Updating Microsoft Office X

Long story short, I need to update my work G5 running 10.3.9 to the latest update of Office X so that I can open up the new XML based files created by the newer version of Office. Mine is 10.1.4 and I need at least 10.1.9 to get this to work. I'm having trouble finding the old updates, do I need to do them one by one? Suggestions?
Thanks.

Click here and download the file. You don't need any of the intermediate versions.

I am trying to update Microsoft Office 12.3.3 on my Macbook Pro, but once it is installed terminal opens. What am I supposed to enter into Terminal?

Still trying to understand.  You install one of the MS updates (most recent was 14.2.2) and after the update completes (before the installer quits) terminal opens?  Or the installer quits and then terminal opens?
And who is prompting for "Check for updates" ("get taken back" to what)?  Is this coming from office, say when you run Word?   Certianly the updater doesn't cause this prompt.

  • Unix command to update Microsoft Office 2008 via ARD

I'm looking for a unix command I can send via ARD to update Microsoft Office 2008. It just needs to install all updates and then restart. Kinda like apple's software update one: softwareupdate -i -a; shutdown -r now

Why go through all the trouble of trying to do it in Unix.  Apple and Microsoft made it a LOT easier.
Just download the update from Mactopia
    Open the .dmg
(for convience and ability to have it stored) Drag the Update from the Microsoft folder that opens up and put the update on your desktop
In ARD Select what computer(s) you want to install the update in
Use ARD Install function to install the update
Go have a cup of coffee and a donut while ARD does the install.
You do not even have to do a restart.  Microsoft uses a different icon for the update but it still is a package file operation.

  • Updating Microsoft Office using ARD's Send UNIX Command

Is there a command similar to "softwareupdate -i -a" that can be sent via ARD to all Mac to run Microsoft AutoUpdate to update Microsoft Office 2004. And if not, is Microsoft planning to fix that in Office 2008. Having to run to all the Mac to update Office is a pain.

Sorry but no, there isn't, since Microsoft doesn't use Apple's installer. The only way to run Microsoft updates via ARD is to either launch the updater and take control of each workstation to complete the update or to install the updated version on a master machine, create a package of the updated components (or the entire Office set of components) and push out that package. Jamf's Composer can help with this process, but it's not free.
Whether or not Microsoft will change that in Office 2008 is unknown; you'd have to ask Microsoft and I'd wager that they can't or won't answer at this time.
    Regards.

Anybody out there updating microsoft office using ARD?

2011 uses proper packages which allows ARD's "Install Package" to work perfectly .

  • Updating Microsoft office 2004

I'm trying to download updates for Microsoft office 2004. The automatic updater runs into the same problem. When it gets to the microsoft site and tries to download the update I need I get an error message saying it couldn't find the server. I've gotten that message in both Firefox and Safari. Any ideas?

First off make sure you are using the Office 2004 retail. Some Macs ship with a "Test drive" version of Office which says so on its folder in the Applications folder. These typically can't be updated. Uninstall the Test Drive version first, before installnig the retail Office, so your updater has the correct file to update.
You can find Office's update on this link:

  • Software Updates: Microsoft Office, Quicken, Macromedia Flash Player fail

Over the past three months or so I have been prompted to install updates of Microsoft office, Quiken for Mac and now yesterday Adobe Flash Player. In each instance I have been unsuccessful in installation due to the fact that the installation reaches 4 more components to be installed and remains continually searching Mac HD for files to update. Eventually I have to cancel and am unable to install the updates.
As this has happened now with three different applications, I suspect that each is looking for a common folder within Mac OSX to update which it can't find. Any ideas what might be missing?

For Adobe Flash Player plugin, there should be three things in Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/: Flash Player Enabler.plugin, Flash Player.plugin, and flashplayer.xpt. There is also a "Macromedia" folder in Users/Home/Library/Preferences/ I don't know if that is what you are looking for but those are things I have on my computer.

  • After a security update, Microsoft Office no longer opens

I did a security update today and on restarting the Office suite I have been using for the last two years (properly bought and installed) refused to open, saying that my Word test drive had expired. The Office disk is in London (I'm in Wales) so what do I do? Can I return the software to its form four hours ago? Do I have to reinstall Word etc? Or do I unistall the Word test drive?

Christopher try reapplying the security update. Just download it from apple.com. According to www.macfixit.com this has been a solution for some users.

  • RoboHelp X5 and my Microsoft Office Pakage

Three years ago I used my Robohelp X5 to create and to update an extensive helpfunction.
Now I have to update the helpfunction since the system has been updated.
In the three years I have updated Microsoft Office to Office 2007.
Trying to use RH X5 gives a message that the word version has to be downgraded.
What is the best I can do?
    Hans Gerlach

Thank you Peter.  I was told that I "can still use RHX5 with Word 2007 installed provided I never want to use any of the Word functionality, including importing of Word documents (which I don't do) or the Printed Documentation single source layout" (I don't use this either).  Is this correct?  My projects are in RHX5 HTML Help and the only things I import are picutres (.jpg).
    Thanks in advance,

  • How can I quit Microsoft Database Daemon & SyncServicesAgent so that I can update Microsoft word?

how can I quit Microsoft Database Daemon & SyncServicesAgent so that I can update Microsoft Office for macs?

I tried all the solutions above, and the many others that are posted on various other forums (involving shift keys, activity monitor, dragging and dropping apps, renaming etc).  None of them worked.  SyncServicesAgent and the Daemon App would reactivate evcery single time, within seconds.
What worked for me was to start the update installation and get to the point where it require syncservices etc to be closed.  At this point, i DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET.  (I also quit syncservices and the database daemon in Activity Monitor but I don't know if that step was necessary).  Then I went back ot the update installation, clicked continue and it all went fine.
So the answer seems to be: go offline.
    Good luck
No, the answer is to quit the MS daemons that are running (database and syncservces), on or offline is not relevant.
You can't quit the daemons if Office is running, so exit Office first.

If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.
    Parallels has a forum here:

I think you'll get a faster response there.

  • Microsoft Office and Adobe Won't Open After 3/11 Updates

This morning I installed all of the 3/11 updates (Java update, daylight savings time, Quicktime, etc.). After my computer restarted, I can no longer open any Microsoft office product (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) or Adobe Reader. There is not specific error message other than "Word has encountered an error" when I am opening the program and then the program immediately closing. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success. Any one else having problems?

been having some similar problems, mainly related to Entourage. am working with eMacs, primarily, and network home directories. have not had any problems--yet--on my macbook pro.
what has been a successful fix, thus far, has been to delete Microsoft User Data folder (in Documents folder). I would keep a backup of current/old folder if you use Entourage b/c messages, addresses etc are stored in database.
move entire MS User Data folder to another location, then try launching Office app and folder will be re-created. see if that works for now.

I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my MacBook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  It is currently up to date with Microsoft updates.  I am running Mac OS 10.6.8.  I just updated my Mac software with "Security Update 2012-001".  I am now unable to print (Epson NX510 printer) from Excel or Word.  When I click on the Print menu item in Excel, there is a flash in the background like it is trying to open the print window, but nothing else.  I am able to print from other programs like TextEdit, Mail or KakeidaGraph.  As far as I know I have the latest Epson print driver.
Also, I am also unable to open an existing Excel or Word file from the open menu - both programs lock up and do not respond.  I have to force quit.  After I restart Excel or Word I can open an existing file by double clicking on the file, but if I again try to open another file from the open menu, Excel or Word lock up.
    Any similar problems?

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • So when I installed the most recent updates for microsoft office 2011 for mac, my ical info disappeared.  Still have the info on my Office calendar but it's no longer on ical.  It's also been removed from my phone.  How can I get outlook to sync with ical

When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone.  I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether.  Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal.  The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date.  In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone.  How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal?  If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone?  All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone.  This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out.  I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

As that's not an Apple product, you may get more help by using Microsoft's Office for Mac forums:
    Office for Mac forums
The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:
