Updating server behaviors

Some time ago - right after the release of CS6 - I popped a question several places, including a feature request directly to the DW staff, at Adobe.
The question was about the possibility to get the Server Behaviors within DW CS6 updated to make use of the new and improved MySQLi- and / or PDO-features.
Yet, nothing has happened...
Now, I´m asking you guys - in the forum, if I´m the only one, having this feature high on my priorities list???
Also - IF any members of the dev-team is reading this forum, I´d really like an answer to this question, from you.
Thank you

I feel your pain. As a stopgap measure, I found this from Oracle, a converter that can sweep through your .php pages and convert the mysql_ functions to mysqli_.
https://wikis.oracle.com/display/mysql/Converting+to+MySQLi
I haven't tried it yet, but I do know that the converter needs to connect to the databases to work properly, and it will not follow the Dreamweaver-generated "include" statement to find Dreamweaver's connection scripts. Because of that, the code from the connection scripts will need to be pasted into the .php pages to replace the "include" bit, at least temporarily.
Also found a post from Shawn Reeves, who documented the steps he took to convert his pages from mysql_ to mysqli_. He posted Dreamweaver regex find and replace strings to handle the conversion all within Dreamweaver itself.
http://shawnreeves.net/wiki/index.php?title=Dreamweaver_troubles#Stale_PHP.2FMySQL_routine s
Neither of those is a final solution. One of the advantages of using mysqli is to use php's "prepare" function to protect against SQL injection attacks, and those methods will not rewrite the Dreamweaver code to do that.
Also, the Dreamweaver-generated code is written in php's "procedural" syntax, and it needs to be switched to the "object oriented" syntax. I found a tutorial on how to do that, but the conversion of hundreds of .php pages will be tedious at best:

  • OT: Bindings panel, Databases, and Server behaviors in Dreamweaver CC

    Hi all,
    There was a query on the Dreamweaver Facebook page about using server behaviors in Dreamweaver going forward. The product team replied to the post, and I am posting it on this forum for the benefit of users not on our Facebook page.
    In Dreamweaver cc release server behaviors will be available as an extension. Once you install the extension server behaviors feature will be enabled and extensions dependent on it will work as before. In the CC release, you can find the extension at the location

    Thanks,
    Preran

    I am sorry to say so, but your disappointing blog post just tells us two things:
    You claim that you are listening to your users, but you have just proved you don’t. Despite the high volume of disappointment expressed through the comments to previous posts of this blog, through comments in Dreamweaver Help or through the Community Forum, you show no change of direction, nor any will to cater for the disrupted workflow that Dreamweaver CC is introducing. Instead, you are just producing blog posts that desperately try to prove us that you are “streamlining” and “modernizing” Dreamweaver. An extension that brings back half of the features is not a strong-enough signal that you have taken into account our needs. Extensions written by third parties which you claim are alternatives but are not resemble more leg-pulling than anything else. Will you reduce Dreamweaver’s price for the removal of killer features that were sold with the software before?
    You do not seem to know how Dreamweaver users use the software or at least, to be fair, how a large number of users do. I thought the aim of software makers was to sell a tool that aids its clients in, and brings value to, their work.
    As an extension writer, I can tell that the vast majority of my users are either DIY guys or professionals working on their own. Not big companies with teams of developers. The majority of those never have been Dreamweaver users and will never be, having different needs and ways of working.
    As responses to your “streamlining” and “modernization” of Dreamweaver have shown, for a large number of users, the strength of Dreamweaver lies in its extensibility, of which server behaviors are the most advanced feature. I am not talking about the code they write, which we all agree has to be updated (and we have been waiting this for a number of releases, now…), I am talking about their very mechanism, which allow us to write our code and use Dreamweaver to speed up our job by helping us to write it again, faster, without errors, visually.
    No other tool offers this possibility. Without server behaviors and database support, Dreamweaver is simply not worth its price…
    Obviously, you are the ones with the real figures and only you can tell if it is a strategic decision or a big mistake. I was a bit surprised though by the number of voices that rose after the Dreamweaver CC release, so I tend to think that Mr. Adobe would not be that pleased by the loss of a good number of faithful clients. But then at least, be honest enough to tell us if you intend to drop a part of long-term users, and stop serving us your commercial soup…
    Now, what will happen?
    You still refuse to listen to the numerous voices who have called against your decision to remove useful features to us, and in this case, we will act accordingly: we are big enough, we do not need your blatant propaganda even by the product manager himself to decide whether Dreamweaver CC will still be worth its high price into our workflow, if the new features will outweigh the loss of server behaviors and database support. If not, of course, we will not upgrade just because you are marketing the supposedly wonderful new features, and we will turn to other tools, with features that will help us improve our workflow in other ways. And goodbye Adobe, we do not trust you anymore… It is as simple as that.
    You show us you really are listening to your customers and you bring back updated server behaviors and database support. In this case, we will know that we can trust Adobe again, that you do listen to us, and will applaud with both hands.
    And, more important to you, we will have a valid reason to upgrade and we will. Come on guys, our productivity is at stake, but your jobs may be in the line too…

  • Insert/Update Record - Server Behavior

    Help Please!
    I have several pages with forms that insert records, but I
    over the weekend when I went to open them from the web to
    insert/update records errors appeared. They were working fine
    before. Using PHP, MYSQL and Dreamweaver CS3
    I have tried everything I know to do. I have recreated the
    page, same problem as well as delete behaviors and reapply them.
    Once the server behavior is added it no longer says Insert
    Record in the Application window instead it says "Dynamic
    Attribute" Further, when I click it to make any changes etc,
    instead of the screen for Insert or Update record coming up it is a
    "Dynamic Text box" regarding POST or GET or URL stuff.
    Edited to add: And once posted, the page only shows an error
    and references this line
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    Error Message
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' on line 40
    What can I do?

    You don't say which server-side language you're using, but the way that I would troubleshoot this in PHP is to use echo to display the value of $_SESSION['MM_Username'] at the bottom of the admin page. This is the session variable Dreamweaver uses to control access to a page with username and password. If the value is displayed, it means sessions are working, and the variable hasn't been destroyed.
    If that works, move onto the next page, and use echo to display the value of $_SESSION['MM_Username'] as soon as the session has been started. To prevent being redirected to the fail page, temporarily comment out the following line:
    header("Location: ". $MM_restrictGoTo);
    Basically, you need to check what's happening to the session variable that controls access to the pages.

  • Update Record Does Not Show in Server Behaviors Pane

    I am using Dreamweaver CS4 on a Windows 7 machine. I am coding in ASP VBScript. When I apply an Update Record behavior to a form and upload the file to the server, it works fine. However, the Update Record does not show in the Server Behaviors pane. Therefore, I cannot click on it to make further edits to it. When I open this same file in Dreamweaver CS3 on a Windows XP machine, I do see the Update Record behavior in the Server Behaviors pane and I can click on it to make it edits. What do I need to do to get the Update Record behavior to show?

    Probably not the answer you are looking for, but support for traditional ASP has not been a focus of DW development, nor has it been for Windows 7 for
    that matter. ASP is a "depreciated" language and support for it is dwindling. The I don't know exact reason for what is happening to you here, but I'd imagine it's an issue with CS4s translators and the combination of the feature sets in both Win 7 and CS4 not "worrying" about ASP as much as they used to.

  • Update Record Server Behavior

    Using Dreamweaver MX 2004. I have a recordset created, and
    need to update a table. When I select the Update Record server
    behavior I get the following message "before using this behavior,
    please create a recordset". However the recordset has already been
    created, and it tests fine, I can see the data in the tables, and I
    am able to insert a record, delete a record, but not update...
    Using ASP JavaScript Server model with Access databse. Any help is
    much appreciated.
    Thanks! :

    Hi
    Have you already made the binding? - it's not obvious from
    your posting - but you should have a form with the initial data you
    want to update bound to it before you can update.
    I won't bang on about this because maybe you did it already.

  • Update Record Server Behavior blows error (its part of CS5.5 standard installation!)

    One wouldn't expect the code supplied by a MAJOR CORPORATION and WEB DEVELOPMENT TECHNOLOGY LEADER to blow an error on one of the server behaviors it supplies as part of its standard install. But then again, there is reality.  The UpdateRecord.js, to be found in your installation on Windows 7 at ..ProgramFiles(x86(/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5/configuration/ServerBehaviors/Php_MySQL/UpdateRecord.js  causes an error when it is selected from the SERVER BEHAVIORS menu.  This happens BEFORE you I enter anything into the fields.  The error states:  "While executing onLoad in  UpdateRecord.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: At line 687 of file "........UpdateRecord.js":  name has no properties.  I've looked at the code and it is beyond my comprehension.  Something about the NAME of a value in the node list.... I just don't have the chops to go rewriting Adobe's code.  If I did, I'd be making the big bucks.  Does anybody know what to do about this? About my system:  Windows 7, 64bit,   CS5.5 (on a lease so it is up to date) using PHP and MySQL, on a remote dedicated server running Apache on Linux.   :<)McFrisco

    Ok, I deserved that spanking.  I was just frustrated.  Sorry for the rant.
    I've managed to figure out a workaround on this.  There really is something wacky going on with Dreamweaver and the Update Record handler.  Here's what I did:
    How to trick DREAMWEAVER into writing an UPDATE RECORD.
    Dreamweaver's server behavior for Update Record doesn't work correctly sometimes.  The symptom of this is that when you try to fill in the popup form provided by the Server Behaviors/Update Record menu item, it doesn't allow you to choose form fields to update to the database if they are posted there by a previous page.  It only allows you to choose them if they are bound to the database.  This doesn't do any good, because you are updating a record with the information from the database you want to update, NOT with new information.  Kind of weird... But here's the way to get around it.  Its a bit tedious but it works.
    1.  On a clean php page, set up a form with the input fields matching the database fields you want to update.  This page is to be used as the RESULT page of a form submitted on a previous page where the UPdate Record won't work due to conflicts, plugins, or some other unknown reason.
    2.  Connect to the database table you want to update,  and set up a new RECORDSET on the page.
    3.  Bind all the form fields to the appropriate database fields.
    4.  Do an Update Record behavior based on this form.  This will actually do nothing but update the record with the stuff that is already in the record, as noted above.
    5. Delete the php code that sets up the record set.  But, LEAVE THE Update Record code alone!  It is correct.
    6.  Change the bindings of all the fields in the FORM to the $_POST[] variables passed from the form on the previous page. (Make sure the previous page form uses the POST, not the GET method.)
    Now, when you submit the form it will pick up the values in the form, which have been passed from the previous page's form.

  • Update record error message: Server behavior, updaterecord.js

    Hello,
    I'm developing a website using PHP and MySQL on Dreamweaver CS5, Snow Leopard.
    I'm having trouble with the updateRecord Server Behavior:
    Right after selecting "Update Record" in "Server Behavior" menu, I get the following error message in a popup window:
    while executing onLoad in UpdateRecord.htm, the following javascript error(s) occurred:
    At line 687 of file "Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CS5:Configuration:ServerBehaviors:PHP_MySQL:UpdateRecord.js." name has no properties
    After selecting "ok" in the popup window, the "Update Record" window menu opens. However, when I tried to selected the desired table from the database in the dropdown menu, the same error message/popup window appears. I clicked "ok" once again, but the "column" textarea doesn't get populated at all. But, the "Value" dropdown menu does get populated with the correct data.
    I need help asap. Please contact me if you need more information.
    Thank you so much for taking your time to read my post, hopefully you'll be able to help me.
    Best,
    Alice Li

    I have this same problem. Was working fine then I removed the Recordset and added it again to change the name. After binding the dynamic info to my form fields I tryied to add an update record behavior and I got this error.
    I had already done this once I think with no problem. I tried restarting Dreamweaver and the computer but the issue still persists.
    Any help!?

  • Update record server behavior preventing passage of form parameter in php

    I have a multi-page survey set up in php. I am trying to pass a form variable to the next page, but the 'update record' server behavior is preventing me from passing the variable to the next page. I have tried including the variable as a parameter in the url, but this is not working either. Please help.

    Can you not pass it onto the next page using a SESSION?
    As an example say you want to pass the information from a form field with the name 'company' to another page.
    At the top of the page that the form is submitted to you start a SESSION - <?php session_start(); ?> - then you collect the information from the form as normal BUT using a SESSION variable - $_SESSION['company']
    The resulting php code might look like below:
    <?php
    session_start();
    $_SESSION['company'] = $POST['company'];
    ?>
    Then you can pass the SESSION variable on to as many page as you like:
    So for instance the next page in the chain needs <?php session_start(); ?> at the top again to initiate a SESSION.
    Then the resulting code may look like below. The information from the form field 'company' is being passed from page to page.
    <?php session_start(); ?>
    <?php
    if(isset($_SESSION['company'])) {
    echo $_SESSION['company'];
    else {
    echo "Company name is not set";
    ?>

    I’m running Software Update Server on an Intel XServe 10.5.8 OS.

    Or are there any additional steps needed to tell the 10.5.8 server how to serve to 10.6.4 SU clients?
    Thanks!

  • Cannot Edit Duplicate Server Behaviors (bugged?)

    Okay, here's a problem:
    I've got a user login page with two different forms on it -
    one to log in new users, and one to log in existing users. I
    applied a "log in user" server behavior to each of them. Now both
    of these server behaviors are showing up under the Server Behaviors
    menu with the exact same name: "Log In User". When I try to save
    this file I get the following error:
    The Server Behavior panel cannot determine whether "Log In
    User" or "Log In User" is applied to your page. Please select the
    Edit Server Behaviors and change one of the two behaviors to ensure
    that each is uniquely identifiable.
    Clicking on each of them points to the same block of code
    (which logs in the existing user). I cannot delete them using the
    minus sign. When I click on the plus sign and select "Edit Server
    Behaviors" it shows me two other custom behaviors that I'd already
    downloaded (and used on another page) but doesn't show me the "Log
    In User" behavior at all.
    Is there any way to edit these behaviors? Change the name of
    one of them? Right now my page is working perfectly and I wouldn't
    mind the error except for the fact that this page is based on a
    template. Any template changes I make are not updating to this
    page. . . perhaps there's a preference I could change that would
    allow template changes even if an error is encountered?
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Sylvain; thank you for the reply.  No, this issue impacts entries other than automount as well.
    So far I have observed this with entries consisting of :

    2) top/groupofuniquenames/posixgroup
    3) top/iphost/nsHost

  • Server Behavior, Bindings and Components Panels [subject edited by moderator]

    How do I get Server Behavior, Bindings and Components Panels and Database feature this is the most retarded program ever! I installed the extension manager, then it wanted the panel installed, which won't installed because of photoshop version. How in the hell do I get Server Behavior, Bindings and Components Panels and Database feature!!!

    The Deprecated Server Behaviors were removed for good reason.  The code is woefully outdated and the old MySql connections won't work on servers with PHP 5.5 or higher.
    Which operating system?
    Which version of PS?
    Which version of DW?
    Which version of Extension Manager?
    Replace Deprecated Server Behaviors with a modern commercial extension -- MySQLi (improved) or PDO:

    MongoSlade,
    I had this exact same problem with a CFMX 7 datasource that
    was set up as Microsoft Access with Unicode. It turns out that
    "Password" is a reserved word in the Unicode driver. Or somewhere.
    I got around it by putting square brackets, i.e., [ ] around the
    column name, like this:
    update MyTable
    set [Password] = '#form.Password#'
    where UserID = '#form.UserID#'
    That solved the problem nicely. I hope this solution will

  • Command Server Behavior in CS4 Troubled

    Does anyone know what happened to the Command server behavior in CS4.
    When I use MX 2004 to create an Update Command, I get the following code on the page:
    set Command1 = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
    Command1.ActiveConnection = MM_sportstest_STRING
    Command1.CommandText = "UPDATE board  SET name = 'test' WHERE name IS NULL"
    Command1.CommandType = 1
    Command1.CommandTimeout = 0
    Command1.Prepared = true
    Command1.Execute()
    When I use CS4 to create the same Update Command, I get the following code on the page:
    Dim Command1__@@varName@@
    Command1__@@varName@@ = "@@defaultValue@@"
    If (@@runtimeValue@@ <> "") Then
      Command1__@@varName@@ = @@runtimeValue@@
    End If
    Set Command1 = Server.CreateObject ("ADODB.Command")
    Command1.ActiveConnection = MM_sportstest_STRING
    Command1.CommandText = "UPDATE board  SET name = "test' WHERE name IS NULL"
    Command1.CommandType = 1
    Command1.CommandTimeout = 0
    Command1.Prepared = true
    Command1.Execute()
    CS4 does not even recognize the resulting code as a Command in the Server Behaviors window.  If I open both pages in MX 2004, the MX 2004 page is interpreted, but not the CS4 page.
    It looks like CS4 is not able to create Update Commands nor any other type of Command server behavior.  I am using ASP/VBScript.
    Does anyone have any insight to this.......or is it just a bug in CS4??
    Mike

    I'm having the same problem.  I cannot create any new commands, In addition, CS4 will not recognize any of the commands that were created from DW8 and prior versions.

  • Find Server Behavior/JavaScript Errors

    I am getting an error whenever I created Update or Insert
    record server behaviors in my pages. When I go through the process
    of adding the behavior, it inserts the VBScript for my ASP page,
    but then I get an error message when findServerBehaviors runs. In
    DW8, it was referring the InsertRecord.htm, in DW CS3, it referres
    to InsertRecord2.htm whenever I run and Insert Server Behavior. As
    I said, it inserts the code, but it will not show an Insert Record
    in the Server Behaviors panel.
    If I close and open DW, the next time I open the page, the
    behaviors will be listed in the panel, but the moment I make any
    changes to the page, and the findServerBehaviors javascript is
    triggered, I get the error message and lose the listing of the
    insert or update in the behavior panel even those the VBScript code
    is still in the page. This is super annoying.
    Anyone have this problem?

    It's probably some extension you have installed that's
    causing the issue. I found a tech support article that helped -
    can't remember where, but basically you recreate your configuration
    by renaming your existing config folder to something like
    "configuration-old" and then restart DW. It will create a new
    config folder and you will have to re-enable all your extensions.
    This solved the problem for me initially and I enabled a few
    extensions every few days until one day the error started happening
    again. For me the problem was caused by the extension "Justso
    Picture Window". Once I disabled that extension, my problems went
    away. It would be nice if DW had some way of telling you which
    extension is causing an issue.

  • Problems with Update Record behavior

    I am sorry to ask this question again since I have not resolved the issue yet.
    When I am using the Dreamweaver Update Record behavior,  I am not able to get the form validation to work.  I implemented the form validation by inserting  onsubmit="return someFormValidation(this);" into the update form created by Dreamweaver.
    When I hit the submit button the JavaScript validation function is not even invoked.
    However when I use the same method for form validation with Insert Record behavior I have no problems.  Is this difference I am observing between the Insert and Update behaviors the way Dreamweaver supposed to work?  If yes how can I do my form validation during an Update Record?
    Note that the pages involved are all php pages, therefore we are talking about server side validation here.
    If anyone can help I will be grateful as I am really stuck...

    I am closing this even though I got no answers as the weird behaviour has disappeared....
