Updating data in mulitple databases

Hi,
I have a requirement in my project to update the data in two databases, when user updates data in the screen and saves it. We are using stateless session EJB to call the DAO. The update is using normal JDBC update statement.
If some thing goes wrong in update stmt in any of the database, does EJB has capability to rollback the update in another database as well. As both are in single transaction.
Pls advise on this. Your help is appreciated.
Thanks
Kumar.

... I only added this constructor to be able to run your code:
    public fillDbGui(){
        setTitle("Fill DB GUI");
        setSize(600,500);
        setLocationRelativeTo(null);
        try{
            DriverManager.registerDriver( new com.mysql.jdbc.Driver() );
            DriverManager.registerDriver( new sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver() );
            connection = DriverManager.getConnection(DATABASE_URL, DATABASE_USER, USER_PASSWORD);
            conc = connection.createStatement();
            System.out.println("Successfully connected to database '" +DATABASE_NAME+ "'\n");
        }catch(SQLException ex){
            System.out.println("Connection failed\n");
            JOptionPane.showMessageDialog( this, ex.getMessage(),
                    "Fill_DB_GUI:   SQLException", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
        db2vector();
    public static void main(String args[]) {
        new fillDbGui().setVisible(true);
    private final String DATABASE_NAME = "test";
    private final String DATABASE_URL =  "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/" + DATABASE_NAME;
//    private final String DATABASE_URL = "jdbc:odbc:" + DATABASE_NAME;

  • Updating data in the database table

    Can any help me in the code for updating data in the database table.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
    A slightly longer procedure that i'm adding here...
    1.) Create the component (i'm sure you have this covered)
    2.) Next on the button click that updates the database - add an action.
    3.) double click the action so that you are taken to the methods section of the view.
    4.) next you need to add the code that is required the update the database - this will be in the form of the above two posts.
    5.) compile and test the application
    Let me know in case you need further information on how to do this with a function module or something.
    Thanks.

    Hi All,
    I diplayed an ALV grid with five fields in a classical report. I have already set the fieldcat for one field as wa_fcat_edit = 'X'. I am able to edit(modify) the data in that field. But I want to update the data into the database which is modified by me in that field. Can I update the data using BDC or any other procedure?

  • Get the list of table's last Inserted/Updated date from a database

    Hi All,
    Good afternoon!
    Please help me to find the last inserted/updated date from different tables in a database.
    Consider I have a database called testDB, which contains 20 tables. Most of these tables will get data inserted/updated daily. But sometimes it may not happen due to some issues . We will not be knowing about this issue until we check  in each table
    manually. Now, somebody should be daily checking for the issues in this db. So, we have decided to make an alert mail to send this informations to us.
    We need to check whether any of the table's in TetsDB has got inserted/updated data in one day difference.
    I have tried this..
    SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS Object_, last_user_update,*
    FROM sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats
    WHERE database_id = DB_ID( 'TestDB')
    Thanks,
    Julie

    The solution depends on the version and edition of your SQL Server.
    If you use SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005, please visit these links:
    How do I audit changes to SQL Server data?
    Table Auditing with SQL Server 2000
    If your SQL Server 2008 or above (only on the Enterprise edition), please have a look at this link:
    Change Data Capture
    If your SQL Server 2008 or above (all editions),
    you can use Change Tracking, but Change tracking captures the fact that rows in a table were changed, but does not capture the data that was changed.

    Saeid Hasani [sqldevelop]
    HI,
    I've read about change tracking change data capturing now.
    We need to track the data daily and we need to know whether any modification happens in those tables.
    Will it make any performance issue if I enable change data capturing on multiple tables.. lets say 20+ tables.?

  • Update date field to database

    Hi All,
    I tried to update a date field to my database by using dataprovider, however, I got the following error "java.lang.RuntimeException: Number of conflicts while synchronizing: 1 SyncResolver.INSERT_ROW_CONFLICT row 1 Can't infer the SQL type to use for an instance of java.util.Date. Use setObject() with an explicit Types value to specify the type to use." Anyone can help me to resolve this problem?

  • How to update date in a table from another database

    Hello,
    I am trying to code a way to Update my Testing database from another database. In the coding below the database that has the updated data ends in Restore.
    Use ClientDB_MASTER_Restore
    Truncate Table ClientDB_MASTER_Testing.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
    GO
    SELECT * INTO ClientDB_Master_Testing.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
    FROM Activity_Tracking_AZ
    Go
    I know with this Technique the table must be truncated if not deleted first.  There is probably a better way to do this which I'm very open to.  I'm also looking for coding that will roll back any changes made should an error occur.
      As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
    David92595

    USE ClientDB_MASTER_Testing
    go
    SET XACT_ABORT ON
    BEGIN TRANSACTION
    Truncate Table dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
    -- SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ ON
    INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ (col1, col2, ...)
    SELECT col1, col2,
    FROM ClientDB_MASTER_Restore.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
    -- SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ OFF
    COMMIT TRANSACTION
    If you find it boring to type the column lists, just find the table in Object Explorer, and drag the columns node to where you want the column list.
    You need the SET IDENTITY_INSERT command if the table has an IDENTITY column.
    By wrapping the code in a transaction, you are not left with an empty table if the INSERT fails. The command SET XACT_ABORT ON makes sure that the batch is aborted and rolled back in case of an error.

  • Updating array data in sql database

    HI,
    Im facing problems in updating array data in SQL database.
    As of now, i am able to write an "insert" query and insert array data in an image datatype field. Im using image datatype because the array size is very big(around 80,000 x and y values).
    Althoug inserting data is easy im unable to write a query to update this data.
    Referring to the help of SQL server and Labview database connectivity toolkit, i came across a method of accessing image datatype....using textpointers, which are 16 bit binary values and using the WRITETEXT function instead of the UPDATE function.
    but the problem im facing is that ive to pass the array as a 2d string array in the query as a result the updated array is retrieved in the form of a string a
    nd not as an array. how do I get over this problem?

    Hi Pavitra,
    I'm not very clear on how you have inserted the data into your application, but I do know that when you call the UPDATETEXT or WRITETEXT function you use the TEXTPOINTERS to point to the first location of a 1d array. So, depending on how you've stored the data, you may have problems updating your data if you're looking at it as a 1d array instead of how you originally formatted it. If you are able to successfully access the data as a 1d array, you can use the database variant to data type vi and pass in a string array constant for the data type. This will convert the variant datatype into whatever you specify. You may have to index the row and column of the variant (you receive a 2d array of variant) first before you convert. If possible, can yo
    u provide some more detail and maybe some example code of how you perform the insert and plan to do the update? I can probably give you a better solution if I know how you are formatting the data. Thanks!

    hi,
    For Select Query there is Method executeQuery();
    For insert, update, delete executeUpdate() is use
    so try with executeUpdate()
    and it will return how much row are updated.

  • Updating data from grid to Oracle database.

    Hi
    I am having some trouble updating data in a grid back to the Database. I have provided an example below. I am using the ODP.NET protocol.
    The query in the proc is a simple SELECT * FROM xxxx. There are no joins (outer or inner) at all. The table xxxx has a primary key. The proc is used to fill a grid. It does this correctly by returning data to a DataTable which is then used as the data source for a grid. Then, when I make a change in the grid and press the update button, the application trys to use the da.UpdateCommand = cmdBuilder.GetUpdateCommand() statement and gets the error
    "Dynamic SQL generation failed. No key information found".
    Note I have tried to get around this problem by adding a key to the DataTable ... no luck.
    I also tried da.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey ... no luck.
    I have also tried da.FillSchema(dt, SchemaType.Mapped); ... no luck.
    What am I doing wrong? ... is there a better way?
    public partial class Form1 : Form
    private OracleConnection a_Conn = null;
    private DataTable dt = null;
    private OracleDataAdapter da = null;
    private OracleCommand cmd = null;
    public Form1()
    InitializeComponent();
    private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    a_Conn = new OracleConnection();
    a_Conn.ConnectionString = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX";
    a_Conn.Open();
    dt = new DataTable();
    //SPS_TEST is a stored proc that takes no param and simply returns a dataset
    cmd = new OracleCommand("SPS_TEST", a_Conn);
    cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    //setup ref cursor (needed for oracle)
    cmd.Parameters.Add("Cursor", OracleDbType.RefCursor, ParameterDirection.Output);
    da = new OracleDataAdapter(cmd);
    //da.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey;
    DataColumn[] keys = new DataColumn[1];
    keys[0] = dt.Columns["Name of Column with primary key in Table I have queried"];
    dt.PrimaryKey = keys;
    da.Fill(dt);
    //grid is successfully filled at this point
    fpSpread1.DataSource = dt;
    private void btnUpdate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    OracleCommandBuilder cmdBuilder = new OracleCommandBuilder(da);
    da.UpdateCommand = cmdBuilder.GetUpdateCommand();
    dt.AcceptChanges();
    da.Update(dt);

    To the best of my knowledge, and I may be wrong here, a ref cursor does not contain any base table information. It simply contains metadata about what's in the cursor itself. The commandbuilder doesnt know what table the data came from , if it even came from an actual db table at all. As such, it's not possible for the commandbuilder to know how to generate an update statement.
    You CAN update a dataset you created from a refcursor, but you have to supply your own UpdateCommand in the case, rather than using a commandbuilder.
    If your ref cursor is simply a select from a table, it would probably be pretty easy to (at design time) get and note the updatecommand and parameters from a select * from the table, and then use that for the updatecommand of the dataset filled from a refcursor, as the metadata should match up. Probably not something you'd want to do on the fly though.
    Hope it helps,
    Corrections/comments welcome.

  • Updating Data in Database using JSP

    Hi all,
    Can anyone please give me an idea that i have a JSP page that connects to the MS Access database. Now i have a query that shows all the data sorted by date for each individual user. Now if anyone wants to update from there meaning that there should be an update button.And if anyone press that then all the on the particular row will be shown in text boxes and then the user can modify the data. and press update to send the data to the database and show the correct one on that page again.
    I know it is a bit hazy. Noe point is i created the query and the update button. Now how can i create text boxes for a particular row if button pressed and also i want to show the dataon this page again dont want to go to another page and do the same thing again. This will enable user to update each row separately on the same page and after all these he can log out. Please help me.
    Another question how can i pass some data from an HTML form to the same JSP but in a different place meaning that if i direct the form to the same JSP like "form action=same.jsp" then it will start doing everything from the beginning of the page. But i want to go to a particular form of the same JSP page. Can anyone please help me.
    I will be very grateful
    Thanks.

    Can anyone please look at it. Very Urgent. Thanks

  • Efficient way of updating data to database table

    what is the efficient way of updating data to database table  .
    i have huge amount of data in my internal table  , how to use update statement in this case .
    1. database table having 20 fields  ,
    2. one is key field and suppose 20 th field i want to change  .
    3. I have data for only 2 fields , i.e for ( 1 st and last 20 th field ) .
    i can't use update statement in loop , as it is not good practice(hits database several times ) .
    do it effects all the 20 fields for  particular record .

    Hi,
    Use UPDATE statement , check below description from SAP help.
    UPDATE dbtab FROM TABLE itab. or UPDATE (dbtabname) FROM TABLE itab.
    Effect
    Mass update of several lines in a database table.Here, the primary key for identifying the lines tobe updated and the values to be changed are taken from the lines of theinternal table itab.
    The system field SY-DBCNT contains the number of updated lines,i.e. the number of lines in the internal table itab which havekey values corresponding to lines in the database table.

  • I want to update date field in oracle table using database adaptor

    The thing is that XSLT often doesn't deliver the functionality required when it comes to times.
    You suggest appening "Z" to the time but this means that the time is now in UTC time. What if the system from where the date is being converted is running in NZ using local time? Other systems that recieve the date (and correctly handle the time zone) will now have a time that is out by a number of hours.
    You often can't ignore the time zone (drop the 'Z') as if you send the time to a system it has to either assume the time is local to it (which may not be the case... the other system coudl be in a different time zone) or assume the time is UTC (I think crossfire does this by default).
    Typically can't just append a time zone (e.g. +11:00) either as many places have daylight savings so the value to appended is variable (you then need some way of determining what the value is... either Java Embedding or a Service).
    As you mention it does depend on the use case but in many circumstances using Jaba Embedding, not as suggested above but with the appropriate Java.util.Calendar classes, is the best way to handle date and time in BPEL. Even still you need to ascertain the format of times external to the system and ensure you parse them correctly.
    ANd even if you do all this you can still run into problems. I've seen a real world example where two systems which both handled time zones correctly and had previously been working together for quite a while, satrted reporting different times. It turns out that only one of them had had the most recent Java Time Zone patches applied and there had been a change in the dates for daylight savings here (Australia). Be warned!
