Usage of intersect in pl/sql .. !
Hello alll......
I have got a small requirement using intersect operator in pl/sql.
The problem is .. While executing the sql statement using intersect operator in sqlplus .. it is executing fine and the result set is shown ..
but when the same statement is written in pl/sql then it is throwing errors.
Please give sggestions :
my sql statement is :
select id as s_id from some where name='vinay' intersect select id as s_id from some where name='vnairajj';
but when i place the same statement in pl/sql it is showing errors :
Procedure :
create or replace procedure sample1(s_name in varchar, s_id out number)
IS
BEGIN
select id into s_id from some where name=s_name intersect select id into s_id from some where name=s_name;
END;
thanks in advance....
please helppp...
Thank you veryyyy muchhh for ur valuable repliess.....
I have changed my procedure like this :
I need to send two names to my stored procedure which hav same ID ..
If both the names match then it will return the id..
It will return a single value...
My procedure is :
create or replace procedure test11(s_name in varchar,s_name1 in varchar, s_id out number)
IS
BEGIN
select id into s_id from some where name=s_name intersect select id from some where name=s_name1;
END;
Procedure was created successfully but while executing it has given an error like :
sql> exec test11('vinay','vnairajj');
BEGIN test11('vinay','vnairajj'); END;

Usage Tracking Error on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 RCU
During an upgrade to 11.1.1.7.131017 recently, I ran into the following error in nqserver.log when trying to implement Usage Tracking on a MS SQL Server 2012 RCU DB:
[2013-11-18T15:19:38.000-08:00] [OracleBIServerComponent] [ERROR:1] [] [] [ecid: 00iIX8GTiKpFw00Fzzw0w00001I00008PG,0:1:1:19:1:1] [tid: 1330] [nQSError: 16015] SQL statement execution failed. [[[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: 22008 code: 0 message: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Datetime field overflow. Fractional second precision exceeds the scale specified in the parameter binding..]]
The workaround I outlined below is not an ideal solution, just a workaround to prevent the bug from occurring until there's a fix:
http://www.emerald-cube.com/2013/12/adventures-in-obiee-upgrade-land-quirks-and-workarounds-episode-i/http://www.emerald-cube.com/2013/12/adventures-in-obiee-upgrade-land-quirks-and-workarounds-episode-i/
Just providing as an FYI in case anyone else searches for this error and needs a solution.

Substitution for logical OR usage in control file of sql loader
Hi,
can anyone suggest me a substituion method to use the functionality of logical OR in control file developed for sql loader.
Ex:
load data
append
into table ABC
when (1:2) = 'AD'
--AND ((27:28)= '01' OR (27:28)= '02')
AND (1222:1222) = '1'
trailing nullcols
Note: condition commented in the above example need to be replaced.
one way of doing it can be splitting blocks for each condition.
Then it will look like:
load data
append
into table ABC
when (1:2) = 'AD'
AND (27:28)= '01'
AND (1222:1222) = '1'
trailing nullcols
into table ABC
when (1:2) = 'AD'
AND (27:28)= '02'
AND (1222:1222) = '1'
trailing nullcols
So, i'm looking for a better way than this, as i cannot work with the above
splitting logic because i'm dealing with lot many conditions.
Thanx inadvance

Sql memory usage increase each time win app runs
Hi,
Sql memory usage increases each time when win app runs. Why does it work like this? Is it normal ?
I restart SQL Server 2012. Only my win app uses SQL server.
First run of winapp.
start memory usage : 211.800 KB
close memory usage: 528.136 KB
Second run of xaf app.
start memory usage : 528.136 KB
close memory usage: 996.844 KB
Third run of xaf app
start memory usage : 996.844 KB
close memory usage: 997.640 KB
Fourth run of xaf app
start memory usage : 997.640 KB
close memory usage: 1.104.864 KBHi,
Sql memory usage increases each time when win app runs. Why does it work like this? Is it normal ?
Yes, it is perfectly normal for SQL Server to acquire and hold onto large amounts of memory indefinitely. This memory improves performance by avoiding disk I/O, query plan compilation and costly memory management.
On a dedicated SQL Server you should usually let SQL Server dynamically manage memory. It will release memory if it detects memory pressure. But if you often run other applications on the server than need significant amounts of memory (e.g. IIS,
application services), you may want to set max server memory as suggested.

Sql Server 2012 Integration Services Catalog views - cpu usage history
Hi,
I am new to SQL Server 2012. I have deployed and executed a SSIS package on the Integration Services catalog.
Now, to analyze the performance of the executed package I wish to query the SSISDB catalog views to retrieve the cpu & memory usage history. Please let me know in which catalog view/table I can find this info.
There is a column named "Process_Id" in the "catalog.operations" table. Can we tie this id to the Sql Server pid/kid and then retrieve the cpu
usage history ?
** I am using Sql Server 2012 **
ThanksHi All,
Thanks all for your inputs. One final question -
As I mentioned earlier, the Sql Server 2012 catalog views
DO NOT capture various performance metrics
(e.g. cpu usage history, memory usage history etc) of
an executing SSIS package . However, I am cognizant of the fact that it is possible to retrieve this exact info
(ie. cpu usage history, memory usage history etc) for
a Sql-Server internally generated SPID (present in [sys].[dm_exec_sessions]).
The approach is to find a way to join/relate the catalog provided "Process_id" to the Sql Server generated internal SPIDs in a session. If I am successful in joining these 2 process ids together,
it will allow me to gather all the information available from both sides - ie the catalog views + the sql-server internal process SPIDs of the session. Thus, by tagging the SSIS pprocess_id to
its sql-server session it will allow to retrieve the resource usage details by the executed SSIS process.
**Please also let me know if the above could be achieved by any other approach.
Any help is appreciated.

The SQL statement is forcing the use of a specific index, is this the best index?:
SELECT /*+ INDEX (OM_COURSE_FEE OCF_CFC_CODE) */DISTINCT CF_COURSE_CODE FROM OM_COURSE_FEE,OT_STUDENT_FEE_COL_HEAD,OT_STUDENT_FEE_COL_DETL WHERE SFCH_SYS_ID = SFCD_SFCH_SYS_ID AND
SFCD_FEE_TYPE_CODE = CF_TYPE_CODE AND CF_COURSE_CODE IN ( 'PE1','PE2','CCT','CPT' ) AND SFCH_TXN_CODE = :b1 AND SFCD_SUBSCRBE_JOURNAL_YN IN ( 'T','R','1','C' ) AND SFCH_APPR_UID IS NOT NULL
AND SFCH_APPR_DT IS NOT NULL AND SFCH_NO = :b2 AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 'X' FROM OM_STUDENT_HEAD WHERE STUD_SRN = SFCH_STUD_SRN_TEMP_NO AND NVL(STUD_CLO_STATUS,0) != 1 AND
NVL(STUD_REG_STATUS,0) != 23 AND STUD_COURSE_CODE != 'CCT' AND CF_COURSE_CODE= STUD_COURSE_CODE ) ORDER BY 1 DESC
Unfortunately, explain plans, even with dbms_xplan.display, may not show the actual execution plan - this is more of a problem when the SQL statement includes bind variables (capturing a 10046 trace at level 8 or 12 will help). With the information provided, it looks like the problem is with the number of logical reads performed: 17,503,305 in 84 executions = 208,373 logical reads per execution. Something is causing the SQL statement to execute inefficiently, possibly a join problem between tables, possibly the forced use of an index.
From one of my previous posts related to this same SQL statement:
SELECT /*+ INDEX (OM_COURSE_FEE OCF_CFC_CODE) */ DISTINCT
CF_COURSE_CODE
FROM
OM_COURSE_FEE,
OT_STUDENT_FEE_COL_HEAD,
OT_STUDENT_FEE_COL_DETL

SFCH_SYS_ID = SFCD_SFCH_SYS_ID
AND SFCD_FEE_TYPE_CODE = CF_TYPE_CODE
AND CF_COURSE_CODE IN ( 'PE1','PE2','CCT','CPT' )
AND SFCH_TXN_CODE = :b1
AND SFCD_SUBSCRBE_JOURNAL_YN IN ( 'T','R','1','C' )
AND SFCH_APPR_UID IS NOT NULL
AND SFCH_APPR_DT IS NOT NULL
AND SFCH_NO = :b2
AND NOT EXISTS (
SELECT
'X'
FROM
OM_STUDENT_HEAD
WHERE
STUD_SRN = SFCH_STUD_SRN_TEMP_NO
AND NVL(STUD_CLO_STATUS,0) != 1
AND NVL(STUD_REG_STATUS,0) != 23
AND STUD_COURSE_CODE != 'CCT'

There is the possibility of additional predicates being generated by Oracle which will make this possible without introducing a Cartesian join, but those predicates are not displayed with an explain plan (they will appear with a DBMS_XPLAN). I may not be remembering correctly, but if the optimizer goal is set to first rows, a Cartesian join might appear in a plan as a nested loops join - Jonathan will know for certain if that is the case.
Have you investigated the above as a possible cause? If you know that there is a problem with this one SQL statement, a 10046 trace at level 8 or 12 is much more helpful than a Statspack report.

SQL Command conversion in abap code
Hi,
I want to implement the UNION, INTERSECT and MINUS SQL commands in abap code. Please give me the appropriate solutions asap.
For Example:
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables
<b>UNION</b>
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables;
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables
<b>MINUS</b>
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables;
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables
<b>INTERSECT</b>
select field1, field2, . field_n
from tables;
Thanks,
RaviHi Ravi
Check out this procedure...
DATA: FRANKFURT(4) TYPE X,
FRISCO(4) TYPE X,
INTERSECT(4) TYPE X,
UNION(4) TYPE X,
BIT TYPE I.
DATA: CARRID TYPE SPFLI-CARRID,
CARRIER LIKE SORTED TABLE OF CARRID
WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE LINE.
DATA WA TYPE SPFLI.
SELECT CARRID FROM SCARR INTO TABLE CARRIER.
SELECT CARRID CITYFROM FROM SPFLI
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF WA.
WRITE: / WA-CARRID, WA-CITYFROM.
READ TABLE CARRIER FROM WA-CARRID TRANSPORTING NO FIELDS.
CASE WA-CITYFROM.
WHEN 'FRANKFURT'.
SET BIT SY-TABIX OF FRANKFURT.
WHEN 'SAN FRANCISCO'.
SET BIT SY-TABIX OF FRISCO.
ENDCASE.
ENDSELECT.
INTERSECT = FRANKFURT BIT-AND FRISCO.
UNION = FRANKFURT BIT-OR FRISCO.
SKIP.
WRITE 'Airlines flying from Frankfurt and San Francisco:'.
DO 32 TIMES.
GET BIT SY-INDEX OF INTERSECT INTO BIT.
IF BIT = 1.
READ TABLE CARRIER INDEX SY-INDEX INTO CARRID.
WRITE CARRID.
ENDIF.
ENDDO.
SKIP.
WRITE 'Airlines flying from Frankfurt or San Francisco:'.
DO 32 TIMES.
GET BIT SY-INDEX OF UNION INTO BIT.
IF BIT = 1.
READ TABLE CARRIER INDEX SY-INDEX INTO CARRID.
WRITE CARRID.
ENDIF.
ENDDO.
This produces the following output list:
The program uses four hexadecimal fields with length 4 - FRANKFURT, FRISCO, INTERSECT, and UNION. Each of these fields can represent a set of up to 32 elements. The basic set is the set of all airlines from database table SCARR. Each bit of the corresponding bit sequences representes one airline. To provide an index, the external index table CARRIER is created and filled with the airline codes from table SCARR. It is then possible to identify an airline using the internal index of table CARRIER.
In the SELECT loop for database table SPFLI, the corresponding bit for the airline is set either in the FRANKFURT field or the FRISCO field, depending on the departure city. The line number SY-TABIX is determined using a READ statement in which no fields are transported.
The intersection and union of FRANKFURT and FRISCO are constructed using the bit operations BIT-AND and BIT-OR.
The bits in INTERSECT and UNION are read one by one and evaluated in two DO loops. For each position in the fields with the value 1, a READ statement retrieves the airline code from the table CARRIER.
Comparing Bit Sequences
Use the following three operators to compare the bit sequence of the first operand with that of the second:
<operator>
Meaning
O
bits are one
Z
bits are zero
M
bits are mixed
The second operand must have type X. The comparison takes place over the length of the second operand. The first operand is not converted to type X.
The function of the operators is as follows:
O (bits are one)
The logical expression
<f> O <hex>
is true if the bit positions that are 1 in <hex>, are also 1 in <f>. In terms of set operations with bit sequences, this comparison is the same as finding out whether the set represented by <hex> is a subset of that represented by <f>.
Z (bits are zero)
The logical expression
<f> Z <hex>
is true if the bit positions that are 1 in <hex>, are 0 in <f>.
M (bits are mixed)
The logical expression
<f> M <hex>
is true if from the bit positions that are 1 in <hex>, at least one is 1 and one is 0 in <f>.
Caution: The following programs are no longer supported in Unicode systems:
REPORT demo_log_expr_bits .
DATA: text(1) TYPE c VALUE 'C',
hex(1) TYPE x,
i TYPE i.
hex = 0.
DO 256 TIMES.
i = hex.
IF text O hex.
WRITE: / hex, i.
ENDIF.
hex = hex + 1.
ENDDO.
The output is as follows:
00 0
01 1
02 2
03 3
40 64
41 65
42 66
43 67
Here, the bit structure of the character 'C' is compared to all hexadecimal numbers HEX between '00' and 'FF' (255 in the decimal system), using the operator O. The decimal value of HEX is determined by using the automatic type conversion during the assignment of HEX to I. If the comparison is true, the hexadecimal number and its decimal value are displayed on the screen. The following table shows the bit sequences of the numbers:

Taking snapshot of oracle tables to sql server using transactional replication is taking a long time
Hi All,
I am trying to replicate around 200 oracle tables onto sql server using transaction replication and it taking a long time i.e the initial snapshot is taking more than 24 hrs and it still going on.
Is there any way to replicate those these tables faster?
Kindly help me out..
ThanksHi,
According to the description, I know the replication is working fine. But it is very slow.
1. Check the CPU usage on Oracle publisher and SQL Server. This issue may due to slow client processing (Oracle performance) or Network performance issues.
2. Based on SQL Server 2008 Books Online ‘Performance Tuning for Oracle Publishers’ (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151179(SQL.100).aspx). You can enable the transaction
job set and follow the instructions based on
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms147884(v=sql.100).aspx.
2. You can enable replication agent logging to check the replication behavior. You may follow these steps to collect them:
To enable Distribution Agent verbose logging. Please follow these steps:
a. Open SQL Server Agent on the distribution server.
b. Under Jobs folder, find out the Distribution Agent.
c. Right click the job and choose Properties.
d. Select Steps tap, it should be like this:
e. Click Run agent and click Edit button, add following scripts by the end of scripts in the command box:
-Output C:\Temp\OUTPUTFILE.txt -Outputverboselevel 2
f. Exit the dialogs
For more information about the steps, please refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312292
Hope the information helps.

SQL*Plus variable assignment works for 8i but not 9i
We have scripts that connect to each database on the box and perform database tasks nightly. The scripts first set the environment then connects to each database with SQL*Plus. This works for 8i but fails in the recently created 9i environment. (Unix Solaris environment)
Because the SQL*Plus connection appears in many areas in the scripts, we assign the following connection string to a variable:
SQLPLUS="/usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus -s 'xxx/xxxxxx@xxxx as sysdba'"
Export SQLPLUS
echo "$SQLPLUS"
(This echo out correctly: /usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus -s 'xxx/xxxxxx@xxxx as sysdba')
It fails when the script calls the assigned variable:
$SQLPLUS <<-EOF
with the following error:
Usage: SQLPLUS [ [<option>] [<logon>] [<start>] ]
where <option> ::= -H | -V | [ [-L] [-M <o>] [-R <n>] [-S] ]
<logon> ::= <username>[<password>][@<connect_string>] | / | /NOLOG
<start> ::= @<URI>|<filename>[.<ext>] [<parameter> ...]
"-H" displays the SQL*Plus version banner and usage syntax
"-V" displays the SQL*Plus version banner
"-L" attempts log on just once
"-M <o>" uses HTML markup options <o>
"-R <n>" uses restricted mode <n>
"-S" uses silent mode
However, if I remove the SQLPLUS variable assignment and changed all occurrence of
$SQLPLUS <<-EOF to
/usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus -s 'xxx/xxxxxx@xxxx as sysdba' <<-EOF
Then the script runs successfully. But this solution is cumbersome.
Any ideas as to how to have the script work with assigning the SQLPLUS variable????
Any help is appreciated.I has an immediate suspicion it might be related to the issue
mentioned in
http://otn.oracle.com/support/tech/sql_plus/htdocs/sub_var2.html#2_7
but this proved wrong: the SP2-306 still occurs in the latest
SQL*Plus.
I wonder what version of 8i you had working? With an old SQL*Plus
8.1.7.0 my connection failed the same as in 9.2 and 10i.
My solution was to do:
SQLPLUS='sqlplus -s'
UNPW='/ as sysdba'
$SQLPLUS "$UNPW" <<EOF
EOFThis worked in 9.2.0.5, 10.1.0.2 and 8.1.7.0.
One common security risk on UNIX remains: putting the username and
password on the command line. On some systems a "ps" command will
show the password to any user. If OS authentication cannot be used
for connection, perhaps putting the username/password in the SQL
script may be more secure?
A final note is that in SQL*Plus 10g, no quotes are needed around
AS SYSDBA, i.e.
sqlplus / as sysdba works from the OS prompt, whereas in 9.2 you need to do
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"This makes a solution easy:
SQLPLUS="/usr/oracle/product/10.1.0/bin/sqlplus -s xxx/xxxxxx@xxxx as sysdba"-- CJ -

Folks
I need to separate SQL statements from Java Code, How do i put these SQL Statements in an XML file and how to access these SQL statements from a Java code,
Any help with sample code is greatful,The use of entities as kstc_jyu may help. It really depends on how you design the XML vocabulary based on the expected usage (e.g., if the SQL statements change very often).
Back to the original question, I am right to interpret "how to use SQL statements in XML ?" as how to design an XML vocabulary to store SQL statements?
If not, you can simply use the scheme proposed by DrClap. Reading and extracting the SQL statement would be just as you would with any other XML document. Google for a Java XML tutorial. -
