Updating Records of Container Managed Relationships in OC4J

I have been able to implement the example give on Oracle website for container managed relationship i.e. Departments and their Employees. It works well to get the employees of a particular department. But I am unable to update all the relations correctly. The insertion of a new empployee does not insert a corresponding record in the relatioship table. How can this be implemented. Isn't it the job of the container to insert the correct record in the relationship relation also? Or we have to implement it through SQL statements.. (means it doesn't remain container managed anymore)
Anybody who can help me in this matter?

  • 1-many CMP2.0 Container Managed Persistence

    Sorry for posting this again, but there did not seem to be any replies.
    I have noticed a very strange phenomena in 1-many container managed relationships in the J2EESDK1.3.
    In 1-many Container Managed Relationships, the J2SDKEE1.3 actually generates 3 tables rather than 2. The first table is the 1 side table. The second table is the many side table. The third table is a relation table joining the 1 side table and many side table. This relation table has 2 fields, one is the primary key of the many side table (this field becomes the primary key of the relation table) and the other field is the primary key of the one side table.
    This generation of a new table for 1-many relationships is giving me a headache because these tables now form a (0 or 1) - many relationship now.
    Is this defined as part of the EJB2.0 spec or is this a J2SDKEE1.3 dependant feature?

    I'm afraid I can't give you an exact answer to this question, but it seems to me that this is a work-around in order not to create the relationshis in the DB.
    I have noticed this behaviour as well, only I have found another problem with it. The relationship table doesn't seem to survive an undeploy or server restart. Do you have the same problem?
    I think that maybe a commercial application server with a database for which it has been optimized will not show this behaviour, but will define the relationship as meta-data in the DB.

    Here's the scenario:
    table STUDENTS has columns ID, NAME
    table CLASSES has columns ID, TITLE
    table STUDENT_CLASSES is an intersection table with columns STUDENT, CLASS which are foreign keys to the ID columns in the STUDENTS and CLASSES tables
    How do I specify to OC4J that it should use the STUDENT_CLASSES table to facilitate the container managed many-many relationship?

    Voytek -- I would use the ormap demo (projects to emps relationship) as an example and see what exists from deploying that. I've included the original ejb-jar.xml entry as well as a trimmed down version of the orion-ejb-jar.xml entry. In this case it is the default mapping but what you would need to do is include an orion-ejb-jar.xml with just the parts you want to control.

    It means that nano was used on a third-party software or synced from different computer to sync music. Does that nano show in iTunes? If yes, then restore completely. If not, then you may need to head to Apple Store and see what they can do.

    If your JMS provider is XA compliant, you can.
    If you are using WebLogic 6.0 JMS, it supports 2PC.
    The JDBC resource that does not support XA can participate in the global transaction
    creating a TXDataSource and setting "enable two-phase commit"=true in the Configuration
    panel.
    About the JMSConnectionFactory, on the console, in WebLogic 6.0, in the "Transaction"
    tab folder, set "User Transactions Enabled"=true.
    In your code, use non-transacted sessions.
    For 2pc protocol, you need a license or you'll get an exception.

    I implemented container managed security on my apps and it works well without the encrypted password(clear text) in the table column. Now I referred OC4J Security guide to implement the password encryption as follows:

    hard to say without knowing the code the OC4J team uses in their login module. I know they based it on a JAAS LoginModule I wrote some years ago, but they did change some parts of it. In the original version. the password was read from the database and then compared with the provided password string. Using encryption it uses a class to encode and decode the password queried from teh database. My guess is that the returned string - after decoding - doesn't meet the password string you provide when authenticating. Since this piece of code is owned by the OC4J team, I suggest to try the Application Server forum or the Security forum

    You can check the Read-only option to prevent MDM from updating your data source.
    Kindly see the below information on "DATA SOURCE UPDATES"
    DATA SOURCE UPDATES
    Some MDM Import Manager operations require that the original data source be updateable, thereby allowing new fields and/or entire new tables u2013 and the corresponding data values for each record u2013 to be automatically added to the data source before further processing.
    Other operations simply create virtual fields in the MDM Import Manageru2019s workspace, although if the data source happens to be updateable, some of these operations instead add the new fields to the original data source as well.
    NOTE ►► Updating the data source when possible allows you to
    perform additional operations on the new fields as if they were part of
    the original source data, and also use them as record matching fields.
    NOTE ►► Fields that are added only if the data source is updateable
    can be deleted automatically by the MDM Import Manager when you
    exit or switch data sources based on the setting of the Delete Created
    Fields on Exit configuration option.
    Updateable Data Sources
    Whether or not a data source is updateable depends upon the following:
    u2022 Source type. The source Type must permit the MDM Import Manager to update its schema and insert the additional fields of data; some supported types are updateable and some are not.
    u2022 Media. The media on which the data source resides must itself be updateable. If the media on which the data source resides is readonly, such as a CD-ROM, the data source cannot be updated.
    u2022 Permissions. You must have the proper file system permissions to update the file, or the proper DBMS permissions to update the schema of the database.
    u2022 Read-only option. You cannot have checked the Read-Only option, which prevents MDM from updating the data source even if the other conditions would otherwise permit it.
    NOTE ►► The Read-Only option is: (1) enabled for source types that
    can be updated (Access, Oracle, SQL Server, and XML); (2) disabled
    and unchecked for those that use Access as an updateable staging
    area (Delimited Text and Fixed Text); and (3) disabled and checked for
    those that cannot be updated (Excel and ODBC).
    NOTE ►► When the data source is SQL Server, the table names in
    the database must not contain spaces; otherwise any operation that
    would update the data source will fail.

  • SunMC Container Manager - Can't get to it

    Hi everyone, I have a small problem that is driving me crazy.
    I installed Solaris Management Center 4.0 on a T-5120 running Solaris 10 update 6.
    I can log into https://<server>:6789 which is the Java Web Console.
    If I try to log into https:// <server>:6789/containers I am brought to the same Web console log in screen
    Now: Under Systems I have "Sun Management Center 4.0" so I click that but I see nothing anywhere about containers. I have 3 zones configured on this server of which 1 is running already.
    When I click default domain, I am shown my server's global zone name.
    When I click that I get host info but no other options.
    I am doing all of this as the root user and I have made sure that root is in the Zone management, Pool management, etc.. profiles.
    When I run the check on SunMC, it shows container manager as already set up.

    when creating the zone you have to fill in the full domain name, not only the host name.
    Is DNS correctly configured?
    Can you resolve the virtual host name?
    I configured such a zone yesterday without any problems.
    In DNS I created a CNAME Resource Record following TID 10020402.

  • Update Record Problems

    Hello! I want to start off by saying that I usually
    use the wizards for things, and am not so great at PHP. I have
    David Powers fantastic book and am using it as a bible of sorts.
    However, it's not helping here.
    I'm using DW CS3 - I have a PHP MySQL database set-up and
    everything else seems to be working fine.
    I have a section of my site that is password protected. I
    have used the Dreamweaver Developer's Toolkit to create the
    protected folder. That works great. I have a page in which my
    site's users can "Manage Their profiles." I set up the links to the
    various pages with different profiles as dynamic links with the URL
    showing the user ID. That works.
    I even set up so that the "Change Password" link has a
    dynamic field on it that shows the users User ID - just so I know
    that the information is being passed correctly. And it is. I've set
    up a recordset for this page - and it can grab the appropriate
    information from the users record, and only that users record. I've
    tried the Update Record wizard and just about everything else I can
    think of here - and NOTHING is working. The password field is never
    updating. It's remaining the same. HELP!
    I have spent WAY too much time trying to figure this out and
    need to launch this part of the site very soon. Can anyone help me?
    Is the DW Developer's Toolkit folder security thing interfering?

    Without seeing the code, it's impossible to say what's wrong.
    I don't
    know enough about ADDT to comment on the effect it might be
    having.
    There's a separate forum dedicated to ADDT. You might get
    better help there.
    In the meantime, though, you can do some debugging yourself
    by using
    echo to display what's happening. For example:
    if ($_POST) {
    echo 'The $_POST array contains values<br />';
    Use echo to display the UPDATE SQL query.
    Staring at code does little to solve problems. Displaying
    messages to
    show what the code is doing helps isolate problem areas.

  • MDB Container Managed Transaction and Log4J

    Hi,
    I'm programming and MDB that reads and updates a database then sends out an HTTP Post and logs using log4j. I've read that when an MDB is configured as CMT or container managed transaction and the OnMessage method executes without errors, the transaction is implicitly commited. You can rollback the transaction by explicitly calling setRollbackOnly() or when a RuntimeException has been thrown. My worry is that after I have sent out an HTTP POST (a transaction has been completed) I would have to log a transaction completion using log4j. My problems is if log4j throws a RuntimeException thereby rolling back my transaction which shouldn't be the case. What I have done is to catch all Exceptions (and swallow them) whenever I log using log4j after I have sent out an HTTP POST succesfully (since my transaction should be complete by then). Is this a correct workaround?

    Your approach is correct. If you think, Log4J might throw errors, swallow the exceptions and try not to roll back.

  • Transaction in container managed environment

    I am mulitiple DAO methods to insert/update into the different tables of the same database.Every time,in each DAO method ,I am taking a connection from wsad connection pool(no XAdatasource) and returning it back to the pool at end of the method.Now,I want to enforce a transaction (CMP) made up of all these dao database update methods.So,container will automatically take care of the commit or rollback operation.Will using a single connection object across all the methods solve the purpose?Is their any other way to do it?

    Call all the DAO methods from a single session bean method, this will run all the update methods under a transaction. but here forget about the number of times u may have look up for the connections. but ur transaction is managed by the container.

  • Container managed transactions in 9.0.3 (plus AQ JMS/MDB)

    Something for "real programmers", similar to MDB Transaction Exception on OC4J 9.0.4 (MDB Transaction Exception on OC4J 9.0.4) but little bit different. Maybe author of the mentioned thread can find some answers here also.
    We have an MDB accessing AQ in database (this works either with 9i and 8i). MDB receives the message (actually TextMessage), retrieves the content/properties and calls some EJBs making database operations. When we used just the same DataSource for JMS resource provider and SQL operations, everything worked OK. But we need to move one step further - making calls to several databases, some 8i, some might 9i. We were able to start CMT for one DataSource, i. e. configuring OrionCMTDataSource over JDBC ORACLE driver (if you use different DataSource class, message remains stucked in queue and eventually expires. If you don't specify container managed transactions for MDB in ejb-jar.xml, it works with any DataSource class - but message is lost every time exception occurs - not very pleasant situation).
    We are trying to configure DataSources so they provide transactional support while using commit coordinator. There are some documents describing this - in 9iAS Data Sources and JTA, Orion Data Sources and possibly JTA description in 9i database documentation. Both ORACLE documents are very similar. Generally, these are main steps:
    1) configure each data source so they provides CMT support (wrap native driver/data source by OrionCMTDataSource class)
    2) create datasource commit-coordinator database, also using CMT(?)
    3) create user in commit-coordinator database and same in each other database with connect, resource, create session + force any transaction priviledge (since it would commit other users transactions)
    4) create database links from commit-coordinator database to each databases (but... see questions below)
    5) configure commit coordinator so it uses proper data source
    6) add each DB link as a property to data sources
    7) configure data source for JMS
    8) connect JMS resource provider with JMS data source
    9) Start container, send message, etc.
    So far the only result we've got is a trace file in database user dumps and generic "javax.transaction.SystemExeption: Could not commit: error code 29540". User dump occurs in a "remote" database, not the one where commit coordinator resides. If I drop database links, result is the same, so it seems like problem with data source itself. In a dump there is piece of text like this: "FATAL ERROR IN TWO-TASK SERVER: error = 12571" and "ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    Current SQL statement for this session:
    begin dbms_aqin.aq$_dequeue_in( :1, :2, :3, :4, :5, :6, :7, :8, :9, :10, :11, :12, :13, :14, :15, :16, :17, :18, :19, :20, :21, :22, :23, :24, :25, :26, :27, :28, :29); end; ". I think AQ call is just a coincidence since it is the first one involved in transactions. Down there in HEX part of a dump there is a message about protocol or network error ("probably ORA-28546")

    There are some questions pending. Obvious one is if CMT is working or not at all and we should find some different solution (Bean managed transactions or use XA, hmmm). Other one might be that database link has to be "fully-qualified". I'm not sure what it means: using username and password? Using database name along with domain (if any)? So far it seems links are not used anyway.
    We've tried several databases, like 9.2.0.1 and 9.0.3 versions. Result is the same.
    We've tried to use XA data source of ORACLE (oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource) and OrionCMT data source bound by xa-source-location to it but container gets stucked upon restart with "Investingating resource 'XADataSource PassportXADS' for recovery..." and similar messages for an hour.
    There is an OracleJTADataSource mentioned in several documents, but I cannot find any in jdbc classes - was it deprecated?
    Lies the problem in JMS itself? So far we've been able to use AQ in 8i and 9i and succesfully commit every transaction - provided transaction was local.
    Since XA itself is working I guess problem might be with configuration.
    I will appreciate any opinion on CMT... also, if you have any questions, please ask.
