Use of Oracle Concurrent Requests to drive Essbase load and calc

Hi all, we currently have a process which kicks off a check to see if users are online (maxl) , logoff users if necessary (maxl), run essbase calculation with maxl, run eis job if necessary, evaluate if there was any error and report the error back. We want to move this so that it is automated using Oracle Concurrent Manager via Oracle Concurrent Requests. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so typically the best approach ?

Oracle concurrent requests looks like it will run host scripts e.g. shell scripts/... so this shouldn't be a problem to integrate your batch processes with it. If you are scheduling them from a server other than your Essbase server you will need to install the Essbase client on that machine and ensure you use the startmaxl.ksh or update paths as appropriate.
I haven't ran into people using this before however it's not always the Oracle DBA's who manage Essbase.

  • Insert data 32K into a column of type LONG using the oracle server side jdbc driver

    Hi,
    I need to insert data of more than 32k into a
    column of type LONG.
    I use the following code:
    String s = "larger then 32K";
    PreparedStatement pstmt = dbcon.prepareStatement(
    "INSERT INTO TEST (LO) VALUES (?)");
    pstmt.setCharacterStream(1, new StringReader(s), s.length());
    pstmt.executeUpdate();
    dbcon.commit();
    If I use the "standard" oracle thin client driver from classes_12.zip ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@kn7:1521:kn7a") every thing is working fine. But if I use the oracle server side jdbc driver ("jdbc:default:connection:") I get the exception java.sql.SQLException:
    Datasize larger then max. datasize for this type: oracle.jdbc.kprb.KprbDBStatement@50f4f46c
    even if the string s exceeds a length of 32767 bytes.
    I'm afraid it has something to do with the 32K limitation in PL/SQL but in fact we do not use any PL/SQL code in this case.
    What can we do? Using LOB's is not an option because we have client software written in 3rd party 4gl language that is unable to handle LOB's.
    Any idea would be appreciated.

  • How to use the Oracle 10g JDBC OCI driver in JBoss ?

    Greetings,
    I deployed ojdbc14.jar in JBoss and I created an Oracle datasource. I have the following questions:
    1. In the datasource descriptor file I have:
    <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:oci:@(description=(address=(host=localhost)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(SERVICE_NAME=xe)))</connection-url>
    <driver-class>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver-class>
    Is it enough in order to use the Oracle 10g JDBC OCI driver ?
    2. After having looked-up the datasource and created a connection, the classe of these objects are org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrapperDataSource and, respectivelly, org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedConnection. How can I have access to oracle.jdbc.oci and oracle.jdbc.pool packages ?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nicolas

    Hello
    We were banging our heads on a similar thing, maybe this will help
    We needed to convert the wrapped connection to an OracleConnection so that we could do a proxy switch, but maybe you could apply it to your situation anyway
    1-you have to convert the Connection object to an OracleConnection in order to use the method that does the proxy switch
    The method to do this is getInnermostDelegate()
    Once you call this method, you get a new Connection object that can be cast to an OracleConnection object
    See below for the snippet of code
    // now switch the user and reselect
    if (conn instanceof DelegatingConnection) {
    properties.put("PROXY_USER_NAME","peter/peter");
    oraConn =((DelegatingConnection)conn).getInnermostDelegate();
    if (oraConn == null)
    out.println("oraConn is null\n");
    ((OracleConnection)oraConn).openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,properties);
    2-you have to put a setting in the xml file in conf/Catalina/localhost that allows you to call the getInnermostDelegate() method
    By default, Tomcat does not allow you to call this method, it will always return null
    You have to change the xml to allow it to return an object
    It seems that WebSphere and Tomcat both frown on vendor-specific methods that do not comply with the JDBC standards, but do allow it
    Here is the setting:
    <parameter>
    <!-- NOTE: This is necessary to enable access to the Oracle connection object -->
    <name>accessToUnderlyingConnectionAllowed</name>
    <value>true</value>
    </parameter>
    Note, this setting was also put in the conf/server.xml file
    Thanks
    Peter

    Our organization uses an Oracle database hosted on a Unix platform and one of our data processing outputs is a “stuffer” document that has a barcode, and Unix jobs automatically send the document to a printer.
    Is there a way, or does Adobe have a product or solution, to create a PDF version of the document including the barcode, before it’s sent to a printer?

    What format is the document that is printed? Or what technology is used to format the printer? There isn't a standard way of doing things in Unix.

  • I have a mac laptop OS 10.6.5, and recently upgraded to Firefox 4 beta, but when I try to use my hotmail account, it either never stops loading and/or many files either won't open at all or keep crashing.

    There's an HTML5 compatibility issue with Windows Live / Hotmail that affects the Firefox 4.0 betas. A Hotmail rep has said that will be fixed before the Firefox 4.0 Release Candidate comes out.

Any suggestions.

    If it's taking several hours then that is likely due to your internet connection. You can verify at speedtest.net
    6mbps required for instant 720P
    8mbps for 1080P
    You can switch to SD in the settings (which only requires 3mbps)
    You can also check istumbler or netstumbler for interference
    Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS
    The reloading is normal. There is no accessible storage on ATV. The small flash is used for caching streamed content, if you access other things or turn the device off it will be flushed.

  • How do I submit an Oracle concurrent request from inside a page within Apex

    Hi all,
    Have an app that basically loads an interface table.I want to call a concurrent job from the page within my apex app that will submit the concurrent job in Oracle when I press the submit button. The only parameter is group id and typically end user enters 101010.
    I am unsure of the syntax.....
    the dba gave me this as an example but I believe its incomplete and not sure how to complete it or call it. I tried just creating a process to execute after submit but it errors out as in_user_id, in_resp_id and in_appl_id must be declared. Logic tells me I have to provide those somehow but I dont see how it fits into the submit request function.....
    BEGIN
    fnd_global.apps_initialize (in_user_id, in_resp_id, in_appl_id);
    x_request_id := fnd_request.submit_request ('XXBG'
    ,'XXBGBURSTPAY'
    ,NULL
    ,NULL
    ,FALSE
    ,in_outfile
    ,'XXBG_TOP'
    ,'xxbg_pydepadv_ctl.xml'

    This is really not an APEX issue, but a fundamental EBS one.
    You need to find out which respsonsibility and request group your concurrent program is in, and the user who is submitting the request. You can look in FND_USER for the USER_ID, FND_APPLICATION for teh RESP_APPL_ID and FND_RESPONSIBILITY for the RESP_ID. This call sets up the global security context, so if you are calling it from outside of an authenticated EBS session, it doesn't know who you are.
    Then you just call those - you can store them as application variables or jsut hardcode them.
    So here is a sample call:
    begin
      fnd_global.apps_initialize(1, 50000, 275);
    end;So just hardcode it for now - later you can get fancier.

    I spent 2 hours talking with several icontact support people in the Phillipines and at the end of it they told me that it was my computer and the Mozilla Firefox that was causing the problem. After that, Firefox was telling me not to use Google - it was a threatening site.
    Of course, this has been a huge inconvenience, delaying my work. I called my IT person who couldn't find out the problem on Facebook. She said, why don't you try Internet Explorer to open up iContact... ! and it worked fine, so I worked all night to finish the message I needed to send.
    What is going on with Firefox?

    Did this problem start suddenly? Did iContact support suggest clearing your Firefox cache and removing your iContact cookies? Sometimes new add-ons or software updates can create problems with sites that worked normally.
    Depending on your remaining patience for troubleshooting, you might try the following general suggestions.
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    This will open a dialog where you can remove the site's cookies individually.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
    Unfortunately, your "More system details" does not list any plugins or extensions, so it is difficult to suggest the ones that you might want to disable or remove.
    Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    Restart Firefox. Any change in behavior?
    You also could try Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions and problems caused by hardware-based graphics acceleration and JavaScript compilation. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?
    Or... you could try Firefox's Reset feature. This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your old settings will be archived to a folder on your desktop. (I recommend keeping that around for a few weeks in case you need to rescue anything from it.)
    More information in this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
    Does it make any difference?

  • Essbase Defrag and Calc Issue

    I have a calcscript will runs against a BSO cube with 11 dimensions and it runs for 15 mins. The script does some calculations and rollups (AGG and CALC DIMS etc). I can see the blocks go from 15k blocks to 500k blocks at the end.
    And then when I re-run the script, it runs for over 2 hours and of course it's due to the block explosions and all. And so, I do a defrag and clear upper blocks by doing a:
    CLEARBLOCK UPPER;
    CLEARBLOCK EMPTY;
    After this the number of blocks goes way down to 25k blocks.
    And still the calc continues to run over 2 hours. So my question is why this behavior? Is there anything I can do besides reloading the cube from scratch? I know if I do a complete clear it obviously runs the same timing again. But I want to be able to not have to do that. Is there a step I am missing?

    Here are some tips:
    - please review "intelligent calculation" - this feature helps when only a few blocks are changed to limit the recalculation to affected blocks
    - your index cache may be to low - index has grown with number of blocks beyond your index cache size -> more disk IO than your setup can handle
    - overall design needs tuning (block size / density / dynamic calculations / ...) -> contact a consultant
    - what is the business case for 10 min calc time limit? Will users wait for calculation to finish?
    Sascha.

  • Issue encountered when Login as sysdba role using Thin Oracle JDBC Driver

    Hello all,
    we are now considering to use Thin oracle JDBC driver to create database in our project, but we met one issue when we tried to connect to oracle as sysdba role using Thin driver, and it throws java.sql.SQLException: Io Exception: SO Exception was generated, I have found some tips on oracle jdbc website and it says :
    How do I connect as SYSDBA or SYSOPER?
    The only way to do this is to use the Properties object when connecting, rather than specifying the username and password as strings. Put the username into the "user" property, and the password into the "password" property. Then, put the mode into the "internal_logon" property. Something like the following:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("user", "scott");
    props.put("password", "tiger");
    props.put("internal_logon", "sysoper");
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, props);
    When connecting as SYSDBA or SYSOPER using the Thin driver, the RDBMS must be configured to use a password file. See "Creating and Maintaining a Password File" in the "Oracle Database Administrator's Guide".
    So, i did execute orapwd command to create a password file and also set remote_login_passwordfile=execlusive in my initxxx.ora initial parameter file, however, when i tried to connect, it failed.
    private static void createEmsdbDatabase(){
    String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:";
    StringBuffer sqlStatement = new StringBuffer();
    sqlStatement.append("create database xxx");
    sqlStatement.append("maxdatafiles 254 ");
    sqlStatement.append("maxinstances 8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("maxlogfiles 32 ");
    sqlStatement.append("character set UTF8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("national character set UTF8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("DATAFILE 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\system01.dbf' SIZE 18M REUSE ");
    sqlStatement.append("logfile 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo01.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
    sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo02.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
    sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo03.log' SIZE 2M REUSE ");
    try {
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("user", "sys");
    props.put("password", "password");
    props.put("database","xxx");
    props.put("internal_logon", "sysdba");
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, props);
    Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
    statement.executeUpdate(sqlStatement.toString());
    statement.close();
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    But what made me puzzled a lot is if i use OCI driver, it did work great, why??? guys, anybody knows, please give me some tips, thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Kaixuan @ Shanghai

    clarify my question in detail:
    Step 1 : create password file using orapwd command
    Step 2 : create database instance using oradim command
    Step 3 : login using sys as sysdba to startup database, e.g startup nomount pfile='...\initxxx.ora'
    Step 4 : create database.
    java code showing below:
    private static void createEmsdbDatabase(){
    String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:";
    StringBuffer sqlStatement = new StringBuffer();
    sqlStatement.append("create database xxx ");
    sqlStatement.append("maxdatafiles 254 ");
    sqlStatement.append("maxinstances 8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("maxlogfiles 32 ");
    sqlStatement.append("character set UTF8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("national character set UTF8 ");
    sqlStatement.append("DATAFILE 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\system01.dbf' SIZE 18M REUSE ");
    sqlStatement.append("logfile 'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo01.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
    sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo02.log' SIZE 2M REUSE, ");
    sqlStatement.append("'c:\\oracle\\xxx\\redo03.log' SIZE 2M REUSE ");
    try {
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("user", "sys");
    props.put("password", "password");
    props.put("database","xxx");
    props.put("internal_logon", "sysdba");
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, props);
    Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
    statement.executeUpdate(sqlStatement.toString());
    statement.close();
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    issue was met here, when i tried to login as sysdba using sys, and in my java code, i use Thin driver, it then thrus exception, but when OCI driver is used, it works great, i don't know why.
    that is, when i use "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@" as database URL and then properties.put("database","xxx"), it works great. but, when i use "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:" as database URL and then properties.put("database","xxx"), it failed. hopefully, i have clarified my question clearly. thanks.

  • Unsatisfied Link Error when using Oracle OCI (Type II) driver

    Using Oracle OCI (Type II) driver on HPUX with Oracle 9.2.0.4.
    If when creating a connection pool via the console, using the Oracle OCI (Type

    We do not offer a JDBC driver for Linux in version 5.1. In version 6.0,we
    do offer a type 4 driver for Linux.
    In version 5.1, I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver
    available for free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver)
    with WebLogic Server. To download it:
    Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
    From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
    select Oracle JDBC drivers
    From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
    the top).
    Or, to go directly there:

    On the Concurrent Requests table (FND_CONCURRENT_REQUESTS), the OUTFILE_NODE_NAME and OUTFILE_NAME indicate where the output file is stored. As far as I know, this is only on the server running the concurrent manager and not in the Oracle Document Manager System.
    What are you trying to do with your output? If you are simply trying to provide access to it, you might be able to construct a URL similar to the standard concurrent request completed notification (basic email which provides a link to the output of the completed request).
