCopy and InDesign at that point.
I know, I know. This is totally a crazy thing to need to do when we have such a powerful tool (InDesign and InCopy). It comes down to, you must do what you must do to get the job done. I truly had no other option presented at the time. The project had to complete and the reviewers were not HAPPY to even think about reviewing the content again via PDF shared review.
The best advice I received from other forum users when I proposed the crashing issue was that it could be because of anchored objects being deleted or moved by an InCopy editor. Because InCopy is strictly a text editing tool, there may be an issue that causes InDesign to get frustrated when an edit moves or deletes an anchored object or frame. I had lots of anchored object, interactive objects, etc. in my document. To track down whether an anchored object moved or was deleted by a user was unsurmountable... my workaround, while painful, at least got the job done this time.
Any future projects will be moved back to CS4. That version atleast works with InCopy stories and Interactivity. I am sure one day this will be resolved... just wonder when.

  • Dynamically updating an HTML file

    hello everyone,
I have recently developed a simple web server and now wish to update it so that i can include my own tags. These tags will be recognised by my server applicaion using the java.util.regex .
However when the app stumbles across one of my tags in the web page i want it to replace it with a displayable element. For example if i emmbed the tag <time> in the page i want it replaced with code that places the current time in the displayed page. I understand that i may need to actually update the HTML file, however the File class is only an analyser of files and as far as i can see the HTML class doesn't have a way of ammending / replacing tags or text.
Does anyone know of a way i can go about this? any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Your web server is going to get "HTML" from a file somewhere on your server, transform it according to certain rules, and send the result on to the client who requested it.
I wouldn't use regex for this. I would store XML files on your server and use XSLT to transform them according to your rules, then send the resulting HTML on to the client.

  • Updated Camera Raw File for CS2 / Canon Powershot G10

I am still using Photoshop CS2, but unfortunately I need the updated Camera Raw file (v5.6) for use with the Canon Powershot G10, and it appears the unless I upgrade to CS4 I won't be able to view any RAW files shot with this camera.
Is there an updated Camera Raw version for the Powershot G10 that is still supported under CS2?
    Thanks!

ACR 5.4 was released last night and it requires CS4.  That is the latest and current version of Camera Raw.
5.6 probably won't appear until next year.
If you download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.4, you can convert the raw files from your camera to raw DNG files you can then open in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.

    Max,
It really can take very long to import and process so many images - I would not dare to make a prediction.
Can you open the Activity Viewer?
From Aperture's main menu bar: Window > Show Activity.
This window will tell you the filename of the image that is currently being processed.
if you are seeing, that the import is still far from being finished, you might to pause certain tasks directly from this panel, like the generation of previews or scanning for faces. I'd let the import run, if you see that it is making progress.
Have you enabled very time-consuming options, like the generation of high resolution previes or scanning for faces and places? if yes, and the import is not making any progress at all, I'd disable thes options in the Aperture preferences for the initial import. You can add these later for the projects where you want to use these features.

  • In Creative Cloud files when I update my INDD file all my sharers lose access to the updated

In Creative Cloud files when I update my INDD file and export the pdf file all the share links are lost . All my sharers lose access to the updated file. This does not happen at dropbox where when I update a file the share links still work. This is a real nuisance as I want to up date files and keep the link open. Is there a workaround?

I just had similar experience where I lost links to my files in creative cloud.  There was an update to creative cloud today and my creative cloud on PC was replaced with a new one.  I went to my User Account and found two Creative Cloud Accounts: "Creative Cloud" and "Creative Cloud (unknown)".  The "Creative Cloud (unknown)" is where I found my linked files.  Check to see if you now have two creative accounts on your PC.  This may be the reason????
I am currently copying and pasting all my files into the current "Creative Cloud" from the "Creative Cloud (unknown)".   I am only focusing on 1 InDesign Doc I have due to tomorrow and had to manually reset all the links to it.  If I have to manually restore all links to my files saved in Creative Cloud--I will blow a gasket on Monday! All PDF files (interactive ones especially) I have saved have lost their links--I don't even want to look at or deal with right now.

  • How do update new Library files on Mac?

Maybe I'm missing something, but what I want to do is update the current Library files to share with another computer to reflect current additions (playlists, songs, etc.) I don't want to "create" a new library and I don't think I want to "back up" the current library - I just want to update it as it is right now. What is the right way to do this? (iTunes 10)

do you mean you got a new Mac and want it to have the exact same library you have on the old one ?
if so, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
you could also use _*Home Sharing*_ to transfer content between your computers.
alternatively, you could use 3rd party tools such as TuneRanger, Syncopation or PowerTunes two keep two libraries in sync.

  • Update links in file created based on the template page

    Hello everyone:
    a) I have problems when update links in files crated based on
    a template page.
I read Dreamwaver (DW) help menu. Seems to me Dreamwaver is
smart enough to update links based on correct file structure.
I created a template file based on a sample page. Template
file saved to the template folder. Then I crated few pages based on
the template. I checked links in new files and found that link
structures are based on template folder, not based on files current
    folder position.
Please give me some suggestions on how to correct this
problem. If you know some good online tutorial or documentations
    please share with me.
    b) Can DW template update Navigation bar links correctly
    based on relative document path?
I have Navbars imported from Fireworks into DW. Files crated
based on template are not updating pop-up menu links correctly. I
manually updated every links. It is time consuming and

    > I created a template file based on a sample page.

This means that you are entering the links manually, not
    using the Property
inspector and browsing to the target file. You should do it
    this way until
you understand how templates work. All links in a template
    file should
(usually) be one of three kinds -
    1. Document relative BASED ON THE TEMPLATE, e.g.,
    <a href="../whatever....
    2. Root relative, e.g.,
    <a href="/whatever....
    3. Absolute, e.g.,
    <a href=''
    http://www.example.com/whatever....
Anything else will always result in the Template folder being
    placed in the
path for the link when you create a child page.

    Yes, of course.
