Using a javscript function in a jsp embedded in another jsp

Hi All,
I have 2 jsp's say, a.jsp and b.jsp. I am using the b.jsp in a.jsp using the
<jsp:include page="b.jsp" /> in a.jsp
Now i am having a javascript function test() in a.jsp. Can i use this javascript function in b.jsp also. I just want the output of this function to be used in b.jsp also. So is there a way i can use it or should i write the function again in b.jsp?
Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Javascript only intercepts on the generated HTML output at the client side, not on the server side JSP code. If the function is there in the HTML output, you can just use it.

  • How to include a jsp page in another jsp jsp page

    hi,
    i m trying to include a jsp page name "header.jsp" into one jsp page name"selectattribute.jsp" i m using these commands in "selectattribute.jsp"
    <%@include file "header.jsp"%> bcz both these jsp page are C:\program files\tomcat 4.0\webapps\examples\jsp\Poject\
    but the problem is that , i m invoking this jsp page "selectattribute.jsp" from a servlet reportcontroller.java using REQUEST DISPATCHER.
    the servlet is in
    C:\Program files\tomcat 4.0\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\Project\
    i want to know how to include some other jsp page in a jsp page and how to invoke applet from jsp page when that particular jsp page is being invoked by servlet.
    plz help
    manish

    use this for including in your selectattribute.jsp
    <jsp:include page="header.jsp" flush="true"/>
    I never tried calling an applet. I think you can write the code for calling the applet in a javabean method and call the method in the jsp

  • How can I link to a jsp page from another jsp page within websphere portal?

    Afternoon all,
    I have a websphere portlet which displays a jsp page. I want to put a hyperlink on the jsp page which when clicked will open another jsp page.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    The anchor tag is the correct one for generating clickable links.
    <jsp:forward> is for transferring control at the server end. Its when you decide to change which page you want to show the user. ie check user is logged in. If not then forward them to login page, else display current page.
    I tried that. It does open the jsp page
    but the place and page links in the portal theme get screwed up.Whats mucked up about them? Do they point where they shouldn't?
    You might try using a <base> tag to set where relative links are resolved from.

  • How to invoke a jsp value to another jsp

    Hi i have a problem on how to invoke a jsp page from jsp page.
    I have this function in index.jsp:
    <script language="JavaScript">          function price(){           window.location="search_date.jsp" + document.forms['test'].getElementById('price');           }          </script>"document.forms['test'].getElementById('price'); " are getting the values from another jsp (search_date).
    <div class="tabbertab" title="Price" id="price"><h2>Tab 2</h2><p> <form name="test">There are three tabs in search_date jsp, the above codes are for price tab.
    Im going to click on an image link in index.jsp, it will direct me to the price tab instead of two other tabs. How can i achieve this?
    Thanks,
    tiffany

    This appears to be more of a javascript than java/JSP question.
    If you are trying to pass a parameter to the jsp search_date.jsp, you need to follow the standard syntax for parameters , with ? for the first and & for any subsequent ones..
    ie
    search_date.jsp?firstParam=1&secondParam=2
    so possibly you meant:
    window.location="search_date.jsp?myParam=" + document.forms['test'].getElementById('price');
    However I am not sure.
    What is clicking on this image link supposed to do?
    Are you wanting to reload a page, or just show hide things without reloading?

  • I want to send a value from JSP file to another JSP file without..

    I want to send a value from one.JSP file to another two.JSP file without to show the content HTML of the one.JSP in two.JSP (with include), only take the values processed in a Bean :
    ===================
    Bean
    package pck;
    import java.io.*;
    public class yyyy {
         public String getXxx() {
              return cccc;
    ========================
    one.JSP
    <jsp:useBean id="idBean" class="pck.yyyy" scope="??"/>
    <%idBean.setXxx(ccc);%>
    ========================
    two.JSP
    <%@ include file="one.jsp"%>
    <%=idBean.getXxx()%>
    but without to show the content HTML of one.JSP in two.JSP.
    Can someone help me?, please.

    Why don't just put the common code in a separate file and include it in both. i.e. the code that is in one.jsp that is needed by two.jsp could be put in a common file and included in both pages, thus the HTML is separated off. If this will not work, set a boolean value in two.jsp that can be used by one.jsp to decide if the HTML should be displayed or not.

    my problem solved 1- i use 2 managed bean , one of request scope (used in attendReport.jsp ) and the other with session scope (used in printAttendReport.jsp)
    2 - add new jsp contains the h:commandLink of the print (attendReportPrintAction.jsp)
    3 - divide the view of attendReport.jsp to two subviews (each subview has its own form) one contains inputs and outputs of attend and the other contains include to (attendReportPrintAction.jsp)
    <%@ include file="attendReportPrintAction.jsp" %>
    4 - send and get parameters using two methods
                public static Object getSessionMapValue(String key) {
                   return FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get(key);
                public static void setSessionMapValue(String key, Object value) {

  • HOW TO CALL A JSP METHOD FROM ANOTHER JSP

    Hi all, I have to JSP1 and JSP2 and i would like to call a method of JS1 from JSP2. Is that possible ??
    Example:
    JSP2 Code
    somewhere in the code ...
    String s = JSP1.getName();
    out.println("EL NOMBRE ES " +s );
    thanks in advance for your help

    No, it is not possible. Infact you cannot write your own methods in JSP. What ever you write in a jsp page is part of _jspService() method. Secondly how can you instantiate another class(generated by JSP), until or unless you know the name of the class that resulted from your JSP. Your JSP page is first converted into .java file which is stored in some package e.g.
    pagecompile.jsp._yourJSPfile.
    I couldnot understand why you need to invoke a method of another JSP in your JSP.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem in passing data from one .jsp page to another .jsp page

    i have a problem here
    Actually i have 2 jsp pages. What im trying to do here is actually i want to pass data from the first jsp page to the second for updating
    The first jsp page contains data that user wants to update in the form of table.
    <td><img src = "edit.gif" alt = "edit" border="0" ><td>
    <TD><%= Name %></td>
    <TD><%= rs.getInt("Age") %></td>
    <TD><%= rs.getString("Gender") %></td>
    So this page displays the data that users wants to update plus one image button (edit button). So when user clicks this button, all the data in this page will be brought to the second .jsp page called updatePersonal for updating.
    The problem here is that it is not displaying the existing data in the second .jsp page.
    The second page basically contains forms
    <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="FirstName" maxlength="30" value = "<%=FirstName%>">
    Can someone please help me. I really dont know what to do..How do i get the data displayed in the text field that is passed from the first .jsp page..thankx in advance

    Please modify below code to:
    td><img src = "edit.gif" alt = "edit" border="0" ><td>

    I'm sure it works</a>

  • JSP Portlet posting information to another JSP

    Hi,
    I have a JSP portlet that needs to submit form information to another JSP that is not a portlet.
    I'm not sure how to do this. The parameter passing examples pass information from one JSP portlet to another JSP portlet. I want to pass information from a JSP portlet to another JSP which is not a portlet.
    Do I use:
    <form name="parameters" method="POST" action="<%= HttpPortletRendererUtil.htmlFormActionLink(request,PortletRendererUtil.PAGE_LINK) %>" >
    <%= HttpPortletRendererUtil.htmlFormHiddenFields(request,PortletRendererUtil.PAGE_LINK) %>
    If so, what does the PAGE_LINK stand for? How do I tell it the name of the JSP that I want it to submit to?
    Is there something else I need to be using?
    Thanks....JS

    I try to answer your questions inline.

    Thanks for the info but....
    Let me add more information....
    We have 2 JSPs, the first being a form input JSP that I have made into a portlet. We want to submit the information from this form to another JSP that will do the insert into the database and return a insert successful message. We want that message to be returned to the form input portlet and displayed in that portlet. We can't pass parameters in the url because it would be way too long.
    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    As I see in your first message you're using POST method for submitting the form. If so, you don't have to worry about the length of the parameters, as far as I remember there are no limits.
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Do I need to make the receiving JSP a portlet also and will that work since it is only showing the results of a post?
    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    You don't need to portletize it just because of technical reasons; but you may portletize if you're having concerns that the navigation leads out of the portal.
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>
    How can we accomplish this? Do you have an example? I really do want to know what the PAGE_LINK stands for and how it's used?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    There is a parameter passing example and an article "Understanding the Parameter Passing JSP Sample" at http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/articles/understanding.parameter.passing.html .
    Do you have any other example in mind you're looking for?
    As far as I understand the key is how you navigate back from your standalone JSP to portal. Do you have a submit button there? Or do you want to redirect the browser after a given interval?
    You may also want to have a look at the multipage example portlet in the PDK that demonstrates how you can display multiple JSPs in the same portlet.

  • Can I  use excel type functions embedded into an online pdf form, ie Qty x Price= total $

    Can I use excel type functions embedded into an online pdf form, ie Qty x Price= total $

    Let me tell you what I am sure about and what I am not sure about:
    I am sure that I want to be able to sell my products online. The industrial market that I sell to usually do not allow the maintenance people that find me on the web, do not have the ability to use credit cards in a typical shopping cart format due to the higher prices that the equipment I sell costs and that most people call me up to 'request a formal quotation' to give to their purchasing depart. So, my bright idea is to create numerous pdf files with very specific url's to match the very specific items that I sell. (1) item per pdf. I am thinking that the advantage to skipping the shopping cart approach and allowing the customer to fill in the qty of items, which would be mulitpled by the price of the item (a constant #) and then hitting a apply button, that would calculate subtotal price. Discounts for the qty the customer inputs (qty of items inputted by customer would be discounted on a percentage x base price) and a refresh the screen. It would allow for SEO advantages from what I have seen in the past in my very vertical market. All forms would be setup using the same functionality, just images, alt text, urls, and readable text would change.
    What I don't know- which is alot, then how to calculate shipping costs. I have a weight per item, which can be added up. I saw an Adobe blog that allows UPS shipping cost to be programmed in. I don't know how dreamweaver works, which was what the blog mentioned would allow for this updated, instantanious interface with UPS and calculating real shipping costs to a specific zip code. Shipping cost would be fluff to this page. The main thing would be to do allow the customer to be able to fill in a qty of the specific item on the page, calculate a discount if / then type thing, be able to have customer email to purchasing dept or print. I would date stamp it with verbage that pricing is valid for XX days and if I could get a copy emailed to me that would be icing on the cake. I believe that this non static pdf would be something different then the current competion and that it would allow for 100's of quotes to be generated without customers having to wait 15 minutes to an hour for me to process the exact document that they are looking for.

    I would only mention that your definition is incomplete for this -
    Contextual selector A type of Style Sheet Selector that
    and that it's most often referred to now as a Descendent selector, not a contextual selector.  It's basically the same as the Compound selector that you have already defined....

  • Using advanced math functions in plugins

    I have an application built in LabVIEW 8.5 that calls external VIs as PlugIns. Normally adding any subVIs of these PlugIns in the same directory as the plugin is located in (or a sub-directory of that) will enable the plugin to execute (I have several such plugins that do run properly).
    The problem now however is that one of these PlugIns use a few math functions (linear fit etc.) and, although all the subVIs and dlls (including the ones from the vi.lib etc.) are located in the same directory - and the application is run on a machine that actually has the full professional LV 8.5 installed on it, it is still not executable (I've built a source distribution to get all the code it depends on out, with no exclusions). If I hit the broken run-button it says the full development system is required to resolve the issue.
    The same plugin works fine in LV 7.1.1 (although then it is distributed as a top level VI in an llb with the support-VIs in it instead).
    Is there still a way in LV 8.5 to distribute a plugin that uses the math functions without having to include the functions in the built application that will launch the plugin?
    MTO

    Hi, Mads,
    My "Quick and Dirty" test shows that it should be no any problems. Just deselect "Exclude vi.lib" Vis in the Distribution, and select that dependecies should be deployed with PlugIn. See attachment, hopefully its will be helpful for you. Such distribution way produced huge llb (because not only linear fit embedded into library, but all math library), but at least it works.
    best regards,
    Andrey.
