Upgrading only DVD Studio Pro (version 3 to 4)

Does anyone know is this permanent Apple policy that it isn't possible to upgrade just one software. I only need DVDSP 4.x, but I can't find a way to upgrade it from version 3. If I need one software I have to buy all other FC Studio programs too. This really doesn't make sense.

Hey, I upgraded to the Suite when it first came out and now there asking for an additional $100.00 to update my FCP suite to the new Universal version. I not seeing anything in the update that will benifit a Power PC user, it looks like it's for all those who are using Intel chips.
Be glad you didn't buy earlier!
By the way, it's worth it, to get the suite. Apple in the past, offer the app's separately to education, but now, not even education can get them separate.

  • Upgrade to DVD Studio Pro 4 from version 2?

I'm currently using DVD Studio Pro version 2. I'm soon going to be mastering a commercial DVD for a documentary, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to version 4. In looking over the version 4 feature set, however, it's not really clear to me what benefit I would get from upgrading.
Is there a good reason for me to upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Greg

Under the hood version 2 is way different from version 4
I like the template and unification of the interface (especially obvious with FC Studio. Other integration with the Studio is also nice.
    BUT...
Don't switch until this project is done. When finsihed you can use te assets to take v 4 for a run but from a business point of view it would be a better "best practice" not to change.

  • DVD Studio Pro upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade from DVD Studio Pro 2.0.5 to DVD Studio Pro 4 without having to purchase the full version of Final Cut Pro Studio?

There is just no way of upgrading from were you are, to the new FCP suite, without purchasing the full FCP 2 Suite.
Your only chance at an upgrade would be on Ebay, that is selling and older FCP suite. http://cgi.ebay.com/Final-Cut-Studio-Pro-5_W0QQitemZ220130748924QQihZ012QQcatego ryZ80245QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Be ware, this is the academic version, and therefore can not be used for commercial purposes, (making money) strickly for use in and academic environment.
The seller mention the Apple crossgrade, but that is no longer available from Apple, what you see is what you get.

  • XGrid and DVD Studio Pro

    Greetings all,
I've searched the net for an answer to this and couldn't find one, although I'm sure this question has been asked hundreds of times before. I just finished sorting through this forum as well and couldn't find a similar question. It doesn't seem like this forum is too active, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
I use Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) and DVD Studio Pro 3 rather heavily. We have four systems and may have a new addition soon. I'd really love to be able to speed up render times in DSP at the very least.
So far I've set up the grid. I used XgridLite to make one of the computers the controller. Through Apple Preferences I enabled Xgrid on the agent systems (including the controller) and pointed them to the controller system. The grid is password-protected, and all agents are set to receive tasks regardless of whether they are idle or not. With the exception of one system (the slowest one), all systems successfully joined the grid and are in "Available" status when viewed with Xgrid Admin.
I presume the grid is properly set up so far. When I try to encode with DVD Studio Pro, however, the admninistrator utility doesn't show any of the systems becoming active. Note that the primary encoding system was the same as the controller system - was that the problem, perhaps?
All systems are currently linked through a 100 mbps network. We'll soon be moving them to a 1 gbps network. I was hoping that the 100 mbps network would at least let me see that it worked, even slightly. I looked through DSP's preferences but I can't find any options about network encoding or tying into Xgrid. I presume that acting as a client to the Xgrid network is a function built into Xgrid-enabled programs (or scripts you'd write yourself).
Any advice? If anyone can say for certain that DSP 3 won't do it but that newer versions of DSP will, I can request an upgrade and probably get it. I'd rather not do that unless this will for sure work with Xgrid, and only if Xgrid will provide a reasonable performance boost.
    Thanks in advance!
    David

This post has received a number of views but no comments back, so I thought I'd give a brief update on my findings. Even though I've seen Xgrid as being marketed as something that could be used for media, it is the wrong tool for the job when it comes to Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and likely other media applications. What should be used instead is a program called Qmaster. If you have DVD Studio Pro 4, Qmaster is included in the "Extras" content on the disc. Qmaster allows for distributed work to occur through Compressor, which Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro rely on.
I have requested that my department upgrade to DVD Studio Pro 4, and may update with how successful it is. Otherwise, if you were like me and were looking around the internet for how to get this stuff working with Xgrid, stop and begin looking into Qmaster.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4; Nothing works

    Hi Gang,
I just installed the latest universal version of FC Studio HD on my 8-core Mac Pro and NOTHING works. I fire up DVD Studio Pro and I can't open a new project (I click on new project yet nothing happens) I can't open up old projects (I browse to them and try to open and nothing happens) and MOST of the menus in DVD Studio Pro 4 are greyed out (I assume they are greyed out because I don't have a project open because I can't open a project)
I'm running OSX Sdervder 10.4.9 with latest patches
    5Gb Ram
and DVD Studio Pro 4 version 4.1.2
My old version of FC Studio HD (Power PC version) worked just fine on my 8-core in emulation mode.
Final Cut, and all the other programs in FC Studio HD appear to be working just fine... except DVD Studio Pro.
I saw a post here with someone who had this exact problem but there was no response for a solution even though the post was "answered"
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Joe

I'm sorry... I should have been more clear.
I installed the PPC apps because that's all I had after I sold my G5 and purchased this new Mac Pro.
The PPC apps worked just fine on my Mac Pro.
I obtained a crossgrade for the universal application FC2 Studio HD
    I deleted the PPC version
I installed the Universal App version
Everything worked except DVD Studio Pro and Compressor.
I deleted and reinstalled compressor and it worked.
I reinstalled DVD studio pro without deleting it... and it didn't work.
    Now for the good news...
I deleted DVD Studio Pro, then re-installed it, and it now works.
I did the software upgrade on DVD Studio Pro... and it still works.
    Problem solved!!!
In order to get it working... I had to delete the existing install completely... and then JUST install DVD Studio Pro (from the list of applications that come with FC Studio HD).
Hope if someone else runs into this problem; this post helps.
    Thanks for your time everyone!
    Joe

  • Will dvd studio pro solve my disc playback problems?

    Hi folks-
I have to say I love my G5 and the very easy to use iDVD and Imovie apps. However I find that dvds I make will not play in many dvd players. This seems to be a known issue and I have tried various fixes without consistent results. Anyway, what I want to know, if anyone can tell me, is if upgrading to dvd studio pro will solve/help with this at all. As you all know it is very very disappointing to spend many hours and $$ creating a great video only to discover it is unplayable on random dvd players. It is also makes me look stupid, and I don't need any help in that regard.
    Thanks for your attention.

Need more details. Do they freeze and stutter or not do anything at all in these players?
If they freeze and stutter, are you sticking on labels? If so, this is most likely your problems. If they do nothing at all it could be a number of issues such as: bad drive, cheap media, etc.

  • Newbie Help-I just installed DVD Studio Pro 4...

...as an upgrade from DVD Studio Pro 3 and now I can't find any of the menu templates or button templates. Does anyone know where they are located so I can import them back in to the program? Thanks!

Go to the Preferences menu choice of DVDSP4 and in the Destination Pane there is a drop down menu. Embedded down in the last line of the selections is the Show Palette Elements. Click on the Reset in the Stock category DVDSP began to load all of the templates back into the application.
When setting Destination Folders on a Project be sure to not change the Palette Elements. And, if they are changed for some reason, click Reset and DVDSP will load them back.

  • Lost functionality DVD Studio Pro 2

Yes, I know I should upgrade but DVD Studio Pro 2 was such a good programme I never needed any more.
Anyway, over the last few months I've been losing odd bits of functionality but today I'm told that it can't read Mpeg 2 files ( .m2v ) which is bizarre especially as I have used the same files in previous builds.
    "Could not import one file.
The file's format is not supported."
    Any ideas?

Do you mean the project will not load or itmes will not import? Is there any more to the error message? (In other words the error message you are receiving from the application when you try to load the m2v files...)
If many things seem to be "going bad" you can try a new user, try to delete preferences and some other things, or perhaps a reinstall...
What has changed on the system the last couple of months? What are the specs of the machine you are using? (Looks like a PPC with Tiger, but just wanted to make sure....)

  • DVD studio pro is extremely slow, every action brings the spinning beach ball of death

FCP and motion both work fine. Its only DVD studio pro that is an issue. I try to find the preference folder to see if I could trash the preferences but not luck any suggestions?

I see this a lot if I am working in a menu with quite a few buttons and I want to move or amend something. The issue is usually that the 'auto assign button navigation' option is selected in the 'settings' drop down box. This forces DVDSP to re-evaluate everything on the layout each time you do anything, and it takes a while to sort through the items in the menu.
The answer is to uncheck this option, and things speed up dramatically. You do need to remember to check the 'auto assign now' option when done, mind you!
Of course, if you are not in a menu and adding things like a new track is causing a lot of beach balling, then I would think something else is wrong with your set up.

  • Dvd Studio Pro - 4.2.1 to 4.2.2

    Hi everyone
I'm using Dvd Studio Pro 4.2.1 with Mac OSx Leopard 10.5.8 with Final Cut Studio 2 and today received a project from a client made in Dvd Studio Pro version 4.2.2, I need to open and work with it to re-author the dvd and burn it.
Is there any way to get the 4.2.2 as a download or update, and is it gonna work fine with Leopard and final cut studio2?
I have all the dvd content so I can do it again, but would save some time if I could just get the project to open in the 4.2.2
    Thank you all
    Mario

    Hi Michael
yes I tried and didn't show any update for DVDSP4, but is it safe to update, I mean, does everything will keep working in the DVDSP4? (like opening previous version projects 4.2.1)
I've kept Leopard because of update problems to Snow Leopard and stoped doing ProKit updates too. I still work pretty well with Final Cut Studio2.
    Thanks
    Mario

  • IDVD 08 vs DVD Studio Pro

I've just completed a 66 minute slide-show project on iMovie 08 and I saved it at the maximum resolution possible (960 x 540) MPEG4 format.
When I import this MPEG4 file to iDVD 08, I can create and burn a DVD, and everything works as expected.
Now, I would like to add comments to my slide-show, in the form of subtitles, and I know that DVD Studio Pro (version 3.0.2) can add subtitles.
The problem is : my iMovie MPEG4 file is not recognized by DVD Studio Pro 3.
Any explanations ? Or any suggestions as to the format I should choose to export ("share") from iMovie 08 ?
    Thanks in advance.
    BimBam

You need Tiger to run DVDSP 3 (which is what I use), not Leopard. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, DVDSP3 won't run with Leopard..... maybe Version 4 of DVDSP?
Fred .... correct me if I'm wrong here please.
You may want to verify this info with the DVDSP Forum as well.

  • Can I use a version 4 upgrade to update a copy of DVD Studio Pro?

    Hi there
I have DVD Studio Pro 1 and would like to upgrade to 4. I have the chance of an unopened v4 upgrade and want to know if this is feasible?
    Any help gratefully received.

Take a look at the DVD SP Upgrade Box to see what the requirements are for the upgrade (should say which versions are needed). Also you can get the Universal Binary Suite (all Apps) off the DVD SP 4 upgrade disc for a real good price

  • How do I obtain DVD Studio Pro....Only in $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro?

I am new to the Mac world. I have been doing some video editing and DVD authoring on a PC using Easy Media Creator and Nero. I wanted to be able to create more professional looking productions so I purchased my iMac. I have used the iMovie app but it seems very 'limited'. I was told that DVD Studio Pro is what I needed for DVD authoring.
Do I need to purchase the $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro in order to get this software? I have not been able to find it as a solo purchase item.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated...

Apple hasn't offered that as a standalone product since January 2006. You may want to look at third-party software.
