Updating my IPOD Touch to OS 4.1
when trying to update to OS a message appears "An error occurred while backing up this ipod (-120) Would you like to continue to update this ipod without back up?
Continuing without backup will result in the loss of all contents on this ipod"
Is it OK to continue or is ther a simple solution that I can't think of?
That's not true, only the ipod will be reset. iTunes will stay like it was.
That same thing happened to me when I tried to update once (don't remember the version). I just gave up and let it wipe my iPod - all my saves and stuff were lost (it was like it was brand new), but I could transfer everything from iTunes back to the iPod. I never got my records, game saves etc. back, but otherwise it wasn't too bad.

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!
Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup. -

I am having the same issue. I just had the battery replaced at a third party store. The battery powers the ipod up but it needs to be restored. It is saying it isn't eligible for rebuild. Hi all, I've recently updated my ipod touch to the ios 6 and now i cant seem to use it with my itunes
whenever i connect my ipod to itunes, a notification saying that i need a newer version of itunes. However, when i check itunes for software updates, it seems i have the current version of itunes

I been updating my ipod touch 4 software to the new ios 5 all day. i tried disabling my security programs and firewall, different download programs and reinstalling iTunes, and restarting my ipod touch. But for each attempt i get a different error. i went to the Specific update and restore errror code page and got a reason for each error except for error -3259. Basically my question is: 1. How can i update my ipod software to io5 and 2. What is the reason behind error -3259?
Connect it to iTunes on a computer and update it from there. Note that the second generation iPod touch(which includes 8GB models sold at the same time as the third generation ones) can't be updated past 4.2.1.

i can't update my ipod touch ios from 4.1 to 4.3.3 i don't know why i already try every method i can like turn to DFU mode and then restore or rn the itune as administrator but it still can't it always show the 3194 error i have no idea now what to do with it. Step 1 – Open the Terminal.app
Either by start typing Terminal on the Spotlight, or by going into Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Step 2 – Open the hosts file
Open the hosts by typing on the Terminal that you have just opened:

Type your user password when prompted.
Step 3 – Edit the hosts file
By deleting
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
from your hosts file, save close and then reboot.
Or in Windows:
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, open hosts file in notepad and remove
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
