Users and Administrators

I am creating a Oracle Apex application.
My question:
The application has two sides; Administration and Users. The purpose of administration is to assign users to groups.
Users should only be able to access information - groups they have been assigned.
For example; Mr A. is assigned to group A. Mr B is assigned to group B. Mr C is assigned to group A, B and C.
Users should only be allowed access to areas they are assigned to and not administrative controls. The users should have a different view to that of administrators.
Is this possible? I'm finding Oracle Apex difficult to get my head-around!

Hi,
what you are describing is is definitely achievable with Apex, see Authorisation, but as Jari points out, a good place to start is the documentation. There are also other resources such as tutorials and blogs. Have a good look around the OTN Application Express website and that will lead you to many learning resources.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/overview/index.html
There are also some good tutorials at
https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=44785:2:5160333337334:::2,RIR,CIR:P2_GROUP_ID,P2_PRODUCT_ID:1000,2039
which itself is an Apex application.
The best way to get good value out of this forum and the people who help out here is to ask questions that are more specific to a particular problem and not expect the forum to be an alternative to reading documentation, doing tutorials and experimenting with your own applications.
Hope this helps.

Andre

  • Question for Printing - Local Administrators can See all printers but ordinary users and additional administrators cannot

    Hello, this is urgent. This is the setting, Using Citrixx XenApp, branch users will print into the head office. The built-in admin can see all printer sessions in head office and branch but ordinary users and additional administrators cannot.
    Even though, I'll put the users in the group Administrators,still, they cannot see all the printers, they can just see their own. But, I need to see ALL.
    Please help me. Thanks.

    Hi Lei Mab,
    Please understand that this forum is used for the discussion about issues related Windows 7 operating system usage, any 3rd-party software usage issue would not be supported here.
    The curent situation is when you are using Citrixx XenApp for the printing task, please seek help at their official website support forum.
    Meanwhile, if we are in a domain environment, please take a look at the group policies settings, which might be the cause of the issue you encountered.
    Besides, take a look at the following path:
    Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers
    See if the printers would be listed there.

  • VBS: Add domain user and group to local administrators

    I have a piece of VBS code that I have modified that basically adds a specified domain user and group to the PCs local Administrators group. It works on Windows 7, but not on Windows 8 at all.
    Call AddUserToGroup("./Administrators", "myDomain.net/NetworkAdminis")
    Call AddUserToGroup("./Administrators", "myDomain.net/Domain Admins")
    Call addDomainUser("myDomain", "myUserGroup")
    Sub AddUserToGroup(local, domain)
    Dim objLocalGroup
    Dim objDomainGroup
    Dim server
    For Each server in servers
    Set objLocalGroup = GetObject("WinNT://" & local & ",group")
    Set objDomainGroup = GetObject("WinNT://" & domain & ",group")
    With objLocalGroup
    .Add(objDomainGroup.AdsPath)
    .SetInfo
    End With
    Next
    Set objLocalGroup = Nothing
    Set objDomainGroup = Nothing
    End Sub
    Sub addDomainUser(strDomain, strUser)
    Dim strComputer
    Dim objWshNet
    Dim objGroup
    Dim objUser
    Set objWshNet = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
    strComputer = objWshNet.ComputerName
    Set objGroup = GetObject("WinNT://" & strComputer & "/Administrators,group")
    Set objUser = GetObject("WinNT://" & strDomain & "/" & strUser & ",user")
    If Not objGroup.IsMember(objUser.ADsPath) Then
    objGroup.Add (objUser.ADsPath)
    End If
    Set objWshNet = Nothing
    Set objGroup = Nothing
    Set objUser = Nothing
    End Sub
    I have debugged the code line by line using VBA's IDE and there seems to be no error condition firing. It executes all lines, but it is not adding the users and groups as it did with Windows 7 and below. The script is being run as local administrator.

  • I can not re-install/ update apple iTunes on my HP PC running Win7-64.  I get a registry key error when installing and am asked to make sure I have access.  IT is a home PC with one user and I have admin priveledges.

    When the updater notified me of an iTunes update, I selected the update option.  The update failed and killed the version I was running.  I have tried for a year to fix the problem without sucess.  I can't completely remove all Apple products.  I can not install any apple products especially iTunes which is the only one I am interested in.
    When I install iTunes now I get a registry key error similar to this:
    I am using a machine where I am the only user and am the Admin.   I have looked at the security settings on this key and see nothing wrond with it or the parent keys.  I tried removing all apple products but ran into similar problems.  At this time I still have Bonjour. Mobile Device Support, Software Update, and Application Support installed.

    These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
    First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
    Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
    b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
    c. Perform the following actions
    i. Right Click on Components Folder
    ii. Select Permissions
    iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
    iv. Select Advanced Button
    v. Select Owner Tab
    vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
    vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
    viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
    ix. Select Apply
    x. Select Apply again
    xi. Exit the Registry Editor
    Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

  • Bridge Cache Destination Cannot be Changed from Old User and Find does not Work

    Often administrators find themselves in a position of making a new admin account to resolve a lost system drive or some compatibility problem.
    If Bridge has a cache destination linked to this old account, it is due to the older admin account being deleted before the new admin account is setup in Bridge with the cache destination properly linked to the new user cache in the library locations for bridge caches.  This problem causes some headaches with things like keywords and find.
    If you have had to restore your system or generate a "new user" account, it would be important to go into Bridge and ensure that your cache preference in pointing at the right location, before deleting the "old user".  If the "old user" is deleted, you might find the cache location locked to this "old user" in a file structure that no longer exists.  This makes if fixed and unchangeable.
    If you encounter this problem, regenerate the old user name as an administrator account.  Go into that account and start Bridge.  Check the location of the cache file in the preferences.  You will see that it is located in the proper place for this new account.  It is also the same location as your current account which no doubt you have found is frozen into place.
    At this point, while in the "old user" admin account:
    Go get info on your "old user"/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS3/Cache
    Note the folder nest and go to each folder and apply permissions to each of these folders that allow your "new user" read and write access.  You can do this in one step by applying the permissions to the Library folder and all enclosed folders, but who knows what that might do.  Focus on solving the problem.
    Then:
    Switch back to your "new user" (that is your current user) account, open Bridge, go to the preference for cache and you will note, magically, it is now located in the right account, it has been unfrozen from the "old user", once deleted, and now brought back to life to help you get ride of this problem.
    For good measure, press the choose button, you will find you go to the finder to the right location in your "new user"/current user account.
    You will also find that FIND works after this and also Bridge is zippy and fast as it should be.
    You can now quit Bridge, Log Out of your "new user" account, log back in and find that all is just the way it should be.  Once this is done, go into your system preferences for users and delete the "old user" account (into the trash, do not save a thread).
    It seems that there are many situations where reviving and old user id will help with repairs to permissions problems in a mac that has been through system drive failure or significant application conflicts that require making a new user.

  • Differences between Roles, Schemas, Users and Logins.

    I need differences between Roles, Schemas, Users and Logins. Can anyone help me. Thanks in advance

    Roles:
    I think of creating roles in the database to group users of like
    function.  Roles are granted certain permissions in the database.  You
    should become familiar with the fixed database roles since these will be
    utilized once you start creating users within the database.  Also, once
    you see the type of permissions that are granted to each role, is makes
    more sense.
    Schema: there can be several schemas in a database,
    which will house different types of objects such as tables, indexes,
    stored procedures, functions,  etc.  Users own schemas.  Looking into
    the AdventureWorks database illustrates this concept, with several
    schemas like HR, Production, etc.
    Login: Think about login as
    gaining access to the SQL Server instance.  If a user account is not
    granted any permissions within the instance, you basically just were
    able to unlock the door and enter the room, by creating a user you then
    grant access to the database objects or principals, and can begin to
    work with them.
    Users:  Users own schemas, and as such will be
    able to manipulate the objects they own.  Some of the manunipulations
    are very permissive, such as creating tables, indexes, stored
    procedures, functions, etc.  These are developers and administrators.
    Users
    are created and granted permissions for application use, which will
    have select, update, insert, and delete and execute permissions  to a
    finite set of objects in the schema, for which the application will need
    to function properly.
    In a client server database, as an
    example, of the structure.  Roles were defined which provides the
    permissions to the database objects in the database, which only has one
    schema 'dbo'. One SQL server login was created with the same username,
    and dbo is the assigned default schema, and the roles assigned to that
    username.
    In the application, each specific user is given there own
    "application" login which is mapped to the one defined sql server
    login.

  • Hide all except one object in Active Directory Users and Computers.

    Hello,
    I have a question.. I need to allow to one group of "administrators" creating users in one OU and adding computers to the domain, nothing else. I allowed them to log on DC using the GPO "Allow log on locally", because I don't want to give
    them administrator rights, I allowed them to do these operations on one OU through delegation wizard and now I need to make all OUs, groups etc. invisible to them except this OU. What is the best way how to achieve this? Thank you...
    d.

    I would disable the ability to allow them to login. I suggest to create a Computers OU that you can delegate to the "admins" to add computers, and don't use the default Computers container.
    I assume the admins are using Windows 7 or newer. You can customize an RSAT installation to just provide the ADAC.

    Or if you want to chop it down and control it further, create a custom ADUC with just that OU you've delegated. I've done this in the past and worked fine for my customer:
    Delegate an Organizational Unit (OU) in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC), then create a custom MMC or customized RSAT

  • FWSM user and administrator multi-contexts authentication under ACS radius

    Hi,
    I’m preparing the setup of an ACS radius server for FWSM-related authentication operations.
    FWSMs will be in release 2.2, inserted in Catalyst 6500 (MSFC – IOS), in routed mode, in multi-switch active / standby setup, with multiple contexts configured.
    User and administrator access management will be performed thanks to a radius ACS server.
    I intend to install ACS onto an armored windows 2000 server SP4 , using a local database.
    PDM 4.0 is needed in order to manage multiple-contexts on FWSMs.
    Are there any points I should be aware about such a configuration, especially regarding the user and administrator authentication access management setup ?
    The fact is that administrators will have to be defined and restricted to their own context, without privileges onto other contexts. Do you have feedback about such a setup or relevant information to point to me ?
    Many thanks in advance for your attention.
    Best regards,
    Arnaud

    Each of the contexts will behave like individual firewalls for your purposes here. So, they each get a AAA config, and you could put them into their own groups for access control. Protect the Admin context especially well, it controls system resources for the others. Depending on how many FWSMs you have, you may want to look into the Pix MC, which is similar to PDM, but works for multiple FWSMs. It is a part of CiscoWorks VMS.

  • User and Computer memberships are missing after moving computer and user objects using ADMT

    Hi to everybody.
    Source domain Windows 2003. Destination domain Windows 2008. I use ADMT 3.2
    I have noticed 2 issues:
    1. After migrating users, membership to all Bultin domain groups, is lost. Migration of custom groups is completed without any problems prior to start migrating users.
    a. Example 1: user in source domain belongs to Domain Admins, Domain Users and a custom Domain group with the name Test. After moving the user, the membership is as follow: Domain Users and Test! And the worst of all
    is that I believe that Domain users membership was not produced by the migration but from the AD mechanism that automatically gives every new user the Domain Users membership. Look at example 2.
    b. Example 2:user in source domain belongs only to the Domain group with the name Test. After moving the user, the membership is as follow: Domain Users and Test!
    2. After migrating a computer account from source domain to destination domain I have noticed in the "Local Users and Groups" that the Domain Admins  membership in the Administrators group is missing.
    Any ideas? I think I am missing something fundamental here.
    Thank you all in advance.

    additionally, from the migration log I see the following
    WRN1:7372 ADMT does not process BUILTIN accounts or change the membership of BUILTIN groups (Administrators,
    etc.).
    there is 1 line of the above WRN for each builtin group that the user belongs in the source domain. This
    means that there I have to do this membership update manually? And what if I have 1500 users and 300 groups?

  • Ribbon only to content author and administrators

    Hi,
    Recently I have taken up SharePoint 2013 exam and I got bit confused for one of the question i.e.
    Adventure works uses a SharePoint publishing site to host their public facing website at
    http://www.adventureworks.com.The website gives external users the ability to register and sign in to the site to buy Adventure works products. You notice that publicly registered users see the SharePoint ribbon.
    You need to ensure that SharePoint ribbon available only to content authors and administrators. What should you do?
    A) In the SharePoint project add and Empty element and then use the <HideCustomAction>tag to hide the ribbon
    B) Open the current site master page in SharePoint designer, place the Sharepoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl control around the div tag with the s4-ribbonrow ID. Set the PermissionString
    to ManageSubWeb.
    C) In the SharePoint project. Create a user control and add the following code segment to hide the ribbon
    Page Load method
    If(UserHasPermissions(SPContext.Current.web.CurrentUser))
    SPContext.Current.Site.CommandUIVisible = true;
    Else
    SPContext.Current.Site.CommandUIVisible = false;
    D) Open the current site master page in SharePoint designer and then place Sharepoint:SecurityTrimmedControl control around the div tag with the s4-ribbonrow ID.Set the permission
    string to AddAndCustomizePages
    E) Open the current site master page in SharePoint designer, find a div tag with the s4-ribbonrow ID and the remove all of the contents of the div.
    I feel that both options D and E are applicable but I couldn’t come to conclusion.
    Please share your opinion the same.
    Regards,
    Sudheer
    Thanks & Regards, Sudheer

    Believe  the option D is correct, removing all the contents in the s4-ribbonrow ID will hide the ribbon for all users.

  • Read this to find out how to add/update/delete users and change/reset passwords programmatically

    WebLogic 7.0
    I have read a number of questions on how to do these but not many answers, so
    after figuring it all out, I thought I would post a message describing all these
    tasts (It would be great if BEA would start something like 'HOW-TOs for Linux'
    for WebLogic)
    -1. Imports required :
    import weblogic.jndi.Environment;
    import weblogic.management.MBeanHome;
    import weblogic.management.WebLogicObjectName;
    import weblogic.management.configuration.DomainMBean;
    import weblogic.management.configuration.SecurityConfigurationMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.RealmMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.AuthenticationProviderMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.GroupEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.UserEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.UserPasswordEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.security.providers.authentication.*;
    0. Code to retrieve DefaultAuthenticatorMBean (this code is running inside WebLogic
    server - I have it inside EJB):
    DefaultAuthenticatorMBean authBean;
    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    MBeanHome mbeanHome = (MBeanHome) ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.ADMIN_JNDI_NAME);
    //Find UserEditorMBean
    DomainMBean dmb = mbeanHome.getActiveDomain();
    SecurityConfigurationMBean scmb = dmb.getSecurityConfiguration();
    RealmMBean rmb = scmb.findDefaultRealm();
    AuthenticationProviderMBean[] providers = rmb.getAuthenticationProviders();
    for (int i = 0; i < providers.length; i++) {
    if (providers[i] instanceof DefaultAuthenticatorMBean) {
    authBean = (DefaultAuthenticatorMBean) providers;
    break;
    1. Create/Drop/Update users
    to perform these tasks, the user must be logged in into weblogic and be in Administrators
    group. Then, the code is as follows:
    create user: authBean.createUser(username, password, description);
    remove user: authBean.removeUser(username);
    change user's description: authBean.setUserDescription(username, newDescription);
    remove user from group: authBean.removeMemberFromGroup(groupname, username);
    add user to group: authBean.addMemberToGroup(groupname, username);
    2. Change other users' passwords (MUST BE ADMIN TO DO THIS - by Admin I mean be
    a member of Administrators group)
    authBean.resetUserPassword(username, newPassword);
    3. Change your own password:
    this is a bit trickier, because if you are not an admin, you can't change your
    own password!!!! This is a part that I personally don't understand - seems like
    a screw up on BEA's part. So, to allow users to change their own passwords, you
    must change security context in the middle of processing to that of Admin user
    and run this function as Admin user. Although a bit ackward, it's very easy to
    do. Suppose you have two EJBs - EJB A and EJB B. EJB A does normal processing
    for the user and always runs in logged in user's security context. Now, suppose
    you want to add a method to EJB A to change current password. The method may
    look like:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    throws some exceptions
    Now, there is no way to do it in EJB A, because for most users, it will run in
    a 'non-admin' security context. So, to get around it, you create another
    EJB - EJB B. This EJB has one method:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    throws some exceptions
    and one major difference - this EJB always runs in a secrity context of admin
    user. To get an EJB B running 'as admin user', all you have to do in EJB A is
    the following
    EJB A:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    Hashtable props = new Hashtable();
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "wlmanager");
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "password");
    // get context that with different credentials
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(props);
    EJBBHome home = (EJBBHome) ctx.lookup("EJBBHome");
    EJBBLocal adminEJB = home.create();
    adminEJB.changePassword(logon, oldpwd, newpwd);
    adminEJB.remove();
    of course, this poses a problem of hardcoding user id and password for admin user
    in your application - you can come up with your own ways to secure that.
    THAT's IT!!! You can use the method explained in part 3 to allow non-admin users
    to do pretty much everything, however for the sake of security, I would definetly
    vote against it and use part 3 to ONLY allow users change their own passwords
    Enjoy

    I have a similar question, I would like to edit the artwork for EACH episode in the podcast, as well as have one artwork for the entire podcast series. Any suggestions? This is a podcast that I've created -- I did the same thing for a TV Show where I was able to do custom artwork for each episode, but not one single artwork for the entire series. Does anyone have suggestions of how i should proceed?
    Recap:
    One image for entire Podcast Series (or TV show)
    Different Set of Images for each episode in Podcast. (Understand how to do this in TV show)
    Thanks!

  • How to find out list of users and their access on Sharepoint

    Hello Everyone
    How can i find out list of users and what access they have on SharePoint site? I want to create table with list of the users and their access?
    Thanks

    you can get the report using below powershell scripts. first one gives list of users in a site collection level.
    The second link generates the permissions reports for each user.

  • Using Messages with Multiple Users and Multiple Computers

    I have two users who share two different computers, switching between them during the day.
    I'd like to use messages on them for us to send text messages in the office, however, it asks them on logging in (most, but not everytime) to re-enter their apple id password.  It seems that using icloud for messages among multiple computers like this isn't good.  its like it wants each computers to be linked with a particular user, and doesn't like it that the users are moving around from computer to computer
    Options to avoid this nuisance?
    1.  Would bonjour messaging work, and then just remove the icloud account from messages?
    2.  How about setting up the message server on my ML Server, would that avoid this problem?

    I'd say probably make sure that in the advanced tab under edit>preferences you should make sure they both point to the same file.
    My turn now, how to i post a thread, there's no button.
