Updating SYS.USER password field across databases

Hello -
I am trying to update the password field across four SYS.USER tables in four different databases. All databases have the same host name/IP address, but each has a distinct service_name and password.
A web application updates the inital USER table (password field). But three other databases are connected to the website in question and the USER table for each must match up with the initial USER table that has been updated.
Is a trigger best, or a stored procedure, or replication, or other? Or is there a way to link tables? How do I include the connection info (service name and db password) in the code that updates the table in a given database?
I hope that I am simply making this more complicated than it needs to be. Either way, any help is greatly appreciated.

I faced this behavior too, and the only way to fix it, is forcing the user to re-type the password.

Hi,
We are planning to change SYS user password of our RAC instances SYS user password. But one of my colleague is saying that if we change the DB password we need to change the ASM password too and ASM instances password should match the DB password i.e. the DB new password should be same as ASM new password.
Is it true that we need to change the ASM password too if we change the DB same password ? and does ASM password need to be same as DB password?

Hi,
Not true. You can have different paasswords for sys and asm. ASM has a different password file and db instance has a different password file. You can change one without changing the other and they both don't have to be the same.

while clicking the OK button, Based on the value fetched on the screen, I have to open a recordset and get the value. But, the screen loads the value to the system textboxes. I could not get those value to run the Sql in the event. it returns empty. Could any one help please how to solve this ?

Ability to update a custom text field across multiple projects in a grid type view

We have a project level custom field for the Project Owner to enter an Executive Level project status. A project owner will have many projects. Right now the owner has to open each project individually, update the text field and save which can
take a considerable amount of time. We would like to have the ability to have the project list with the text field in a grid (looks like an excel sheet) with the ability to update the text field directly from the grid. Is there some way

Which project version are you using?
Anyway there is no "excel-like" way to bulk edit proejct field, such as you can do for the resources. The project center is unfortunately a read-only view.
For PS2010, the
bulk edit tool allows you bulk editing pronot be "excel-like" meaning updating the value in rows. You'll have to select the project with the same value for the custom field and enter the value once and validate and redo this process for each proejct field
value.
Otherwise third-party tools are available on the market for this purpose:

I have connected with user name sys as sysdba in oracle 9i with password oracle.
I want to change the password . I typed password and pressed entered. It asks me to type old password, then new password and retype the new password. When I press enter it gives error message "ERROR:
ORA-28008: invalid old password"
Password unchanged.
does anyone know about this...? how to change the password..?

You may be using operating system authentication to log in as sys with sysdba privileges.
By using password utility, you can change the password of sys user (which is in database) which is "change_on_install" when you create a database.
You can change this password.

Instead it continues to run the remaining statements in the script file in case we are running a script file containing a lot of SQL statements.

One of two types of Oracle sessions will be created via sqlplus. A dedicated session. Or a shared server session.
A dedicated session can also be local (sqlplus connects "directly" to the dedicated server process), or remote (sqlplus connects via tcp/ip to the dedicated server process).
A server session is usually "killed" using the alter system kill session command. Despite the differences between shared and dedicated server connections, the end result is the same. The session terminates abnormally (session UGA will be released, session will be cleaned up, rolled back, etc) - and the session ceases to exist.
So irrespective of how that sqlplus session runs that script - the session, when killed, will cause a sqlplus failure. And no subsequent script commands would be executed by that Oracle session.

However, with the server session killed, there is no server process to service the commands submitted by the sqlplus client. In this case, sqlplus will throw the error "+SP2-0640: Not connected+" after each of the commands it tries to execute after the server session was killed.
The only time when sqlplus will be able to continue is when the session is not killed, but interrupted. The Oracle Call Interface (OCI) supports a OCIBreak() call - allowing the client to interrupt-and-abort the request that its server session is currently executing.
For example, sqlplus sends a OCIBreak() while it waits for a server response (e.g. waiting for the answer to a SQL select query), when the user presses Ctrl-Break to abort that request.
In this case, the session still exists - and the client can issue a new request that the session will service. But an OCIBreak() cannot be triggered (to my knowledge) externally from another Oracle session. You need to send the client process a "break request" (like a Ctrl-Break keystroke) in order to trigger that client process to make an OCIBreak() call to Oracle and interrupt its server process.

Modifying/Updating User Defined Field in a Scheduled Task

I've written a notification task to send an e-mail to a manager who has a contract employee with a contract that is about to expire.
Once we isolate a user who has a contract about to expire, we send a notification to the manager. The date that the notification is sent out should be stored in the USR table in a user-defined field, "USR_UDF_LASTSENT."
Updating this USR_UDF_LASTSENT field is where I'm having difficulty.
I've tried using the UserManager in a couple of ways. Suppose I've isolated a single user using SearchCriteria and the UserManager and have a single User object called "currentUser." I want to store a Date object in the user defined field "USR_UDF_LASTSENT". Date today = new Date();
I've tried: currentUser.setAttribute("USR_UDF_LASTSENT", today); //This will run without error, but when I check the DB there is no change to the attribute.
With a defined instance of UserManager userManager, I've tried: userManager.modify("USR_UDF_LASTSENT", today, currentUser); //This errored out with this error - oracle.iam.identity.exception.NoSuchUserException: IAM-3054135:No user found for the criteria USR_UDF_LASTSENT-9/24/13 2:58 PM.:USR_UDF_LASTSENT:9/24/13 2:58 PM. It looks like it's doing a search rather than a modification.
I've also tried using the entity manager in the following way:

HashMap<String, Object> mapAttrs = new HashMap<String, Object>();
mapAttrs.put("USR_UDF_LASTSENT", today);
EntityManager entMgr = Platform.getService(EntityManager.class);
entMgr.modifyEntity("User", currentUser.getEntityId(), mapAttrs);
But it returns with this error: Failed: oracle.iam.platform.entitymgr.UnknownAttributeException: User : [USR_UDF_LASTSENT]
Is my entityType, "User" inappropriate in this case? What should be used here?

Thanks guys. I did go to Identity System Administration console and chose 'Export' from under "System Managment" which I believe Kevin may have been hinting at. I got an xml export of the AttributeDefinitions for our user defined fields. In this file, there was a header for the attribute I was looking for:

I put the string "LastSent" in place of USR_UDF_LASTSENT in the EntityManager version of my attempt at this task. I believe this is what Kevin and delhi were getting at.

Update User Defined Field using DBDataSource

I'm trying to update the user defined field using the DBDataSource object. However an error occurred - "Item is not a User-Defined Field".
The code used is as follows:

If you haven´t put the field directly in the standard form the user defined fields are in a different form. This form has the same type but with "-" before it.
So so should use this code to get the user defined fields form:
Set oForm = SBO_Application.Forms.GetForm("-139", 1)
Maybe this can be the cause

Update User Password via Web Services

Hello. I am attempting to update the password for a user via the Rights Management web services, https://{mydomain}/soap/services/RightsManagementService?wsdl&lc_version=9.0.1, using .NET 4.0 (C#).
Below is the function I have written. When I execute the code it always returns false. I have searched the documentation and forumns but have not found anything. Can someone provide any ideas on how I can successfully update a users password in LiveCycle via the exposed web services?

The answer to this question was to use another function exposed by the Directory Management Web services, {domain}/soap/services/DirectoryManagerService?WSDL&lc_version=9.0.1.
The function in question is called updateLocalUser().

This database probably has inconsistent issue already. You need try restart SQL server and perform DBCC first.

DI Server and User Defined Fields

Hello experts,
When I add user defined fields to an object, am I able to update those user defined fields using the UpdateObject command on the DI Server? I have looked for answers on this subject, but I only got answers from 2006 saying that it wasn't possible. Has this been resolved yet?
I couldn't find any documents with best practices on this subject. Are any documents available?

Per the SDK Help Center Documentation for the 2007A SDK and DI Server, the documentation states...
"After adding new user fields to the database (either through the application or the DI API), it is required to stop and start the DI service, so that the object schema will be updated and the DI Server would identify those changes."

OEM 11g login error with sys user.

I have two database in my local host. one is created with dbca and another is manually created.
i am not able to login ONLY with "sys" user in OEM 11g but i can login in sqlplus with the same user(only in database created manually ).

Accessing user defined fields when multiple forms as open SBO 2005

I have a program which updates a user defined field on the sales order screen. This works fine but fails to work correctly when they have more than one sales order screen open.
It updates the first sales order screen and not the active one.
Is there any easy way of accessing the correct user defined form which is attached to the active screen please ?

Change Users Password within ADF Application

We are trying to update a users password within a webcenter based ADF app but are struggling as the operations on the UserProfile seem to be locked down for read -only access
oracle.security.idm.UserProfile userProfile = null;
userProfile = WCSecurityUtility.getUserFromUserName(userName).getUserProfile();
userProfile.setPassword(oldPassword.toCharArray(), newPassword.toCharArray());
Gives the following error:
oracle.security.idm.OperationNotSupportedException: WebCenterUser supports only read operations
at oracle.webcenter.framework.security.idm.WebCenterUserImpl.setPassword(WebCenterUserImpl.java:101)
Does this mean we have to use LDAP API's to establish a connection and set the password that way? I dont really want to have to store the connection details within the ADF app for the the LDAP.

I think this is using that exact method:
user.getUserProfile().setPassword("old".toCharArray(), "new".toCharArray());
its this that falls over.
I have a feeling that its mandatory to use this method over SSL
