User customisable report fields / columns

Hi all,
We want to be able to display a report for our users and then let them choose which columns they can see. Some users will want more or less columns than others and there is no way to pre-define this. Ideally we'd also like to save the selection, perhaps as a cookie, so they don't need to re-select the columns next time in.
Is there any 'built-in' functionality that helps with this or am I going to have to get my hands dirty?! Any pointers would be much appreciated!
Additionally we need to be able to export to CSV the chosen report layout...
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve
I don't understand why you want to use cookies to persist data, in this case. Cookies are stored in the local machine so if your users access the app from another machine they will not have access to their saved configurations (afaik), so I think it would be better to save that data in a database table that you would check when the page loads.
I am not an expert so please let me know if this makes sense or if I am missing something...

  • Persistent user customisation not saved for column resize

    Using 11.1.1.1.0 I've configured persistent user customisations via MDS (as per [http://biemond.blogspot.com/2009/07/customize-and-personalize-your-jsf.html]) but I'm having a problem with column customisation. In adf-config.xml I've selected displayIndex, visible and width as persistent attributes on the column tag.
    My customisations are saved from one session to the next (works great!), however changes to the width of a column only seem to be persisted if a further, more significant layout change is made to the table afterwards.
    For instance, if I do the following:
    - Login
    - Resize a column
    - Close the browser
    Then the column width is reverted the next time I log in.
    If, however I do the following:
    - Login
    - Resize a column
    - Re-order a column
    - Close the browser
    Then the column width is saved (along with the new column order) the next time I log in.
    So, it appears that column width persistence is working, but column width changes on their own do not cause a persist operation; an additional layout change is required to get ADF to save the width details.
    Has anyone observed similar behaviour? Can anyone suggest a workaround/fix?

    Hi,
    sounds like a bug that you should file if you can exclude that your configuration is wrong. I checked for known bugs but did not find one that fits to the problem you report

  • Columns tab in User Defined Report

    I've written a few user defined reports, but so far I've just filled in the SELECT command. I'm looking at the tab labeled "Columns" and trying to understand how that affects the report formatting.
    Am I right in assuming that this is equivalent to the COLUMN command in SQL*Plus? So "Name" maps to the column name in the SELECT, right? "hAlign" and "vAlign" are pretty self explanatory, and valid values for these are listed in the on-line help. But what about "Format"? What are valid values for this field? Do I use the format values from SQL*Plus, like "A30" for a 30 character wide column?
    Finally, is there a way to specify that a column is not to be displayed? I have a primary key that I don't want to display, but I do need to include in the SELECT, because the report has a Child query that needs to use this as a bind variable for a foreign key.

    <p>
    I've found part of the answer to my own question:
    </p>
    <p>
    Formats for the "format" field in the Columns tab are the formats used in the java.text.MessageFormat class. For example, you can use:
    </p>
    {0,date,yyyyMMdd hh:mm:ss}<p>
    The zero means the first argument; it will always be zero because we are only formatting one column. The second part tells what kind of formats to use, date or number. There is also a "choice" format type, which is related to number - works sort of like the DECODE function. The third part is the format itself, which can be one of several default formats like "currency", "percent" and "integer" for numbers, or "short", "medium", "long" or "full" for dates. I used an explicit format.
    </p>
    <p>
    I still don't have an answer to the second part of my question: How do I include a column in my query to be used as a bind variable in a child query, but exclude it from the report?
    </p>

  • Multiple report fields from single physical column.

    Hi Experts,
    I have a physical table like below. Multiple records for a single customer id. The no of Address_type may increase in future.
    Customer_id     Address_Type         Address
    101                  Primary                   abcdefgh
    101                  Secondary               234oij3mb4
    101                  Billing                      mdmnweoij4
    102................etc.
    My Requirement on OBIEE is to display report as below.
    Customer_ID, Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address.
    101                 abcdefgh            234oij3mb4               mdmnweoij4
    Multiple report fields ( Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address ) are derived from same physical column ADDRESS.
    I tried to duplicate the Address column on the report thrice and added conditions like Address_Type = Primary/Secondary/Billing for those three fields respectively.
    But only of the field is getting correct data and rest of duplicate columns are null.
    Tried FILTER function on OBI Answers, but the function fails saying it should be used only on measures.
    Thought the alternative would be to define multiple logical columns at BMM layer. Created multiple alias for same table at physical layer and correspondingly created LTS for each on a single logical table. Defined Fragmentation/Where conditions.
    LTS1 - Address_Type = PRIMARY
    LTS2 - Address_Type - SECONDARY
    LTS3 - Address_Type - BILLING
    Created multiple logical columns from each LTS like Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address from LTS1, LTS2, LTS3 respectively.
    This time, am getting data for all the fields on the report but getting cartesian result.
    Can someone guide me whether my approach is correct or any other alternate best approach to achieve the desired result.
    Note: I have the data Address on multiple physical rows for a customer, rather Not in a single row. which is causing me problem.
    Thanks...
    Ramchand.

    Hi Srini VEERAVALLI,
    I have lot many other fields in the same report coming from other tables.
    Does the Pivot table option for above mentioned Address fields affect other columns?
    If Yes, Can there be any other alternative? Am thinking of Opaque View at Physical layer to bring all Addresses on a single row.
    Thanks...
    Ramchand.

  • How to insert Material group field column in MCV1(QMIS: Vendor analysis - insp. lot) report ?

    Hi Experts.
    Our requirement is to get the material group column in the output report of MCV1.
    I have searched the forum but couldn't find any thread regarding the same.
    So please advice whether it is possible or not? and if possible then what is the procedure for it ?
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    You create Formula Columns in Data Model and display fields in Layout Model. Does "a new forum column" have a typo?
    Searching Reports Builder Help on Formula Columns would find a lot info. Fro example,
    To create or edit a formula column:
    1     In the Data Model view, single-click in the tool palette, then:
    n     To create a column within a group, click in the group at the position you want the column placed in the hierarchy.
    n     To create a report-level column, click in an open area of the canvas region.
    2     Double-click the formula column object to display the Property Palette.
    3     Under the Placeholder/Formula node, double click the PL/SQL Formula property value field.
    4     In the PL/SQL Editor, define the PL/SQL for the formula (e.g., SAL * 0.07).

  • SQL field (not large enough) - Create Report Dialog - User Defined Reports

    When creating a user defined report it would be good to have the sql field the query is entered into bigger. The tiny size is awkward for large queries.

    When you increase the window size, we increase horizontally but not vertically. I will log an enhancement request to see if we can get it longer.

  • 64,000 character limit on UDT user defined field column

    Hey All.
    We are storing more then 64,000 characters into a UDT user defined field column as it stores a large XML document. How can I retreive this information from the UDT using the DI API? Everytime I try to do this using either the UDT object or SAP recordset it chops off the data to 64000 characters. The UDF was created as a "TEXT" type using B1 client and when I look in the database it has a datatype of NTEXT.
    Is this a bug or is there no way using DI API to retreive all the data?

    Curtis,
    Apologies for my delay in getting back to you.
    I do not know the reasoning behind the limit.  As far as 2007A is concerned, the documentation that I was looking at when I first responded to your question was the 2007A SDK Help documentation, so I would say it is the same in 2007.
    I believe that you can use ADO to access data in SAP Business One as there are other ISV's that use ADO, just not access via stored procedures directly to the Business One database.  ADO and ODBC connectivity have rules in place for data validation, although it is recommended that you use the Business One API's for data access as much as possible.  You could also store data in your own tables in a separate database and retrieve from there.

  • Allow users to select Fields that the resulting report would be sorted on

    Is it possible to make available to the users some specific fields from the database that they would be allowed to select themselves which fields they would like the resulting report sorted upon?

    The suggestion that was provided seems to have worked.  But right now I have a situation where I would like to give the users the option to select the desired sort order from 6 different fields.
    Invoice Date
    Due Date
    TransDate
    PO Num
    Invoice No
    Status.
    Right now I have a Sort Parameter created
    Then I also have a Sort Formula generated as follows.
    If {?SortField} = "DueDate" Then {APMASTER.DUE_DATE}
    Else
         If {?SortField} = "TransDate" Then {APMASTER.TRANS_DT}
         Else
              if{?SortField} = "InvDate" Then {APMASTER.INVDATE}
    as soon as I attempt to add another line to this formular that would be for the Invoice No as shown below.
    Else
                 if{?SortField} = "InvNo" Then {APMASTER.INVNO}
    I keep receiving a "A date-Time is required here"  I am assuming it must be because CR is not allowing me to create a formula and/or parameter that is using a mixture of Date and Text fields.
    If you have any suggestion for a work around, it would be appreciated.

  • How to use Value Variable in Report Painter Column defined as Formula

    Hi Gurus,
    In report painter, how can I add one field (exchange rate) in selection screen, so that user can provide the exchange rate to be used, then execute the report, the exchange rate will used to multiple local currency amount.
    The reason for this is we want use provided exchange rate to convert the amount from once currency to the other currency.
    Alternatively I am studying the functionality of "Value Variable" and found that I can perform the task from this. I have created the value variable but when I am using the variable in Report Painter columns as "&ZVALVAR", system is giving me error. I read the help and it states that use the variable with "&" and do it as it is mentioned.
    Can anybody suggest what I need to do to make it workable.
    Thanks

    I did try using the presentation variable, but that does not work too. I am setting session variable in the dashboard prompt (select 'request variable'). When I use presentation variable, it hard codes the value of the variable name.
    sql is
    select date from work_order where facility = @{p_facility}
    the physical log sql is
    select date from work_order where facility = 'p_facility'

  • Planned values of profit centers not showing up in customised report painte

    Hi,
    I made a customised profit center report via report painter.  I have already uploaded planned values in KP06.  In the customised report painter, the record type is "1" (plan) and version is "0" for actual/plan.  The columns for the planned values do not show any figures.  But when I generate std SAP report S_ALR_87013340 - Profit Center Group: Plan/Actual/Variance, it shows the plan values.  In that way, I know that the cost center upload is correct.
    Please advise on how to show the plan values on the report painter.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Thess

    Hi,
    ahhh...the fact that you can see the actual values has made me realize what the problem might be. GLPCP and GLPCA (actual line items) use different fields in regard to the period. I assume that you are utilizing the POPER characteristic to select the periods....correct?
    In that case please try the following: copy library 8A3 into the customer name space (I would always base customized reports on your own library). In your copy activate the RPMAX characteristic. The re-create your report based on the new library and make the following changes: use RPMAX in the general selection and only use POPER in the column definition for the actual values. That should work.
    Regards
    Karl
    P.S....hope you bear in mind that such a report is a potential performance nightmare.

  • What are the steps in creating a customised report?

    Dear Experts,
    can you help me with your expereince what are the steps involved in creating a customised report?
    Who generates the requirement?
    Who prepares the functional spec and what information it contains?
    Who approves the functional spec once it is prepared?
    You can take the followig case as an example:
    The customer requirement is that a report can be run for everything that is received in a given area and compare the price at which the material was received to the standard or moving average price in SAP.
    Here, what information you will give to ABAP ers to devlop the report?
    I would appreciate if anyone can help me with the entire process.
    Full points to be awarded for a satisfactory reply.

  • Inspecting report field position properties

    All,
       Does a way exist to inspect a report fields properties within CR script used in a formula.  I know about using code withing the X+2 buttons in the layout tool, but would like to know in a formula what the position and width of any arbitrary report field in the detail band might be.
    thanks,
    pf

    Thanks for responding.  I need to do this at run time.
        1) Suppose I had 25 columns and each was associated with a boolean report parameter that allowed the user to toggle columns off and on.
        2) Further suppose the user decided that she does not need columns 7, 12, and 20.
         I want to do the following:
             1) suppress columns 7,12,20 (this is easy)
             2) move the remaining columns 8 and greater the appropriate twips to the left.
         I can do all this now but I must "hard code" the field position into a string with delimiters which I later split into an array to use in determining the x offset (if any)  for each unsuppressed column.    Life would be easier if one could just inspect the X position of any field.  Please let me know if this helps in understanding the problem.

  • Code for reports field

    Hello,
    In Administration -> Setup -> Business Partners -> Countries there is a field called 'Code for Reports'.  Does anyone know what this field is for?  I thought it was for possibly putting in a different variation of the country code, e.g UK instead of GB to be displayed on printouts however it is not being displayed when i print preview/print.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Kate

    Hi Gordon,
    I've tried displaying code on the print layout too but this does not get pulled through either.  I would like to use the 'code for reports' field to display 'UAE' instead of 'AE'. 'AE' is the default country code for United Arab Emirates which cannot be changed however the users would like to see 'UAE' instead.
    Kind regards,
    Kate

    The article you found refers to the ActiveX viewer which is used with the COM-based tool called Report Designer Component. Since you have posted to the .NET forum, I'm assuming you're not using the RDC and therefore this article will not apply.
    Recently, Click events were added to the Windows Form Viewer to get similar functionality as the ActiveX viewer. Take a look at the following link for more information....

    However, if you are using the CR Web Forms Viewer in an ASP.NET app, then this functionality is not available.
