User Aggregated Function in Discoverer

Hi.
I'm trying to use an "User Aggregated Function" in Discoverer. This function concatenates a varchar field, and I want to use as a max(), min() or count() functions, but Discoverer always write this function in the group block of the query, and the databse generates an error.
This is the user agrgegated function:
CREATE OR REPLACE function DDS_UXXIINV.var_agg (input varchar2) return varchar2
parallel_enable aggregate using agg_t;
The package agg_t is defined as:
create or replace type agg_t as object (
str_agg varchar2(4000),
static function ODCIAggregateInitialize(sctx in out agg_t)
return number,
member function ODCIAggregateIterate (self in out agg_t,
value in varchar2 )
return number,
member function ODCIAggregateTerminate (self in agg_t ,
return_value out varchar2,
flags in number )
return number,
member function ODCIAggregateMerge(self in out agg_t,
ctx2 in agg_t )
return number
create or replace type body agg_t is
static function ODCIAggregateInitialize(sctx in out agg_t)
return number is
begin
sctx := agg_t(null);
return ODCIConst.Success;
end;
member function ODCIAggregateIterate(
self in out agg_t, value in varchar2)
return number is
begin
str_agg := str_agg || value;
return ODCIConst.Success;
end;
member function ODCIAggregateTerminate(self in agg_t,
return_value out varchar2, flags in number) return number is
begin
return_value := str_agg;
return ODCIConst.Success;
end;
member function ODCIAggregateMerge(self in out agg_t,
ctx2 in agg_t) return number is
begin
str_agg := str_agg || ctx2.str_agg;
return ODCIConst.Success;
end;
end;
When I use this functions (as a calculated field) Discoverer generates this statment:
select var_agg(field1), field2 form table group by var_agg(field1), field2;
I want this statement:
select var_agg(field1), field2 form table group by field2;
Sometimes Oracle generates a error messages saying that there's a wrong combinations of joins (translated from spainsh)

Hi,
Unfortunately, you cannot import user defined group functions into Discoverer, Discoverer does not understand them.

  • Passing parameter into select statement by using function in discoverer

    I have created two functions in database named Period_in and Period_out and a global variable  g_period_name
    I have called Period_out function in VIEW(Select statement where condition).
    I have registered Period_in function in discoverer admin then created calculation (called Period_in(:input parameter))in discoverer plus.
    My expectation is user will enter period name and that will hit Period_in function and returns 1 and stores entered period name in g_period_name at runtime. then VIEW will executed and fetches data.
    But i am getting no data found.
    Problem is 2 functions running at the same time in select statement. Please help me to overcome this. Thanks in advance

    SELECT EmpID ,

  • Are Sql functions different from user defined functions ?

    Hello,
    SQL functions are built into Oracle Database and are available for use in various appropriate SQL statements. Do not >confuse SQL functions with user-defined functions written in PL/SQL.according to first paragraph of this document Sql functions are different from user defined functions . How is that ?
    Is they really differ from each other ?

    As you said these Sql functions are pre-compiled , it is clear now that they are pre-compiled platform dependent code .
    Can you provide actual source code of any SQL function , say SUM function .
    I want to see it, how they have defined . Eagerly waiting for any reply. please help .
    Edited by: bootstrap on Aug 19, 2011 11:50 AMYou can ask oracle if they give you their code. I doubt they will. However if you want to write you own user-defined aggregation function, there are examples in the documentation how to do that.

  • Getting "Unexpected end of formula" error in user-defined function

    I created a user-defined function and registered it successfully in Discoverer Admin (10g), and it shows up in Discoverer Plus. However, when I call the function, I get this error:
    "Error in formula -- unexpected end of formula"
    If I hard-code in parameters, I can successfully run the function as such from Oracle SQL Developer:
    SELECT PAYLINETOT('2324', '111', to_date('01-Sep-2010'), to_date('31-Oct-2010'))
    FROM DUAL;
    But I still get the same error if I enter this in the calculation dialog in Discoverer:
    PAYLINETOT('2324', '111', to_date('01-Sep-2010'), to_date('31-Oct-2010'))
    Any idea what's going on and how to get this to work?

    Michael,
    I tried your suggestion, and this time I got a different error message that said that the function had not been registered with the EUL. I thought I had registered it, but when I checked, the return data type was wrong. I corrected it, and the function is "valid" in Discoverer Admin. Yet, when I go back to Discoverer Plus and attempt to use the function (and yes, I logged out and logged back in), I get the same error message:
    "Error in formula - unexpected end of formula - Error: Function PAYLINETOT has not been registered with the EUL."
    Any idea where the disconnect is? Are these two separate errors? How could Discoverer Admin tell me that the function is registered and Discoverer Plus tell me otherwise? And yes, I've made sure that the "Available in Desktop/Plus" checkbox is checked.

  • Calling user defined functions through OBIEE

    Can anyone tell me how I can call the user defined functions on database through the new BI tool.
    The idea is to collect certain parameters through the prompt when launching the request, the function is supposed to pick up the parameters, make a certain calculation, and return a value.
    I wrote the function, I just need help over how to call the function through the BI tool - that was pretty easy in the old Discoverer.
    Thanks.

    Hi Kresimir ,
    You can use EVALUATE function to call a user defined function.
    EVALUATE('FUNCTIONNAME(%1,..)' As DATATYPE,parameter1,...)
    Here DATATYPE is the returntype of function.
    Hope this will help.
    Thanks

  • Error in conditional map using User Defined Function

    All,
    In my mapping I basically have a user defined function that returns the filename of my inbound file from the adapter-specific message attributes (file adapter).  I know this is coded properly because if I simply assign this function to my destination field I can see the filename in the payload XML.
    However if I conditionally check that returned value using if,then,else I get an error message stating:
    "During the application mapping com/sap/xi/tf/_MaterialData2ZcustProdMastMulti_ a com.sap.aii.utilxi.misc.api.BaseRuntimeException was thrown: RuntimeException in Message-Mapping transformation"
    Essentially in my if I'm checking if the value returned by my user defined function is equal to the constant "SOMECONSTANT" then I'm setting my destination field to some other constant value.  Otherwise it's equal to a different constant value.
    Any thoughts?

    Claus,
    Thanks for the help.  I actually had figured the problem out on my own.  Sorry for not updating the thread sooner.  What happened was this (as I suspected it wasn't related to my user defined function).  For the newbies out there (of which I'm one) the problem was I was comparing strings in the graphical mapping tool using the Boolean "EQUALS" rather than the Text "EQUALSS".
    Can you give yourself points for solving

    I am not getting Currency type after the total/sub totals.
    how to fix this in ALV list after using aggregate for the ALV.

  • How can I use Seeburger java functions on SAP XI's user defined functions?

    Hi All,
    As my title implies; how can I use Seeburger java functions on SAP XI's user defined functions?  I've tried searching over the net in tutorials regarding this topic but I failed to find one; can someone provide me information regarding my question? thanks very much.
    best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike !
    You should check your documentation about which java classes you need to reference in the "import" section of your UDF. And also deploy the java classes into the java stack or include them as a imported archive in integration repository...it should be stated in the seeburger documentation.
    What kind of functions are you trying to use?
    Regards,
    Matias.

  • How can I pass dynamic value as a user input parameter in discoverer?

    Hi,
    I have a requirement for a discoverer report like this: The report will display only details for Suppliers that have expired (or soon to be) Insurance details. That is the Expiration Date is less than or equal to the day the report is being run plus any days specified in the Number of Days in the Future Parameter.
    The sample code as:
    SELECT s.segment1 vendor_number
    ,s.vendor_name
    ,flv1.meaning classification
    ,pca.certificate_number
    ,pca.certifying_agency
    ,pca.expiration_date
    ,flv2.meaning status
    FROM ap_suppliers s
    ,pos_bus_class_attr pca
    ,fnd_lookup_values flv1
    ,fnd_lookup_values flv2
    WHERE pca.vendor_id = s.vendor_id
    AND flv1.lookup_code = pca.lookup_code
    AND flv1.lookup_type = pca.lookup_type
    AND flv2.lookup_code = pca.class_status
    AND flv2.lookup_type = 'POS_BUS_CLASS_STATUSES'
    AND pca.expiration_date <= trunc(sysdate) + <No. of Days in the Future>
    order by pca.expiration_date asc
    Now the parameter is Number of Days in the Future (Enter the number days in the future to extract the data. This will default to 0).
    Is it possible in discoverer to do so as in query i do that like a condition as pca.expiration_date <= trunc(sysdate) + <No. of Days in the Future>.
    How can I pass <No. of Days in the Future> as a user input parameter in discoverer?
    Please help.

    Hi,
    All you need to do is to create the condition in the discoverer instead of in the query.
    Create a custom folder containing the following sq (note that i removed the condition)l:
    SELECT s.segment1 vendor_number
    ,s.vendor_name
    ,flv1.meaning classification
    ,pca.certificate_number
    ,pca.certifying_agency
    ,pca.expiration_date
    ,flv2.meaning status
    FROM ap_suppliers s
    ,pos_bus_class_attr pca
    ,fnd_lookup_values flv1
    ,fnd_lookup_values flv2
    WHERE pca.vendor_id = s.vendor_id
    AND flv1.lookup_code = pca.lookup_code
    AND flv1.lookup_type = pca.lookup_type
    AND flv2.lookup_code = pca.class_status
    AND flv2.lookup_type = 'POS_BUS_CLASS_STATUSES'
    Then create a discoverer report using this folder using all fields.
    Create a new calculation as (use this exact syntax):
    Sysdate + :No_of_Days_in_the_Future
    Create a new condition:
    pca.expiration_date <= <your calculation>
    To complete it add a sort as you did in the SQL.
    That's it.

    Hi,
    When I use the below user defined function in oracle reports I got the wrong number of arguments error

    If I remove -14 from the argument it works. But iIneed to subtract 14 days from the date.
    Thanks for your help.

    select test_function(id,a_number,v_date-14,b_number) from dual;
    you have to give the command like this to_date(v_date,'dd-mon-yyyy')-14
    because the v_Date you choose in the parameter form is not having the corrent date format
    the format dd-mon-yyyy is the format in which v_date is passed by the user.

  • User Defined Function VS join - Performance....

    Hi All,
    while linking the mulitple table and getting the values ....which one is the best ?
    Joining or User defined function.....
    single row function
    select a.name , get_salary(empid) from emp a;
    Note : get_salary function will return the salary from salary tables.
    Using joins
    select a.name ,b.salary from emp a, salary b
    where a.empid=b.empid;
    which is the performancewise best ?
    also if you give any related document also fine.
    Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: BASKAR NATARAJAN on Jan 6, 2011 10:09 PM

    Don't use such functions for joins. The function itself has to query the salary table. It will run the query against the salary table separately for each row that it reads from the emp table. You will end up with multiple recursive calls and possibly inconsistency in the output. (Imagine what would happen if the salary table were updated and commited while this query was running -- some rows would have been read with the pre-update values and others with the updated values).
    Specifying the join in the query ensures that a single SQL call is executed and provides read consistency across all the rows it reads. And it is much faster, being one single parse and execute.

    István Korös has finally solved my problem on User Defined Function.
    See
    My objective was to write a simple UDF to represent the following formula which Gordon Du gave me:
    (DATEADD (s, -1,
             DATEADD (mm, (DATEDIFF (m,0,@refdtzz ) + @mthnumber),  0)))
    However, the solution proposed by István, although it works perfectly, leaves me scratching my head. Let's see why?
    The only difference between my solution and that proposed by István is that István enclosed the UDF name between .
    I wonder how this can make the vital difference between a (simple query!) that works well and one that gets blocked.
    I tried several combinations of and am in for a few surprises, listed below. Can anybody explain what's going on?
    Solution proposed by István:
    CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udf_EndOfMonth]
    and executed as:
    select  [dbo].udf_EndOfMonth (@refdt1 , 1)
    Remarks: works perfectly
    If I execute the UDF with exaclly the same name as in CREATE, it does not work
    CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udf_EndOfMonth]
    and executed as:
    select  [dbo].[udf_EndOfMonth] (@refdt1 , 1)
    Error Msg: Must specify table to select from
    If I don't put the , the function is created, but the execution of the calling query returns error
    CREATE FUNCTION dbo.udf_EndOfMonth
    Remarks : Creation OK
    and executed as:
    select  dbo.udf_EndOfMonth (@refdt1 , 1)
    Error Msg: Must specify table to select from
    It seems that the only combination that works is that provided by István.
    This is surely a simple UDF.
    I don't know what to do if I attack a more complicated UDF.
    Grateful if anybody could help light my way.
    Thanks
    Leon Lai

    Hi Leon,
    As István has already pointed out, there is no documentation for those small differences to make the SQL work or not. He must be tested quite a few times to find the actual working code. This question can only be answered by the developer who made this part for B1.
    Thanks,
    Gordon
