Can anyone share the list of questions to be asked for an Upgrade assessment. I am looking for a comprehensice list that will cover everything required for an upgrade proposal.
Thanks and regards,
Yogendra Chechi

That should not be your business, as far as upgrade is concern, functional consultants are required for that job, Key users should advise about the reports not used anymore, and so on.
Put it this way, you check and found that in the last 8 months only 700 reports have been used, and you decided that the other 300 can be deleted or not taken for the functional upgrade but next month after upgrade is finished the CEO asks for a report that he ussualy runs once a year, what will you tell him?
Also, when upgrading Z reports some times needs to be adjusted, Who will do that? sometimes new version will bring new reports and probably most Z reports will be not needed anymore but Functional personel is who should know that.
Thant´s my opinion

    Hi,
    Functional upgrade :
Is built on the technical upgrade, the functional upgrade provides in addition the opportunity to implement new functionalities in area like FI,HR,Logistics ..,this upgrade type also represents an opportunity to maximize the use of SAP standard functionalities by replacing custom modifications and consolidate instance or systems.

  • Questions on pre upgrade assessment

Pl. tell me what can be the typical questions asked to the client on Pre Upgrade assessment of SAP BI (latest version)

    Hi,
You have asked a lot in one single question....but i'll try to summarize..
First as you are doing pre-assesment of BI Upgrade, you need to find the existing loopholes in the current systems that can be filled in by the upgrade and same need to be conveyed to the customer. After that it's customer's who has to answer or make choice if he is ready for the upgrade or not.
Secondly, If customer is aware of what are the requirements then you need to get all of them in clear cut understanding, which will enable you to pre-assess on if the said goals can be achieved or not.
Third, Involvement of end-user, superusers and consultants from the customer in upgrade , the timeline , the budget, the Hardware & Software procurement things and so on...the list is dependent on what are you upgrading and what are the prerequisites for the same.
    Hope this helps
    Regards

  • Need Oracle 12c whitepaper recommendation for upgrade assessment

    Hi:  Good morning!
This is not an urgent request, but appreciate your recommendation!  I need documents about Oracle 12c (our os is IBM AIX power system, 6.1, 64 bit), because we are planning upgrade current oracle database 11.2.0.4 to 12c, we need a thorough assessment to 12c  since 12c introduced many innovative, new features, major component changes, as well as impact to java application.  The document I have so far is-
    1. database upgrade guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/UPGRD/preup.htm#UPGRD002
    2. Deprecated API (oracle database JDBC Java API Reference)
    https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/JAJDB/deprecated-list.html
    3. Tom Kytes Top 12 new features for Oracle 12c (from web).
There are many things to look for.  I want to know the major things I should focus in new features & impact to java application.
what document can provide me the info!
thank you very much in advance!

    Hi all:
Can anyone gives me advice after upgrade from 11.2.0.4 database to 12c database, which 'core-DB new features' impact to Java application more, and that we should focus on assessment?
There are too many new & innovative features introduced in 12c. Should I convert our single instance database (on non-cluster server) to 'CDB/PDB' during upgrade? Is it a 'Must-to-do' or not?  We have a physical standby DB, how to do with the standby?
Oracle Documents I reviewed are: 'Oracle 12c database document', 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide'. I recommend this to our developers based on 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide':
    Oracle JVM  (  JDK6, JDK7 support in 12)
[note:need to check jvm components for application: library manager, compiler, interpreter, class loader, server-side JDBC internal driver, server-side SQLJ, translator, system classes; Java stored procedure, SQLJ, JDBC, etc]
    2. Oracle Memory Space management      (         garbage collection)
    3. Multithreading
    4. Footprinting
    5. Dynamic class loading
    6. JNDI class support
    7. Auditing for Java ( alert/execute/audit/grant is enabled in auditing)
    8. Support for logging
    9. Support for customizing default java.security resource
    10. Improved for debugging
However, I may lost myself in core-DB new features for:
    1. advanced analytics features
    2. OLAP features
    3. Partitioning enhance
    4. Performance for zero effort
    5. Compression and Archiving features (depends on application tables design)
    6. Database Overall
       - Integrate With Operating System Processor Groups
       - Oracle Data Pump Support
       - Multitenant Architecture (Not sure)
       - PDBs Backup and Recovery  (Not sure)
       - PDBs Point-in-Time Recovery  (Not sure)
       - PDBs Resource Plans  (Not sure)
       - Utilities
    7. High Availability
       - Application Continuity
       - Transaction Guard
       - Logical Replication
       - Global Data Services
       - Online Operations
       - Oracle Data Guard Enhancements (Depends on our standby design)
    8. Manageability
       - PGA Size Limit
       - Resource Manager Runaway Query Management
       - Spot ADDM
    9. General
       - DBMS_QOPATCH
    10. Performance
    11. Security enhance
    12. Improve Security Manageability, Administration and Integration
        - Database vault
Is my above suggestion (text in red-color) correct?
    Thank you very much!

I need a template on how to prepare the pre-upgrade assessment for this upgrade..The template should also contain Impact analysis on the other application like BI 7.0, EP 7.0 and CRM 5.0..
How do I find out the Impact analysis on the other systems. Please do provide your suggestions on this.
    Thank You,

    Hi Sharad,
Thanks for your reply..Even I could not find any other added advantage that CUUC startegy can provide for systems with SCP..
@All- Sorry to ask too many questions in one thread.
One more question- What is the impact of ECC 6.0 upgrade on
    1) Solution Manager 4.0
    2) BI 7.0
    3) EP 7.0
    4) CRM 4.0
Any document in SMP which talks about the impact on SAP landscape?I could not find a tailor made documentabout Impact Analysis of ECC 6.0.

  • Usage analysis - Upgrade perspective

    Hello All,
Is there any alternative if STAT is disabled and we would still be able to figure out the object usage analysis ? This is from the upgrade assessment perspective
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I have confirmed this with SAP, there is no alternative to this.

  • Wht is the role of BI Consultant in Upgradation ??

    Hi Experts ,
Can anyone give a step by step answer or a link or a material
    for the same
Correct answers will be awarded with full points
    Regards ,
    Subash Balakrishnan

    Hi,
The Upgrade Project Lifecycle can be explicitly divided into the following phases:
    Phase I:
    u2022     Project plan
    u2022     Test planning
    u2022     Release strategy
    u2022     Resource mobilization
    u2022     Contingency Planning
This is the Planning Phase of any Upgrade Project. Before beginning, it is highly essential to verify that there is technically a direct upgrade path between the source and target versions on the SAP Service Marketplace including any Industry Solutions. Redefine Business case and Metrics; Establish the Project Plan, then the Agenda for the Project is scheduled, derive the Project estimates, validate the estimate and the resource needs, organise the same. Leveraging the existing processes for development, testing, deployment and transition will decrease the work efforts by 10-30% in contrast to its comparable implementation. Ensure that the scope for Technical upgrades are restricted to the existing functionality and processes, effort is required to confirm if there are any major changes on them based on the review of SAP released notes and documentation.
    Phase II:
u2022     Gap Analysis between SAP old and newer versions.
u2022     Identify business flows & custom development for testing
    u2022     Test scripts preparation
u2022     Business flow testing in Sandbox system
    u2022     Error Identification
    u2022     New functionality Identification
This is the Analyze Phase of any Upgrade project. Analyze business processes, Identify Application requirements, Assess Process gaps and define a Role based Authorization design. A list of Development objects critical to the SAP Upgrade must be defined with accuracy. All Efforts to identify the interface points and all application integration.Incase, Client has a test model that is recently used then complete the Test Scripts, Expected results and Test data else complete the re-work and re-development of the entire Test Model. A Sandbox instance needs to be created early in the analysis Phase. Performing Sandbox Upgrade to the new SAP version using the existing Development or Production instance will enable us to forecast the new requirements and the changes foreseen in the Upgrade.  It is very essential to conduct SAP Technical Upgrade Assessment and Go-live Functional Check. During Integration Testing, check for unusual long runtimes for Custom Program and transactions; identify any new errors in the existing functionality along with the new functionality that needs to be added.
    Phase III:
    u2022     Determine Resolution for Gaps
u2022     Identify and design the configuration required
u2022     Determine development work for error resolution
u2022     Consultant testing in Test System
    u2022     Design new functionality
u2022     Identify Conversion activities in Productive system
    u2022     Super User Training
This is the Design Phase of any Upgrade Project. During this phase, Configuration Upgrades are made and minimal configuration adjustments are detected and adjusted during testing. About 10-20% Design effort is required to remediate the errors in the custom report and other Technical developments since there is a change in the standard SAP Data Model and Data Dictionary objects. Here, Consultant Testing plays an important role in the identifying the minimal errors and adjusting the same. Plan Conversion activities since existing data is in place during the Technical Upgrade.
    Phase IV:
u2022     Configure the systems as per the gaps and errors
u2022     Implement relevant SAP Notes & Patches
    u2022     Implement Programming Changes
    u2022     Implement new functionality
u2022     Consultant/Superuser testing in Test System
This is the Build Phase of any Upgrade Project. Complete the master configuration as per the errors identified and gaps recognized. Build and test the Application components and Technical Architecture through SAP notes and Development changes for the new functionality.Hence, it is necessary to install all the environments needed to support the Upgrade environment. Prepare training material and all the documentation that is necessary for the Enduser/Superuser training in the Test System.
    Phase V:
u2022     Final Superuser testing and confirmation
u2022     Resolution of errors identified in Super user testing
This is the Test Phase of any Upgrade Project. Application testing and Integration testing should be completed in full in order to ensure that Upgrade relevant changes works in tune with the Business Processes. Super Users play an important role in testing the same and reporting any new unforeseen errors but at the same time responsibility lies within the Consultants and the Technical Team to ensure that any functionality not working is not a totally new requirement and is a part of the already existing functionality. This will avoid any time and effort being wasted in a totally new functionality.Hence, there should be a trial run of the upgrade process, including all pre- and post-validation tasks, business continuity tasks, and technical upgrade tasks. This is to ensure the Completeness of the Cut-over strategy, resource allotments and various dependencies.
    Phase VI:
u2022     Transport upgrade relevant changes in Productive System
    u2022     Final Conversion activities
    u2022     Go-live
This is the Deploy Phase of any Upgrade Project. Plan for deployment. For this, it is highly important to assess Deployment readiness, authorize deployment, Plan a detailed Release strategy to transport the Upgrade relevant changes to Production. The next task in line will be the plan on Conversion of Data and hence Migration to the Production.Normally, majority of the Upgrades stabilize within a week before the actual handoff to the Support Team.
    Testing Management & Control:
Testing is extremely essential, test scripts should be actual, provided by business. Business should be involved as much as possible, to prevent testing of programs or functionalities that is no more used and ensure that programs and functionalities that are used are also tested. Actual and complete test scripts prevent losing time by ineffective testing and surprises after go-live.
Testing has to be done with different customers, domestic and foreign in different countries, to detect language dependent errors.
Print programs in MM (Purchase Order) and SD (Sales Order, Delivery, Invoice) need special attention, because they are very often and very much modified to suit special customer requirements.
The output has to be tested thoroughly and inspected very attentively. The following needs to be checked:
u2022     Are all necessary fields printed out
u2022     Are addresses right and not only with one item line, but with two, three or many.
u2022     Are the texts printed right, is with languages everything in order etc.
User acceptance test with real business roles should be done as extensively as possible, because what is functioning with consultant authorisations /sap-all might not be functioning with business roles with much less authorisations.
    Release Strategy:
Follow a detailed and planned strategy to release transport requests relevant to Upgrade. The transport can start from the Sandbox System. But, before being imported to the Development System; the transport requests can be stored in a buffer. Similarly, transport from Development System to Quality Assurance System and from Quality assurance to Production system follows the same strategy.
    Country Version Approach & Impact:
Country versions should be given special care to ensure that country-specific deviations and Taxes due to legal implications work well without any issues.
The Go Live Approach , Follow-up Activities, Critical Success Factors & Deliverables:
All development should be stopped. Just the minimum of changes absolutely necessary for support should be done, no other new modules or add-ons should be installed at the same time, otherwise the situation can become very complicated.
Dump analysis is very important to detect errors and these dumps should be taken care of on a daily basis, when testing and after go-live
User variants /batch job variants tend to disappear or become outdated.
Interfaces should be tested very carefully, by users themselves, because only they know what they are really doing. The interface might be functioning basically, but for example the search help for material is not functioning at all. It is difficult to compile all such details in test scripts.
For workflow, a really experienced expert should be involved. Otherwise the search for errors might cost lots of time. Many programs are involved, standard and customer objects and their interrelationship is difficult to see and debug, especially with background processes. And if workflow is not working after upgrade, it might be difficult for customer to find workaround.
It is good to keep a non-upgraded system until the go-live and intensive care period is over. It is quite often good to see, how customer programs were functioning before upgrade, copying of pre-upgrade programs or methods might be very useful to make customer programs run again, when they are using standard ABAP objects that are changed by upgrade or even no more existing after upgrade. And users tend to claim after upgrade that functionalities are no more working, which never have been functioning, to get them without a change request. All these should be taken care of.
Hence, I believe that the above mentioned methodology and key points would suffice to ensure a planned and successful Upgrade without any major surprises or chaos.
    Assign points if helpful.
    Regards,
    Sumit

  • Doubt with Upgrade Portal 701 to 7.4

    Hi.
Two years ago installed  SAP NW 701. And for this the BP ESS /MSS 1.41
Note: compatible XSS Java components are SAP ESS 603, SAP MSS 600, PCUI_GP 603 and EHP4 compatible Portal Business Packages (BP) are ESS/MSS version 1.41
For this project, Two years ago, we copied the roles delivered by SAP to roles custemer for ESS&MSS in the portal using Portal Content.
Now we need install a new system portal with version 7.3 for upgrade our system portal.
    Questions:
What is the process for transport the objects(Roles Java For ESS &MSS already created in the portal 701) to portal target 7.31?
My question because to the restrictions found in the blog In the point 5:
Manual content transport: Due to restrictions in the export mechanism of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, you cannot simply export, transport and import content and related properties or configurations into a fresh new system (e.g. some KM services). Check the transport information indocumentation for KM 7.0 and KM 7.3 for details on supported scenarios. SAP recommends running a thorough upgrade assessment with your consulting partner in order to make a profound decision.
In the new portal installl we will install The new re-compiled Java packages for NW 7.3 are called ESS 633, MSS 630, PCUI_GP 633.
    My question:
I shoudl Create a copy of the role delivered for this package or exist a way for copy this content of SAP NW 701 to SAP NW 7.3?
What is the better practice  SAP?

    Dear.
In this moment the client not want update to WDA.
We have modified the component of personal information. because my country not have services delivered by SAP.
The steps to follow are: Install the portal 7.4 and install the following package:
    BP ESS 1.41
    BP MSS 1.41
    SAP_ESS 633
    SAP PCUI_GP 633
    SAP_MSS 630
    Deploy apply XSS packages modificated.
Export content SAP NW 701 (folder ESS copied of the folder standars) to SAP NW 7.4?

  • Pre Upgrade

    Hi Experts,
What is a Pre upgrade assessment studies done by consultancies?
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hello Ravi,
Here are the things you need to consider:
    1. Is the upgrade a valid one? The upgrade path should be validated.
    2. Do you have all the documents and media(DVD)?
    3. Do you have access to SAP Service Market? (required)
    4. Is the database/OP ready for the target release?
    5. Is the hardware properly sized for the upgrade?

  • [Urgent] Some questions about OID/OSSO 10g - 11g upgrade

    Dear all,
We are under doing upgrading assessment of OID/OSSO 10g to 11g for a customer. After reviewed the 'upgrading guide', we still have some questions as below:
    1.     Whether the ‘10g DIP profiles’ will be still available after the OID 11g upgrade? Currently there are some sync of AD<->OID and DB->OID.
    2.     Whether the ‘WNA’ function will still work after the upgrade?
    3.     Is there a big change of OID API from 10g to 11g? If so, I think a big effort maybe on application modification.
    4.     I found that there is a OAM Basic version for OSSO 10g upgrade. So if this OAM Basic will migrate the OSSO configuration (like external application) automatically, or it must be re-configed after the upgrade?
    5.     Currently customer config OID 10g as BPEL/ESB’s identity store. So does BPEL/ESB 10g is certificated with OID 11g also? I didn’t find the certification so far.
Thank you in advance and any comment are welcome.

  • [Urgent] Some questions about Oracle Portal 10g - 11g upgrade

    Dear friends,
We are under doing upgrading assessment of Oracle Portal from 10g to 11g. After reviewed the 'upgrading guide', we still have some questions as below:
    1. Whether the 'Instant Portal' feature remain in Oracle Portal 11g? If yes, how to migrate the Instant Portal 10g sites? If no, any workaround?
    2. Whether the old 10g Page Group and Pages will be still available after 11g upgrade? Also can customer import the old 10g transportset into Portal 11g?
    3. How about the customized Portal 10g objects (such as customized template, style, attributes) after 11g upgrade? Still be usable?
    4. Customer use PDK to develop many portlets in 10g. Can they use JDeveloper 11g to migrate their old project to 11g automatically?
Thank you in advance and any comment are welcome.

    1. Whether the 'Instant Portal' feature remain in Oracle Portal 11g? If yes, how to migrate the Instant Portal 10g sites? If no, any workaround?Instant Portal is not available anymore in Oracle Portal 11g. The Instant Portal page groups will be migrated to standard Portal page groups. Maintenance of the Instant Portal can be done with the standard Portal tools. The Instant Portal tools are not available anymore.
Whether the old 10g Page Group and Pages will be still available after 11g upgrade? Also can customer import the old 10g transportset into Portal 11g?Old 10g Page Groups are migrated to Portal 11g. They will still be available after the upgrade.
Export/Import through transports sets has always been limited to instances of the same version. It is not supported between versions as documented in the Administration Guide :
    [11.2.1|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/portal.1111/e10239/cg_imex.htm#CCJBCCGD] System Requirements
Before exporting and importing content, ensure that your system meets the minimum system requirements, as described in this section.
    Notes:
    * Export and import functions only within the same release of Oracle Portal and the same patch release, for example, release 10.1.4 to release 10.1.4 or release 11.1.1 to release 11.1.1. You cannot export and import between two different releases, such as release 10.1.2 to release 10.1.4 or release 10.1.4 to release 11.1.1.
How about the customized Portal 10g objects (such as customized template, style, attributes) after 11g upgrade? Still be usable?Customized objects get migrated as well. Certain types (e.g. PL/SQL item types) need to be checked after upgrade as the behavior of the PL/SQL code may differ between database versions. This is particularly of concern when the 10.1.4.x Portal uses a 10.1 database. A database upgrade to either 10.2, 11.1 or 11.2 is necessary as Portal 11g is not supported with RDBMS 10.1.
Customer use PDK to develop many portlets in 10g. Can they use JDeveloper 11g to migrate their old project to 11g automatically?Never done this, but the Portal framework is able to consume JPDK providers which are running in older versions of the toolkit. If the providers are running in standalone OC4J containers, you would be able to upgrade the framework and keep the providers in their OC4J containers. This will allow you to focus on the framework first and worry about your providers later.
    Thanks,
    EJ

  • Functional Upgrad from BW 3.x to Netweaver 2004s

    Hi Guys,
i have gone through almost entite forum on sdn but i could not get the information/document for functional upgrad. currently i am using BW 3.5 and going for BI 7.0
could some one tell me the steps to do functional upgrad to BI 7.0. i am not talking abt the technical upgrad here. i would really appriciate if some one could send me some document that gives step to step procedure to do the functional upgrad.
ur help will be rewarded in terms of points.
    manmit

    Hello,
There are multiple resources to review since a functional upgrade requires a value proposition, gap analysis, and in some cases an ROI.
First, all releases below BW 3.5 are currently scheduled to go off maintenance December 2006.  So customers need to be at release BW 3.5 or higher by Jan. 1, 2007.  This helps with the value proposition!
Please check the delta feature list from BW 3.5 to NW 2004s BI on SDN or the Service Marketplace.  As Prakash mentioned, customers should evaluate which features they want to implement and the timeframe.  Many customers will focus on a technical upgrade which is what we recommend initially, and also determine which features could be included in the first go-live.  Other features can be added to subsequent go-lives, but this is based on customer specific go-live timetables.  Some customers have implemented only new functionality while others only chose the most important, i.e. BI accelerator, BEx.
Also, please check the webinar entitled "Upgrading to NW 2004s BI" which covers many of these points and lists the relevant references.
Finally, SAP (and trained partners) will be offering an Upgrade Assessment service beginning of July which will assist customers in planning an upgrade to NW 2004s BI including both technical and functional considerations.  Please contact your SAP account team for more information.
    Thanks,

  • Authorization issue on SHD0 transaction variant in R/3

    Hi,
Can anyone help me on the below issue?
Created a transaction variant ZME31K using SHD0 on R/3 system with the base transaction ME31K.
And created a transaction ZME31K for the above transaction variant.
Created one ID which has access only to transaction ZME31K.
But when tried to create contract using ZME31K, it allows to create the contract, but ended up with message  "You are not authorized to use ME31K".
Anyone faced similar issue before? how this can be resolved? As per the busniess requirement, they can provide access only to the transaction variant for the user and they will not be assigned to ME31K.
    -Thanks,

    > We are doing an Upgrade assessment wherein at R/3 side, the system is being upgraded from 4.6 to ECC 6.0.
    > I wanted to know the impact the Change in Transactions at R/3 side..  namely transactions..
    > AS02, CT02, F-02, F-41, F-49, FB01 would have on BW.
What do you mean? I don't get your question. What impact should those transaction have on BI?
