Use of Edge Composition in iBooks Author, a question

Hi folks!
I'm using with great pleasure Adobe Edge Animate 1.0 to make Html Widgets for Apple iBooks Author!
In a composition, I've defined this variable:
var  track1 = new Audio();
        track1.src = "media/track1.m4a";
        track1.volume = 0.5;
and made it play:
track1.play();
All it works but...what if I want that - when I go out from the widget on iBooks on iPad - the track pauses?
I've coded this in my index.html file inside the widget:
    <script type="text/javascript">
   widget.pauseAudioVisual = function() {
    // do this when closing Widget
$.Edge.getComposition(EDGE-114545384).getStage();
    track1.pause();
  widget.didEnterWidgetMode = function() {
    // do this when entering widget
$.Edge.getComposition(EDGE-114545384).getStage();
    track1.pause();
  </script>
... but when I go out form widget the track still plays on....
Any hint?
Many thanks in advance!
Davide

Hi Elaine!
Thanks for your attention!
I've made a simple example with a play/pause button but it doesn't work: when I exit the widget the sound still plays. You can download it here:
www.terredainventare.it/Testaud.wdgt.zip
Accordingly to this guy http://ibooksauthor.es/eventos-de-reentrada-y-salida-en-un-widget-html/, the    widget.pauseAudioVisual and   widget.didEnterWidgetMode should work!
Many thanks for your help!

  • HT5067 When using a Keynote Widget with iBooks Author, do the transitions and builds between Keynote slides appear in the iPad preview version of the iBook, or only in the finished product?

    I'm using the Keynote Widget in iBooks Author, and the Keynote presentation uses the Magic move transition between slides.  When I preview the iBook on a new iPad, the Magic move transitions don't show up (i.e. the transition from slide to slide is standard, not Magic move).  Any suggestions?

    Hyperlinks and magic move should work but don't. However I  found the following as a workaround for me. Use three slides instead of two to generate the magic move effect in Keynote presentations on Ibooks using hyperlinks only. As an example
    Supose an object on  slide 1 was set as a hyperlink to go to a slide which then had a magic move effect to a third slide. For some reason it works on the mac, but not on ibooks. However you can create the magic move transition effect by simply adding a "dummy slide" as follows.  Suppose an object on slide 1 had an object which would hyperlink to slide 4. Duplicate Slide 4, and make the duplicate slide 5. Then set Slide 4  to automatically transition (with no effect) to the next slide (i.e. slide 5) after .5 seconds. Have Slide 5 set to transition to Slide 6 using magic move automatically after .5 seconds. By having the hyperlink point to slide 4 the magic move effect from Slide 5 to Slide 6 works fine (with a brief 1 sec delay). IF the hyperlink pointed directly to Slide 5, the magic move transition to slide 6 would not work.
    For some reason having an extra slide makes magic move work even though it is not needed on the mac. I hpe this helps.

  • Edge Animate and iBooks Author

    Hello,
    Let me start by saying that I love Edge Animate! It is easy to learn with plenty of support and examples. However, I am having difficulty publishing my file to iBooks Author. After publishing my animation file, when I drop it into iBooks Author it will not animate. In this particular animation I use GreenSock GSAP exclusively. Thinking it might be my file, I published one of Adobe's example files and it does not animate either in iBooks. My animation is below:
    https://files.acrobat.com/preview/9f94f319-56d2-43f6-a8b1-ff9acbc2cd1a

    Ok Sarah, I'm trying to solve the problem slicing the pictures and it seems the animation get more speed but I have to slice more.
    In meantime, I have a question: why if I use the 1MB size picture in an animation without symbol it works smoothly on Safari-iPad but, if I "wrap" the same image in a symbol, the animation is ver very slower?
    Many thanks for your help!!

  • Is 256gb enough to use xcode, Microsoft office student, iBooks author and download the iOS sdk

    Please help as I'm not sure whether to get a macbook pro or air. I prefer the look of the air but I'm not sure if 256gb flash storage is enough for what I want to do. I would always surf the Internet and use Microsoft word, excel and PowerPoint but I would also like to try Xcode and iOS sdk. Thank you. However Im not willing to buy the air with 512 gb so if the 256 gb isn't enough then I'll go for the pro.

  • HT5065 can movies be used as chapter start in iBooks Author?

    Hi all,
    part of a book i am designing has a requirement to use movies/moving images as full-page (full-screen) chapter starts. Is this possible? The movies would have text overlaid on them. Many thanks for your time. Best wishes, Richard

    OK KT, if i decide to go the full-screen 'tap to play' route, is that possible with chapter starts? Would this have any adverse effect on other aspects of the book? For instance, the chapter starts have a linked relationship with the contents page, would it affect this?
    However, if it is possible to do this do i simply delete the existing picture, drop in a media widget then insert my movie into that?

  • Header or Index facility on iBooks Author and Pages?

    I'm an academic who has just published an eBook.
    I used iBooks Author to write it, thinking that would be as convenient as Apple equipment normally is....
    BUT: Neither iBooks Author nor Pages has
    a)  Index facility
    b)  Header facility.....
    Finally, to use the Publish facility on iBooks Author one must have a US Tax code.
    This limits the use of iBooks Author to USA Residents only.
    I'm shocked by this restrictive, exclusive limits from Apple iBooks Author...
    PLEASE can this be changed, Apple?!!
    Till then, I feel obliged to write my next book with Microsoft Word: though I shouldn't think iBooks will be able to accept a Word index....!!
    Mark

    Hi Mark
    Apologies for the confusion in not finding the 'masters' - coming from a print background, I tend to use the terminology of the main software I use. iBA calls them 'layouts'.
    These can be accessed from top of the sidebar by going to the two horizontal lines next to the word 'Book', and dragging it down. There you will see the layouts for chapter, sections, etc. Looks like this:
    These are the pages on which are used as the basis for the pages in the book. They can be changed (by clicking on the appropriate thumbnail on the sidebar), copied, or deleted (by right-clicking, and selecting from the options provided). I strongly recommend taking time to familiarise yourself with how these 'layouts' work, and really understanding them. Getting the template right from the outset is imperative. Take a look at the layouts for section and chapter starters. These already have text boxes which are set up to include Chapter name, section name, etc. 'Text variables', if you like. If you scroll down this list in the sidebar, you'll get to some alternative layouts for individual pages – 1 col, 2 col, 3 col, etc.:
    Now - as you rightly point out - iBA has no idea what a facing page is - they are not relevant to what it does - make Apple-only ebooks. but if you wanted an 'illusion' of a facing page, this is where you could make it, by adapting one (or making a copy of one and adapting that), and sticking your name at the top of the page.
    The problem is, this layout would not be used by default. You'd have to select every other page, right click on the thumbnail in the side-bar, and choose "Change Page Layout", whereupon you'll be able to select the layout you created for facing pages:
    One final caveat - you say you want to create a print book from a PDF of this. You say "Print publishers always accept PDF files of my book, and iBooks easily creates PDF versions of the eBook". Have these printers ever used a PDF from iBA to print from before? It might not be as straight-forward as assumed. Print PDFs include crop marks (for imposition), will have 'bleed' if necessary (bleed is where images or colours actual go over the edge of a page), and will use the CMYK colourspace - used in both litho and digital print. The PDFs from iBA have no crops, and so do not support bleed, and the one I have tested was RGB, so you could expect colour variation conversion from one format to the other. And that's without taking into account page size/proportion, etc.
    I would create a dummy book and make a PDF of that, and send it to your publisher/printer, and get them to see if they can use it first.
    In my experience, the print books have always come first - done in specialist software (InDesign/Quark, etc), then the text content is then exported (either via a Word format, or .idml in the case of InDesign), and the resulting file is imported into iBA, and the images formatted (i.e. changed from CMYK to RGB .jpgs) resized, and images imported into iBA.
    Hope that helps.

  • I made a book in iBooks author, and I want to add an intro video. I made one in iMovie, and I want to pass it to the intro of my book. How?

    Hi, I want to move an iMovie trailer into iPhotos so I can add it to the intro of my iBooks Author intro clip. It is for school and I need it urgentrly. THANK YOU!!

    Export it from iMovie into a format that iBooks Author understands. I'm 99% sure it doesn't have to go into iPhoto to be used, but ask on the iBooks Author forum for help with that.

  • Can't load my iBooks Author package into iTunes Producer

    Hi I've written my book in iBooks Author.
    I've used iTunes Producer to load
    all the Meta Data about the book. (ISBN, author, number of pages, categories, pricing etc)
    The Cover art, the screen shots
    Had approved my banking and tax stuff
    All that is remaining is loading the actual book
    On the iTunes Producer Asset screen it says
    "Click choose to select or drag your publication file, or just drag and drop it in the box. For books the file must be in EPUB or iBooks format."
    When I locate the iBooks file of my book (it is an iBooks Author file) it is greyed out and I can't select it or when I drag it, it doesn't go into the box.
    I'm using
    ver 2.0 of iBooks Author
    Ver 2.8 of iTunes Producer
    Should I be converting it somehow?
    When I tried using the Preview/ Publish button in iBooks Author it created a whole new file that was asking me to redo all the work I have previously done loading the meta data. Perhaps this is the only way, but then i can't work out how to add the Preview copy. It only loads the book.

    I have had the same problem, and from the responses I have had to the question it seems it is universal with no way of getting publishing support. Very unhappy situation

  • Enlarge images on tap from iBooks Author to preview on iPad...

    I wonder if anyone can indicate how to output 'all' images to enlarge on tap on preview in iPad?
    While some images output correctly on tap on iPad (they get bigger), others don't. Appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks much for checking it out! After your response and some additional looking around on our part, we're heading down the "it might be Apple" path - perhaps something that happens on upload from Producer (compression, maybe???).
    The reason we're going that way is that we can't really replicate either - without Apple. The upload to the Apple store through Producer seems to be the constant.
    So ...
    Drop shadows visible directly in .iba file in iBooks Author = yes.
    Drop shadows visible in iBooks 2 when using the preview feature in iBooks Author = yes.
    Drop shadows visible in iBooks 2 when directly opening the .iBooks file exported in iBooks Author = yes.
    Drop shadows visible in iBooks 2 in downloaded preview from iBoookstore = no (only in the TOC view).
    Drop shadows visible in iBooks 2 in downloaded (full purchase) book from iBookstore = no (only in the TOC view).
    Here's the link to one of the books this is happening to. If you have the time/inclination to look, would you please confirm if you can see drop shadows? There should be at least one on every page of the preview.

  • Anyone how to figure out how to add footnotes or endnotes in iBooks Author?

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    David

    There are all sorts of ways to make an ePub iBook without using iBook Author. You can even write the raw source code files yourself, if you like, using a simple text editor. iBooks Author just makes the whole process somewhat easier, of course.
    As for footnotes, perhaps they belong to more traditional printing than to ebooks, which offer other ways of linking to additional information. Maybe this is why Apple chose not to include them in iBooks, whereas they are in Pages, which is aimed more at an end result in paper. If you include footnotes in a Pages document and then try to export it as an ePub, the footnotes will be removed.

  • Where is the ibooks author app?  I want to add it to the dock.

    This is weird...  Ibooks Author appears in Launchpad but I cannot find the app anywhere, and so I cannot add it to my dock.  Any clues?

  • How to create Protein or Chemical structures in .pdb or .mol format for use with iBooks Author. Please help.

    Dear Community,
           There are a large variety of software packages used by Chemists and Biologists to view and manipulate Protein and Chemical structures in 3D. They typically have formats such as .pdb, or .mol. I have looked around and none of the software packages that I currently use allow me to export to the COLLADA (.dae) format.
            Does anyone have any idea where to begin to allow me to do this. I would like to try and put in some of the 3D objects into the iBook Author program.
    Thank you. Chase

    I believe that Apple should have provided an easily way to get Pymol images into iBooks Author as VRML has been the de facto standard.  After a number of days, I have a method which works, but this much effort should not be necessary.  Anyway here it is.
    1)  Set the viewport in Pymol to 512,384 to do this in the command window type
    viewport 512,384
    Note, I'm not totally sure you need to do this.
    2) Draw you image in Pymol and output the image in VRML format, to do that
    File -> Save Image As -> VRML 2 ...
    I'll assume that you have given the file the name "pymol_output", you actual get pymol_output.wrl
    3) In a terminal window go to the folder where the above file is located and issue the following command.  This removes some stuff that messes up the lightening
    sed '9,15d' pymol_output.wrl > bender_in.wrl
    4) Next you need blender.  You can download it from
    http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
    5)  Open Blender.  In the upper right corner in the Scene section
    right click on Lamp and delete it
    right click on Cube and delete it
    right click on Camera and delete it
    Save this file so you don't have to do this every time.  I called mine empty_blender_file.blend
    6) Either open empty_blender_file.blend or continue from #5 and read in the file from #3
    File -> import->X3D Extensible 3D (.x3d/.wrl)
    this reads in the file
    7) Write out the file in collada .dae format
    File->export->collada (.dae)
    Done.  This file will read into iBooks Author and have somewhat uniform lighting.  By the way, .dae files can be opened an checked in Preview.  Its easier than going back and forth into the iPad, since you can rotate the image in Preview.
    Hope this helps, let me know if it works for you and if you have any suggestions.
    Finally someone needs to write a one step VRML and X3D to collada converter that will work with PyMol and Chimera etc.
    Have fun!

  • How can I create an iBook using iBooks Author using images from a PDF?

    I have a complex book with custom fonts and lots of images, and the client wants it on the iPad. So my most reasonable option seems to be to take images from a PDF and use them for the pages. However, images in iBook Author don't get "laid out" as expected in Portrait mode. How can I  create a layout that is essentially one image per page in portrait mode, and then convert that to landscape mode? Or is there an easier way to go about this?

    tk0us wrote:
    Make sure you have disabled portrait in the Inspector.
    I don't understand why portrait mode defaults images and other "widgets" to thumbnails. The original format of the book (and of 99% of all books I'm guessing) is in portrait format. By forcing the book to work only in landscape mode it's forcing the page image to be half the size, and that makes using this book particularly difficult. Is there no way to force the pages to be full-size in portrait mode?
