URLClassLoader issues
Hi,
I'm trying to create a dynamic "class finding" ClassLoader using URLClassLoader and, at run-time, adding various dependency jar files to the class loader and then creating an instance of a class with this ClassLoader.
However, the issue I am running into is that the ClassLoader is throwing both a NoClassDefFoundError and a ClassNotFoundException.
Here is the code I am using to load the classes dynamically from jar files:
ClassLoader cl = new URLClassLoader(getUrls());
Class<?> clazz = cl.loadClass("com.example.foo.JAXBDevTest");
JAXBDevTest jaxb = (JAXBDevTest) clazz.newInstance();
jaxb.testJAXBMarshalling();Here is the definition of the getUrls() static method in my test class:
private static URL[] getUrls() {
List<URL> urls = new ArrayList<URL>();
try {
String jaxbHome = "/path/to/jaxb-ri/lib";
urls.add(new File("/path/to/mappings/ib-client-mappings.jar").toURL());
urls.add(new File(jaxbHome + "/jaxb-api.jar").toURL());
urls.add(new File(jaxbHome + "/jaxb-impl.jar").toURL());
urls.add(new File(jaxbHome + "/activation.jar").toURL());
urls.add(new File(jaxbHome + "/jaxb1-impl.jar").toURL());
urls.add(new File(jaxbHome + "/jsr173_1.0_api.jar").toURL());
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
return urls.toArray(new URL[urls.size()]);
}The ObjectFactory class is instantiated in the testJAXBMarshalling method of my test object. However, without the jar containing it being on the system classpath, it isn't found. However, this quote from the ClassLoader javadoc suggests that my custom classloader would be responsible for loading it:
+"The methods and constructors of objects created by a class loader may reference other classes. To determine the class(es) referred to, the Java virtual machine invokes the loadClass method of the class loader that originally created the class."+
However, this appears not to be the case as the classes that are referred to by the original class are included as URL's in the URLClassLoader instance cannot be found:

jschell,
Thanks for your response. I'm sorry if I gave you the impression, in my original description, that I wanted URLClassLoader to handle anything other than simple jar files.
Well if you are loading jars or directories then the URLClassLoader does it exactly right.
So there is something in your code or the assumptions that lead to your code which is incorrect.
That being said, the example I presented (that causes the error) was only adding jar file to the classpath by using the URLClassLoader. To be clear it does not add to the class path. That is not possible using any method in java.
And if fact it is usually a good idea with classloaders to insure that the loaded classes can not appear in the class path.
However, even writing a custom class loader, my override of either the findClass or loadClass method is not called.
You should not be overriding those if all you are using are jars/directories.
Is it reasonable to assume, that if I write a custom class loader that loads a class from some location (possibly a jar file) that an import statement in that class that loads another class will use the same classloader? Or does it default back to the original classloader?Import statements have nothing to do with it nor even with how java runs when class loaders are not in play. Imports serve as nothing more than a hint to the compiler (not VM) where to find a class which the compiler can then use to define the fully qualified class name (FQCN) which the VM does use.
The VM decides if a class needs to be loaded. When it loads it uses the context of the call to determine the class loader. The classloader (normal ones) defer to parents to see if the class can be loaded by them.
Thus using String will end up being loaded by the System class loader. On the other hand if you use MyPackage.MyClass2 in MyPackage.MyClass1 where MyClass1 was loaded by a custom loader and MyClass2 is not loaded by a parent then the custom loader will load it (or at least attempt to.)

URLClassLoader Issue on instantiation
Situation:
Running in a servlet, the following class loader is created:
URL[] urls = new URL[2];
urls[0] = new URL("file://lib/lib1.jar");
urls[1] = new URL("file://lib/lib2.jar");
URLClassLoader loader = new URLClassLoader(urls, this.getClass().getClassLoader());
Now lib1.jar contains a class called com.classA
and lib2.jar contains com.classB
com.classA requires/imports com.classB
com.classB does not require com.classA
the following work as expected:
Class A = loader.loadClass("com.classA");
Class B = loader.loadClass("com.classB");
Object b = B.newInstance();
BUT the following line fails:
Object a = A.newInstance();
with a thrown error "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/classB" which is odd, because we clearly found and instantiated B. It appears that once the class is loaded, the resolution of dependencies for the class have reverted to the parent class loader.
Any help appreciated,
-cheeseSolved my own problem. turns out com.classA was in the classpath of the this.getClass().getClassLoader() as well, but in that path com.classB was not present. It is somewhat confusing that a URL class loader will delegate to its parent loader BEFORE not after searching its own class path. Removed the jar which contained com.classA from the parents class path and she sailed like a charm.
No biggie, coding @ 2am can be bad for ones mental health.

Hello All,
I'm making a Java SQL Client. I have practicaly all basic work done, now I'm trying to improve it.
One thing I want it to do is to allow the user to specify new drivers and to use them to make new connections. To do this I have this class:
public class DriverFinder extends URLClassLoader{
private JarFile jarFile = null;
private Vector drivers = new Vector();
public DriverFinder(String jarName) throws Exception{
super(new URL[]{ new URL("jar", "", "file:" + new File(jarName).getAbsolutePath() +"!/") }, ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader());
jarFile = new JarFile(new File(jarName));
System.out.println("-->" + System.getProperty("java.class.path"));
System.setProperty("java.class.path", System.getProperty("java.class.path")+File.pathSeparator+jarName);
System.out.println("-->" + System.getProperty("java.class.path"));
Enumeration enumeration = jarFile.entries();
while(enumeration.hasMoreElements()){
String className = ((ZipEntry)enumeration.nextElement()).getName();
if(className.endsWith(".class")){
className = className.substring(0, className.length()-6);
if(className.indexOf("Driver")!=-1)System.out.println(className);
try{
Class classe = loadClass(className, true);
Class[] interfaces = classe.getInterfaces();
for(int i=0; i<interfaces.length; i++){
if(interfaces.getName().equals("java.sql.Driver")){
drivers.add(classe);
Class superclasse = classe.getSuperclass();
interfaces = superclasse.getInterfaces();
for(int i=0; i<interfaces.length; i++){
if(interfaces[i].getName().equals("java.sql.Driver")){
drivers.add(classe);
}catch(NoClassDefFoundError e){
}catch(Exception e){}
public Enumeration getDrivers(){
return drivers.elements();
public String getJarFileName(){
return jarFile.getName();
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception{
DriverFinder df = new DriverFinder("D:/Classes/db2java.zip");
System.out.println("jar: " + df.getJarFileName());
Enumeration enumeration = df.getDrivers();
while(enumeration.hasMoreElements()){
Class classe = (Class)enumeration.nextElement();
System.out.println(classe.getName());
It loads a jar and searches it looking for drivers (classes implementing directly or indirectly interface java.sql.Driver) At the end of the execution I have found all drivers in the jar file.
The main application loads jar files from an XML file and instantiates one DriverFinder for each jar file. The problem is at execution time, it finds the drivers and i think loads it by issuing this statement (Class classe = loadClass(className, true);), but what i think is not what is happening... the execution of my code throws this exception

I have tried also (as you can see in comented lines) to update System property java.class.path by adding the path to the jar but neither...
I'm sure I'm making a/some mistake/s... can you help me?
Thanks in advice,

URLClassLoader slower than system loader
I'm subclassing URLClassLoader to load jar files on the local file system. I noticed that URLClassLoader loads about 30% slower than placing the jar files on the system class path. In my app, class loading performance in very important -even though it is just a one time hit.
I suspect the URLClassLoader (which I believe is implemented mostly in Java on Sun's VM) is not leveraging the many performance optimziations that the system loader enjoys (which is probably implemented in native code).
I also experience the same performance issue if I try to do jar loading myself using Java ZipFile i/o.
Comments?well there is quite more overhead involved - loading from classpath of course is the most optimized one.

Weblogic Server 10.3.0 and LDAP authentication Issue
Hi - I have configured my WebLogic Server 10.3.0 for LDAP authentication (OID = 10.1.4.3.0) and so far the authentication works fine but I am having issue in terms of authorization.
I am not able to access the default web logic administrator console app using any of the LDAP user, getting Forbiden message.
It appears to me that the Weblogic Server is not pulling out the proper groups from the LDAP where user belongs too.
Can anyone please point me towards the right direction to get this resolved.
Thanks,
STEPS
Here are my steps I have followed:
- Created a group called Administrators in OID.
- Created a test user call uid=myadmin in the OID and assigned the above group to this user.
- Added a new Authentication Provider to the Weblogic and configured it what is required to communicate with OID (the config.xml file snipet is below)
<sec:authentication-provider xsi:type="wls:ldap-authenticatorType">
<sec:name>OIDAuthentication</sec:name>
<sec:control-flag>SUFFICIENT</sec:control-flag>
<wls:propagate-cause-for-login-exception>false</wls:propagate-cause-for-login-exception>
<wls:host>pmpdeva-idm.ncr.pwgsc.gc.ca</wls:host>
<wls:port>1389</wls:port>
<wls:principal>cn=orcladmin</wls:principal>
<wls:user-base-dn>ou=AppAdmins, o=gc, c=ca</wls:user-base-dn>
<wls:credential-encrypted>removed from here</wls:credential-encrypted>
<wls:group-base-dn>ou=IDM, ou=ServiceAccounts, o=gc, c=ca</wls:group-base-dn>
</sec:authentication-provider>
- Marked the default authentication provider as sufficient as well.
- Re-ordered the authentication provide such that the OIDauthentication is first in the list and default one is the last.
- Looking at the log file I see there are no groups returned for this user and that is the problem in my opinion.

The OID version that we are using is not returning the groups the way Weblogic is building the ldapsearch command. We captured the ldap traffic to go deeper and noticed the filters and attributes list that wls was asking. For example, the filter was like:
"(&(uniquemember=uid=myadmin,ou=AppAdmins,o=gc,c=ca)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames))" cn
its was the "cn" attribute that was causing the result set to be empty.
from a command line we tried
"(&(uniquemember=uid=myadmin,ou=AppAdmins,o=gc,c=ca)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames))" uniquemember
and got the results back.
Then we start looking into OID configuration and one of my coworker pointed me towards the orclinmemfiltprocess attributes in cn=dsaconfig entry and told me that they had lot of issues in the past in relation to this attribute.
So as a test we removed the groupofuniquenames objectclass from the orclinmemfiltprocess attribute list and bingo it worked!
Since we needed the groupofuniquenames in this list for performance/other reasons and decided to use a different objectclass for our groups instead i.e. orclGroup.
Thanks everyone for showing interest on the problem and providing suggestions. -
Issue with MSSQL server connectivity from ODI 10.1.3
Hi,
In one of the interface we are populating data to target table in MSSQL server version 2005.
The physical topology connection results successful.
Since so long there is no problem and it is running successful. But suddenly I'm facing issues with this.
I cannot see teh datastores under the model created for this table. When expanding the model, when trying to reverse the model or when I am trying to save any changes in the package I am getting the below error.

I have verified below:
The SQL server version is: MSSQL server 2005
the "sqljdbc.jar" file is there in place "<ORACLE_HOME>/oracledi/drivers"
Java version: jdk1.5.0
There is no change in source or target db. Please help me to fix this issueHi,
Thanks for the reply. The link is helpful and its the same what is there in the environment.
"The JDK version is 1.5 and JRE version is 1.4.2."
But, this was working fine till last week. I am worried, if the issue is due to version compatability why we were not facing this issue before. There is no changes in the environment since go live of this interface.
Thanks, -
Java Development issue/differences between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo (??)
Hi Everyone,
I am a Java developer that uses my 17" MBP Core Duo for all of my development. Lately, I've been trying to use both the Glassfish Application Server V2 (from Sun) and Maven 2.09 from the Apache project. I have configured identical scenarios on my MBP Core Duo and on a 15" MBP Core 2 Duo.
The scenario involves compiling and running some webservices (at least on the Core 2 Duo) in a local development environment. Both machines use the default JDK 1.5.0_13 installed on the machine.
On the 17" Core Duo, issuing a "mvn install" command produces the following error:

I have installed the same software versions and have the same configuration on a Windows desktop running XP SP2 and get the same successful result.
Is this an issue between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? I can't see that it is since I don't believe the hardware influences the software to that degree. However, I am at a loss for what is causing the issue and the Apache Maven list insists that there are developers that are using Maven successfully on OS X.
I really need to get past this issue, but I am at a loss. Please help.

Thanks in Advance.Mr Frank
If i follow your's intructions i got the next:
opatch' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
So, i do it like this...
1. Upack the p17509664_111160_Generic.zip file in "C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\OPatch.
The unpacking produce: C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\OPatch\17509664
2. Shut down WebLogic Server. (It was down)
3. Open a command prompt in admin mode. On Windows, you must run in admin mode because OPatch will admin rights to several directories to lock and create files. (OK)
4. NOT
5.. CD to the directory where the patch was unpacked: cd C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\OPatch
6..Run OPatch with the "apply" parameter and the -oh flag pointing to the ADF home directory & -oh pointing to the jdj
...I use this...
opatch.bat apply 17509664 -oh C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common -jre C:\Java\jrockit-jdk1.6.0_45-R28.2.7-4.

BPEL Composite compilation issues in SOA Suite 11.1.2
I imported a SOA Composite BPEL project developed on SOA Suite 11.1.1 in SOA Suite 11.1.2. When compiling the project through ant using the "ant-sca-compile.xml" generated through JDev in 11.1.1 I am getting the following exception

Exception in thread "main"
Have checked all my classpaths and jar's which are found to be in order. What can be the problem?I changed some of the paths in the build file but now I am having compilation issues. It says the classpath is not set correctly. But I have included all the jar's properly in the build.xml.
Any pointers to where I might be going wrong?

Hi,
When I ran my baseline with one jdbc record adapter there was no issue.
When I added one more JDBC record adapter it fails.
I have mentioned the pass through properly itself

Edited by: 942212 on Nov 23, 2012 10:56 PMJust to confirm, can you check if you have provided the class path in other adapters also. Cuz you are getting ClassNotFound exception which can only happen if you dont provide the class path to AdvJDBCColumnHandler.jar.

RMI "UnmarshalException" issue
Hi,
I am doing a sample RMI application in the following step by step process but in the *8th* step I am getting exception so please kindly resolve my issue.
Step-1: creating Service interface
AddServiceInterface.java
====================
import java.rmi.*;
public interface AddServiceInterface extends Remote
public int add(int a, int b) throws RemoteException;
Step-2: Compiling Service interface
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>javac AddServiceInterface.java
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>
Step-3: creating the Service interface implementation class
AddService.java
============
import java.rmi.*;
import java.rmi.server.*;
public class AddService extends UnicastRemoteObject implements AddServiceInterface
public AddService() throws Exception
public int add(int a, int b) throws RemoteException
return (a+b);
Step-4: Compiling the Service interface implementation class
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>javac AddService.java
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>
Step-5: Start the RMI service
1)openned a new command prompt and typed the following command
2)d:\> rmiregistry
Step-6: Create stub and skeleton classes
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>rmic AddService
D:\BAJI\Programs\JAVA\rmi\rmi_server>
Step-7: Create RMI Server Application which export the Server object into Naming service
RMIServerApp.java

public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
AddServiceInterface asi = new AddService();
Naming.bind("rmi://localhost/as",asi);
System.out.println("\n\n***************** Registored into Naming Service ****************\n\n");
Step-8: Compiling & execute

Hi,
I've been trying to connect to a MySQL database from Java. I have no problems from PHP so the db is fine, but suspect this is a driver issue.
I was using the Netbeans IDE but have now switched to a basic texteditor and command line to try understanding whats going on:
$ javac *.java -cp <other-libs-here>:~/Java/libs/mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin/mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin.jar

Running: CLASSPATH=~/Java/libs/mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin/mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin.jar;export CLASSPATHin bash fixed this problems.
But I really want to get it working in NetBeans, does anyone have any ideas? -

Kindly assist me in resolving this issue thank you all.Again, this is something with the proxy settings :)
Did you disable proxy or add the application URL to the servers list exceptions?
Did you clear your Jcache folder?
