Using a concastinated variable to indentify an object

Hi,
what I'm trying to do is loop through 81 jTextFields and disable them using concastinated variable names. I don't even know if this is possible.
To clarify : I have 9 jPanes, (named Pane1 to Pane9). Each jPane has 9 jTextFields, (named a11 -> a19, a21 ->a29 ...... a91->a99).
The code below is where I've got to and am having the problem. The compiler is not recognising TotalName as an object name for a jTextField
public void TurnOffCells ()
        PaneNumber = 1;
        CellNumber = 1;
        while (PaneNumber<10)
            while (CellNumber<10)
                PaneName = "Pane"+PaneNumber;
                CellName = "a"+PaneNumber+CellNumber;
                TotalName = PaneName+"."+CellName;
                TotalName.setEnabled(false);
                CellNumber++;
            PaneNumber++;
    }Please ignore my lack of convention correctness :)

The code below is where I've got to and am having the problem. The compiler is not recognising TotalName as an object name for a jTextFieldThat's because you can't do it that way. Why don't you just put them all in a List and iterate over it?
public void TurnOffCells ()
PaneNumber = 1;
CellNumber = 1;
while (PaneNumber<10)
while (CellNumber<10)
PaneName = "Pane"+PaneNumber;
CellName = "a"+PaneNumber+CellNumber;
TotalName = PaneName+"."+CellName;
TotalName.setEnabled(false);
CellNumber++;
PaneNumber++;
}That code doesn't show what Object any of those variables are instances of. Are they Strings?
Please ignore my lack of convention correctness :)No. That coupled with your lack of initialization statements makes it impossible to determine what you're trying to do with your code.
Long story short, use a List (or a Map).

  • Using a string variable to create an object

    Hi, I just have a quick question. It is probably very simple but I can not seem to find an asnwer anywhere.
    I have a class called Receive, from this class I derrive 12 difference other classes.
    I also have a hashtable with a bunch of Object objects. At run time I get one of these objects according to some hastable key. So once I have this object I need to cast it to the right type (one of the above mentioned 12).
    So I know I can find out which type this object is by doing this: object.getClass()
    This returns a Class object. I then need to somehow use this class object to perform the cast. I tried everything and it doesnt seem to work. Then I thought well I can get the string name of the class : object.getClass().getName()
    So I'm wandering if there is a way to use this string to cast my object. Or maybe there is another way.
    I did see the cast() method in the Class api but I can't figure out the point of it since is returns an Object class object and not my class's object.

    I took your advice and re factored the Receive class so it had all the functionality I needed except two methods which would then be overridden in the derived classes. What I had a hard time understanding is once an object of class say SpecialReceive extends Receive it can be referred to as Receive yet still maintain that it's a SpecialReceive.
    What I mean is if I give a Receive object to some method and this method has no idea that this object is actually SpecialReceive and it calls a method say run() which gets overridden by the SpecialReceive. I thought that since this method has no idea what type of Receive this object is it will execute Receive's run(). But it actually does know what type of class it is and it executes the right run() method (the one that SpecialReceive overrides).
    After I realized this there is no more need for casting.
    Thanks everyone for your contributions.

  • ActiveX in BradySoft (CodeSoft) - What Class/Method/Object's would I use to send variable form data to BradySoft?

    What Class/Method/Object's would I use to send variable form data to BradySoft? I have a basic label setup in BradySoft and I want to send it variable form data (a serial number) from Labview ActiveX. I have attached Brady's ActiveX programmers guide but can't figure out what to use for this. P.S. I would call Brady or TekLynx tech support about this but they have a strict policy whereas BradySoft supports ActiveX but their tech support doesn't provide programming help with it. I figured I'd try the NI Forums.

    Aaronb, I presume by publishing an ActiveX programmers manual the BradySoft software installs Active X objects. You may choose to interact with these objects within LabVIEW using Active X controls. The following link will provide a starting point for LabVIEW help topics on Active X communication: Select ActiveX Object Dialog Box

  • Use of global variables like g_cnt_transactions_transferred in the LSMW

    Hi SapAll.
    when i had a look at the some of the LSMW's whic use IDOC as the object of uploading data into SAP from external Files i have found in the coding under the step "Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules" that they use some of the global variables like below
    .if p_trfcpt = yes or sy-saprl >= '46A'.
      EDI_DC40-DOCNUM = g_cnt_transactions_transferred + 1.
    endif.
    .EDI_DC40-CIMTYP = g_cimtyp.
    .EDI_DC40-MESTYP = g_mestyp.
    .EDI_DC40-MESCOD = g_mescod.
    .if p_filept = yes.
      EDI_DC40-SNDPOR = g_fileport.
    elseif p_trfcpt = yes.
      EDI_DC40-SNDPOR = g_trfcport.
    endif.
    my doubt is where i can find these variables 'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ','g_cimtyp','g_mescod','g_fileport','g_trfcport' in the LSMW and what is the use of the variable  'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ' in the LSMW.
    I have treid to find out the above listed variables looking in step 'Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules' under global variabels list and the other lists also but i couldnt found.
    can any one help me in this ?
    regards.
    Seetha.

    Hi Seetha,
               In the LSMW Workbench go to the option user menu.  And check the option display conversion program.
    Now when you execute with the radio button on dislplay conversion program, you ll see the code that got generated in the background while you built your LSMW.
    The global variables that you have mentioned are bound to be there in this program generated in the background..
    You can put a break point here and see for yourself what the value of these global variables are at runtime.
    File port, TRFC port , no. of transactions executed by one run of the LMSW Idoc program , message type are some of the fields that you have asked for .

  • How to get the current month for a variable based on info object 0FISCPER3

    Hie Gurus
    I am working on the financial reports i am failing to derive the Current month from the variable based on infobject 0FISCPER3 PERIOD .
    I would also like to get the same month from the prevoius year. Any ideas?

    If I understood correctly, you need in your repot
    Current Month Plan This year || YTD Plan This Year || Current Month Plan Last Year || YTD Plan Last Year
    Your variable 0I_FISCPER3 must be on the object 0FISCPER3 which is nothing but just the Fiscal Period. This variable is a user entry mandatory Interval variable.
    if you are entering a range in the input screen for this variable, you will get cumulative values. If you just need to get the value for a month in first column your report, you will have to create another variable of type Customer Exit which will read the "To value" entered for the variable 0I_FISCPER3 and columns for Current Month should be restricted on this variable.
    if you are entering a single value in the selection screen of this variable, current month column should be restricted on this variable with "Equal To" operation and YTD colmns should be restricted to "Less Than Equal to" operator with this variable.
    0FISCPER3 just have posting period and not year, so you will have to use varialbes for 0FISCYEAR separately.
    Please let us know if it helps or if you are using some other variable based on 0FISCPER3 or 0FISCPER.
    Regards,
    Gaurav

  • Error while using selection option variable in the selection screen

    Hi All,
    I am facing an issue while using selection option variable in the selection screen for one of my reports.
    Scenario: For the field "Region From" we need to have wild card logic () in tes selection screen, for example if we put "BE" in the selection screen for the field Region From then the query should be executed only for those "Region From" values which begin from "BE".
    Approach: For the above requirement I have made a selection option variable for "Region From". This allows use wild card
    But when the report is executed we get the following error:
    "System error in program CL_RSR_REQUEST. Invalid filter on ETVRGNFR".
    (ETVRGNFR is technical name of the info object Region From)
    Though the report is executed it displays all the values for the field "Region From" irrespective of the selection given in the selection screen.
    Please give suggestions / alternate solutions to crack this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Priyanka.

    Hi,
    Try to use a variable of type Customer Exit and do the validation inside the exit to display according to your request.
    This is just my view, i am not sure if u are already using this or Char. Variable.
    Cheers.

  • Convert String variable value  to an Object referece type

    Hi all,
    I want to know that if there any possible way to convert String variable value to a Object reference type in java. I'll explain by example if this is not clear.
    Let's think that there is a string variable name like,
    String name="HelloWorld";
    and there is a class name same to the variable value.
    class HelloWorld
    I am passing this string variable value to a method which is going to make a object of helloworld;
    new convertobj().convert("HelloWorld");
    class convertobj{
    public void convert(String name){
    // in hert it is going to create the object of HelloWorld;
    // HelloWorld hello=new HelloWorld(); just like this.
    now i want to do this from the name variable value.( name na=new name()) like wise.
    please let me know if there any possible way to do that.
    I am just passing the name of class by string variable then i wanted to make a instance of the class which come through the variable value.
    thanx.

    Either cast the object to a HelloWorld or use the reflection API (Google it) - with the reflection API you can discover what methods are available.
    Note: if you are planning to pass in various string arguments and instantiate a class which you expect to have a certain method... you should define an interface and have all of your classes that you will call in this way implement the interface (that way you're sure the class has a method of that name). You can then just cast the object to the interface type and call the method.

    Dear All,
    I'm new to jsp, and would like to ask how to set and use a global variable within a session?
    Thanks in advance.

    With session.setAttribute("name",object) you can store a Attribute in the session object.
    with session.getAttribute("name") you can get it.
    That's it.

  • Functionality loss when 'Using Query Bind Variables in Advanced Search

    Regarding: 'Using Query Bind Variables in Quick or Advanced Search'
    The functionality to do the following is lost when I use bind variables in the Advanced Search:
    "Result matches all conditions"
    "Result matches any condition"
    "Case Sensitive?"
    Is there a way to Search with Detail groups but to keep the above functionality?

    Hi,
    Your application module impl java class extends the JHeadstart class JhsApplicationModuleImpl. THe latter declares a method:
    public void advancedSearch(String viewObjectUsage,java.util.ArrayList arguments,Boolean allConditionsMet).
    In your application module impl java override the advancedSearch method where you can include your own custom code before invoking the super method:
    super.advancedSearch(viewObjectUsage,arguments,allConditionsMet);
    The 'arguments' parameter is an arraylist of QueryCondition objects. You can set several properties for QueryCondition objects such as case-sensitity, operators etc.

  • Returning variable number of DB objects to Java

    Hi,
    Is it possible to receive a variable length array from a procedure's OUT parameter? I have been using varray for creating user-defined DB object arrays. But they are of fixed length and this leads to writing extra logic in Java-and/or-procedure to determine whether more records (than those returned in varray) are to be fetched and calling the procedure more than once if not all records have been fetched in the first attempt.
    I am not sure if nested tables can be used for this purpose(esp for passing data to Java).
    Code sample will be very helpful.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Venkat.

    i'm not using nested tables. i just want to store my schema details in some different computer so that we can access the data when source database is under failure.
    i know we can do this using dblink.but its time consuming.and we are doing it explicitly.i want to know the procedure to do this implicitly.just if you list the procedure i can implement it.and the oracle manual to refer.

  • Using a java variable in jsp-Reports?

    Hello everyone,
    is it possible to use a java variable in the xml-definition of a report? Something like
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/lib/reports_tld.jar" prefix="rw" %>
    <% String someSqlStatement="select * from emp"; %>
    <rw:report id="myReport">
    <rw:objects id="myObjects">
    <report DTDVersion="9000010" name="myReport">
    <data>
    <dataSource name="Q_1">
    <select>
    <![CDATA[
    <%= someSQLStatement %>
    ]]>
    </select>
    It won't work that way (as the string is not evaluated and inserted into the definition, but how could it be done? Would be great to modify the report programatically that way? Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Marcel Jantz

    To pass values to Reports, you should use the "parameters" attribute in the <rw:report> tag. In the above case you would have:
    <% String myParameters="p_someSqlStatement=select%20*%20from%20emp"; %>
    <rw:report id="myReport" parameters="<%= myParameters %>">
    <rw:objects id="myObjects">
    <report DTDVersion="9000010" name="myReport">
    <data>
    <dataSource name="Q_1">
    <select>
    <![CDATA[ &p_someSqlStatement ]]>
    </select>
    The body of the <rw:objects> tag isn't evaluated since the Reports Builder needs to be able to open and load the <rw:objects> tag. As the Reports builder doesn't run the .jsp on open, it only parses it, the <rw:objects> tag can't have values that need to be evaluated.

  • Using the system variable cpInfoQuizAttempts

    My content is run through an LMS. I am trying to used advanced code using the system variable cpInfoQuizAttempts so that a caption appears when the variable value = 3. Apparently, I can't utilize the value of this variable; in fact, I can't even display it's value in a caption. I am trying to create advanced code on a course page that displays a caption like "You canot take this quiz again because you have already taken it the maximum number of time possible." once someone has taken the course the maximum number of times.  I assume this is the variable Captivate is using to show # attempts on the results page. I tried this with just a user variable but the value of the user variable is not stored or saved on the LMS. Therefore, if you have a maximum number of 3 attempts and someone takes the quiz twice, if he logs off and logs back on, the previous value (2) is not saved and the value reverts to the default (0).
    Any ideas how this could be done?
    KO

    I'm pretty sure that all user defined variables are saved in suspend_data in the LMS. Therefore your user defined variable should be there, but I don't see any way how Captivate would be able to retrieve it again out of the box.
    I think that the cpInfoQuizAttempts variable refers to attempts done in the same "session". So if fail the test and then retry and fail it would have a count of 2. However, once the user exists the course the variable is no longer available to Captivate.
    As Rick said most LMS' have a function to define max / min attempts of a quiz. However, this most likely requires that you publish the quiz as an independant SCO since the "lockout" would apply for that SCO. Basically if you only have one SCO then your users wouldn't be able to access the content or the quiz if they exceded the max attempts. Your content should therefore be one (or more) SCO(s) and your quiz one separate SCO.
    If I'm not mistaken it's also possible to define the max / min attempts in the SCORM manifest, but this is very geeky.
    If you own and can use Flash you could solve your problem two ways:
    1. Create a Flash file that retrieves the user defined variable from the LMS suspend_data and then sends that back into Captivate. Import the Flash file into your Captivate project.
    2. Create a Flash file that stores and retrieves the attempts in a Shared Object on the users PC and then brings the stored value back into Captivate. Import the Flash file into your Captivate project.

  • Consequences of using unconstrained query variables?

    I'm trying to determine what the consequences are (if any) of using
    unconstrained query variables vs using variables with a contains clause in
    order to navigate through collection fields.
    In the Java Data Objects book the example given for collection field
    navigation is as follows...
    String filter = "customer.orders.contains(o) && o.dispatched == false";
    q.declareVariables("Order o");
    Using uncontrained variables this could be rewritten as...
    String filter = "customer.orders.dispatched == false";
    I'm using kodo 2.5.5 and need to navigate through multiple collection
    fields. It is far simpler and easier for me to do this using the second
    example above, but I can't find any documentation describing whether its a
    good idea or not. So far the queries generated are correct.

    Nathan

    Hi Marc,
    Using the query form with the variable is portable at present, but I can't
    help wonder whether the spec will change in the future to make using QL
    simpler. All of the examples given in both the JDO book and Kodo
    documenation only ever demonstrate the simplest example. Trying to construct
    a query that spans multiple collections is very time consuming as the
    smallest error in the QL seems to result in "red herring" error messages.
    I've constructed and example for you that uses both methods and produces
    exactly the same SQL. I'm very tempted to continue using the unconstrained
    method because it works and is so simple. Note that in the generated SQL,
    the reason that the table "BOA" is joined to most of the other tables is due
    to vertical inheritance. The example data model is a very cut down diagram
    purely to show the relationships.

    Nathan-
    You should use the query form with the variable, since it is portable
    and spec compliant.
    I'm actually a little surprised that the second filter works at all.
    What is the SQL that results from both the queries?

  • How to share a bind variable across multiple view objects?

    Hi, Can someone tell me if it's possible to share a bind variable among multiple view objects within an application module? My web page displays data from different VOs on different regions. But all data should be controlled by the same bind variable, which appears in all queries. How can I achieve this?
    Please help.

    Best to state your JDev version, and technology stack (eg. ADF BC) when posting.
    I can think of 2 approaches.
    1) Create a parent VO based on SELECT :bindVar FROM dual, then create links between your other VOs and the parent
    2) Create a AM client interface method that programatically sets the bind variable in each VO.
    Can you specify your use case? This one tends to come up when discussing effective from/to dated queries.

  • Is it possible to use Global class variable in a  BAdi

    Hello Experts,
      I have a requirement wherein ,
             I need the Reference of the Class Object to be used in a BAdi. The class object is defined as a global variable.
    By any means can I use the reference variable inside the BAdi.
    thanks

    Hi Hari,
    U can access any objects or variables in BADI only if they are used as parameters in it.
    So please check whether that global object is declared as parameters in the corresponding BADI.
    If so, you can surely use it.
    Reward points if this is useful.
