Urgent / ORA-12518
We have a team of developers, working on JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 on one of our financial solutions. The problem is that lately we are facing continuously this error forcing us to perform a restart for the DB, although we have increased the maximum number of processes. The strange matter is that this problem has come up recently and before we had no struggles.
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
exchange.al-bonyan.local:1521:oracle
Any recommendations?
Currently our development team consists of 5 members (five concurrent connections), and we use ONLY JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 to connect. The Db is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0

Hi,
Trying to connect to a remote database which worked in 10.1.3 developer preview gives now:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
From sqlplus I can connect. I don't have access to the remote database server/configuration. I tried the workarounds specified here
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=139775.1
I deleted
ojdbc14dms.jar ojdbc14.jar
from jdeveloper and copied ojdbc14_g.jar from Oracle 10g release1 (renamed it to ojdbc14.jar). Then it worked.Hi,
Can you please check the below link from the forum too.

ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
guys,
i have a problem here with the connection between a client host and a server database, using a new non-default listener LISTENER_BKP_1. The error showed is:
ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
i had learned about this error here before, and i toke some notes as follows:

this means that it didn't reach the resource limites yet. What i can do to solve the problem ???
another important information is that connecting by the default listener LISTENER instead of the LISTENER_BKP_1 listener, the connection is completed successfully. There's enough SGA memory space too.

ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connectionDon't do Oracle on Windows, so I'm not sure how the following relates to the Listener dealing with a dedicated server connection request on Linux/Unix.
On Linux/Unix, a dedicated server request means just that - a dedicated process has to be started to service that client. The Listener does it by using the parameters of the configured listener.ora service to execute +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle+. This process then starts up, and the Listener hands off the client connection for this process for servicing.
If there is a failure somewhere on this series of steps fail, the Listener throws the ORA-12518 exception. For example, the +$ORACLE_HOME+ has been incorrectly configured in listener.ora and it fails to execute and startup a dedicated server process.
And this relates to the underlying error you are seeing:
TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
32-bit Windows Error: 2: No such file or directoryI think that the Listener on Windows uses the CreateRemoteThread() Win32 call to start up the server process thread. However, it needs a valid process identifier (of the existing Oracle instance) for this call - and thus needs to first identify the Oracle instance process. Could be that this step uses a ORACLE_HOME reference. And if that directory path is not valid, it is unable to identify the process id of the Oracle instance and thus unable to spawn a dedicated thread to service that client. -
Hi again,
I'm on my enterprise management console and Database Instance and Listener shows the green arrow, but the Agent Connection to Instance shows a red downward arrow and the error:
Status: Failed
Details: ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
My OraClrAgnt service is up and running (using winxp pro, oracle 11gR2), I'm on my home pc, all my ports are open (my machine's name is "abigail" and it is dmzhost)
Any suggestions to resolve this error?

Listener suddenly looses connection to database reporting ORA-12518
Hi all,
This has been causing me endless problems for two days now and I desperately need to leave our database running before the weekend. I cloned our database and moved it to a new server following the instructions in this guide, after a quite a few attempts I finally managed to recreate the control files and startup the database but now it keeps crashing unexpectedly.
The database starts up fine and both the listener and our application are able to communicate with it but after 10-15 minutes, the listener will report ORA-12518 and the only errors I can find are in the clsc.log and css.log, these state;

Wondering about the localhost:port at 127.0.0.1:61100 entry in listener.log, if you have multiple NICs or multiple ethernet interfaces set up, it might be trying to talk on the wrong interface. Verify the IP address. Which OS? Win7? XP? Server 2008? 2008R2?
Please post your ifconfig output, maybe there's a VPN adapter or another interface getting in the way.

After hdd crash, ORA-12518 on new connect
hi,
We have oracle 10g on 32 bit windows system, after hdd crash and replace (with data back from mirror hdd) we get errors ora-03114 ORA-00604 ORA-04030 on one instance. Instance works, but memory used by still grow up. When oracle process reach 1,5 GB we get errors ORA-12518 on new connect. I find data files with strange names (probably recreated by oracle) like O1_MF_SYSAUX_4935PW2G_.DBF for tablespaces: TEMP, SYSAUX, SYSTEM and USERS. I create new temp tablespace.
Can I repair somehow this instance?I get errors from alert_[instance_name].log

2. There is a Validation program which validates (for business requirements) records available in the custom staging table. Based on the validation results the program updates the Status field (a column of the table) to ERROR or SUCCESS. This program uses pl/sql table types with bulk insert and bulk update. While we run the program for less number of records it works fine, but when the volume of data is high (6.6L) we get the following exception:
ORA-04030 (out of process memory when trying to allocate ... bytes).
As an work around we have used "dbms_session.free_unused_user_memory;" statement after every plsql table.DELETE call. But still we get the issue. Can anyone suggest us whats going wrong? If we use of Global Temp Table in place of pl/sql table will it help?
Thanks /SantanuDuplicate Thread

ORA-12518 Failed to handle connections
Please,
I have this error more often for a couple of days, and I'm wondering if there is not a deep reasons causing that?.
This error disappear itself wihtout any error or some times we restart the listener and it goes.
I'm working on 10g, windows 2003
ThanksYou should turn on tracing for the listener to get more accurate informations. Sometimes connections are not properly closed. ORA-12518 basically means the listener is unable to serve further connection requests. When it is a shared server architecture, dispatchers could be overloaded.

Hello, I'm using Oracle 11r1 on a Windows Server Standard SP2 32-bit OS with 4GB of RAM. I've been tasked with load-testing our application running our database through JBoss, and at around 300 threads I begin to encounter this error:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
My listener.ora file looks like this:
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db1)(PORT = 1521))
(DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF)
#DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF added after reading suggestions from other threads
And tnsnames.ora looks like this:
REMOTE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = REMOTE.emb)
I modified this line in init.ora, guessing that the processes might have been getting starved:
processes = 1000
I also tried this in case the processes/sessions parameters for the database were insufficient:
SQL>alter system set processes=1000 scope=spfile;
I tried using this 3GB switch to increase the memory alloted for Oracle, though it had no apparent effect:
C:\>BCDEdit.exe /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? Several sources indicate that it could simply be a lack of available memory, so if anyone can confirm this, I may be willing to accept defeat. I've browsed other answers to this problem but they were either unresolved or unrelated.
Note: I'm very new to Oracle, but willing to learn. If the solution is apparent, I apologize. If more information is needed, please specify the location and process to attain it and which sections are pertinent.
Thanks for your assistance,
-Paul@BelMan:
I added that line to my listener.ora, modifying the file to look like this:
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db1)(PORT = 1521))
(INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER=0)
(DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF)
I also attempted setting the value equal to one (in similar situations, setting parameters equal to zero may cause infinite connection times), but neither of the values worked.
I also tried setting it using LSNRCTL>SET INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT 0. I read on here to "set the value of the INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_listener_name parameter to a lower value than the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter", with recommended values such as 2 and 3, respectfully. However, when I try and set either SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT or INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER from LSNRCTL, I get this error:
NL-00853: undefined set command "inbound_connect_timeout_listener". Try "help set"
I'm unsure of how to configure this value otherwise.
@gjilevski1:
I turned on listener tracing, and re-executed the operation, and this was output to the listener log:
13-AUG-2010 10:35:30 * (CONNECT_DATA=(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=__jdbc__)(USER=EMB01$))(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=REMOTE.emb)) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.100.186)(PORT=59653)) * establish * REMOTE.emb * 12518
TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
32-bit Windows Error: 233: Unknown error
Apparently the Windows Error 233 means "ERROR_PIPE_NOT_CONNECTED"
I verified that the listener was configured for direct handoff (DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF), but how would I configure the database instance for direct handoff, as that note also recommends? Also, what would be considered the 'proper' configuration for both the listener and the database instance, in this situation?
@sb92075:
Connection pooling is being used. Could it be that the sizes are not configured correctly?
Thanks again for your assistance,
-Paul

URGENT: ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found;
Hi, I have a big problem:
I have a PC (PC1) with an Oracle 9.2.0.5 database.
I have other PC (client=PC2) with Oracle forms and reports runtime installed.
I try to execute my .fmx from PC2 and everything was ok.
After that, I installed again in another server (PC3) the Oracle database, and when I tried to connect from my client (PC2) to the new database, it appears the error:
ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found; Product=RDBMS80; Facility=ORA
Why is giving this error? May be the PC3 needs an ORACLE_HOME environment variable or similar?
I've seen the following in relation with oracle_home:
In the PC server (PC3) the ora_home variable in regedit (it doesn't exists as windows environment variable) is e:\oracle\ora92
It's different from oracle_home in PC2 (Pc client) , in which is: c:\orant
Is it important?
Is this error possible because of the TNSNAMES configuration?
Please help me, is very urgent for me.
Thanks a lotHi guys,
I've solved the problem: It was in the TNSNAMES. The service_name was incorrect. I changed it and it worked. -

I don't have a metalink account, I need to resolve this problem urgent please help me.

this problem urgent please help me.
Unfortunately, ORA-07445 errors are better solved with the aid of Metalink and Oracle support. You can post your contents of the trace file that was generated, mainly the stack trace, to see if some would look up the error for you. The problem though is if the only fix/workaround for your problem is in the form of a patch. If that is the case, anyone that provides the patch will be in breach of their support contract.
