Upgrade to Maverics on Pro 2.2 GHZ

Can i update or upgrade mit Mac Book Pro with 2.2 GHZ Processor to Maverics?

aloys.wiesmann,
your MacBook Pro can upgrade to Mavericks if you meet its other minimum requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer currently installed;
2 GB of RAM installed;
8 GB of free disk space on your boot partition.
(You’ll probably want at least 4 GB of RAM installed and at least 24 GB of free disk space on your boot partition to ensure that Mavericks runs reasonably well.)

The largest HDD that can be installed in a MBP has a 1 Tb capacity.  I suggest you go to the OWC website and examine the choices available there.  Any of the 2.5" HDDs will work.  They cater specifically to the Mac market and and have an excellent reputation.
    Ciao.

  • Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices.

Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core (4cores)) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices. Does this need to be done through the Graphics card expansion or a additional card to be inserted?

No. There is no way to upgrade any Mac Pro older then the cylindrical 2013 Mac Pro to ThunderBolt.
The requirements of Thunderbolt require a totally redesigned motherboard and chip set rather any plugin cards. These motherboard were never developed for older Mac Pros.

the most improving effect on 'speed' is distributed media:
System/App, Projects, Events, Cache, backups on diff. platters. Esp. when using compounds/multicams, each 'angle' on its own drive...
To improve 'rendering' = export speed, the graphic card is the limiting factor.

  • Frequent Crashes after upgrading to ML (Macbook Pro 15" 2010)

I have been experiencing numerous, frequent crashes ever since upgrading my computer (Macbook Pro, 15", 2010 model) to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. The crashes appear to be very random; they don't happen at startup and aren't associated with any particular application or action. For example, I once experienced a crash while opening a file in VLC. After restarting, I was able to use VLC without any problems, and instead experienced  a crash when opening a bookmark in Safari (which wasn't a problem earlier). In all cases, the screen turns black for a second and then the computer forcibly restarts.
Below I have pasted the details of the error report that the computer wants to send to Apple. I've had nearly 20 of these since upgrading on Wednesday night, and I don't know if they are all the same. But hopefully someone can help me here; I don't know how to interpret this log in order to pinpoint what is causing the problem. This looks a lot like the "kernel panics" that others have reported, but I just don't know what that means or how to fix it.
Also, I ran Software Update and am currently up-to-date.
    Thanks so much,
    Anthony

  • Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon Running Slow

    Hi everyone!
I'm a professional photographer and could use some advise, and thanks for your help in advance!
I have a Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 gigs of 1066 MHz DDR3 of memory, running on OS 10.9.5, and my main drive for applications is 1TB and has about 420 GB free. I have various other hard drives for storage.
I use Chrome, Lightroom 4, Photoshop CC2014, Blogstomp, Spotify or iTunes, and I have Backblaze Backup running continuously.
When I first got my computer I didn't have any problems, but over the past few months it's been running super slow. I know that LR4 has issues, but I want to make sure that there isn't anything else I need to look into before getting more memory. I mean even Chrome opening up has the beachball.
    Thanks!

My guess is this is a 5,1 2010-2012. You could use a GTX 680 or later, it has good PCIe (the 2009 is somewhat weaker and crippled by sharing slots 3&4)
A Samsung XP941 512 $525 delivers 1100MB/sec reads and 900MB/sec writes to supercharge your system - one of the best and few such, similar to the same SSD blade used in the nMP 6,1. Lightroom and CS love to be able to load and write scratch, graphic libraries. Bootable. You could use a smaller 256GB $275 for system in slot #3 and one for data and scratch in slot #4 if you wanted to go full out.
You said it was fine originally so maybe something you installed, or an upgrade to the OS or something else that Etrecheck should help show.

  • Reviews for ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?

There's no review at the Apple Store on this [ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Early 2009 or Early 2008)|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB999ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=NDE4NDMx OA]. Googled and found nothing related to the Mac kit. Mostly PC based.
Should I consider this card? I need a spare/replacement graphics card for my Mac Pro (early 2008). The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card has failed me twice.

    Just came out on barefeats:
    http://www.barefeats.com/nehal14.html
Shows new drivers with 285, also compares 4870.
If you play a lot of games on the windows side, you might also want to consider the 4890. I has recently became flashable (if you're into that kinda thing). It has a lot more leeway to be overclocked. Close to (or if your lucky) hitting the 1 Ghz core clock speed, gives very close comp to the 285, and at fraction of the price. You can get an XFX 4890 on newegg for $195.

  • I want to upgrade my ram macbook pro 15'' without retina to 16gb and want more than 1600 hz

I have a Mac book Pro 15 inch without retina I wish to upgrade the RAM 4 GB to 16GB and I want to putting a ram with more speed then 1600 GHz can someone please tell me what is the maximum and if possible where can I buy it from it has to be compatible with my mac or else it's pointless.
    Regards Axl

Sorry, read the post as with retina.
    Standard RAM:
    4 GB
    Maximum RAM:
    16 GB*
    Details:
4 GB of RAM is installed as two 2 GB modules, no slots free. *Apple officially supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM, but third-parties have determined that this model actually is capable of using up to 16 GB of RAM with two 8 GB memory modules. In the US (and many other countries), site sponsor Other World Computing sells memory -- as well as other upgrades -- for this MacBook Pro.
    http://www.everymac.com
The link you posted is compatible RAM and from a reputable company. I bought my 2 X 8 GB modules from crucial when I upgraded my MBP RAM to 16 GB.
    Go with that kit.
Note that DDR3 1600 MHz RAM is the only type of RAM your machine takes.

  • Buying Opinion - Upgrade Powerbook vs MacBook Pro

I'm thinking I may try to upgrade my laptop as my main objective is to get CS4 right now but I have a friend who is selling his MacBook Pro for $900. What's your opinion as you would know better what Macs can handle? My main problem is speed especially with CS programs and I do need a new battery. I have a PowerPC G5 Dual with a large glossy screen for my most intense work that I can do from home. But I like to have a laptop that I can take on the road for working on projects. It's mostly for Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. So no animation or gaming purposes.
    I have:
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,9
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.67 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.5f3
    His computer:
2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo Processor
    3 GB RAM (Newly upgraded)
320 GB 7200rpm HDD (Newly upgraded)
Dual Layer Superdrive (DVD and CD recorder)
    15.4" 1440x900 Widescreen Glossy Display
    128MB ATI x1600 Video
    DVI-VGA adapter Cable
    Apple Wireless Remote
    Brand new battery
It includes OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard, iLife 09, and iWork 09, all part of the "Mac Box Set," so this is all legal software.
The original box, discs and documentation are all included.
The condition of the system is excellent with one minor exception - there seems to be a very slight bend in the casing underneath the expresscard slot. One of my photos shows it.
Do you think it's doable with what I have (and what could I do?) or should I go with the newer MacBook and save myself the headache? What's the main difference with the computers?
    Thanks everyone!
    Tiffany

Re: Buying Opinion - Upgrade Powerbook vs MacBook Pro
You can get a brand new MacBook for $999 so don't bother with the used one. For the price difference, save up and buy new MacBook Pro for $1199. Faster than Macbook. Shop around. Everyone is discounting. You might get free ram upgrades (unless you're getting free ram, buy separately and install yourself), free shipping. Try Epercom, CDW and Small Dog in addition to Apple. If you go to Apple store don't be shy about asking for a 10% business discount. I asked and got one for my imac last summer.
He's offering it at $900...does that seem like a fair price for what I'd get?

  • Macbook Pro 2.2 ghz and HD movie import/ export

I have a Canon HG 10 high definition video camcorder. I have been reading about its avchd compression and how the compressed data from the camcorder gets expanded and converted to Apple Intermediate Codek before Imovie 08 may perform any edits; and then Imovie must export or "share" the movie thru quicktime before it can be used by hardware or applications like IDVD.
Apparently I can maintain the 1920 X 1080 format thru the entire process if I save as a quicktime movie and view the movie on an external HD monitor connected to my computer.
However I've read in discussions that my macbook pro 2.2 ghz may not be sufficient for retaining the full quality of an HD movie-- Imovie itself warns me that the movie quality may be degraded unless I import at 960 X 540-- that may not be a bad idea-- I might not even notice a difference and I'd consume far less disk space-- but I would like to have the option of the highest quality video if possible. After all, I thought my camera was compatible with Imovie (as listed by Apple on its website).
Could someone explain exactly how my macbook pro may degrade my HD import more than, say, a Mac Pro would? Would it help to upgrade to 7200 rpm hard drive and 4gb ram? Thanks!

My apologies for the broken links in that article. I have reported them to the appropriate group for their action.
At this point, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
