Uploading Contents of af:inputFile to a BLOB Column (Steve's exampl)

Maybe every one who have seen this example of Steve can give me a suggestion...
i want to add this upload field in an adf form, in wich i will have not only this upload field but even some other fields wich will save some data in the same table in database. I tried to add that field button inside a form, and removed the upload button, added the save and create button from Data control Palete. When i click on the save button there are saved 2 rows in the database.
1. wich saves only the upload files
2. the other wich saves the upload fileds+ the other fields i added..
i am sure i have done it wrong:) Want a suggestion what should i change on the Steve's code
THanks in advance :)

I just tried - it downloads fine...

  • Download clob contents from function instead of a blob column in a table

    I found some examples how to create a download link for data stored in a blob column. However my data is not stored in a blob column but is created in a function returning a clob. Obviously this function can be used to fill a blob column that can then be downloaded but maybe there is a more direct route.

    Hello Rene,
    I adapted one of my snippets for download-links for your case. The procedure is pretty much the same like the one concerning an existing blob. To provide the download, you need to convert your clob into a blob, which can be done easily by using the corresponding function provided by the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_lob.htm]DBMS_LOB-API.
    The result might look like the following (untested) code snippet:
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure download_from_function (p_func_argument IN VARCHAR2, p_filename IN VARCHAR2)
    AS
      l_http_response  UTL_HTTP.resp;
      l_blob           BLOB;
      l_raw            RAW(32767);
      l_length         INTEGER;
      l_dest_offset    INTEGER := 1;
      l_src_offset     INTEGER := 1;
      l_lang_context   INTGER := DBMS_LOB.DEFAULT_LANG_CTX;
      l_warning        INTEGER;
    BEGIN
      -- Initialize the BLOB.
      DBMS_LOB.createtemporary(l_blob, FALSE);
      -- replace the function call for src_clob
      DBMS_LOB.convertToBlob( dest_lob     => l_blob,
                              src_clob     => your_clob_function(p_func_argument),
                              amount       => DBMS_LOB.LOBMAXSIZE,
                              dest_offset  => l_dest_offset,
                              src_offset   => l_src_offset,
                              blob_csid    => DBMS_LOB.DEFAULT_CSID,
                              lang_context => l_lang_context,
                              warning      => l_warning);
      l_length := DBMS_LOB.getlength(l_blob);
      -- create response header
      OWA_UTIL.mime_header('text/plain', false);
      -- add furhter header attributes
      htp.p('Content-length: ' || l_length);
      htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="' || p_filename || '"');
      -- close the headers
      OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
      -- download the BLOB
      WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file( l_blob );
      -- release BLOB from memory
      DBMS_LOB.freetemporary(l_blob);
    EXCEPTION
      WHEN OTHERS THEN
        DBMS_LOB.freetemporary(l_blob);
        RAISE;
    END download_from_function;
    -- Page process before header on blank page
    BEGIN
      download_from_function (p_func_argument => 'your_argument_for_your_clob_returning_function',
                              p_filename => 'filename_for_download.txt');
    END;You should change function name and arguments to fit your clob-function's signature. You may also want to add a characterset conversion if needed. See the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_lob.htm]API-doc for details.

  • BLOB column says undefined

    Hi .
    when i create a BLOB column in the table and describe the structure it says undefined. how do i fix that. also if someone can let me know how to update a RTF content from a VB to the BLOB column in the oracle table?? Tons of thanks in advance

    You can write a BLOB- VB to Oracle database using ADO function in VB. Search in MSDN for help on BLOB function. They have a ready eg.
    Just in case you don't find it.
    Here it is:
    Just copy paste this in a form with text boxes for all ODBC parameters.
    I think you cannot read directly from a BLOB column. Don't forget to initiate a BLOB column like:
    /*LOB table for storing files*/
    Drop table FileColumn;
    Create table FileColumn
    ( REPQUE_ID NUMBER(10) NOT NULL ,
    RepText_blob BLOB default empty_blob()
    Storage (initial 50K next 50K pctincrease 0)
    tablespace TEST31ORA
    lob(RepText_blob) store as
    (tablespace ACCOUNT4
    Storage (initial 100k next 100k pctincrease 0)
    chunk 16k pctversion 10 nocache logging);
    /*initialize LOB locator by making it not null, use empty lob, this will
    insert the locator value in that column
    I did this initialize in create table script, so that I can do the bulk insert
    One can do bulk inserts if there are no rows before
    insert into FileColumn
    values(1, empty_blob()); */

  • Uploading a file (.doc, .xls, .txt) into an Oracle table with BLOB column

    Hello All :
    I have been trying to figure out for a simple code I can use in my JSP to upload a file (of any format) into an Oracle table with a BLOB column type. I have gone through a lot of existing forums but couldnot find a simple code (that doesnot use Servlet, for eg.) to implement this piece.
    Thanks a lot for your help !!

    Hi.
    First of all to put a file into Oracle you need to get the array of bytes byte[] for that file. For this use for example FileInputStream.
    After you get the byte array try to use this code:
            try {
                Connection conn = myGetDBConnection();
                PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO table1 (content) VALUES(?)");
                byte[] content = myGetFileAsBytes();
                if (content != null) {
                    pstmt.setBinaryStream(0, new ByteArrayInputStream(content), content.length);
                pstmt.close();
                conn.close();
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            }or instead of using ByteArrayInputStream try pstmt.setBinaryStream(0, new FileInputStream(yourFile), getFileSize());Hope this will help...

  • How to upload/download file into/from blob column in ADF/JDev 11g.

    Hello to all.
    I found demo from Kuba user on that page: http://kuba.zilp.pl/?id=1
    But that demo is for release 10g and too complicated for me for this time (I'm fish in Jdeveloper).
    I can create some simple table view (of form view) with oracle connection with table with blob data.
    Blob column will content doc/xls/pdf ...etc.
    Now I can add two buttons for download and upload.
    What I have to do in next time?
    Is it possible to use some component or something?
    Thank you
    Ben

    I was able to accomplish downloading from a blob, but I'm trying to dynamically set the ContentType.
    As the table may contain different types of files, I'm setting the ContentType to #{row.Fileext}, where Fileext is set in SQL select as follows:
    pseudocode: get file extension, and set the content type based on file extension.
    sql select :decode(substr(fdv.file_name,instr(fdv.file_name,'.',-1,1)+1),'log','text/plain; charset=utf-8','xml','text/xml','xls','application/vnd.ms-excel','tif','image/tiff','jpg','image/jpeg','unknown')
    I rather use a fuction/method, and tried the following instead:
    ContentType = #{backingBeanScope.backing_processReqs.FileAttachContType}
    where FileAttachContType =
    public class ProcessReqs {
    public String FileAttachContType() {
    // code to substring filename for extension and decode values
    return strContType
    But I get the following error:
    Error 500--Internal Server Error
              javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: The class 'sunrider.reqpoportal.view.backing.ProcessReqs' does not have the property 'FileAttachContType'.

  • About "Upload and download files from ADF into blob type colum."

    hi
    Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 I have tried the example available for download from this blog post by Jakub Pawlowski:
    "Upload and download files from ADF into blob type colum."
    at http://kuba.zilp.pl/?id=1
    First a thank you to Jakub for this interesting example.
    I have a question about a PDF file that I uploaded using the example.
    The file has a size of 10445518 bytes.
    After I upload that file, the blob column has a value with a size of 10445516 bytes, 2 bytes less.
    SQL> select file_name, dbms_lob.getlength(stored_file) from blob_table;
    FILE_NAME
    DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(STORED_FILE)
    ADF-DeveloperGuide-4GL-B25947_01.pdf
                           10445516If I download that file using the example, it has the same size as the blob value, 10445516 bytes.
    If I open the downloaded file, using Adobe Reader 8.1.1, it first shows this message:
    "The file is damaged but is being repaired."
    After that, there is not problem using the PDF file in Adobe Reader.
    I have tried this with both Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 2.0.0.11.
    I have also tried this with other (smaller) files, and those upload and download correctly.
    question:
    Why are those 2 bytes lost during upload?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Hi!
    I can only post you my code that works for me and as I said I had same problems but can't remember what solved them. My code:
      public void fileUploaded(ValueChangeEvent event)
        FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        UploadedFile file = (UploadedFile) event.getNewValue();
        if (file != null && file.getLength() > 0)
          // here I have some messages written and a call to the method on AM to save the uploaded file to the DB
      private BlobDomain newBlobDomainForInputStream(InputStream in)
        throws SQLException, IOException
        BlobDomain loBlob = new BlobDomain();
        OutputStream out = loBlob.getBinaryOutputStream();
        writeInputStreamToWriter(in, out);
        in.close();
        out.close();
        return loBlob;
      private static void writeInputStreamToWriter(InputStream in,
                                                   OutputStream out)
        throws IOException
        byte[] buffer = new byte[8192];
        int charsRead = 0;
        while ((charsRead = in.read(buffer, 0, 8192)) != -1)
          out.write(buffer, 0, charsRead);
       * Launch the upload - see fileUploaded() for actual upload handling.
       * @return null navigation event - we stay on this page
      public String UploadButton_action()
        if (this.getMyInputFile().getValue() == null)
          FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
          FacesMessage message =
            new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_WARN, JSFUtils.getStringFromBundle("fileupload.emptyfielderror"),
                             null);
          context.addMessage(this.getMyInputFile().getId(), message);
        return null;
       * Setter for inputFile UI Component.
       * @param inputFile inputFile UI component
      public void setMyInputFile(CoreInputFile inputFile)
        this.myInputFile = inputFile;
       * Getter for inputFile UI Component.
       * @return inputFile UI component
      public CoreInputFile getMyInputFile()
        return myInputFile;
      }fileUploaded is a valueChangeListener on inputFile and UploadButton_action is as the name says the action for upload button.
    Hope this helps. If not, than your problem is probably not the same as mine was, although the message about file corrupted was the same.
    Next thing you can check in this case is if your file exceeds max file upload size. I don't know the exact default value, but if the file is too long I think this upload logic will upload only a part of the file and save it to the DB which can also lead to the same file corrupted error.
    You can set the max upload value in web.xml like this:
    <context-param>
    <!-- Maximum memory per request (in bytes) -->
    <param-name>oracle.adf.view.faces.UPLOAD_MAX_MEMORY</param-name>
    <!-- Use 5000K -->
    <param-value>5120000</param-value>
    </context-param>
    <context-param>
    <!-- Maximum disk space per request (in bytes) -->
    <param-name>oracle.adf.view.faces.UPLOAD_MAX_DISK_SPACE</param-name>
    <!-- Use 10,000K -->
    <param-value>15360000</param-value>
    </context-param>

    Hi,
    I've a db table with a Blob column which contains an image (".gif" file). I've created a UIX JSP page with the wizard, but I cannot display my image.
    This is my code:
    <%@ page errorPage="errorpage.jsp" contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="/webapp/DataTags.tld" prefix="jbo" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui" prefix="uix" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui/bc4j" prefix="bc4juix" %>
    <%-- Define Application Module and DataSource--%>
    <jbo:ApplicationModule configname="PackageTest.PackageTestModule.PackageTestModuleLocal" id="app1" />
    <jbo:DataSource id="ds1" appid="app1" viewobject="ProvaMediaView" rangesize="1" />
    <%-- Main page contents go here --%>
    <uix:contents>
    <uix:form name="form1" method="POST">
    <uix:labeledFieldLayout >
    <jbo:AttributeIterate id="dsAttributes" datasource="ds1" hideattributes="UixShowHide">

  • Can't play some uploaded content on other devices/mac's.

    I have an issue where iTunes refuses to play some uploaded content on my iPhone, iPad and other Mac's in iTunes. It's not purchased content, it's originally ripped. Even if it were purchased my authorized devices are under five total and I'm on authorized systems. Any thoughts? Is there a way to attempt to re-upload the affected tracks? Any root cause or way I can determine which to work on without stumbling across them during playback?
    I'm up to date on all iOS versions, the Mac and Macbook are on OS X Lion with all software including iTunes up to date. Any thoughts are appreciated. This is annoying me and turning me off of Match.
    Thanks!
    Derek

    On the source iTunes Library enable the iCloud Download and iCloud Status fields in the Song view.  Sort on iCloud Status - by carefully scrolling through you can assess any patterns for the known missing Songs, this should allow you to identify any others 'yet to be discovered'.
    First make a secure backup of all of your Song files.
    Copy the 'problem' Songs into a playlist.
    Burn the playlist to audio CD.
    Delete the Songs from the Library & iCloud.
    Set the import from CD settings to 256k ACC.
    Sign out of the iTunes Store.
    Import the Songs from audio CD into the library.
    Sign in to the iTunes Store.
    Start iTunes Match and allow the 3-step process to complete.
    Confirm status of the Songs in the Song view, sorted on iCloud Status - provided they are matched or uploaded - for each computer sign-out of iTunes Store, restart, sign-in to iTunes Store and start iTunes Match - for each IOS device turn-off iTunes Match, select settings, general, music and swipe to delete all, restart the device, enable iTunes Match.
    Do let us know the result.
