User message in the method "executeQueryForCollection"

Hi everyone,
I pray you excuse my english.
I am working in jdev 11.1.2.1.
I have an "adf:inputListOfValues" in a "jsf".
In the search popup, I would display a message to the user if search criteria are not informed.
To achieve this, I implemented the method "executeQueryForCollection" of the "VO" to launch a "JboException".
At run time, the first time I perform a search user, it displays correctly. But, any other action causes an exception of type "nullPointerException".
In the ADF source code, the method "ViewRowSetImpl::execute" calls to "executeQueryForCollection" method. The method "ViewRowSetImpl::execute" catch exceptions and the object instance "queryCollection" is initialized to "null". This fact throws the exceptions of type "NullPointerException".
"catch (Exception e)
setQueryCollection(null);
if (e instanceof JboException)
throw (JboException) e;
else
throw new JboException(e);
I prefer not to add a message of "FacesMessage" type in the data model.
Is there any other way to show this message to the user?
Thank you very much.

Hi,
sandip is correct, go to SE11 Table T100.
I did it this way: Searched for (in my case) SPRSL = DE and TEXT = "Bitte Bankschlüssel eingeben" (that's the said error message). With the upcoming result I got the message ID and message Number, these are:
ARBGB = 'AR' MSGNR = '195'
ARBGR = '1J' MSGNR ='510'
Maintain them for your SPRSL and you should be fine.
regards, Lukas

• Show message while the method is running

Hello,
I'm having a really good problem.
I've a server method, that is taking a good time to run, so i thougth i could show a pop up message to warn the user that the method is running.
But, i can't use it by tag.
Is there a way of showing it by code, ie with and actionListener, or something else?
Thanks!
Fernando.

Try using 'af:poll' component on your page.
You can send events to the server at fixed intervals and then evaluate the status.
You will probably have to do some more logic on the server side to make this work correctly though.
Good luck!

• Get User Messages on the Host PC from WSN Nodes

Hi,
I have read the "LabVIEW Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) Pioneer - Under the Hood" and try to transmit user messages from a WSN node to the host.
However, I am stuck at the WSN Get New Messages VI. I am unable to use a "Display Message to User" function or "Unbundle function" to retrieve the messages from WSN Get New Messages VI. Can anyone help me ? I have been stuck here for hours. Thank you very much !

Hi xinke,
looking at your code, I believe the issu eis that the output of the Get New Message node is an array of clusters and as such should be indexed as with a normal array before being split up with unbundle. i have attached a VI that shows this to my post.
I hope that this helps!

• How to access new data in User Message Event Callback?

I am using the Simple LabVIEW OI as the model for my TestStand user interface.
The sequence sends a User Message to the OI to request the string array of tests to run.
But I am having great difficulty making this string array data available to the event callback VI.
I do not want to use a global variable and so my unsuccessful method so far has been as follows:
1. Use a Refnum to the Array and pass it into the Config Event Callbacks VI via the cluster
2. The "Selected Tests" in the input cluster in the Config Event Callbacks VI is a generic Control Refnum
3. This Selected Tests (at the bottom) is then bundled and passed into the User Parameter
4. But how do I convert the Selected Tests Control refnum back into the original string array in the actual callback?
Also if there is anyone that can suggest a better way of doing this then please let me know.
The bottom line is - how to get the latest data into the event callback function when it is called?
Many thanks,
Ronnie

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi Ray,
The 'Selected Tests' array refnum is #4 in the cluster order and matches all the way through - so I think that's OK.
In the final diagram above, I can get the Selected Tests cluster from the 'User Parameter', but it is still in the form of a refnum.
My problem is a lack of understanding in how to convert this 'Selected Tests' refnum back to the original data type (a string array).
Basically I want to get the string array from the 'Selected Tests' refnum.
As you can see from above I tried to use a property node. I've also tried to 'cast' the refnum to a 'more specific class' by choosing 'Array' but it's still ends up as a refnum.
I hope you see what I mean?
Thanks,
Ronnie

• Information message in the workflow

Hi Experts,
We are using an Information message ...message of type I inside a method in the leave request workflow.
message i001(ztest1) with lv_pernr where ztest1 is teh message class.
We are using this after a User Decision step....when the user clicks on the successful button, a messaage should just pop up telling him to run the RPTARQPOST program.
When we executed and tested the same, it is not working.
I just wanted to know whether we can put an Information Message inside the method and can this be used in the workflow.
Is there something that we have missed out.
Awaiting your response,
Cheers,
Belinda Clarke

Hi,,
If you test your code directly in SE24 does it work? If not, then it will not work in workflow either. If yes, then you probably need to set the advance with dialog checkbox in your user decision step (in SWDD).
In general I would stay that your solution is not the most elegant one. I would consider any another solution than putting an information message into a (separate?) step in workflow? Can you just instruct the users to execute the report? Can you write the message to the user decision directly. Can you launch the report directly in the step (instead of asking the user to run it). There are multiple better ways to do this, if you just told what you want to achieve or what the users need to do.

• Exceptions vs user messages

There is a thing in connection to exception handling in GUI applications that I have been thinking on at some times: Where/how to produce user messages for exceptions that may occur somewhere in the business logic?
The best guidelines I have read about how to use exceptions in a reasonable way is the chapter about exceptions in the book Effective Java Programming Language Guide. An excellent book for people that like to write high quality code! Some advices state that exceptions should be used for exceptional things that we have to expect and that they should contain information that helps doing debug. And that we should use runtime exceptions for programming errors. This is good! This was a help for me to not hate exceptions as I did before : ) but instead use them to create robust code. But what I not yet understand is where the user messages fit in to this? Or have I not yet found a design for it that I like enough yet. With user messages do I think on clear messages to display to the user, not the type of messages in exceptions that is for developers to support debug.
If for example a FileNotFoundException is thrown somewhere down in my business logic, an error we must expect because the user may have deleted the file since the last time we used it, where and how do I then produce the exception to be displayed in the GUI?
Some possible answers ...
Wrap the exception in a new MyUserException that is used for all exceptional situations that should result in a user message with the user message as the detail message for the exception? I dont like it. I want specific exceptions for specific error situations and it looks more right to decide whether an exception should be displayed to the user or not in a higher level close to the GUI.
Put an error code in a MyErrorCodeException and use that for all exception handling. The error code do I then use to pick a localized message from some table. I dont like to have my own exception hierarchy either. Often are there already a useful exception in the Java API and error codes adds clutter.
So what should I do with my FileNotFoundException? Just let it pass through all the way up until I can use the failure information in it to compose a user message? This is what I feel most "right" but it is not always that simple as with a exception that so clearly tell what have happened as "FileNotFound"Exception does.
I want to define my user messages in a properties file and access them from a resource bundle to be able to localize them. But where and how should I map them to thrown exceptions? It would interesting to listen on opions from others about this!

This is in line with the guidelines in the excellent book Effective Java Programming Language Guide. Errors you must expect, for example that a user could have deleted the file your business logic is going to read from, should it be announced using checked exceptions. You can't always assume that the file is there in your code. But errors that you could avoid using code should be avoided and if you not follow the rules should a runtime exception be thrown.
No.
There is a difference between an exception and a normal process flow. The fact that an expected flow results in you telling the user that something is wrong doesn't make it an exception.
For example if you are playing a game and your space ship blows up because you overheated the engines then that is not an exception. You programmed the game such that the engines overheating was an expected condition.
So, again, in your application there are two possibilities when you say that the user deleted the file.
1. You expect the user to delete the file. Maybe because there is a delete button on a dialog somewhere.
2. You don't expect the user to delete the file. Just like you don't expect them to delete your jar file.
The first case is expected behavior. The second isn't.
They are different so you treat them differently.
>>
I want to define my user messages in a properties file and access them from a resource bundle to be able to localize them.That doesn't sound like exceptions to me.The message in exceptions is meant for developers that are tracking what have happened. In the business logic do you not know from where your code is called. Otherwise is it less reusable. But exceptions that have popped up all the way to the user view should be displayed with a message, preferably a localized message, that is understandable for a user that probably not is a developer. And that message is therefore preferably defined in a resource bundle.Definitely not.
The developers at my company do not speak nor read japanese. So it absolutely pointless to have artifacts that developers must deal with in other languages.
Conversely when the user incorrectly types their password/user name into the system then the message that pops up must be readable by the users. And the developers should never need to see that because they expect that behavior.
User messages must originate from known sources. Otherwise you have no possibility of translating it in a usable way and in all likelyhood it won't be useable in the original language either.
>
The big question is how to map the defined user messages to thrown (checked) exceptions? A problem is that exceptions seldom contains failure capture information. To create a good user message do I for example need to know which file the user tried to open to be able to notify that it was some problem with that file to let the user have a chance to fix the problem.The big problem is coming up with a consistent normal, error and exception system and recognizing that although developers must deal with and understand all three that users should only be expected to deal with the first two themselves and need not know anymore about the third except how to report it.
There are any number of variations on the doing this. But again consistency, not methodology, is the real key.

• How to view Output Messages in the LabWindows UI?

In my LabWindows/CVI I would like to view the output messages that are sent from sequences:
"RunState.Engine.NewOutputMessage(Parameters.Message).Post()"
I thought there might be a TS UI Control like the one in the sequence editor called Output - but I can't find one.
So far I have managed to catch the message type (TS_UIMsg_OutputMessages) but I can't actually get the string from the event.
Does anyone have an example of doing this?
Thanks,
Ronnie
TestStand 4.2.1, LabVIEW 2009, LabWindows/CVI 2009

Ok, let me see if I can explain how to do it more clearly then.
1) Create a new OutputMessages collection using TS_EngineNewOutputMessages(). This collection will store your own private copy of the output messages. You can hold onto and add to this collection if you want to store them. If not you can just close the handle to free it once you are done with it.
2) When you get the UIMessage you need to get the ActiveXData property of it. I think the CVI function should be called something like TS_UIMessageGetActiveXData(). The CAObjHandle you get back from this function is a different OutputMessages object that you should NOT hold onto (because of multithreading reasons), you should instead close the handle before returning back from your UIMessage handler. Before doing that though, you should use the TS_OutputMessagesCopyMessagesToCollection method to copy the messages from this OutputMessages object to the new one you created in step 1) above (i.e. you are making your own private copy of the messages and leaving the ones in the UIMessage unchanged (again, it is for multithreading reasons that it must be done this way to avoid race conditions).
3) You now have a copy of the output messages from the event in your own private OutputMessages collection that you created in step 1) above. You can now access it to get the info for the output messages. You can get the number of items it contains (and it might contain more than one), by using the TS_OutputMessagesGetItem() function and using CA_VariantInt(index) to package the integer that you pass for the index parameter.
4) Getting the item gives you an OutputMessage object (notice no plural). You can get information about the output message using the methods and properties of the OutputMessage class (see the online help for more info). There is more to an output message than just the message text. There is also a timestamp, category, location, icon, id, severity, color, etc.
If you need more information please let us know specifically what you are having trouble with or need more information about.
Hope this helps,
-Doug

• Chat user is not getting message from the other users

In my application when user [A] initiate the chat with user[B] , I am facing following issues
- User[B] is not getting initiation notification so that I am unable to open chat pod for user [A] on user[B] application
- Due to above problem , User[B] not getting any message sent by the User[A]

following is sample code

_collectionNode.connectSession =

new NodeConfiguration(UserRoles.VIEWER, UserRoles.VIEWER, true, false, true,false, NodeConfiguration.STORAGE_SCHEME_QUEUE));}
public function connectChat() :void{

break;}
/*** Publishes a request for someone to join a chat
public function publishChatRequest(notificationEvent : NotificationEvent) :void {
if( this.connectSession.userManager.getUserDescriptor( notificationEvent.userID ) ){
var openChatEvent:OpenChatEvent = new OpenChatEvent( OpenChatEvent.PUBLISH_CHAT,null,notificationEvent.sharedID, notificationEvent.userNotificationList, null, notificationEvent.userID );
if( this.presenceUsers )openChatEvent.descriptors =
this.presenceUsers; _collectionNode.publishItem(
new MessageItem( START_CHAT_LIST, openChatEvent, openChatEvent.roomId ) );}
else{
Alert.show(
"User "+ notificationEvent.userID + " is not logged in.", "Publish Error" );}

A) are these methods copied twice in the code here on purpose?
connectChat() and onSynchronizationChange is repeated in code due copy paste mistake
B) are both users subscribing to _collectionNode right away? Do each of them
get to onSynchronizationChange?
Yes , each of them get to onSynchronizationChange
C) If you put a breakpoint in onSynchronizationChange, do you see the node
get created? Do you see it in the dev console?
Yes , it is creating a node
D) Is user B receiving an onItemReceive at all? Is user A?
Yes , it is creating a node
Now both the user getting chat message, have following issue
When user A initiate the chat with user B this action is not opening chat pod / window on user B end which shows user A has initiated chat with user B
But when user B click on user A name to initiate the chat, this action opens a chat window and user B can see message send by user A
Above scenario is not normal chat behavior in which other user gets the notification of chat . what could be the problem

• How to give a message in the UI page if there is an error in AppImpl method

How to give an error message in the jsf page if the AppImpl method fails ?
Use case : I have a create form and a submit button which binds with a client interface method in Application Impl class. If the method fails due to some exception , how can I notify the users with proper error message ?

Hi,
As the previous reply (casting the result) is the best solution here (separating model and view logic) but sometimes we do a shortcut.
may be it is not the best approach but it comes handy most of the time, this approach is also error-proven. we used it more than 2 years in large applications.
add the following code whenever you want to add message in UI be aware that we have add it in a jar and add that library to the model projects
FacesContext ctx = getFacesContext();
FacesMessage fm = new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR, msg, "");
ctx.addMessage(null, fm);
you just need to add jsf library to the model applications and replace msg with your message.
regarding throw jboException, it seems good most of the time but sometimes when you are in middle of the transaction it somehow ruin the flow of the transactions.
Regards.

• How to check if the user has only the display authority of a message

hi,
How to check if the user has only the display authority of a message but does not have the change authority for a certain message?
Best regards,

hi blake
though i am an application consultant and for authorisation u need to have help of BASIS person if u r not the one but still i can guide u regarding the same,
Basically Authorization Management
Use
You can use the following authorization objects to control the authorizations for maintaining business partner data:
• Authorization objects for the Business Partner:
•             B_BUPA_GRP
•             B_BUPA_ATT
•             B_BUPA_FDG
•             B_BUPA_RLT•
Authorization objects for relationships:
•             B_BUPR_BZT
•             B_BUPR_FDG
In addition, you can assign an authorization group to a business partner in the dialog. The authorization group controls which users may maintain data for this business partner.
You can also define authorizations for fields and field groups using the Business Data Toolset (BDT). Depending on the settings you have made, the system carries out the relevant authorization checks.
In the dialog in the SAP GUI, you can display an overview of the authorizations assigned to you by pressing the button Settings.
For more information on authorization management, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) of the Business Partner, as well as in the Developer’s Handbook for the BDT under Authorizations.
IntegrationAuthorization management for the Business Partner forms part of the SAP authorization concept.
Prerequisites
You have made the necessary settings in Customizing of the Business Partner under Basic Settings--> -Address Management.
Moving over
AS ABAP Authorization Concept
The ABAP authorization concept protects transactions, programs, and services in SAP systems from unauthorized access. On the basis of the authorization concept, the administrator assigns authorizations to the users that determine which actions a user can execute in the SAP system, after he or she has logged on to the system and authenticated himself or herself.
To access business objects or execute SAP transactions, a user requires corresponding authorizations, as business objects or transactions are protected by authorization objects. The authorizations represent instances of generic authorization objects and are defined depending on the activity and responsibilities of the employee. The authorizations are combined in an authorization profile that is associated with a role. The user administrators then assign the corresponding roles using the user master record, so that the user can use the appropriate transactions for his or her tasks.
Authorization Checks
To ensure that a user has the appropriate authorizations when he or she performs an action, users are subject to authorization checks.
The following actions are subject to authorization checks that are performed before the start of a program or table maintenance and which the SAP applications cannot avoid:
• Starting SAP transactions (authorization object S_TCODE)
• Starting reports (authorization object S_PROGRAM)
• Calling RFC function modules (authorization object S_RFC)
• Table maintenance with generic tools (S_TABU_DIS)
Checking at Program Level with AUTHORITY-CHECK
Applications use the ABAP statement AUTHORITY-CHECK, which is inserted in the source code of the program, to check whether users have the appropriate authorization and whether these authorizations are suitably defined; that is, whether the user administrator has assigned the values required for the fields by the programmer. In this way, you can also protect transactions that are called indirectly by other programs.
AUTHORITY-CHECK searches profiles specified in the user master record to see whether the user has authorization for the authorization object specified in the AUTHORITY-CHECK. If one of the authorizations found matches the required values, the check is successful.
Starting SAP Transactions
When a user starts a transaction, the system performs the following checks:
• The system checks in table TSTC whether the transaction code is valid and whether the system administrator has locked the transaction.
• The system then checks whether the user has authorization to start the transaction.
The SAP system performs the authorization checks every time a user starts a transaction from the menu or by entering a command. Indirectly called transactions are not included in this authorization check. For more complex transactions, which call other transactions, there are additional authorization checks.
•  The authorization object S_TCODE (transaction start) contains the field TCD (transaction code). The user must have an authorization with a value for the selected transaction code.
•  If an additional authorization is entered using transaction SE93 for the transaction to be started, the user also requires the suitable defined authorization object (TSTA, table TSTCA).
If you create a transaction in transaction SE93, you can assign an additional authorization to this transaction. This is useful, if you want to be able to protect a transaction with a separate authorization. If this is not the case, you should consider using other methods to protect the transaction (such as AUTHORITY-CHECK at program level).
• The system checks whether the transaction code is assigned an authorization object. If so, a check is made that the user has authorization for this authorization object.
The check is not performed in the following cases:
You have deactivated the check of the authorization objects for the transaction (with transaction SU24) using check indicators, that is, you have removed an authorization object entered using transaction SE93. You cannot deactivate the check for objects from the SAP NetWeaver and HR areas.
This can be useful, as a large number of authorization objects are often checked when transactions are executed, since the transaction calls other work areas in the background. In order for these checks to be executed successfully, the user in question must have the appropriate authorizations. This results in some users having more authorization than they strictly need. It also leads to an increased maintenance workload. You can therefore deactivate authorization checks of this type in a targeted manner using transaction SU24.
•  You have globally deactivated authorization objects for all transactions with transaction SU24 or transaction SU25.
•  So that the entries that you have made with transactions SU24 and SU25 become effective, you must set the profile parameter AUTH/NO_CHECK_IN_SOME_CASES to “Y” (using transaction RZ10).
All of the above checks must be successful so that the user can start the transaction. Otherwise, the transaction is not called and the system displays an appropriate message.
Starting Report Classes
You can perform additional authorization checks by assigning reports to authorization classes (using report RSCSAUTH). You can, for example, assign all PA* reports to an authorization class for PA (such as PAxxx). If a user wants to start a PA report, he or she requires the appropriate authorization to execute reports in this class.
We do not deliver any predefined report classes. You must decide yourself which reports you want to protect in this way. You can also enter the authorization classes for reports with the maintenance functions for report trees. This method provides a hierarchical approach for assigning authorizations for reports. You can, for example, assign an authorization class to a report node, meaning that all reports at this node automatically belong to this class. This means that you have a more transparent overview of the authorization classes to which the various reports are transported.
You must consider the following:
• • After you have assigned reports to authorization classes or have changed assignments, you may have to adjust objects in your authorization concept (such as roles (activity groups), profiles, or user master records).
• • There are certain system reports that you cannot assign to any authorization class. These include:
•     •         RSRZLLG0
•     •         STARTMEN (as of SAP R/3 4.0)
• • Reports that are called using SUBMIT in a customer exit at logon (such as SUSR0001, ZXUSRU01).
• • Authorization assignments for reports are overwritten during an upgrade. After an upgrade, you must therefore restore your customer-specific report authorizations.
Calling RFC Function Modules
When RFC function modules are called by an RFC client program or another system, an authorization check is performed for the authorization object S_RFC in the called system. This check uses the name of the function group to which the function module belongs. You can deactivate this check with parameter auth/rfc_authority_check.
Checking Assignment of Authorization Groups to Tables
You can also assign authorization groups to tables to avoid users accessing tables using general access tools (such as transaction SE16). A user requires not only authorization to execute the tool, but must also have authorization to be permitted to access tables with the relevant group assignments. For this case, we deliver tables with predefined assignments to authorization groups. The assignments are defined in table TDDAT; the checked authorization object is S_TABU_DIS.
You can assign a table to authorization group Z000. (Use transaction SM30 for table TDDAT) A user that wants to access this table must have authorization object S_TABU_DIS in his or her profile with the value Z000 in the field DICBERCLS (authorization group for ABAP Dictionary objects).

• What are the operations we can do on incoming message in execute() method of pipeline component?

Hi,
Actually I am new to BizTalk and not getting idea about how to process message in execute method?
Thanks in advance

Hi Rocky,
You can have any kind of processing done (logic applied) on the incoming message and produce output message and only restriction is implementation of the interfaces.
As you are new to BizTalk, I suggest to go through following articles for better understanding and insight:

• How to stop the users from saving the PO when there is error message

Hi Guru,
The error message had appeared but the user still can choose to hold the PO even though there is an error.
They do not want to let the user to have a choice to save the PO once there is an error.
Please advice where i can out this checking in.

Dear Sally,
As per OSS: Note 606728 - Hold Functionality of the PR & PO - Gaps.
The only way you can stop the hold functionality is by implementing the BADI: ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST.
I am copying the OSS text for your reference.
Summary
Symptom
It is possible in the system to create/hold a purchase order (PO) referencing a held purchase requisition (PR), but your business process requires that this not be possible in your installation.
Other terms
Hold, ME21N, ME52N, Parking, Save without Check, Held PR, PO referencing a held PR, Commitments, reduction of PR by a held PO
Reason and Prerequisites
Cause: The functionality is not provided in EA-PS 110.
Prerequisites : You must be on EA-PS 110 to implement this note
Solution
You can implement some customer BAdI's provided by SAP to get this functionality. Note that customer implementations of the BAdI's provided by SAP are upwardly compatible. The text that follows gives details of how to implement the customer BAdI's to accomplish this functionality.
This functionality might be provided in future releases. However, we cannot make any binding statements at this time in regard to the scope of this development and when it will become available.
The following are the steps required to implement the customer BAdI to give an error message when a user tries to create a PO referencing a held PR.
1. Go to transaction SE18. Enter the definition name as ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST. Select the push button display.
a) Choose Implementation -> Create.
b) Enter an implementation name. Choose Enter.
c) Enter a short text to describe the purpose of the implementation, then save the implementation.
d) Select the tab interface, then double-click the method "process_item".
e) Create a message to issue a message that the PR is on hold.
f) Enter the following code in the method:
DATA: LS_MEPOITEM TYPE MEPOITEM.
DATA : MEMORY     TYPE EBAN-MEMORY.
get current data from business object
LS_MEPOITEM = IM_ITEM->GET_DATA( ).
Check if the PO references a PR and check if the PR is not on hold
If the PR is on hold give an error message
IF NOT LS_MEPOITEM-BANFN IS INITIAL.
SELECT SINGLE MEMORY INTO MEMORY
FROM EBAN WHERE BANFN = LS_MEPOITEM-BANFN
AND BNFPO = LS_MEPOITEM-BNFPO.
IF MEMORY = 'X'.
MESSAGE E900(ZM). "The message that you have created in step 6
ENDIF.
ENDIF.
g) Activate the implementation.
2. If you do not want to let the user put the PO referencing a held PR on hold, you have to also implement the BAdI ME_HOLD_PO. The following are the steps to implement the BAdI.
a) Go to transaction SE18.Enter the definition name as ME_HOLD_PO and click on the 'DISPLAY' button.
b) Go to Implementation -> Create.
c) Enter an implementation name, then choose Enter.
d) Give some short text to describe the purpose of the implementation, then save the implementation.
e) Select the tab interface. Double-click the method IS_ALLOWED.
f) Enter the following code in the method:
DATA : IM_BEKPO_WA TYPE BEKPO.
DATA : MEMORY TYPE EBAN-MEMORY.
*-Look if the PO refers to a Held PR
LOOP AT IM_BEKPO INTO IM_BEKPO_WA
WHERE NOT BANFN IS INITIAL.
SELECT SINGLE MEMORY INTO MEMORY
FROM EBAN WHERE BANFN = IM_BEKPO_WA-BANFN
AND BNFPO = IM_BEKPO_WA-BNFPO.
IF MEMORY = 'X'.
*-Do not allow the PO to be kept on hold
*-if the PO is refering a held PR
CH_ALLOWED = ' '.

• Is the method not only search messages but also paging messages by javamail imap.

I can use SearchTerm and FlagTerm to search messages in ImapFolder.
And I can use follow code to sort messages.
Message[] messages = userFolder.getMessages();
Arrays.sort(messages, new Comparator<Message>()
public int compare(Message message1, Message message2)
int returnValue = 0;
try
if (sortCriteria == SORT_SENT_DATE)
returnValue = message1.getSentDate().compareTo(message2.getSentDate());
} catch (Exception e)
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
e.printStackTrace();
if (sortType == SORT_TYPE_DESCENDING)
returnValue = -returnValue;
return returnValue;
Actually This solution is working fine, but it fails in logic for paging Being a Web based application, i cant expect server to load all messages for every user and sort them (We do have situations >1000 Simultaneous users with mail boxes having > 1000 messages each )
It also does not make sense for the web server to load all, sort them, return just a small part (say 1-20), and on the next request, again load all sort them and return (21-40). Caching possible, but whts the gaurantee user would actually make a request ?
I need a solution that could also work in Search operation (searching with paging), I have built an archietecture to create a SearchTerm but here too i would require paging.

If your mail server supports the IMAP SORT extension, you can use the IMAPFolder.getSortedMessages method to get the list of messages in sorted order. They you only need to fetch the data for the messages in the current page.
If your server doesn't support SORT, you'll need to do what you're currently doing, and use the fetch method to prefetch the data you'll need for the comparison.
Either way, you'll almost certainly want to cache some information in the session to provide consistency from page to page. You only need to update the sort if messages are added or deleted.

• How do I use a MyVerizon ringtone I received in the form of a txt message? The long touch method on the media does not work, btw.

I purchased a ringtone on My Verizon via my computer. They sent me txt message with the media but I can't figure out how to save it as a ringtone. The long touch method doesn't work. It's not anywhere in my media files, and frankly I just joined verizon but they have proven a bit difficult. On thin ice already, this isn't helping.

Have you managed to save it to your phone? If so, download a file explorer app (like Estrongs file explorer) from the Play Store. Open up the file explorer app and navigate to the "Download" folder. Scroll through your downloads to locate the ringtone file. Select it and use the file explorer's copy or cut function to put the ringtone file in the clipboard. Back out of the "download" folder to the "sdcard" level. Then look for a "ringtones" folder. Select it to open it and view the contents. Using the file explorer, paste the ringtone file to that folder. Back out of the file explorer app. The ringtone will now be available in the "phone ringtone" selection list.
