Upgrading from BPC 7.0

Hello All,
My company is currently using BPC 7.0 Microsoft Platform for our consolidations and reporting. We are considering upgrading to either the 7.5 with Netweaver or the new 10.0 version. I have a few questions:
1. What is the difference between Netweaver and Microsoft BPC applications?
2. What are the pros and cons of 7.5 vs 10.0?
3. Can you give me a magnitude of the cost \ benefit associated with the move to a new version?
Thanks.

Hello Joseph,
I think is better you ask this question in the NetWeaver forum where you can find people they moved from Ms to NW and that can give you information about the NW different versions.
Best regards
Roberto

  • EVDRE Access Issue Post Upgrade from BPC 5.1 SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6

    Greetings,
Recently upgraded from BPC 5.1SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6.  Experiencing some strange behavior regarding the ability to send data to BPC from an EVDRE.  Both users are part of the same secuity team, thus have the same security in both versions.  However, one is able to send data to BPC 7.0 SP6 for a specific input template while the other recieves a message "There is no data to refresh."    This message is not encountered in BPC 5.1 SP3.
The strange thing is that the user who receives the "there is no data to refresh" is able to rebuild the input template ad hoc and send data to BPC
I have reviewed security, cleared the cache on the user's machine.  I had the user with this issue log onto the app server; she encountered the same behavior regarding this template.  Also tested a seperate input template in another application, this issue did not occurr.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Greg Lakin

    Hi, n
From your description it looks like the problem si more related to that specific user. Please try to reprocess the security for that user. Then go on file server and go into <appset>/<application>/<private publication>/<user name> and delete appinfo.zip.
Other idea can be related to the excel cache, but I don;t know why is not working for this specific user. You can try to save it in a new template as Patrick indicated.
You can try also clear local application information from admin client or try from other machine using the same client.
    Hope this can hekp you,
    Mihaela

    Hi,
Do have Vista or Windows 7 on your computer? If yes, then UAC may interfere. You may need to disable UAC or update client manually. To obtain client software installers please download them from your server as instructed here:

  • Upgrading from BPC 5.0.481

Hello everyone - we were one of the first customers to install SAP BPC (then OutlookSoft) v5. We installed SP 1 & 2, but we have not installed any upgrades since then. Our entire company recently upgraded to Office 2007 and I heard that 5.1 SP4 would address some of the conflicts we had seen with that. But, when we tried to install SP4 we discovered that we were on v. 5.0.481 and in order to install the SP we had to be on at least 5.0.486 or higher. I have gone back through the SAP Download Center and downloaded every SP and upgrade (including the 5.1 upgrade/install) and all of them say you must be on 5.0.486 or higher.
How can we get from 5.0.481 to 5.0.486? I cannot find the file to bridge that one gap.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi I think you are into version 5.0 not 5.1 and that's the problem.
So you have first to install 5.1 version and after that you will be able to apply SP4.
Into SMP you have to download 5.1 version and after you installed this version you will be able to install SP4.

  • Upgrading from BPC MS version to Netweaver version 7.5

    Hi experts
My client is in the process of implementing the MS version of BPC but have now invested heavily in the Netweaver environment and would like to migrate to the NW version 7.5 of BPC.  Please can I get some views on the complexity involved in migration and whether there are any tools available to assist?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
As a matter of fact, there is a tool for migrating from MS to NW version. I would request you to get in touch with your local SAP RIG team for further information on this. There is a certification required for getting the access to this tool.
This toll will take care of most of the objects. However, there are few manual things to be done. BPFs cannot be migrated. Hence, you need to re-design the BPF in 7.5 NW. Lot of statement in script logic are not supported in the NW version. So, that needs to be re-visited.
    Hope this helps.

  • Z_IMPORT_MASTER_DATA_LOAD fails after upgrade to BPC 7.5

    Hi,
After an upgrade from BPC 7.0 (for NW) to BPC 7.5, the process chain Z_IMPORT_MASTER_DATA_LOAD fails. This is a standard process chain and we have used it to import Employee-masterdata from BW to BPC. This has been working perfectly fine for a long time, but after the upgrade it fails with the error message: u201CJob or process BPCMALDNW, waiting for event RSPROCESS D5PUFX4O5T78XRI7YVDC1LGBL is unknownu201D. Details of the error message are:
Job or process BPCMALDNW, waiting for event RSPROCESS D5PUFX4O5T78XRI7YVDC1LGBL is unknown
    Message no. RSPC002
    Diagnosis
Job BPCMALDNW has been started because of event RSPROCESS D5PUFX4O5T78XRI7YVDC1LGBL. This job is not, however, known in the active version of the process chain.
    System Response
    The job has been terminated.
It is the variants u201CClear BPC tablesu201D and u201CConvertu201D that fail, but they do not give any error message that makes sense.
Does anyone know what is causing this problem? Can the process chain not be used in BPC 7.0 and do we have to use the process chain /CPMB/IMPORT_MASTER instead?
    Thanks for your help.

    Linda Solberg

    Hi Rohit,
Yes you will need to re-create your custom packages. Please see Note 1294591 - Support SQL 2008 (DM):
    [Addtional Info]
If you need to upgrade SQL 2005 dtsx packages to SQL 2008, customized packages must be created in SQL 2008 BIDS(Business Intelligence Development Studio). The steps are the same with SQL 2005. To do this, you should copy BPC Task DLLs for SQL 2008 to Tasks folder under SQL 2008 BIDS installation folder
If you use packages provided from ApShell, you can copy packages from ApShell instead created in SQL 2008 BIDS after upgrading to SQL 2008.
*Note: you should modify package as your application structure such as dimension when you copy package from an application to others and, between the applications, the structure are different.
Also, for information on migration steps to apply to support packages before SP01, see the Planning and Consolidation 7.5 M Upgrade Guide, available on SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/instguidesEPM-BPC > 7.5, version for the Microsoft platform.
    Thanks

  • Upgrading from 4.2 to 5.1 Performance Issues

    Hi All,
We are finally upgrading from 4.2 to 5.1. Both our 4.2 and 5.1 servers are identical, however, we are noticing major performance issues in one of our applications that contains 7 account hierarchies and 4 entity hierarchies. Creating a simple any by any can take up to 3.5 minutes in 5.1 where as it takes less than 2 seconds in 4.2. We could split up some of the account hierarchies into separate dimension and applications, but I find it hard to believe that we need to redesign our applications to fit 5.1 handling of multiple hierarchies.
Has anyone else run into similar issues, if so, what was done to overcome them?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
We had some performance issues with BPC 5.1 SP4, we upgrade to SP9 and take recomendations found on the How To doc below found here on sdn:
[How to Use MDX Dimension Formulas Article |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/008d665b-94bf-2a10-78b2-b32ffe04ba73]
As I know just account hierarchies are supported (at least in our case) with hard limitations on hierarchies formulas.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Carlos

  • Custom DTS package migration from BPC 4.2 ,SQL 2000 to BPC 7.0 M , SQL 2005

Is there any changes required in the custom dts package when migration from BPC 4.2 , sql 2000 Environment to bpc 7.0 , SQL 2005/2008  Environment.
    or
Please suggest process for migrating  custom dts package from BPC 4.2 ,SQL 2000 Envirnment to BPC 7.0 ,SQL 2005/2008 Environment

When you say "custom dts package" that can mean many different things. What type of customization has been done?
There are a few BPC-related features which changed from 4.2, which must be manually adjusted, if you're using those features.
But SQL itself also changed dramatically in moving from SQL 2000 to 2005. So if your customer's packages are heavily customized around SQL 2000, this may require substantial re-work.
The only migration process for custom DTS packages -- that I'm aware of -- is to use the SQL 2005 migration tool in SSIS, see how much it messed up, and then fix everything else that's still broken.
But there also may be opportunities to improve the package overall. SQL 2005 has a lot of great new features in SSIS, over what was there in SQL 2000.
I haven't started working with SQL 2008 yet, so I can't say what complexity there is in upgrading DTS packages from 2005 to 2008. From what I read in the BPC 7 release notes, it sounds like it's a very minor upgrade, compared to the jump from 2000 to 2005.

  • Upgrade SAP BPC 7.5 NW SP4 to SAP BPC 7.5 NW SP8

    Hello,
I want to make an Upgrade from SAP BPC 7.5 NW SP4 to SAP BPC 7.5 NW SP8 and i need to know what are the consideration to make that.
Do you have any suggestion, link or information to get this activity?
    Best regards

    Hello,
As far as I know, you don't need to perform all configuration steps from SP04 to SP08 in ABAP tier, but it is good to check if everything is ok.
You can also check upgrade guide available at http://service.sap.com/instguidesEPM-BPC (choose 7.5 version for SAP NetWeaver).
Regarding Apshell: sometimes a few changes are made in the way things work in the backend (logic) and of course, some improvements also. These changes can be reflected in Apshell, so yes, every time you upgrade you must recreate apshell executing UJS_ACTIVATE_CONTENT as described in installation guide (also available at the above link).
If you have any problems during apshell activation in SP08, check this thread: Issues on Activating Apshell on BPC Netweaver 7.5 SP08
It is already available Patch 1 for BPC Client and for BPC .Net server, you should also consider applying it (release note is 1597464).
    Hope it helps!

  • Issues to be aware of when upgrading from SP1 to SP7

    Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade from SP1 to SP7 of Microsoft version of SAP BPC.
Are there any major pitfalls that we should be aware of with this upgrade?
    Is SP7 a stable release?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

RE:  SP5 - I have been running SP5 since November.  Overall it has worked well with two exceptions:  It is not compatible with Japanese Windows (Fixed in SP6 onward, by enabling use of a new XceedZip version 6.5).  I have a manual workaround for this which works for infrequent dimension refreshes and a low number of Japanese users to support.  Also the SendGovernor fails to restart after just about every reboot (Resolved with an SSIS package that checks the status of the SendGovernor, and restarts it if it is turned off).
I am looking to SP7 so would like to hear others comments as well.

  • Are there any enhancements from BPC 5.1 to BPC 7.0?  If so what are they?

Are there any enhancements from BPC 5.1 to BPC 7.0?  If so what are they?  We are trying to figure out whether or not to capitalize an upgrade.

    Hi,
There have been lot of enhancements incorporated in BPC 7.0
    1. BPC 5.1 was running either on SQL 2000 or SQL 2005. However, BPC 7.0 works on SQL 2005 or SQL 2008. The preferred one is SQL 2008, since the performance is much better.
    2. Because of the change in the SQL version, BPC 5.1 was able to support DTS packages alongwith DTSX. However, BPC 7.0 supports only DTSX packages.
    3. The logic debugger is in place to debug the script logics.
    4. While processing the dimension, there is an option for validating the dimension logics written.
Hope this gives you some idea on the enhancements.

  • Upgradation from bps to bpc7

    hi,
Pls share link/doc, for upgrading sem6.0(bps) to bpc7 version? what is major steps in upgradation?
is there any way to migrate from plng folder (bps) to bpc applications?
    thanks,.

Not sure what your expectations are when you say upgrade since it is not possible to systematically upgrade from BPS to BPC.  Rather BPC is a new instalalation and implementation project, albeit one that can often be accomplished faster than BPS projects.  Both BPC and BPS being applications used for planning, there is some natural similariity in the capabilities of the two applications.  For example:
    BPS cubes --> BPC applications
BPS master data --> BPC dimensions and properties
BPS key figures --> BPC signdata
BPS variables, planning levels & packages --> BPC current view or script logic scoping (*XDIM_MEMBERSET)
BPS planning layouts --> BPC input schedules
BPS functions and formulas --> BPC script logic and business rules and excel functions
BPS data slices --> BPC work status
BW data loads - BPC data manager
    BEx reports --> BPC reports
    BW security --> BPC security

  • Is it really possible to upgrade from a Treo 650 to a Treo 750?

I am not a very happy customer at the moment, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded from my old Palm Tungsten to a Zire, then to a Cingular Treo 650, combining three devices into one. I have since discovered that the Treo 650 seems to have a faulty transmission mode, as I can rarely be clearly understood by whomever I call. Am on the second (or third, I have lost track) and continue to have the same problem. I get five bars of reception but can't be understood on the other end. A bit of a problem when one is trying to call 911. Am constantly told I am "breaking up". The repair shop says it "Can't duplicate the problem". OK, then I do not want to give up all the info I have stored in the fool thing, and the 750 seems to have a different system, so I thought I would try that. All the stuff I could find seemed to indicate it wouldn't be a problem to upgrade. When the 750 arrived, I tried to install the software from the CD on my Windows XP computer. No dice. Setup encounters an error and closes. Can't even look at the files, because setup tries to run any time I access the CD. From any drive.  Gave it to my girlfiend to check on her computer, and the CD seemed to run fine. Other CDs work just fine on my computer. Must be some kind of conflict, but what? Tried calling the AT&T number that suggested they could help with setup, and was first connected to the business center, they routed me to the laptop center, who routed me to the network center, who said they would have to bring in the Palm customer service and connected me to a Mac guy that dumped me back to a menu that took me to someone for whom English is a second language with whom I was trying to communicate over a very poor satellite connection. They made no sense anyway. telling me first that I couldn't have two desktops running (wrong, my girlfriend has my old Zire and the CD worked fine) and then insisting that the serial number on my device had to start with a P, when it clearly does not have any alpha characters in it. Gave up on that route of assistance. Managed to get the new ActiveSync installed from my girlfriends computer over the network. Great. Now let's get my 650 synced with Outlook (which I have not used at home) and see if we can move on. Nope. First I have to update Outlook 2000 from the old Win98 to my current XP. Find the old CD, and square that away. OK, now sync to Outlook. Nope. The sync program gives an error, saying it will only sync with Outlook 98, 2000, and XP(2002). Good grief. I have Outlook 2000, and the software apparently does not recognize it. If the Palm doesn't work, there is no reason for me to keep this phone, and I am very close to returning it and abandoning the Palm entirely when I upgrade to something that works, although I dread re-entering all that information.

Thanks for the feedback. Today I installed an Enterprise version of Office 2007 I purchased a while back, but had not yet installed. Microsoft presented a few challenges, but they were quickly resolved. I then downloaded the appropriate conduit from Palm, and synced the 650 with the handheld overwriting the computer. Then used Active Destop to sync the 750. Satisfied I had moved as much info as possible, I called AT&T and had them move the phone number to the new Treo.
Bonus! When the guy at AT&T called me on the new phone to verify it, he said it sounded better than my landline.
Sorry for the streaming paragraph. When it is late I tend to write like I think.

I upgraded from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6.  Everything converted fine.  Yesterday I deleted an app in error.  When I downloaded the software it from iTunes ( did this many times on the old 3GS), my account is no longer recognized by the app's host servers (Playtika), even though it did after the initial conversion.  Can I go back and re-sync just one app from my old phone?

Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.
