URLEncoder Problems with a Linux Environment

Does anyone know of an issue with the URLEncoder method where in a Windows Environment the string is encoded differently then when it is in a Linux Environment.
I have this method:
URLEncoder.encode(s, "ISO-8859-1");On windows it seems to handle it correctly, and it is encoded differently when run on a linux machine.
Any help will be apperciated thank you.

This is being encoded: Bla Fleck
On the linux environment the name is coming as:
B& #65533;la FleckOn the windows environment the name is shown as this:
B& eacute;la FleckI put a space after the & so that it wouldnt be decoded.

I have to write a code based on OCCI library.

I had the following error message:

Check the gcc version in your Linux distribution. On RedHat Linux AS 3.0, OCCI supports gcc 3.2.3 for 10.1 & 10.2

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions. Before you check on software and driver updates you might want to check your hardware settings. I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

You're the man! I went though line-by-line with the Debian kernel config and indeed, the Ubuntu config had a bunch of debugging options enabled under Kernel and elsewhere.  Just got the kernel built and it's the right size after disabling these debugging options.

Now the real question is why doesn't the kernel-image in the repo have the same huge size?  After all, it is built from the same config file as the one I copied over from the /boot isn't it

  • Problems with SuSE Linux 10 and JMF

Hi, I know that this is a problem of many other people who are working with JMF and I hope we can now find a solution for this problem.
The problem is, that after installing the Java Media Framework and running the jmfinit Programm, the jmfinit programm shows these errors:
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 0
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 1
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 2
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 3
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 4
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 5
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 6
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 7
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 8
    java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 9
The video framerate is also very slow and I think, that this has to do with these errors.
I've installed the latest ATI FGLRX driver for my ATI Radeon X800 and these errors also occured.
I also have only JavaSound Capture in the capture device list, but I'm using ALSA for playing music in Linux.
If anyone gets JMF running under SuSE Linux 10 without these errors and a good video frame rate, please tell me.
If you also have a good instruction fr installing JMF under SuSE please tell me too.
    Thanks, thomas

every linux distro i've installed, gets those errors.rh,suse,debian.
If you do not have a video capture device, you will get those errors.
Are you having framerate issues with webcam or video file??
If it is the webcam, it has nothing to do with your ati video drivers.
The slow frame rate from web cam would be your webcam drivers.
If it is video file frame rate, make sure you have codecs supported in jmf for that type of video.

  • Problem with Windows virtual environment:

I have parallels virtualization and Win7 - 32bit. I cannot download any exe in the Windows environment - the file downloaded is just 1-2 KB whatever be the size. When I run the .exe file, I get "not a valid Win32 app...". I tried Firefox, Chrome, Java, IE9, etc.
I tried all of the following and the problem continues
    1. I tried Virtual Box (Oracle) virtualization software
    2. Windows XP, Windows 7 - 64
    3. Disenable Norton Anti-virus in Mac environment
I tried to download the .exe in Mac environment and then open it in Windows environment. The exe did not get properly downloaded in Mac environment; and I got the same error in Windows environment.

It appears that somehow, Microsoft Fusion Assembly binding logging was turned on and many of the temp folders located at c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\InetCache\IE were filling up with hundreds of thousands of Fusion HTM log files.
This is controlled by an entry in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fusion\ForceLog which was set to 1.  Hopefully, setting it back to zero will fix the issue.  As a result of figuring this out, I have recovered almost 80GB of disk
space occupied by the log files.
I thought WinDirStat would show me what I needed to know, but it turns out TreeSize (which I've used in the past) works much better.

  • Are the Modern App guidelines the problem with the Modern environment?

I spotted some interesting data yesterday. Not surprisingly, Modern apps are not very popular on desktop PC's.
What was surprising was that the number one app on Windows 8 (defined as "engaging") is the Yahoo Mail app. The article explains the reason is that the app does NOT conform to Microsoft's Modern app guidelines and instead gives desktop customers
    an easy to use interface.
As someone who has yet to find a Modern app version of anything I would rather use on my desktop than a desktop version, I wonder if a large part of the problem (getting Modern apps to have some traction on desktop PC's) is the guidelines themselves, which
are clearly oriented toward tablets and essentially ignore desktop users with large monitors.
    article: report

That just about sums it up, Mr_bigworlds.  :-)
Many people crave a tablet to play with.  To watch movies on while on the plane to the executive summit, and of course to play Angry Birds on Saturn.
Many people would like their boss/wife to believe they can (or would) do serious work on such a toy.
It's like being a kid again.  Maybe if everyone says they can get real work done on these toys the bosses and wives will start believing the BS just a little, and you can have one to play with.  Until you're laid off.
It's the very nature of the oversimplification that makes the Metro/Modern toy side not useful as compared to the desktop for serious, complex work.  Big font = small productivity.  Pushing so little information around on the screen is
simply not valuable.  The real world is more complicated than what can be fit on the screen in a 24 point font.
If you think you'd like a larger monitor (or several of them), you're probably a "desktop" user and data producer (or a serious gamer).
If you have always set your desktop to 150% size and maximize your window for everything you do because it's just easier to deal with that way, you're probably more a "Metro/Modern" user and data consumer.
Microsoft should have had the smarts to make strides on
both sides for Windows 8, introducing the new "toy" interface, supported by the App Store, while making the desktop better TOO - instead of trying to herd people off the desktop while there's no reasonable alternative on "the
    other side".

Does not mean that Apple's proprietary EFI is what RHEL expects to see. I run UEFI on PC and Windows 8. Won't work on Mac Pro.
you  need to pull other drives out during install.
You don't 'use Boot Camp for Linux or non-Windows.
I''d pick up one of the newer WD 10K VRs while at it - 250GB $152 200MB/s
People have run Windows Server 2008 and run VMs under it, or run multiple VMs on Mac Pro and been happy -
But start wtih a hard drive for RH and format it from the installer, and pull everything else.

  • PROBLEM with JAVA RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT

HI I installed Limewire & everything but then it said I need a Java Run Time Environment so I downloaded it & installed it but it STILL says the same message:
Sorry, Limewire could not locate a suitable Java Runtime environment. Please download and install one from http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
I HAVE tried restarting my comp and uninstalling it and reinstalling and verifying it on the internet or whatever but it said it couldn't find it on my comp but another part of their webbie says i have the latest version! How do i fix it?
I have Windows XP and internet explorer so i don't have ANY idea? Can anyone help? thanx xx

Why is the Registry invalid? Unless you can assure that this is the only error, it's probably better to uninstall Java and reinstall it, that way any additional errors can also be resolved.

  • Tecra S2: Problems with Linux Live CDs after BIOS upgrade

    Hi all,
a short while ago I flashed the BIOS of my Tecra S2. My current BIOS version now is 2.80. Unfortunately no I have got problems with booting Linux Live CDs like Knoppix or Kanotix. The boot process freezes, when the PCMCIA module is tried bo be started.
What i want to do now is to downgrade my BIOS version. Does anyone know how that stuff works and does anyone have an old BIOS version from 2005? I couldn`t found older versions on the Toshiba support sites.
    Thanks for all answers!
    biberkopf

Youre right. On the Toshiba page you will find only the newest version of the BIOS and the older versions are not available on the page.
In my opinion if you want to downgrade the BIOS you have to ask the authorized service provider in your country for the help.
But did you check this useful site:
    http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/
There you can check the area machine installation help
It provides some useful tips with the device configuration

  • Problem with Adobe Reader Plug-In (7, 8, and 9) on Windows XP

We are experiencing a problem with the Adobe Reader plug-in and viewing documents hosted at our site.  The problem seems to happen with larger (over 5 MB) PDF files enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem never happens when viewing PDF image only files which are not enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem happens inside and outside our firewall, so it is not a firewall problem.  My organization has been hosting PDF files to the web at least all this decade, and this is the first time we have experienced and documented this problem on this scale.  We have ruled out the program creating the PDF file is causing the problem as I have eight sample PDF files created and modified by a variety of programs exhibiting the same issue.

I can reproduce the problem with Internet Explorer 8.0.6 and Firefox 3.5.4 using Adobe Acrobat Plug-In 7.0.9.50 running on Windows XP Professional SP3.  Others have reproduced the problem with 8 and 9 versions of the plug-in on Windows XP Professional and Home.  Oddly, no one has been able to reproduce the problem with Unix/Linux versions of the plug-in or third party plug-ins.  This points to it being something wrong with Adobe Reader.
The problem is when I attempt to view one of the eight PDFs in my browser, I can severely stall or lock it up if I attempt to view more than the first page before the whole document downloads.  Sometimes if you wait it out, the browser will unlock, but not display text on the pages.  Sometimes if you wait for the whole document to load before switching pages, it works.  Sometimes you can start switching pages and the document will not lock up at all.  All eight documents can be viewed without issue if downloaded to the PC's hard drive and then viewed with Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Can anyone point me to a technical document or reason why we would be experiencing this issue?  Even better, does anyone know the solution to these issues?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I looked at a few documents. They appear to be scans and scans that have been OCRd. It is also likely they have not been optimized for page view. This means that the document has to be fully downloaded before viewed. That means the browser may appear to freeze until the entire document is downloaded. Downloading the entire document appears to be a reasonable way to handle these files.
