USB BARCODE READER

I'd like to use a macbook as POS station. For this I've try a datalogic usb barcode reader wich emulate a simple hid keyboard. It works on windows and linux without specific drivers. Leopard ask me a driver matching this device which of course I don't have (nor I think it exists).
Do you know how can we write a driver for a specific device ? Copying a generic usb keyboard driver should work but I don't know where to look for.
Thanks.

I used a Symbol LS3478 Wireless with USB Basestation.
Out of the box, I just had to scan a few codes in the manual to use UPC codes instead of code 39, and that was it. Works great on my Intel Macbook and G4 Mac Mini.

  • How do you identify a key events source (std keyboard or a USB barcode reader emulating keyboard)?

    I have attached a USB barcode reader which essentially emulates a USB
    keyboard. Having looked through the VC++ V5.0 documentation and some SDK
    documents that I have, I could not find a library function that identifies
    what device sourced the keyboad event.
    Does know if this is possible ? Anyone have any ideas ?
    Thanks.

    If you over ride the "CWnd:reTranslateMessage" function you'll be able to trap keyboard messages.
    ex:
    BOOL CTestexecDlg:reTranslateMessage(MSG* pMsg)
    if (pMsg->message == WM_KEYDOWN && (pMsg->wParam == 13 || pMsg->wParam == VK_ESCAPE))
    // Enter or escape key was pressed; return TRUE to stop default handling
    return TRUE;
    if (pMsg->message == WM_KEYDOWN && pMsg->wParam == 0x30)
    BringWindowToTop( );
    return TRUE;
    if (pMsg->message == WM_KEYDOWN && pMsg->wParam == 0x31 && m_DisplayObject1 != NULL)
    // Enter or escape key was pressed; return TRUE to stop default handling
    m_DisplayObject1->SetWindowToTop( );
    return TRUE;
    if (pMsg->message == WM_KEYDOWN && pMsg->wPa
    ram == 0x32 && m_DisplayObject2 != NULL)
    // Enter or escape key was pressed; return TRUE to stop default handling
    m_DisplayObject2->SetWindowToTop( );
    return TRUE;
    if (pMsg->message == WM_KEYDOWN && pMsg->wParam == 0x33 && m_DisplayObject2 != NULL)
    // Enter or escape key was pressed; return TRUE to stop default handling
    m_DisplayObject3->SetWindowToTop( );
    return TRUE;
    return CDialog:reTranslateMessage(pMsg);

  • Can a USB Keyboard/Barcode reader be used with the USB port on the CRio

    Is it possible to use a USB Keyboard or Barcode reader with the USB port on the CRio, I know you can use this port with a USB memory device, but what about other devices?
    I have a project that requires that all hardware elements be connected to the controller and use the HMI purely for display,
    anybody any ideas??

    Hi kmoyna,
    The standard CompactRIO range's USB host ports are not suitable for standard USB devices like keyboards or barcode readers - they are intended only for use of mass storage devices. From your description, it seems your project's requirements would be best met by the newer models, cRIO-9081 or cRIO-9082. These two units have Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7) and allow the direct connection of a monitor and standard USB devices. We now also have similar stand-alone CompactDAQ models running WES7 - cDAQ 9139.
    I would recommend calling into your local branch to discuss your project further with one of our engineers. If you're in the UK, it's 01635 523 545 - or view contact details for other branches.

  • How would I create an USB Barcode Scanner Listener using Adobe AIR?

    I want to create a USB barcode scanner listener that would read in the scanned barcode, and place the barcode in a field in my AIR App even if the program wasn't focused on that particular field in the App.  If the client was using the application at the time for something else the scan would be buffered in AIR till requested or the AIR App has been idle for x period of time where upon the field would be brought into focus.
    How would I go about this (I'm developing on windows)  Was hoping for a USB solution within AIR but not fussy at all if I have to go outside AIR to solve this problem.  Java, Flex, ActionScript, Flash, C, C++, C#, VB (currently I've developed the rest of the App using Adobe AIR and JavaScript)
    I thought after some research that I could make a Java App (if all else fails) that listens and buffers the input and passes it along using a socket but JUSB doesn't work on Windows properly.
    I'm not stuck on any one particular implementation or idea just want to get development underway so...  Any ideas? or suggestions would be awesome.  I've googled a lot but haven't found any examples or solid suggestions, so any URL pointing to that information would be great too, if you know of a good one, then I'd be able to read up on any suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Marty

    Thanks Joe,
    Just for anyone else.  I bought a Metologic Scanner - VoyagerCG.  I was trying to get it to work using Java USB for a bit with no luck.  But if you get this scanner or one like it, it can be configured as a Virtual COM Port.  Which is very very easy in Java to set up as a listener and use sockets to transfer the data and listen within AIR.
    This PDF has links to drivers and instructions if this is useful to anyone.

  • I want to lock out the PC keyboard while allowing barcode reader input

    I have an application that uses a barcode reader to enter part numbers.  I have been asked by manglement if I can lock-out the keyboard to prevent the users from typing in the part numbers (too prone to error in typing).  As the barcode reader is a separate USB port from the keyboard, is there a way to identify the keyboard port and disable it programmatically?

    Since your barcode reader is USB, you may have the ability to set it up as a COM port.  Several USB readers will either behave as a keyboard or a COM port.  You would then have to modify your software to look at the COM Port.  You can change the control to an indicator and the user will not be able to do anything.
    The other option, which is what I typically do, is to add prefix and suffix characters to the barcode scanner.  I pick a prefix that corresponds to a LabVIEW Key Navigation settign to set focus to the control.  This way, whenever the barcode scanner scans, the control is automatically highlighted and the barcode fills end.  I usually use a suffix of the ENTER key so the data is entered.
    This way, you can hide your control off-screen so users cannot see it.  Use an indicator on-screen.  You can even set the off-screen control to be skipped while tabbing.  The other nice thing with the prefix is I can simulate the barcode with the keyboard by using the special key navigation sequence.  This is not 100% tamper-proof, but most operators aren't going to know what you are doing to skip the barcode reader unless you show them.

  • Mobilemate usb card reader adapter worked well in Macbk pro. suddenly stopped showing up as a device in finder-it is listed as a device in utilities- how do I get it to show up again?

    Can anyone tell me how to get my mobilemate sandisk usb card reader adapter to show up in the finder as a device? Card is good and the adapter was working fine until my boyfriend tried to get it to work in a photo frame. When I plugged it back into my mac bk pro it is not recognized in the finder.
    It does show up in the utilities as a usb device.
    Does not show up as it had before in Image Capture or Iphoto.
    LIke I said it was working in this computer no problem. light is on as if it is reading. card is not locked.
    thanks!

    I reformated the disk with an applecare rep this morning. it did not correct the problem.
    the card works fine when I insert it directly.
    Just trying to find out why the adapter no longer shows up in the finder when it did previously- yesterday.
    This is a usb device. Device shows up in system profiler.

  • USB Card Reader no longer works after Lion update.

    My USB card reader/writers no loger work since I "upgraded" to Lion 10.7.4. All was well with Snow Leopard, but with no built-in SD card reader I must rely on USB readers. Anyone know how to fix this issue? Are there updates avaiable or coming soon to resolve this issue?

    Hi MissMedia 83 and welcome to the forums!!
    This has been a trend that a lot of AppleCare advisors have been seeing as call drivers. Essentially, many of the USB internet modems that are used widely require a 32bit kernel to operate. In Snow Leopard, although the system was in 64bit by defauly, people had the option of booting the computer into a 32bit mode to use the USB modems successfully.
    With Lion, however, no such options exists. If your USB modem device is only compatible with a 32bit machine, then your only options are to either downgrade to Snow Leopard or find a different provider that supports 64bit.
    Sorry to be the bearer of crappy news. My suggestion is to use something like a pocket wifi or personal hotspot, where you have a wifi network that is being created by a small device that connects to the cell network. Much much easier and your computer thinks it's just a regular wifi network.
    This is what I think the issue is anyway. Could be wrong.
    Any other suggestions?

    Just to report that I upgraded to Bios 1.70 and reconnected by USB Card Reader and I rebooted the computer a few times with NO bios hang-ups! Your milage may vary, but I'm happy to see MSI fix this big issue with me!

    ...hmmm...same here, maybe 95% of the time...nevertheless, much improved...

  • Slow USB Card Reader - MacBook Air / Windows 7 64-bit / Boot Camp 3.2

    Installation of Windows 7 64-bit on my new MacBook Air 11" seemed to go flawlessly from the attached USB SuperDrive. I see no driver issues or unrecognized devices in Device Manager. However, when attaching my Transcend USB 2.0 Compact Flash card reader to load pictures from my camera into Lightroom 3.3, data transfer is mega-SLOW. It takes several minutes (10?) to transfer just 4 pictures. It seems like it may be operating at USB 1.0 speeds.
    Installing software from the SuperDrive on the same USB port seems to work fine. Attaching a USB mouse works fine. However, the USB card reader is very, very slow.
    If I attach the same card reader, CF card, and cable to another Windows 7 machine, it works fine, so I don't think there's a problem with my reader / card / cable.
    Any thoughts about how I might improve performance for the card reader on the MacBook Air (other than running Mac OS)?
    Thanks!

  • How to get data from usb barcode scanner and display on GUI

  • How can I get data from barcode reader to forms

    Hi Experts,
    Forms 6i
    I would like to gather data from barcode reader.
    Any idea if you got please share.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I think its working same like keyboard.  Either you type the code manually or you can read it from scanner.  With the help of keyboard you can able to type anything on the cursor position, on the same way the barcode-scanner is also working.  Just like a copy and paste the scanner copies the data from physical device and paste it into your corrent cursor position.  There is no separate program codings needed for this job.

  • Sun Ray - How to get external USB Card Reader working

    Dear All,
    i have the following problem. Maybe someone could help me or give me a clue to solve it.
    SunRay Software 5 installed
    Window 2003 R2 TerminalServer
    Here my question:
    I use a kiosk session with a smart card to conncet to the windows server - works perfect.
    Login Screen and go.
    Now i have to have to authenticate myself with an external usb card reader and smart
    card (connected to the sun ray) to use a certain application on my win2003 server.
    Via the windows rdp session (from the laptops) everthing is ok. The information from
    the card reader is transferred to the server.
    If i use the Sun Ray nothing happens. So here is my problem:
    How do get the authentication information from the smart card to the server?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards
    Hans-Peter

    Basically, reinstall the Boot Camp video drivers manually and if that doesn't work then go to the AMD/Radeon website and install the Windows drivers directly for your video card model.
    If you want to do a search you will find others that have pretty good luck doing it either way.

  • Keyence Barcode Reader & RS-232

    Hey gang! Just wondering if anybody out there has successfully communicated with a Keyence BL-600 series barcode reader (or any Keyence barcode reader for that matter, I'm desperate) via RS-232.
    I have a BL-601 and I can communicate with it when I'm using Keyence's software, but I can't get it to do anything through LabVIEW.
    I've tried using the Instrument I/O Assistant and coding it the "low level way" and I'm just not getting anywhere with it so I decided I would throw my problem into the internet tubes and see what happens....
    Thanks!
    -- Jason

    Communicating with a barcode reader over RS232 is the same as communicating with any RS232 device. You should first verify that you can communicate with it by using HyperTerminal if you're on Windows, or your favorite terminal program if you're using another OS. Next, call up the "Basic Serial Write and Read" example that ships with LabVIEW (Help->Find Examples). Set up the communication parameters as you need. In your case you probably want the "write" off. The VI is not set up to run in a loop so you will need to scan first then run the VI to get the data off the serial port buffer.
    One suggestion: can you use a keyboard wedge with this reader instead? This would make it so that the string you scan would be as if you had physically typed it via a keyboard, and the application wouldn't know the difference.
