User Interface Fonts (CS4)

My wife just got a new PC and a 23.5" widescreen monitor. It's great, but with the high pixel density of the screen (1920x1080), DW CS4's fonts in the menus and other user-interface items are really small and hard for her to see. Windows 7 has a way of setting on-screen fonts to a larger size, which works in most programs, but (unsurprisingly) not in DW.
I think from past discussions that I recall that this is pretty much a lost cause, but since we're thinking of upgrading to CS6 when it comes out, I'd like to know if this situation has been remedied even in CS5 or CS5.5?
With the increase in screen densities this is getting to be a real issue, and it's just not good practice to render these fonts at what is essentially a fixed pixel size. We're also not getting any younger (I'm in my 60s), and it's not fun to have to strain to see what's on the screen.

User Interface (GUI) fonts like menus and such are set in Windows in the advanced Display settings, even in Windows 7.
That won't (or it may - I don't know) increase things like items in the Files panel, but you can set a larger size and different font for other menus.
The Code panel can be adjust infinitely in the DW preferences.
I work on a 1024X600 netbook and a 1440X900 19" monitor, but I still keep the resolution as high as I can get it, even though I need my glasses to see it.

  • Archived User Interface Fonts. Ooops. Now What?

I was adding and subtracting some fonts from my master fonts directory and archived some fonts that are used in Photoshop, specificaly in the "Preferences" section. Now the text is blank in the preference section. What fonts are used there so I can restore them? It looks like this:

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 User Interface Font Size

After years of using happily using an early version of Premiere to edit DV I have finally upgraded my video hardware & software to handle HD.
I am using Adobe Premier Pro CS5.5.1.
I have a 24" WS full hd monitor as my primary monitor.
Can it really be true that there is no way to increase the font size in the user interface aside from changing my screen resolution?
The default font is too small for my old eyes to view comfortably. I'm fairly certain that the old version of Premiere I had allowed
the font & other parts of the use interface (like the frames in the timeline) to be scaled.
Have I somehow missed something in the settings, or did adobe really leave something this basic out of the user interface of an $800
software package? Do I really have to change screen resolution or buy a bigger monitor to increase the GUI font size?

I am so, so, sad at how America and the world has got so lost, it harasses the disabled (I am vision impaired) and the TBI (I am recovered some 30 year later) by keeping the interface letters so small I have no hope of figuring what does what, even though I have repeatedly spend (about) 800 dollars for Adobe (latest) CS5 Adobe Premiere.
Just as Microsoft, abusing the user is casual, needs no explanation, only aversion, and the disabled and the ones actually buying the product can just take a leap- no right click, no text size changes (to the interface) in MS outlook, the directory tree inaccessible.
I am trying to warn the USA citizen of problems I fight since 1981, and the very ignorance and letting things break down....keeps me from learning how to currently get my voice, video, camera (XF305) uploaded.  I have been told to throw away my 800 dollar (or so) Adobe Premiere, get a webcam, forget the 8000 dollar camera, and use You Tube to get a message uploaded direct, fast, without harassment.  Please tell me I do not have to start paying 50 BUCKS A MONTH to STILL not get to creating a video clip merged with another using Adobe Premiere, this breaks my heart to see the decay in the V.A. now widespread into everything, remember this was "not suitable for any purpose" warning Adobe carries from decades ago?  It is evidently more unsuitable then ever, UNLESS STOLEN then I hear it works perfectly and is a work of art.
Rome fell NOT because the veterans were ignored, WHILE things broke down, a SIGN was the vets getting ignored, they being in the bigger government.  Here, modern vets ignored for decades, until too old to fight, and the entire USA seems to teeter, even blocking voices to mention this very same catastrophic issue- levels and more levels of obfuscation and solicitation to spend more money for ever less certain ownership.  Every cubic foot of a city lot taxed, legislated, as things break down

  • CS5/CS4 GUI User Interface Design

I have always been very unimpressed with the user interface design on Adobe CS4.  It's riddled with problems and changes that make no sense and offer no advantages.
For example, there is no longer a normal Windows title bar in many of the CS4 apps.  This makes it much more difficult to maximize/restore applications since normally a Windows user could simply throw the mouse to the top edge of the screen and double click the title bar.  In fact, doing this with CS4 apps has ZERO function (it doesn't do anything).  One would think that by moving the menu commands to the top bar of the window chrome, Adobe would make these menus accessible from the top-most edge of the screen in order to increase usability.  Unfortunately this is not so and clicking the top most edge of a maximized window does nothing.
Two other very important parts of an application user interface are the upper left and upper right corners.  Normally when a Windows application is maximized, throwing your pointer to the upper right corner and clicking will close the application.  Throwing the pointer to the upper left corner and clicking will reveal the application window menu.  This happens in ALL applications... EXCEPT for Adobe CS4 programs.  These two extremely important application window command locations have been completely disabled in Adobe CS4 apps. Clicking the upper most corner pixels in a maximized Adobe CS4 app does nothing.
Then there's the tabbed document window interface.  If you float a document window and maximize that, normally you would expect it to become maximized within the application window as it should.  Au contraire, in Adobe CS4, the document window maximizes itself ON TOP OF the application window, thus obscuring and disabling any access to the application window's tools/commands.  I did report that as a bug during beta, but obviously it was ignored.  Seems kind of obvious to me that the fact that a user could accidentally make the entire application completely unusable by maximizing a document window might be a problem.
It still alludes me as to why Adobe changed the CS4 user interface to something that breaks so many Windows UI conventions.  Adobe CS3 was a practically perfect user interface design on Windows.  It was very customizable, all of the normal Windows functions were properly in place.
What's the deal with the change?
I thought maybe the file menu was moved in place of the title bar in order to make more room for other UI elements, but it's actually pretty much the same size as the old file menu title bar combination in CS3.
With all these changes and with all the functionality losses, what exactly have we gained in the CS4 GUI?  Seriously, I'm asking.
Anyway, I hope Adobe starts reading the Windows User Experience Guidelines (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511331.aspx) and brings CS5 back to the way a Windows application should behave.  Proper theme adherence would be nice too.
Which brings me to Windows 7.  I love love love the way Windows 7 groups application document previews in one taskbar icon and allows aero-peek for open windows.  Adobe CS 4 obviously does not support this since it does not have normal document windows.  I hope CS5 does because it is a great feature.  I also hope Adobe CS5 implements the Windows 7 jumplists and maybe even a more touch/multi-touch friendly interface.  I've become pretty good at processing photos in Bridge using the touchscreen, and it's very cool, but it could use some improvements.
For an example of great user interface design, has anyone tried Office 2010 on Windows 7 yet?  http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090512/screencaps-office-2010-technical-preview-teched- 2009-keynote/
The faded transparent title bar and tabbed ribbon interface is absolutely gorgeous.

    @Adam:
I agree with your comments! So well said!
And there are other issues, too -- by the color of the app window, you don't know if the window is active or inactive (focus or not in focus). Titles of panels which are inactive, are dark text over dark background -- hardly readable at all... And many more.
I really hope Adobe are listening...

  • CS4 Interface fonts

    Hi,
I'm just getting into using InDesign CS4, and there are some things I don't like about the interface.  I hated the all-caps on the interface fonts but got rid of them with the InDesign Secrets tip.  However, the type itself is a little small.  Is there a way to make it bigger without changing the monitor resolution?  I mostly go by the icons, but I have a few libraries that I use too and keep in the panel (and those all have the same icon).
    Thanks, Phyllis

It has been noticed that the name 'Suite' is possibly not the best choice for the CS collection -- there are huge differences in the interface between PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I just noticed PhotoShop CS4 has an option "UI Font Size"; with a possible selection of not points or even pixels, but restricted to "Small", "Medium", and "Large". The difference is hardly noticeable on my 24" screen:
-- left is "small", right is "large".
It's a start. Perhaps CS5 will finally be unified.

  • Can you change size of fonts in premiere pro user interface -- the text is often so small it is hard to read

The text is often so small it is hard to read.  It would be nice if as in the Blender animation program you can easily increase the size of fonts used in the program's user interface, through the "preferences" menu item.

    Hi Ewporter,
Sorry, sounds like an excellent feature request, though. Make it here: http://adobe.ly/feature_request
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • UI (User Interface) text size and colors

Recent versions of Elements (7, 8, 9) have changed to a user interface which is predominantly shades of gray and black with few if any user options for color or font. The font size cannot be altered because Adobe use their own pixel-based font which is not compatible with Windows Desktop settings. So on many flat screens with high resolutions the font becomes almost unreadable. The upper case 'E' in the menu bar Edit for example, is a mere 2.03mm high on a 22" display at 1920x1080 resolution.
This has been mentioned a number of times over these releases to no avail, but at last there may be a change on the way for PSE 10 (later later this year?).
So if you feel the gray/black UI needs attention I suggest you visit
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/my_eyes_need_help_with_photoshop
where there are a number of comments. This is monitored by Adobe so may influence the next release. The more request there are I suspect the more likely some action. Adobe have already commented: "The amount of conversation that this thread has generated among Elements customers was unanticipated." on the thread.
If you wish to place a comment you will need a Photoshop Account and to be logged in. If you didn't create an account when you installed the product then just click Create Account at the top of the link above.

Font sizes are hard-coded in teh apps and there is no way to change that. The new CC versiosn support high-DPI displays and resolve those issues (mostly).

1)the data is fetched from db and displayed in non-editable format
    2)Next button is clicked
3)Now in the same jsp page I view the same data from db in editable format
4)The user is allowed to change the information
    5)Now update button is clicked
6)the records are updated in the db -Finished doing till this step
7)But the updated info in non - editable format to be displayed in jsp page is left pending.
Here is my code for jsp,i want know how to write an action for this, tried doing the same in java and I'm successful.but what I need is how to fetch the updated information in the user interface.
I've made both editable as well as non editable info in the same page with different actions.

u r using action classes. so after calling the insert method in Action Class to a dao... the next statement should be retrieve statement. so at the time of updating first it will get updated.. the next statement it will execute is retrieve and then set these details in VO or FORM and show it on JSP

  • Issue in the user interface of ICSS application

    Hi Experts,
Please find the below description of the issue.
Ours is a migration project of ICSS application from one landscape to another landscape. Both the landscapes are in CRM 7.0 with the same patch levels.
For this migration we have copied the existing track A to the new track B and mapped to the new CRM 7.0 B system.
The XCM setting has maintained in the new B system exactly the same way like the A system
All the related backend code like FMs, Data Dictionary objects etc in CRM 7.0 A system has been moved to the CRM 7.0 B System.
After this when we tried to run the application B, we are not seeing the same user interface like in application A.
We are seeing only black font with white background. The color combination, fonts, styles etc like in application A are not visible in application B.
There are no CSS files in the XCM settings in A system. So I have also not maintained in B system.
We have not done any changes in the track. So we have not deployed the application.
I have created the projects for both the tracks A and B and compared the code manually. Everything is same.
      Question:
Please let me know what needs to be done additionally to get the same user interface.
Is Shopadmin settings has to be maintained. Is this mandatory.
       Thanks in advance.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Raghu

    Hello Waldemar,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to your support request. We have been on holiday for the past few days due to Thanksgiving.
From the information you have provided here, it sounds like you are on the right track with getting your application up and running with a chinese font interface. I would like to point out an extremely helpful KnowledgeBase that you might use for reference now and any other time you need to localize your user interface:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/5987FCAFE3FBE8B98625693B0052EBD9?OpenDocument
(This KB was written for LabVIEW 6.0, but is still relevant for LabVIEW 7.0.) Based on this document, you only need "an MBCS-enabled operating s
ystem with an IME for the corresponding language." All 32-bit Windows operating systems are MBCS-enabled. Please see these links from the Microsoft website for more information:
    http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?View=msdn&st=a&qu=mbcs&c=4&s=2
You may also find this tutorial describing localization procedures useful:

I would recommend that you go ahead and install the Chinese fonts to your OS (if you have not already), and develop your user interface using the new font. This application should have no problem on any other machine with the Chinese font enabled.
I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can help with or clarify. Have a great day!

  • How do I fix incorrect resolution for Firefox user interface on Retina display Mac?

I have a 15" retina display Mac (roughly a year old) running Mountain Lion. A couple weeks ago the user interface in Firefox seems have switched from using the normal zoom level of every other application to the native dpi of the retina display monitor. This means that the UI elements are all extremely tiny, etc. Is there anyway to reset this without simply reinstalling or reseting the rest of my configuration?
    Currently running Firefox 27.0.

You can try to modify the gfx.hidpi.enabled pref on the <b>about:config</b> page (<=0: disable; 1:all screens same res; >1:enable always).
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can set the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the <b>about:config</b> page to 1.0 and if necessary adjust layout.css.devPixelsPerPx starting from 1.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.1 or 0.9) to make icons show correctly.

Use an extension to adjust the text size in the user interface and the page zoom in the browser window.
You can look at this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface.
*Theme Font & Size Changer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/
You can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoScript extension if web pages need to be adjusted after changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx.

  • Some icons disappear when interface font is not set to Tahoma and 10 point

When we try to change the font of the SAP user interface (via the Administration > System Initialization > General Settings > Font & Bkgd dialog), to anything other than Tahoma 10 pt, a number of icons and button artwork disappear from the interface. The icons that disappear include the forward-a-month (ButtonPlay) and backward-a-month (ButtonPlayBack) buttons on the calendar, the "graph" icon that displays next to the Account Balance, Deliveries and Orders fields on the BP Master (ICON*SalesAnalysis), and some of the third-party add-on icons in the Main Menu.
The links/functionality itself is still there in the spot where the icon would be, it is just the artwork/icon that does not show up.
We tried restarting, reinstalling SAP, and various computers, and the issue persists. How do we fix this?
    Thanks, Ted

    Hi Gordon,
    Thanks for responding:
I have tried all of these:
    Tahoma 9, 11, 12, 14, 16
    Arial 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16
    Verdana 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16
    MS Reference Sans Serif 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16
    Arial Unicode MS 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16
Tahoma 10 is the only one that works, showing those icons I mentioned.
    Thanks, Ted

  • After Effects Crashes On Startup (Initializing User Interface)

OK, this is really frustrating me now.
    I've tried CS3, CS4 both on a Late 07, maybe early 08 White Macbook running Leopard 10.5.8, 4GB Ram, 2.1GHz CPU.
I installed CS4 without a hitch, but when I go to open it sticks on "Initializing User Interface" at the splash screen and then crashes and quits. This happens with CS3 as well, and I am unable to open anything.
I've tried to delete user preferences, create a new user and try there, repair disk permissions, connect an external monitor and try again, nothing works!
Any suggestions to get this to work?

I just did this search for the error message, and I found some possible solutions, including in the comments on this page.

  • User interface lags severely on my 2.2GHz mbook pro 3,1

I usually run my laptop just plugged in without battery ever since i had my first battery totally fry on me within 6 months of usage. And i needed to use my computer intensively the last few days so i plugged the battery in reset the computer reset power management controller and started working. Directly after bootup the computer runs fine and fast but shortly after the interface lags greatly. Scrolling in safari becomes painfull, mouse movements not as smooth, and response time to lots of things are ridiculous. Wanted to figure out what was going on. So i downloaded xbench and ran some tests, everything seems normal except for user interface tests.
Directly after boot i would get a score of 130
after some time when i notice it's not working well it drops to 11-15
what could this be? I heard from some other posts it could be skype, i never launched skype still same thing. Activity monitor reports nothing unusual.
Please help. This is ridiculous. I couldn't even use aperture when touching up a photo i took for a billboard ad.

As Allan says, Rani, running without the battery will indeed slow down your processor, which puts it at something of a handicap right from the start.
It sounds as if something else may be adding to this lag, though. You say that Activity Monitor reports nothing unusual. Does this apply to both CPU and RAM usage? When the problem is occurring what sort of CPU percentage is being reported for the most "CPU hungry" processes? What about the "Page ins / page outs" when you look at "System memory"?
How full is your HD? If it is , say, less than about 20% free then it is quite possible that you are suffering from a lot of free space fragmentation. Aperture is one application which can add to fragmentation effects , too.
As far as Aperture goes, have you tried rebuilding the Aperture database files?
How about corrupt or duplicated fonts? It may be that the slowdown is occuring after an attempt to access such an item in one program or another. Check for corrupt or duplicated fonts with Font Book , and get rid of any that it reports.
Have you booted up from your OS DVD and run Disk Utility to "repair disk" recently? If not give it a try. It is not uncommon for some directory corruption to build up over time. Alternatively you could try a "Safe Boot", though it won't directly provide you with as much information as using Disk Utility. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 for a description of various options for directory repair).
You might also want to check your HD with Smart Utility.
    Cheers

  • Why hasn't Adobe navigation and user interface design improved as much as it could have over time?

I haven't tried CS6. I'm sure it's great based on what i've seen alone. But as a user of adobe products for a number of years, i have to noticed there are still a lot of stagnant, awkward, stiff, irriating, slowing down elements found in the navigation and user interface on cs3-cs5, that i'm sure could have been eliminated or improved on at least from 2005 or 2007 onwards. I find some of these things inexcusable and unprogressive from bad traits that defined 1980's and 1990's general computer navigation and so on.
CS5.5 has lessned this a bid bit and is more fluid in bits and pieces but for those using cs3-cs5 and in general, i find some things just horrid. As a graphic designer no one is supposed to admit the flaws or irrations of these programs. We must hail them as god, never critisize, and always adjust to new things which i think is a bit fascististic and silly
The way the tools, options are laid out can be improved to be quicker, and easier to find and use. Using your voice as a commanding system would be helpful as well.
A lot of cmds are too complex to remember, they can be simplier or resemble the name of the tool or option. Its makes a chore to follow this system and competition for the smart *** who memormized all the cmds.
The way in which you loose floating side boxes, and the amount of tools or names hidden in the bars sometimes seem random and its always a constant search to find them incase you forget where they are.
The inability to open cs4 or 5 files in cs3 is just beyond extremly annoying. Whey shouldn't you be able to open cs1 or 2 files or photoshop 9 files  as well? Every five years work expires as well?
The layering system gets tricky and seems that a lot of things don't work when you normally move things. Its about going back, remembering and clicking on this or that, looking it up to make everything work. Sometimes which leaves you in a rut and wastes a good amount of time. You will always find this even after you've been using it for years.
The use of the fill paint/airbrushing, clone tool, lasso tool, pen tool, history being two steps back can be vastly improved to be much better to use
Masking and tools that have more complex features should find a way be automatically done or sampled. They can also have less complex steps and tha ability to be  previewed,  automatic or simpler  ( in case you can't remember how to do something or aren't getting it)
A lot of the special effects, and blending modes are useless, outdated, super-ugly and don't resemble  true darkroom effects ( such as polarization, and bas-relief for example)  which they could much more vividly done. There also could be more options that are closer to repro cameras/CTP software for halftoning and more complex digital effects.
Having to press or get used to pressing muliple keys or clicks for the most basic things simultaneously can be reduced to be easier
Adjusting text, new documents, photos should have a smoother, quicker navigational experince where things a lot of room to be , clicked back, re-done, saved in the wrong place etc..
Indesign could use more shapes, include more features that illustrator has, and possibly even photoshop to save time.
There should be a way to remind you of features, complex things you've forgotten, other than history and daily usage/practice of the programs
The help should resemble more of "visual -learners" guide books with voice features.
    There are a lot more
    Regarding other things:
I think the price encorages more piracy and allows people to not have a concept of what is means to owning software.
The loss of a manual or lessening of them for certain programs is a loss because it's always useful to  physical info you can flip through while looking at your program.
I think adobe should make entirely better products for professionals or people in the industry rather than spoonfeeding the same software to all.
They should also make less expensive add-ons like before for graphic software.
What do you adobe could have improved over time and if so what do you think they could have improved on?

  • PSE User Interface

A year or 2 ago I tried PSE but ended up not using it based on the user interface.  Fonts, icons and elements within the interface were too small for me to see clearly with a native monitor resolution of 1920 x 1080.  At that time there were no options for the user to increase the size of fonts, icons etc. within the GUI.  I do not want to alter my monitor resolution.  Does PSE 9 have any options to increase the size of these screen elements?  I need to abandon my current image editing program (from another company) as it is so unstable.  Thanks.
