Updating multiple tables from updatable report

Hi, I'm new to APEX and SQL and need some help
I've got 2 tables, one for person (containing employee_id which is the primary key and position_id, which shows the position that the employee fills, and some others) and one for position (containing position_id as primary key and current_inc, which shows which employee is currently in that position, and various others). All variables are varchar2.
Now I've made an updatable report for the person table that can add and update the table without problems using a multi row update, but I also want if to update the value of current_inc in the position table if I were to assign a position to a certain employee in the person table.
I've though of using either a trigger or a procedure to do it but havn't been able to find satisfying examples online.
Any suggestions on how to do it (please include sql code)
Thanks
V

Instead of trigger on view... Create a view with the tables you want updated, then build and instead of trigger on the view to handle the updates between tables See this blog entry for an example: http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2006/09/updateable-view.html

  • Effects of Updating GRPO table from Update Query..

    Hi all,
    Wanted to know what are the repercussions of updating GRPO table with Update statement, Basically the client is not selected Project field in the GRPO rows in some of the documents during the Posting. Now the same is to be updated, as Invoices are created for most of them and payments also made document is un-editable.
    If i can update using UPDATE statement how will the system react? I know as per SAP guidelines, we cannot update the SAP Tables directly using INSERT or UPDATE statements but wanted to know what is the further effect on postings and SAP as a whole.

    Hi,
    The using of update, insert or delete are not allowed in SAP B1. If you use it in B1 db, the maintenance contract with you will be stopped and your money will not be returned. The consequence of using the statements is the database inconsistency.
    Just an info, SAP AG support will use insert, update and delete statement only if the statements are needed and fix the db inconsistency. E.g., if your user is trying to add sales order and after add, the sales order row is empty and header is not empty. SAP will use  the statement to fix the database only if the cause of the error is explained to them. E.g. the server is suddenly shutdown because  the power supply is stopped and it made the sales order like that

  • Insert/update multiple tables from one form.

    I'm working on an app. that requires the user to fill out a form. The contents from the form is then used to either insert new records or update existing records in multiple tables. Is that possible? Can someone give a details example?

    You should create a form like you would create it having one table. Use row_id as primary key. The rest of the process are done by the triggers - those will take care of updating the right table depending which column was hit.

  • Updating a table from Oracle Report

    This is on Report 6i. How do I achieve this? I need to pass UPDATE statement on an oracle database table based on a condition from report formula.
    Thanks,
    R

    So, there is no difficulty in this. As normal DML are working. You can perform also UPDATE/INSERT from report on your condition. So, you can use where you want.
    Or you want to know something else?

  • Updating Multiple Tables

    Hi All, Is there any way to update multiple tables in a single query. I know we can write triggers. Apart from triggers, is there any other way available in SQL Server. I am using 2008R2.

    As alternative you can write something like that
    BEGIN TRANSACTION
    BEGIN TRY
    Update
    Update
    Update
    COMMIT
    END TRY
    BEGIN CATCH
    IF @@TRANCOUNT> 0 ROLLBACK
    END CATCH;

  • Resource configuration for updating multiple tables

    Hi all,
    My aim is to update multiple tables in Sun Identity Manager
    I would like to know what is the resource to be configured for this
    Could any one help me in solving this issue
    Thanks in advance,
    Shalini

    I have used the Scripted JBDC resource as follows;
    go to Resources > Configure Types and select Scripted JDBC > Save
    at Resources, select resource Type Actions > New Resource
    select Scripted JDBC from the drop down, this should start the wizard
    the wizard will guide you with lots of questions.
    The one problem we had is in the Action Scripts (second wizard page). we found the example scripts
    at the webserver root /idm/sample/ScriptedJdbc/SimpleTable/beanshell
    the above scripts had to be modified to the SQL required for the application, but it worked well with the example databases and codes that it is easily understood.
    there are several examples of different table types here... there are lots of options, see the README iles for each type
    hope this helps;

  • Want to update multiple rows of the report but getting a bug.

    hi,
    I am trying to update multiple rows of a report.For that I have created a teport with dynamic checkbox generated using ---HTMLDB_ITEM.CHECKBOX(1,utt.trouble_ticket_id) " "----.Checkboxes are rendered perfectly on the report.
    but when I tried to update the selected rows of the report as given in the documentation
    begin
    :P16_priority:=htmldb_application.G_F01.count;
    for i in 1..htmldb_application.G_F01.count
    loop
    update umanage_trouble_ticket set severity =:P16_priority where
    trouble_ticket_id = htmldb_application.G_F01(i);
    end loop;
    end;
    I found that all the rows are updated.not only selected rows.
    and the count it gives =no of rows returned + no of rows selected.
    Please help me regarding this.
    thanx.
    BHARAT

    Hi Bernhard,
    I think that u didnt get y problem.
    When I take the value from "htmldb_application.g_f01(i)" then it should return id's of rows that are checked but when I do that it returns id's of all the rows.So I am not able to update only checked rows.
    from id's of rows i mean value provided when generating checkboxes through query.
    htmldb_item.checkbox(1,trouble_ticket_id) " "
    I am approching to the solution as specified in the documentation. "Adding check boxes to each row in a report".
    but still cant find any solution.
    thanx that u showed some intrest in my problem.
    If u can get the solution reply soon.

  • How to prevent multiple users from updating the same data in coherence

    Hi,
    I have a Java Web Application and for data cache am using coherence 3.5. The same data maybe shared by multiple users which maybe in hundreds. Now how do I prevent multiple users from updating the same data in coherence i.e. is there something in coherence that will only allow one user a time to update. If one user is in a process of updating a data in coherence and some other user also tries to update then the second user should get an error.
    Thanks

    I have a question on the same line. How can I restrict someone from updating a cache value when I a process is already working on it. I tried locking the cache key but it does not stop other process to update it , it only does not allow other process to get lock on it.

  • Prevent multiple users from updating coherence cache data at the same time

    Hi,
    I have a web application which have a huge amount of data instead of storing the data in Http Session are storing it in coherence. Now multiple groups of users can use or update the same data in coherence. There are 100's of groups with several thousand users in each group. How do I prevent multiple users from updating the cache data. Here is the scenario. User logs-in checks in coherence if the data there and gets it from coherence and displays it on the ui if not get it from backend i.e. mainframe systems and store it in coherence before displaying it on the screen. Now some other user at the same time can also perform the same function and if don't find the data in coherence can get it from backend and start saving it in coherence while the other user is also in the process of saving or updating. How do I prevent this in coherence. As have to use the same key when storing in coherence because the same data is shared across users and don't want to keep multiple copies of the same data. Is there something coherence provides out-of-the-box or what is best approach to handle this scenario.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    actually I believe, that if we are speaking about multiple users each with its own HttpSession, in case of two users accessing the same session attribute in their own session, the actually used cache keys will not be the same.
    On the other hand, this is probably not what you would really like, you would possibly like to share that data among sessions.
    You should probably consider using either read-through caching with the CacheLoader implementor doing the expensive data retrieval (if the data to be cached can be obtained outside of an HTTP container), or side caching with using Coherence locks or entry-processors for concurrency control on the data retrieval operations for the same key (take care of retries in this case).
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • Is it possible to update internal table from database table

    Hello All:
              I know how to update database table from internal table in one shot (batch) but is the reverse possible? Can I update some fields in an internal table from a database table in one shot (without looping) because my internal table is huge? Could you please provide me any ideas how to acheive something like this? Thanks in advance and answers will be rewarded.
    thanks.
    Mithun

    Hello my friend,
    You can do it MAYBE , i think you can reverse the update doing a ROLLBACK, but only after you update....not after the program finishes..
    To update some fields at once use:
    UPDATE DBTABLE FROM TABLE IT_TABLE
    Hope this helps!!

    I don't know if any FM exists for your requirement. But you may like to copy it into a custom table and modify it according to your enterprise needs.

  • Update multiple records from a list

    Just trying to find some tutorials on how to update multiple
    records from 1
    page of checkboxes
    easiest example is hotmail
    i would like to be able to give my clients the ability to
    delete or update
    multiple records from 1 page... mind you that this type of
    update woudl only
    be for simple status changes, flags that need to be changed
    and so on...
    Delete... well if they made it to this page they are already
    sure and have
    been warned that they are going to delete the records..
    where can i find such a tutorial on how to complete multiple
    record updates
    or deletes from 1 form...
    thanks

    Server model and software below.
    And hotmail has nothing to do with anything.. its an example
    of what i would
    like to be able to do...
    If you log into hotmail. you have the option to check all the
    emails you
    want to delete.
    well thats what i want to do with my clients sites...
    Each record would have its own checkbox, they select the
    records they want
    to delete or update and they hit submit to process there
    request.
    Using ASP, SQL2005 and DW8

  • Can we update the data from SSRS report to any database ?

    Hi Team,
    Greetings !!!!
    Can we update the data from SSRS report to any database ?
    Thanks,
    Anand Gavle.

    Nope SSRS doesnt have write back options. Its just a reporting tool
    However one thing you can do is to link a webpage from SSRS report and do the changes through it
    SSRS has the ability to navigate to web page through which you can capture any data inputs from users and save it to your db.

  • Add to Multiple Tables from One Page

    Hello,
    I am building an application that handles hardware inventory (APEX 4.0). I have an input page that adds data to two or more tables all at once. The page has two forms on it that point to two separate tables. However when I try to run the page, it fails and returns an error:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 437: PL/SQL: ORA-00904: "ORH_LAST_UPDATE_DATE": invalid identifier ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
         Error      Unable to process row of table IDD_ID_DATA.
    So far as i can see within the App, that column is not at issue (I am not even doing anything to it and it is nullable). I have looked into the App itself as well as doing some online research but have found nothing helpful...
    So my question is this: Is it possible to add to multiple tables from one page? If so how do I do it?
    I am new to APEX so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    UPDATE:
    I received an email from the APEX Support Team:
    "The simple answer is that you will need to manually code the DML (and query) processes if you wish to maintain multiple tables from one page (There is a limit of one table when using the built-in processes).
    In order to do this I suggest you delete the processes generated by the wizards and create PL/SQL processes with insert, update, delete statements as necessary. Such coding is not difficult but is more time consuming than when you can use built-in processes."
    I have been playing around with PL/SQL code and the end result is this:
    begin
         INSERT INTO table1
         VALUES(
              :P2_Item_Field1,
              :P2_Item_Field2);
         INSERT INTO table2
         VALUES(
              :P2_Item_Field1,
              :P2_Item_Field2);
    end;
    I used this code in a custom PL/SQL Process in the Processing>Processes section of Page Processing and it seems to work fine now. The only downside to this method is if the name of a Page Item is changed the code will also have to be changed. Other than that i have had no problems.
