Updating Labview source code

There's a way to create a .diff file for upgrading the labview source code, like with patch.exe in C language?

No there is no way build into LV to do that. Maybe there are third party tools which can handle this. You must be aware that such a tool must handle binary files since VIs are binary.

  • Opening LabVIEW source code

    Hi,
This year LabVIEW celebrates its 20th birthday. A development environment that started from a virtual instrument development tool has grown into an outstanding general purpose visual programming language. Troughout LabVIEW history it has beeen debated if LabVIEW is a general purpose programming language or not. It defenitely is a general purpose programming language but maybe not as general as it could be. Every LabVIEW power user knows that even though LabVIEW has very many outstanding features, it also have very many shortcomings not present in the main stream programming languages and development environments.
Requirements for LabVIEW functionality keep raising as the number of LabVIEW users constantly grows. During the history of programming we have seen that it indeed is quite challenging to develop an excellent programming language. All the most popular languages are developed as a joint effort of the computer science community. This ensures that the design decissions made are in agreement with the state-of-the-art techniques of the present time and that all the possible shortcomings are considered when these design decissions are made.
LabVIEW as a proprietary programming language doesn't have the power of the computer science community. It may be extremely hard to recruit the best minds of the community to work exclusively for National Instruments already for purely geographical reasons. As a result NI presumably cannot keep up with the pace required to keep LabVIEW a high quality general purpose programming language. Until now NI has had central pantets protecting graphical design of LabVIEW. The most central ones of these patents have expired or are soon to expire leaving the field of graphical programming languages open for competition.
From this perspective it would be very wise move from National Instruments to open the source code for LabVIEW programming language and releasing the patents protecting the language for the use of the community helping to develop LabVIEW. National Instruments should see this more as an opportunity than a threat.
Opening the source for LabVIEW would gather new free-of-cost developers for developing LabVIEW. LabVIEW would improve and gain more reputation as a general purpose programming language. Students and computer scientists arount the world would get acquainted with LabVIEW as the barrier of expensive licenses wouldn't be there. LabVIEW has many features that are expected to be in a future general purpose programming language as natural support for multithreading. However it lacks many features that are required from a future general purpose programming language. As an open source language, LabVIEW could develop towards a generally accepted programming language of the next decade.
As the LabVIEW user community grows, also NI could take advantage of its expertise in LabVIEW integration. The growth of LabVIEW user community means that the number of pontential customers for National Instruments measurement and automation products grows and NI can take full business benfit from it. NI can still sell proprietary Measurement and Automation software and hardware for integrating the NI hardware with LabVIEW, managing measurement data and managing other measurement and automation related tasks. Only LabVIEW as a general purpose programming language would no longer be a source of income. Still NI could go on selling development environment for LabVIEW.
Open LabVIEW would also open new opportunities to NI. It could benefit from its expertise of software and hardware integration in the field of embedded computing. The embedded computing is growing fast as every device around us gains a microprocessor. If LabVIEW would be used as a general and most popular programming language for embedded computing, it would allow NI to sell number of new products and solutions to this embedded computing industry.
Open soruce LabVIEW is an opportunity for the LabVIEW community, for the computer science community in general and last but not least for National Instruments. LabVIEW community get improved general purpose programming language with all the state of the art techniques and functionality. Computer science community gets the opportunity to start developing programming techniques and paradigms for visual programming and this way solving the shortcomings of text-based programming languages bringing the programming for everyone. National Instruments would gain major advantages from LabVIEW becoming generally accepted programming language. The increasing user base would get NI a number of new potential customers and opportunity to start selling new kinds of products and solutions. On the other hand, if NI will not open LabVIEW source and tries to keep its monopoly, I predict that it may be hard to keep up with the recent developments in programming language technology. General purpose programming languages will evetually offer all the benefits of LabVIEW and much more. NI will lose it's position not only in LabVIEW but also as a provider of measurement and automation hardware.
I'd like to hear what you, the community, think of this issue.

    Tomi

I must say that I disagree with this idea.  One of the very fundamental -- and important -- aspects of LabVIEW is its internal consistency as well as its wide applicability.  Having been an "old lline" Unix hack, I know the message and promise around open source; however, I also know the incredible shortcomings that have come out of many of those initiatives.  We run our deployed product in Windows, as a develped LV app precisely so that I have a consisten, intuitive programming environment.  All of my development headaches throughout the life cycle of this product have come not from LV code but from the limitations of text-based code developed outside of the LV environment -- entities that have to be included via DLL calls and such.  That all works well enough but, when there are profound changes to those outside development environments, it greatly hampers the ability to maintain and expand the legacy code.  I have spent many days and weeks having to rewrite VB and VC++ code so as to make for easier integration and upgrading capability.  In particular the shift -- on Microsoft's part -- from WMP6x to later incarnations, forced a complete rewrite of some important multimedia components.  Similarly, changes to the <vector> class with the move to Visual Studio Net forced similar problems.
Open source still holds great promise but also great peril.  Too many cooks really can spoil the broth at times.

  • Updated GPL source code for PX6-300d

    Hi,
I've been doing some work with a PX6-300d that I recently got and I can't find the kernel patches for the current kernel. The current firmware version is 4.1.108.32627, which appears to use Linux version 3.8.6. The LifeLine version 4.1.102 Open Source Code contains the source to a 3.8.6 kernel, but it lacks the patches that add various device drivers, including the LCD display driver. The older source packages (such as that for LifeLine version 4.0.4) include these patches, but they're for a much older kernel version, version 2.6.39.
All these downloads are available at https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/cust_alp/p/1189,1190 .
Would it be possible for this to be resolved?

    Hello d235j
I do not know if the current 4.1x source code download was intended to have the patches you are refering to.  However I will try contacting people on my end to see want I can find out for you.
I also recommend that you contact support direct and have an incident created.  This would be considered a information/feature request.

  • Can Labview output source code in text format?

I am trying to file a patent that includes some Labview code. The patent office recommends attaching code (either source code or machine code) to show reduction to practice.
However, it appears that the USPTO only accepts CD-Rs that have ASCII text on them. Is there a way to export Labview source code or machine code (from application builder?) to text?
Does anyone have any advice for dealing with the PTO when Labview code is involved?
    Thanks,
    Casey

I believe this has been done before. I did a quick search on
www.uspto.gov, and found lots of them referencing LabVIEW -- meaning
that LabVIEW was mentioned in the patent, and probably that LV code was
the mentioned embodiment of the patent. I didn't browse all of them to
see if or how they i
ncluded source, but surely you can find a precedent
for including a pdf or rtf with your diagrams.
If you can't find anything else, print your VIs to RTF and see about
    submitting that.

  • Source code for 2d cross-correlation fx?

I know this is a long shot but does anyone have the c or c++ code to compute the 2d (image) cross-correlation fx? (I know that IMAQ VISION has the cross-correlation routine but I am looking to potentially modify the 2d correlation routine to compute something called non-symmetry coefficient and would need to start with the source code). Or, labview source code for this operation would also be quite acceptable and in fact preferred!!
    Thanks,
    Don

I don't have the 2D cross correlation in labview, but... isn't the cross correlation very similar to an FFT? In that case a 2D FFT could maybe help since it shows how the 2D FFTs are derived from 1D FFTs in labview. I attach an llb where 2D FFT is done. I don't know where I got it from, maybe I even wrote it myself sometime in the dark past (probably translating it from some piece of C source code from the 'Numerical Recipes' book).
Maybe it is of some help for you...

  • Problem with registering Parser - Recompiled source code, don't see any changes

I had created a parser. I had register this parser with Ifs Manager. I had execute this following statement to see if been registered carefully:
    On user ifssys/ifssys
    sql)select name,stringvalue,bundle from odmv_property where name= 'p01';
    I see my parser....
    select name from odmv_propertybundle where id=1139;
    ParserLookupByFileExtension
All it's ok. I upload a file with a 'p01' extension with option 'parser' on my Internet Explorer. All work fine.. My parser work. But I need to do some changes in my code. I update my code, recompile my code. My class file have been updated. After my parser (.class) file have been updated I upload a new file with parse option. I don't see any change I do in my code. Why??? How I can update my parser to view change. I have only recompile my code an place my new class files on the same directory. I have try again (change on code, recompile, test) and I don't see any changes.
But I have test by change my classname. My classname before is Test1 and I have rename my classe by Test2. I have compiled this code and a file Test2.class have been generate. I have update my register parser with Ifs Manager to use the new classname Test2. I have chack with sql statement to see if my parser have been updated. I have been updated correctly. I have upload a new file with parse option and I see my change on my code..
Do you have some explanations about that??
How I can update my source code of a parser already registered to the parser take the change I do.

Ok, but they have another manner to resolve this problem. If I upload a file with parser option on Windows Nt explorer (Using SmbServer or WcpServer). How I can update the class file into the JVM? I need the restart this those server or just one? If just one which server I need to restart?
    Thanks Francois

  • Do I send the source code

I have found a few canditades to update the source code of a plugin for AI that I own.  All candidates want to see the code and I understand this but is this a safe method to conduct business?  My question is...what are the procedures for handling source code? Do I just send it to potential programmers or is there a tried and true method to safeguard the code.  Would anyone be able to advise me on this matter?

NDA at least, or something more specific if necessary. I'm usually the guying being made to sign NDAs though, and its been a while since I took that Computer Law course at university

  • Does a method exist in order to take a labview executible and derive the source code VIs used to create it?

Has there been any type of methodology for taking a labview executible and extrapolating the source code VIs used for creating the VI?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Officially they are embeded in the exe in an undocumented way. So you can't easily get at them. But you can always attach a remote debug session and get into the diagrams that way. That is if the diagrams were not removed during the build, which requires a conscious and extra action by the person to remove the according check mark in the build options of the project. So by default all diagrams are totally gone and are definitely not possible to get back from the executable, unless as smercurio has mentioned your name might be Carnac

  • Find break-points source code (update rules, transfer rules)

    Hi all,
Is there any effective and efficient way to find (active) break-points in source code, more specfic update rules, transfer rules or other objects where custom code is implemented? Or in other words look for strings in source code or programs.
I looked and searched everywhere but could not find any answer.
    RSRSCAN1 (does not work)
    RPR_ABAP_SOURCE_SCAN (does not exist)
We are on SAP BW 3.5 with SAP Basis 640.
    Thanks all.

    Hi,
    Try this
    1)  if you're checking any program from SE38 ..goto Utilities -> find in the source code-> give breakpoint and search.
    2) else. load data , Goto details tab in the monitor and right click on any of the data packages.
Simulate update -> choose transfer rules or update rules for debuging.-> It will take you debuging screen. -> Create a watch point with key word "break-point" and execute (F8).
It will go and stop where there is  "break-point"

  • Labview 8.5 application builder .exe does not run.The same source code runs ok.

    Hi,
I have an application built in labview 8.5 application builder using windows XP. I have one instrument connected in gpib and one connected to a serial port. The source code runs ok but when I build  an executable of teh same code and try to run it, it doesnt run the instrument connected to the serial port. It does communicate with the gpib port. Any ideas why this would be happening?

Additional to Britoa's reply:  Did you add the serial commuication (drivers) when you built the application?

  • Any software out there to update JDK1.0 source code to JDK1.3?

    Hi,
I have some source code written in JDK1.0 and I'm currently trying to update it to JDK1.3 - there are a few classes which are deprecated, such as handleEvent and action.
Updating these classes looks like it might be a bit difficult (im not a Java pro!), does anyone know if theres any software out there which can do this for me?
    Thanks!

    OK. I apologize.
I don't think that such a tool exists, and I would probably not use one UNLESS I knew how to do it by hand myself.
In general, anywhere you have a handleEvent you replace with an EventListener of some kind...
I think the best way to learn a programming language is to engage in a project that is above you, and meet the challenge...

  • I want to update source code based

    Hi Guru ,
My requirement is like - i want to replance all name space (/ABC) to (/XYZ) in All table , Program .
Please suggest which is better way for that.
    Example.
    /PAYMETRC/PM30  to /XYXMETRC/PM30 like Remane .
Same thingsh should be replace in source code like in source code - table is USING /PAYTABLEPARAM TO /XYZTABLEPRAM.
Same in Structre - Data Field , Data Element and Domain,,.. etc.
Please suggest what is best way for taht can we do it programatically and Manul.
    Thanks
    Durgesh

    Hi Soumya,
Its not standard code . Its all Z programe more than 2000 and using only z table . in this i want replace all table name , data element , domain to customer name space based on custom requirement .
eq. Z table is using in ZPROGRAM  LIKE  ZBAAPARAM table to change customer name space ZABCPARAM and same in data element and domain with having custom declaration.
That is only one simple example .
As i know here by two way i can do --
    1. Manual
    2. Programatically.
BY using manual is lot of time takan - more than 100000 object need to convert Z name to some othe z custom name space.
Programatically it can fit or i dont know .
Can any suggest me about this requirement.
