User share folder not passing permissions to subfolders

I set up sharing properly best as I can tell between two user accounts on my iMac, however, sharing permissions do not pass to the subfolders I put into the user share folder. Do I have to assign permissions to every folder individually? This can't be right??

OK, I found the the small gear icon at the bottom of the "Get Info" window. Unlock the Get Info window, click the gear icon and select "apply to enclosed items". Permissions work OK now. This little setting was not easy to find.

  • GPO to push HKCU regkeys to users that do not have permissions to write to the registry?

We run a 2008r2 domain and mostly Win7 clients, but some are still XP.  I need to apply some application settings in an admin template(user), and also need to push a regkey to HkeyCurrentUser for those users.  I would like to use GPP for the
regkey, if possible, but the end-users do not have permissions to edit the registry on their computers.  Is this something that would have to be scripted? or can I do this through group policy?
I was thinking that the computer side of Group Policy ran under the System account, but that user side ran under the user's security context?  This is probably an easy one, but any ideas would be appreciated.

Even though users are not admins, some parts of the registry are open for editing. The easiest way to determine if thats the case, is to actually try changing the value when you're logged on to a client as non-admin.
Note that according to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2252421, a possibility would also be to change the value as following (that can sometimes help when using both policies and GPP's)
How to deploy the junk email list trigger to the non-policy location in the registry
You can also configure the junk email list trigger in the following non-policy location in the registry:
    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\1x.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    DWORD: JunkMailImportLists
    Value: 1
    Note The 1x.0 placeholder represents your version of Outlook (11.0 = Outlook 2003, 12.0 = Outlook 2007, 14.0 = Outlook 2010, and 15.0 = Outlook 2013)."

  • I'm trying to share folder between users on a single mac.  I put the folder in "shared," set permissions so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.  Any help?

I'm trying to share a folder between users on a single mac.  I want both users to be able to read and write so the folder stays current on both accounts.  I put the folder in "shared," set permissions on folder so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.  Any help?

Did you log out of one account and into the other or just used Fast user switching?
Is the permissions set to anyone?
When you move data to teh Shared folder is it copied or just moved?
If copied then it's not a folder both can access, just a way station like a USB thumb drive that things are coped too and off of likely.
You can run this #5 on each user account to reset the user permissions once they are taken back out of the Shared folder

  • File server 2008 R2 Multiple share folder , single user show only single folder , not show any other folder

I've installed windows 2008 standard r2 server. 2. Configured a domain. 3. Joined 10 clients to the server. 4. Created shared folders on the sever restricting to users. (ex.USERNAME:system01 can access a shared folder:system01 only) 5. I need to give the
below permissions only. Please let me know the permission combination. Read / write / modify - allow access Delete / cut and copy from server - deny access Basically elaborating  the current scenario. 1.Server has multiple shared folders where the users
are asked to put in their data
host name :system01 user logging in:system01 shared folder for the user in server:system01 so is for others also. 2.Example ,system01,system02,system03. Only user 'system01'
will be able to access 'system01' shared folder so is others too. System01 show only single share folder at system 3.Basically to avoid all kind of confusion I have named host name of systems also the same way.

    Hi,
When you grant users "read" permission, then copying is possible and if you grant users "modify" permissions, they can also have "cut" permissions.
The 'system01' share folder is created by user 'system01'? If so, you could grant "creator owner" permissions to configure users only can access their own folder.

  • BPC Detail error/reject log not created in the PrivatePub/user/temp folder

    Hi,
We have a custom import package that imports data from a comma seperated txt file in to BPC. If all the data members in the data file are valid dimension members the package is successful and the package log file is created in the PrivatePub/user/Temp folder. But if there are any rejects the reject log is not getting created under the temp folder and moreover the package status is "Error". The package log is created but the reject log is not. The Webfolders has the full share permissions.
The same package runs fine in our Test environment and creates the package log and reject log.
We are on BPC 5.1 SP3.
Is there a configuration that is missing.
    Thanks in advance.
    Swaroop

I'm pretty sure that when you do not explicitly indicate a transformation file, a default file (import.xls I think?) is used.
Also, there are a number of temp files & variables that must be created in the MODIFYSCRIPT variable, and certain conversion tasks that are part of the standard import process. You can see the proper syntax in the sample import pacakges.
If you've created a new package of your own, you may be missing some key pieces. If you don't understand what all the pieces are in the sample packages (and why you don't need them), you should start by debugging with one of them, and then see what you need to add back into your package.
I'd normally recommend to start with the sample import package, and only modify it if necessary, and as little as possible.
Last thought - file permission... does the user running the package (not the end user logged into BPC, but the BPC data manager user, which I believe is the "USER" (not admin or sysadmin) set up during the server install) have appropriate access rights to that network share where the data file is located? Try changing it to a local path, and copy the test.txt to that location.

  • New account not picking up template from "User Template" folder.

With past OS'es I've successfully managed to create a new "Staff" account on my main staff image-maker Mac, drag and copy all of that account's folders into: System>Library>User Template>English.lproj
This is very helpful when a staff member leaves, I can simply create a new account, and the Mac would/should pick up all the settings and items found within the English.lproj folder in order to complete the creation of a new "Staff" account.
This is not working for me in Snow Leopard for some reason. I'm assuming it's a rights issue on either the User Template folder or the English.lproj folder...or both.
Problem: The original "Staff" account and all new "Staff" accounts pick up a generic set of folders for that account, even though my self-created account folders are still located in the English.lproj folder mentioned above.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, Gramps.

Can you share which permissions you ended up looking at? I'm having the same issue. I'm doing exactly what I've always done but for some reason 10.6 is giving me grief.

  • How to set NTFS and share permissions for Users share for home directories in Server 2012

I have a new Server 2012 server, and I want to set up a Users share, that will contain subfolders of each user's username and contain their home directory.  But what do I set the share and NTFS permissions as on the root level, lets call the folder
Users? Is the following older article the correct permissions I need?
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/274443

    Hi RJO22,
You can choose configure the Folder Redirection, Folder Redirection enables you to redirect the location of specific folders within user profiles to a new location, such as
a shared network location. Folder redirection is used in the process of administering user profiles and roaming user profiles. You can configure Folder Redirection using the Group Policy Management Console to redirect specific user profile folders, as well
as edit Folder Redirection policy settings.

  • How do I share ONLY my Public Folder, not my entire Hard Drive?

Hi, I'm trying to set up my home wireless network to share files between my two Macs- a Macbook and a Macbook Pro. Instead of allowing access to just the public folder, you can see the entire contents of each hard drive with no restrictions. So much for privacy! I'm new to Macs and I'm sure it's just some simple setting tat I'm overlooking. I had Appleshare turned on but I've since turned it off without making a difference. Can I go through each individual folder and set sharing priviledges like on a PC? Thanks in advance!

Since you are logging on to another computer as a registered user, you have access to whatever a registered user is entitled to. That is to be expected. I don't see how it is a problem. What privacy issue are you talking about when you are logging in as yourself? Furthermore, no one can access what you can when logged in as yourself if they do not know the correct username/password. There is no issue here.
But, if you want to use a Mac like a Windows machine, You can create a folder in the home directory of each computer where you log in as Guest and have Read/Write privileges. I'd create such a folder inside your Public Folder, and set its special permissions, and I would not change permissions on any other folders as that could cause security and general use issues with applications.
I think you can set Group to nobody(others can offer better suggestions here) and give Group Read/Write permissions. Then, you can use that folder to share files like with a windows machine, but it makes no sense to me.
My real suggestion is to understand how the Mac works, and it is very secure, and not use it like Windows.

  • Newly scanned documents not inheriting permissions from containing folder

I have four Pcs that all see each other on a local network.  I just bought a new Xerox scanner and my goal is to scan
documents from it into one of the PCs into a shared directory so that all 4 PCs will then have access to these scanned
documents.  The host PC is running Vista. The problem I'm having is that the newly scanned documents are not visible or
accessible to the other three PCs.  The shared directory and any existing files in the directory are accessible.  I have
included Everyone with Full Control in the permissions for the folder, and set it to give these permissions to all files
and subfolders.  However, when a new files is scanned in and created, I see that Everyone is not listed there in the
permissions of the file. I can unshare and reshare the containing folder and then Everyone does appear in the permissions
list, but that really is inconvenient to have to do that every time I scan a new file in.  I also can copy the new file to
another folder and then back into the shared folder and the Everyone user will be in the permissions list.
But can someone please tell me why the newly scanned document just doesn't inherit the exact permissions of the containing
folder in the first place???  And yes I have tried everyone option there is under the sharing and Security tabs and their
advanced and customized options for the containing folder and nothing seems to work.

I have had the same problem on an office network.  I host the shared directory from my machine and provide user accounts on my machine that employees use to login to the shared folder and grab newly scanned documents.  Each of their accounts are set as administrator to give max permissions to the files.  My problem was that the new scanned files (PDF) were not inherenting the permissions of the parent directory.  I tried everything I could to resolve the issue and then found this thread.  Here's how I'm currently handling this problem:
I created a batch file like this:
    :TOP
    @echo off
    icacls c:\tempworks /inheritance:e
    PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 60000 >NUL
    GOTO TOP
The ping command forces a 60sec pause in the script.
The directory you are having problems with needs to be the directory on line 3...
Throw that batch file on the desktop and let it run.  It requires virtually no system resources to operate and sends a forced inheritance command to the directory every minute to tell it to make any new files visable in the directory to all users.
I know it's a Jimmy Rig solution, but it works flawlessly and any more time spent on this issue probably would have made me go insane.

  • Is it possible to have many users share the same account folder in HD Users?

    Hi!
    New guy here.
I'm trying to set up somekind of Schedule for me to be able to use my mac only in the morning and only in the evening.
Parental control seems to be able to allow me to do that if i set up two different accounts and assign time limits and schedules for each one. But the problem is that i need to run some programs on both accounts and keeping the same settings throughout both accounts. Is like if i wanted to have one single account but split in two different users.
Any help on this? Thanks in advance!

You have two accounts and you can enable fast user switching to quickly switch between active accounts.
Any program installed in the Applications folder is global, so either user can open the same program into memory (I think, haven't been confirmed, don't see why not) as it just copies it into memory.
However the users setting for each program is placed in the users account folder. Say for instance the programs preferences.
You can't run two instances of the program at the same time, nor will they continue running when you switch out of a user account, it just keeps it in memory.
The Users/Shared folder is just that, it's global file holding account to share when switching between user accounts, however if the file is already open on one user, it's not going to open for the other.
If you want to pernamently drop files into antother user account, you use the Public > Dropbox and it's one way like a mailbox, stick it in and only the other account can access it.
    Hope this assists.
Would help to know why, perhaps there is a better solution.

  • How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory?

    Hello guys
I'd like to know How to prevent users from creating new folders in share folder directory but still keep their power of creating new folders in their personal 'my folder'?
I tried changing the 'manage privilage ---- create folder' to deny certain user accounts, but by doing so, it also stops the user from creating new folders in their 'my folder', which is not good..
I also tried going into these share folders and tried different access types such as 'change/delete', 'read', 'traverse folder' etc, but none of it work ideally. The 'change/delete' access still allows them to create new folders, 'read' access prevents creating new folders but also take away their power of saving reports..
Any thoughts on how to take away their ability to ONLY create new folders in share folder areas without affecting their other privileges?
    Please advise
    Thank you

Easy, on the shared folders root folder only give them 'read' or 'traverse folder' but on the the folder inside the shared folders root folder give them 'change/delete'. That means they can change anything inside those folders but not create any folders at the shared folders root level.

  • Sharing and Permissions for Admin Users Home Folder

Staff user group deleted from Admin User home folder.  User groups listed are the user as read/write, admin as read and everyone as read.  If you create a new Admin user the group "staff" is listed instead of "admin"????  How do i get it back to how it was?  It also seems to be effecting stored passwords in my keychain and other apps.

Hi, i think it depends who are you serving for, if you are just serving for a small office or home server or a big organization. The following quick thinking just came to me:
I think cups set automatically a system  user of its own, and runs as it, so no trouble there. Cups also has the option to set users and it uses the system users as default, i think it depends in in how many printers/users your have in your server.Users that can manage cups are in the lp group.
For nfs every user should have their home, samba is also a good option if you have  windows computer in your network and it integrates better with graphical file  managers like nautilus in the clients side, but it is a hassle to configure.
You should run the web server (owncloud ) as it own user, maybe you can manage to set something up for owncloud in the filesystem, but owncloud uses a database, and the users for owncloud are stored in there, and they are not system users.
You can configure ssh for local use only enabling the corresponding subnets in your /etc/sshd.conf and optionally but recommended you can set a firewall and permissions. You can use iptables but i prefer ufw for simple setup.
I think you should read the wiki:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/users_and_groups
and the other respective topics in the wiki.
Also as an advice i know that arch linux is a great distribution, but you have to do more work to mantain a stable server. I would recommend debian or another more conservative distro, but of course it is your choice.

  • After Exchange 2010 SP3 upgrade, UAG publised OWA is throwing a "You do not have permissions to view this folder or page" error

    Hi,
We have an issue with our OWA page.  We are currently publishing OWA via UAG.
We recently upgraded to Exchange 2010 SP3 and then SP3 Rollup7.  Since the upgrade, we are keep getting the following error after entering our credentials on the login page.  I've tried with every possible browser.
You do not have permissions to view this folder or page
Strangely enough, the mobile phones are sending and receiving emails just fine, the phones use the same OWA link, so it's not an authentication issue, the phones login into the UAG servers with no issues.  I can see this on the Active Sessions screen
    on Web Monitor.
I've attempted to connect to the OWA by bypassing the UAG server, so putting in the local OWA address of one of my Exchange servers, it works... so the OWA page is up and running.
No error logs get generated on Web Monitor when we receive the permission error, I think this is because it's past authentication, it's on the Exchange layer.
Any insight would be helpful?  I'm assuming something changed on the Exchange side after the upgrade.
Just in case, I've upgraded the UAG and TMG servers to the latest SP and Rollup packets.
    UAG > SP4
    TMG > SP2 Rollup 5

I've found a solution; UAG requires Basic Authentication over OWA.  For some reason Integrated Windows Authentication got turned on after the SP3 upgrade.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee921443.aspx
Turning Integrated Windows Authentication off via the Client Access OWA settings resolved the issue.  Though beware, you
have do this on all your Client Access servers.

  • Not Enough Hard Drive Space on my Mac Mini to Save Deleted User Account Folder: What to do?

I am no longer able to access my original user account on my mac mini because the account is corrupted and won't load. Thanks to the helpful advice I found on the internet, I was able to create a new user account and resume using my mac, but all of my old files are trapped in the old user account.
The plan was to delete the old user account, create a disk image of the old account folders, and then migrate those folders to the new user account. Unfortunately, I don't have enough disc space left on my Mac to do that. I have just under 11gb left after deleting absolutely everything I could, and I need 81gb for the old user files. The back up plan was to select the "don't change the home folder" option, but when I went to delete the account, there was no such option. The message simply read:
"The user's home folder will not be saved. To do so, you need 81.1gb of free disk space. Try emptying the trash or deleting other files on your disk, then deleting the user account. If you do not want to save the user's home folder, click delete immediately."
My only two choices were CANCEL or DELETE IMMEDIATELY. There was no "don't change the home folder" option.
So I am not sure how to proceed. Here are some questions:
    1) is there a way to save the disk image directly to an external drive instead of the user's folder on the mac hard drive?
    2) If I use the "delete immediately" option, will the files go into a "deleted users" folder where they can be recovered or will they just be erased from the computer and unretrievable?
    3) Is there a way to use terminal to change access permission on the original user account files so that I can copy them onto an external drive or integrate them with the new user account without having to first delete the original user account?
    4) In the absence of deleting the user account, will using either:
    sudo chown -R `id -un` /Users/oldusername
    and/or
    sudo chmod -R u+rw /Users/oldusername
in Terminal allow the new user account permission to access the original user files and merge them seamlessly into my new user account? Or must I delete the original account first?
    5) Is there something else I haven't thought of that would work, would be more efficient, or more effective? This wouldn't be the first time I have overthought a solution...
When considering any solutions, please keep in mind that I cannot launch the original user account as that starts the whole endless loading loop. So, while I have the password for the original user account, any solution would appear to require that I work from the new user account only, without launching the old account.  Also I am a complete newbie at this. I've used Macs exclusively for 17 years but this is the first time I've had to do anything like this. Up to now, everything has always "just worked".  So please be as detailed with any instructions as possible!
    Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
Mac Mini 2ghz 1g ram running OS 10.4.11

I think ComputerFixer is correct, you should be able to drag and drop it to another drive, no worries. However, if not, you could create an disk image of it using DiskUtility and create it on a new drive. But again, I don't think that is necessary. If you have administrator rights with your new account, can you simply go into the old user account folder and drag and drop the files you want to save? I have done that as well as copy the older user account to another drive (in my case, another computer on the network) and salgage my files from there. Is that an option for you?

  • Users accessing sites they do not have permissions to

We just upgraded our sites to SharePoint 2013. We are using host named site collections and custom master pages with the publishing feature turned on for each site collection.
The problem I am facing is users can now access some sites they should not be able to, but not anything actual content within the site. For example, a user can access http://sharepoint/sites/restricted, but does not have access to http://sharepoint/sites/restricted/library.
I checked the web app user policy, and I verified that all users do not have full read, which is also verified by the fact that users cannot access 'sites/restricted/library'
There is nowhere in the site permissions of http://sharepoint/sites/restricted that says everyone should have this 'limited' viewing permission. Does anyone have any ideas?

I do not have a 'SitePges' library. When I check the user permissions on the pages library for a user that should not have any access, I get the following (which is the exact same as I get when checking a document library they cannot access)
Permission levels given to Jane Doe
    None
The following factors also affect the level of access for Jane Doe
    Allow
