URGENT Creating database in Linux using RMAN dump of windows

Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem in creating a database in Oracle Enterprise Linux using a database dump of Windows platform.
I Have the following-
-->RMAN Backup (for windows database)
-->Archive log files.
Using these i've to create the same database (clone) in linux.
But when i'm try to do this ,everything goes fine except the datafile structures remain same as in windows( like C:\oracle\datafiles\system.dbf instead of /home/oracle/datafiles/system.dbf)
And also i'm not able to restore the full database.
Please suggest me the way to accomplish the task.

Hello
You posted in the wrong forum, you'd better use one of the database forums : http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=18
Anaway, regarding your datafile name strucyture you should look after db_file_name_convert in RMAN documentation. As for your other question, please be more precise (which version, what happens, etc).
But again, post in the right forum and you'll get a ton of answers

  • Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ?

    Hi Friends,
    Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
    (or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here  - Transporting Data Across Platforms
    (or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
    Regards,
    DB

    HI
    his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
    Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
    To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
    List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
    The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
    1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
    2. Start the database in read only mode
    3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
    4. Check if there are any external objects
    5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
    6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
    7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
    8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
    9. Execute the Transport Script
    10.Change the Database ID
    11.Check database integrity
    Thank you

  • Database refresh without using RMAN duplicate

    Hi All,
    I am planning to refresh my test instance to a PIT using RMAN backups from PROD. I would like to know the process without connecting to PROD database and without using RMAN duplicate command.
    Thanks.

    1) You use nid only to change the dbid.
    2) I have done this type of cloning much more than 50 times.
    3) As Iordan Iotzov pointed out, in 11gR2 you can run DUPLICATE database without being connected to the PROD
    Here is a sample code of how to do it assuming both file system are the same:
    # -- RMAN Restore to another server
    rman <<EOF2
    CONNECT TARGET /;
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    SET DBID 987654321;
    CONNECT CATALOG rman/rman@rcvcat
    RUN {
        SET UNTIL SEQUENCE=5678 THREAD=1;
        ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
        RESTORE CONTROLFILE;
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
    RUN
      SET UNTIL SEQUENCE=5678 THREAD=1;
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch1 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch2 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch3 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
      RESTORE DATABASE;
      RECOVER DATABASE;
    EXIT;
    EOF2:p

  • Updating standby database from primary using rman

    I have created a standby database using rman on my oracle linux server, now i want to update the standby from my primary database, but i didn't remember the scn which i used for creating the standby. How can i find out the scn from where i should perform the incremental backup on the primary, so that i can update my standby database with the latest information.

    You simply need to find out which logs on the Primary have yet to be applied to your Standby. Have a look at this (or any Oracle Data Guard docs.): http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10823/manage_ps.htm#1024046
    As long as the logs are available on the Primary server, then they should be sent across to the Standby server. Use the views described in the above link to check for any gaps, etc.

    Hello. I am using Oracle Database Server 11gR1 with Operating System Oracle Linux 5.10.
    I understand how to backup database instance in SQL Server with Windows. But don't really understand how to backup database instance in Oracle with Linux.
    I have done Cold backup and Hot backup for the database instance HRCS90 but both get the same error message.

    My question is:
    Can any folk tell me the specific steps (command by command) to backup a single database instance in Oracle using RMAN ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
    Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. My database instance named HRCS90 is going to be backed up. My backup directory is /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90.
    If database in open state, we must back up in archive log. If database in mount state but not open, we can back up in noarchive log.
    I have tried to back up HRCS90 in archive and noarchive log when database in mount state but not open as below:
    SQL>startup mount;
    SQL>exit
    [user@linux bin]$./rman
    RMAN>connect target;

  • Problem creating database in RHEL3 using dbca

    I have installed oracle 9iR2 on RHEL3 and applied the patch 3006854
    but while installing installing Net Configuration Assistant was not installed it gave an error.
    now I am trying to create database using dbca but getting an error as
    ORA-12546:TNS:Permission denined.
    plz guide me in solving this problem

    At which step/stage in DBCA you get this error?
    You can try to dump out the creation scripts and run them manually see if you can get through.

  • How to create database from scratch using user input

    what I am trying to do is to create database via my java code (using hibernate and my sql) and based on user input.
    The details like the name of table.... or the number of columns in it are all supposed to be determined from user input (only the first time).
    On subsequent run the program should remember the previously created database and hence work with it.
    Can somebody help me through this?
    Suppose I did create it using firing queries from my program then the next problem is how my program would start up next time......?????

    Can somebody help me through this?Presumably because you want to (fun) rather than because you need to (job or project.)
    If the second then don't do it.

Until you figure out the syntax of that you can't do anything in java.

    Were you able to install the XE software correctly? If yes, you should had a working db with you already.

  • Query regarding database access segregation using os authentication in windows environment

    Hi ,
    I have a query regarding database access segragation using os authentication (like sqlplus "/ as sysdba") in windows environment.Let me briefly explain my requirement:-
    Suppose you have two DBA`s viz DBA1 and DBA2 and 4 databases resideds in a windows server say A,B,C & D.Now I want to set up such a way if DBA1 logs into the server then he can login to database A and B only using OS authentication and DBA2 can login to database C and D only using OS authentication.
    Please let me know how to do setup for this requirement.
    Database version is 11.2.0.3

    1494629, I am not a Windows person but if there is any way to do this I suspect some additional information is necessary:
    Are the DBA users members of the Administrators Group ?
    Do all 4 database share the same $ORACLE_HOME ?
    I suspect if either answer above is yes then this is not possible, but like I said I am not a Windows person.  I would just ask for two servers and the associated licensing to be acquired.  The requirement to spend money to do something management wants usually elimanates the request in my world.

    jschell,
    ODBC shell is the odbc.ini or odbcinst.ini? No.
    The shell is something that you explicitly installed. Just like you installed Apache, or perl, or a C++ compiler, or even a CD driver.
    If yes,
    What is the difference between odbc.in and
    odbcinst.ini? No idea. But on a windows box those are ini files that specify odbc info. I don't think ini files are going to help on linux.
    Which of them will be execute when i
    want to establish a connection using "jdbc:odbc:...."
    in DriverManager.getConnection?I am rather sure that neither of them would 'execute'

    Is it MS Access ODBC linux driver is the file like
    libodbc.so, libmdbodbc.so, libmdbsql.so and so on?No idea, but I doubt it.
    What makes you think that you even have a MS Access ODBC linux driver on your box?
    Then, can u tell me which is MS Access ODBC linux
    driver or what is the driver file name for MS Access
    ODBC linux driver?Nope.
    If you installed a MS Access ODBC linux driver, then the ODBC shell will know where it is.
    And if you did install such a driver you should post the link where you got it here, because as far as I know, there is no such driver (nor is there one for MS SQL Server.)

  • Entries to the newly created database table directly using se 11.......

    Hi all,
            I had a query here... i just created a new database table using SE11 transaction.... was wondering if it is possible to directly enter values into the table in se11 itself....cause if some values already exists in the table we can add more using se11 itself..... but if its a new one then its not allowing us to put values... kindly help....
    thanks

    Hi,
    We can enter the values in table. Follow the steps to add entries.
    Open table in SE11 and goto "Display" mode.
    Goto Utilities -> Table contents -> Create entries.
    Now the screen will be opened for new entries. Before this your table settings should be "Delivery / Maintenance Allowed" needs to selected.

  • Migrating database from windows to linux using dbca templates

    Hi every one,
    Is it possible to migrate Oracle10g database from Windows to Linux by using DBCA templates?????????????
    If yes please guide me, as i tried it and am getting error while creating database on linux using DBCA templates of Windows server.
    Warm regards,
    Veeresh.S
    (Oracle DBA)

    With DBCA you can create a new database, delete a database, create ASM, and manage templates.
    There's no option of migrating a database from one platform to the other. If you want to migrate your database from Windows to Linux you have 2 ways of doing it:
    1 using IMP/EXP Export you db on windows and Import it on Linux.
    2 Use across platform transportable tablespace if you db is already on 10g.

    Tony
