Use button to set a variable

hi, can someone help me.
I would like to use a couple of buttons that I made to set a variable. I'd like to use the instance name of the button(s) as the value stored as the variable. how can i code this?

You can use the currentTarget of the event to target the button and acquire its name...

Application.cfm - Should I use queries or set session variables?

Hi,
I have an application that has many users for many different
companies logged in at the same time using the system. I use the
application.cfm to call and set a bunch of variables that make the
system work, such as preferences and things. Would it be better to
use 5 or 6 queries all pulling one record, or call the queries only
once at the start of the session and set 30 to 50 session variables
based on the query results? Which method would bog the system down
less? It seems that session variables use quite a bit of memory.
I'm just trying to get the "simple answer" for this, if that's even
possible.
Please let me know your thoughts and experience on this.

In order to give you a simple "do it this way" answer, more
information is needed.
How long does it take to run those 5-6 queries on each
request? How many users are logged in at peak times? How much data
would you be storing in the session for each user? How much RAM do
you have on your server?
On one application, we've decided to go the session variable
route. The size for each users' session maxes out at 2.5 KB. We
have 512 MB dedicated to CF, but can easily scale up on the
hardware we have to 1.5 GB or more. At 512 MB, 2.5 KB per user
session, we can handle a little over 200,000 concurrent users
(assuming all CF memory could be utilized for session variables,
which isn't true). There are only 6,000 users total in our system,
so we have quite a bit of headroom.
Are you on CF8? If so, open up the server monitor, start
monitoring, profiling, and memory tracking, and log in with a
couple users (with your code setup to store all that info in the
session). See how much storage each session takes. Then look at
your server. How much RAM do you have? what do you currently have
allocated to ColdFusion? What's your peak concurrent user level? Do
you have headroom? Also, see if the benefits of storing it in the
session are even worth it (how long do those 5-6 queries add to
each requst?)

How to avoid escaped XML in "Set Workflow Variable" | "By Composing"

Hi, I have a proplem building an XML document using the action : "Set
Workflow Variable" | "By Composing" dialog.
The value of an element on the left pane is a variable in the right pane.
This variable contains a snippet of XML.
The problem is that when I print out the newly created document the XML I
added to it from the variable has been escaped :
In the example below I created a new xml document called new XML in its
child_2 element I set its value to the XML String "xml".
As you can see, the value of child 2 has been escaped. Is there a way to
turn this feature off ??

I also have this problem. It seems that a crude way around it, is to use a quick
fix via calling a business operation that performs string substitution to replace
the escaped entity references (<) and (>) with "<" ">". I have done this
and the approach works for me. Just be careful and make sure that the xml string
your are cleaning up doesn't contain any of these entity reference that you would
like to keep. Otherwise it will definitily break your xml. I hope you have that
luxury.
The easiest way to do is is to write a StringUtil class with a static replace
function, replace(source, old, new), expose this method as a business operation,
then call twice to convert your xml string.
I know this is pretty pathetic, but might help in the meanwhile until BEA provides
this functionality.

Apex listener installed no test and set bind variables buttons

I have installed Apex listener and while creating restful service module i dont see test and set bind variables buttons in the source region.
I went through the many posts. Installed apex listener successfully.
getting http://localhost:8080/ords/ started message when i start the listener.
and using Apex URL as http://localhost:7780/pls/htmldb.
What are the possibilities for this issues?
Please help me on this.

In Windows 9x you would set it up in the autoexec.bat file
ie.
SET PATH=%PATH%;c:\jdk1.4.2\bin\;
where c:\jdk1.4.2\ is the path where you installed Java.
In Windows 2000 and XP
Right click on My Computer->Properties->Advanced Tab->Environment Variables... Button.
If you see a PATH in System Variables, click that and edit it. If you don't, you will need to create a new System variable.
It should look something like this:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;c:\jdk1.4.2\bin\;

How to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.

Hi,
I have created a web dynpro application, which is running inside portal. I have created a role called "R1". Inside role R1, i have created 3 workset W1, W2 and W3. and inside each workset i have some pages and iviews.
My requirement is when user logins to the portal , and when he clicks on role R1 for the first time, a login page should come (so that we can do revalidation), and when he enters his password again in that login page , then only workset W1, W2 and W3 should be visible/accessible to him and after successful revalidation, if he clicks again on role R1, in that particular portal session, than that login page should not come.
for this, i thought i will set a variable in portal session, whenever user successfully revalidated himself, and if after successful revalidation he clicks again on role R1, i will check in doinit method of webdynpro whether variable is set or not (which i already set on successful revalidation), and if it is set then i will do Donavigation else i will present login page to the user.
Can anyone tells me how to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.

Trying to use multiple if statements to set a variable in my script

I am importing a csv file to create user accounts.. i have it working.. but now i want to have the script look at a variable, and based on that variable set other variables, like the ou or home directory path etc..
here's what i have so far.. it seems to select the 2nd option ASH unless i # it out then it selects the first option..i am clearly missing something simple here.... i can't just use an else statement as i will need many lines of logic to support the many
different ou's, home dir shares etc.. globally...

How to set #HOST# variable used in Chart template using Multiple Domains?

I have a extended question to How can I set #HOST# variable referenced in the Chart template?
In addition to the Proxy layer, we are looking to use multiple sub-domain names into the same Oracle APEX instance (through the one DAD) each mapped to a different application id. Therefore I don't think the solution in the link will work for me - as this embeds a single domain name in the DADS.CONF.
Two questions:
- Is it possible to set the "HTTP_HOST" in "dads.conf" using an existing HTTP Header value? - my proxy can pass on the original domain as "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST". So if it was possible to use (say: using whatever form/syntax of parameterisation is available) ?

changing the CGI environment variables HTTP_HOST, REQUEST_PROTOCOL and SERVER_PORT is the correct way how to resolve this, because it appears that your hiding the web server where you have installed mod_plsql or EPG by a different outside facing web server (also called reverse proxy). That's why APEX gets the host name, protocol and port of the internal web server, but should actually get the values of your reverse proxy web server. Can can fix that by changing the following CGI environment variables.
HTTP_HOST should just contain the domain name (no protocol or port). For example: www.oracle.com
REQUEST_PROTOCOL should contain http or https
SERVER_PORT should be the port for https
I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables.The value of HTTP_HOST is wrong anyway and points to your internal web server, but I assume your developers actually want to get the host name of your external web server if they use it to generate absolute URLs. That's why I wouldn't bother and set it to the correct host name.

Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that
you are accessing the bean from the session with the same name.

Please help me in setting the environment variable using user profile file while using ssh method of connection (Can I use the same ~/.profile file?)
when i am logging in using the telnet, the environment variable is automattically set, but not when I am using SSH.

Please list your .profile and a ls -la of your home directory.
also list the result of env after your logged through telnet and ssh.
There should be no difference - it depends mostly on your login shell which startup script it executes. ksh uses .profile, bash: bash_profile then .profile.

I have one requirement in WAD 7.0.i have made one user input characterstic variable in Bex i.e on 0calmonth.Now i have passed the same variable in WAD drop down button.Now suppose based on the logic on that variable which i have made in bex is like when i select 04.2010 in drop down button it dispalys data for next three months.
Now my user wants same thing to be displayed with the help of button as well. I need to make two buttons one for previous month and other for next month.I made two button using button group and passed that variable also but data is not changing.
How to get the desired output using buttons.
I want two buttons like this <<(previous) >>(next) and i want to pass that same variable which i passed in drop down button and when i press previous button it should display last month data and when i press next it should display next month data.
How to achieve this in WAD with the help of buttons.Give me your useful suggestions.

Hi, The Set-NaOption CmdLet -optionvalue parameter expects a string and it shouldn't matter if that's a comma delimited string containing multiple IP Addresses. I noticed that whilst the cmdlet thows an error it does actually set the option value for all servers so this seems like it could be a bug (IMO). It might be possible to invoke the API using "Invoke-NaSystemApi" but I checked the ZAPI and noticed this also fails using ZExplore from the SDK: ZAPI Request: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I am uploading template,sub template and data xml fle to generate the preview using XDO API's. My main template is calling a sub template so it needs to import the sub template in the main template.since i am uploading my files on a particular server,my subtemplates has been put on different path as specified in the main template.
so i need to change the subtemplate path dynamically at run time.
is there any way i can pass this information to my main template at run time.
one solution could be,my rtf template has a variable 'i' inside it,which is setting the file path to include my subtemplate like this :
