Using a weblogic.jar class to estimate number of web app users

Hi,
I'm trying to somehow estimate the number of people using a particular web app
deployment in Weblogic Server 6.1 SP3. Though I know that sessions are stateless,
there must be some way of getting an idea aboout usage mustn't there?! Any ideas
on how and which class to look at in weblogic.jar would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Rob

Robert:
So I get kind of tired writing stuff up and sending it out on newsgroups and
then not being able to go back and find the text and link to it as
references in subsequent posts. So I am going to try something different.
We'll see how this goes.

Thanks for that, Sam. I'm actually aware of the monitoring facility,
but am really
searching for a way to view the number of sessions independently from
the the
console, i.e. by calling some particular Java class in weblogic.jar.
Again, any
thoughts appreciated.

In the console you can turn on session monitoring for a web application.
That should allow you to see the sessions that are being created.

  • No use giving weblogic.jar *.java

    still getting compilation errors on giving javac -classpath weblogic.jar *.java on the prompt C:\bea\user_projects\applications\Untitled4\Untitled4Web\WEB-INF\src\pooja
    i tried giving this command on C:\bea\user_projects\applications\Untitled4\Untitled4Web\WEB-INF where weblogic.jar is actually there,i tried setting envoirment variable also by adding a new classpath C:\bea\user_projects\applications\Untitled4\Untitled4Web\WEB-INF\ ,but in vain same compilation errors occur.

    Hi,
    Your best bet is to let weblogic.jar where it is, probably :
    C:\bea\weblogicXXX\server\lib
    Then move your prompt to the root of your sources (C:\bea\user_projects\applications\Untitled4\Untitled4Web\WEB-INF\src?) .
    And type :
    javac -classpath C:\bea\weblogicXXX\server\lib\weblogic.jar pooja\*.java

  • Not using the most recent checked in version of the web app DLL in Release build

    Hi folks
    Got some peculiar behaviour - I have three build configurations set up within VS2K13 for Debug, Release and DebugOnLive.
    There are some basic XML transformations to update emails, db-settings etc - all very simple and working.
    Needed to do a DebugOnLive build to test an emergency fix and everything built fine.  Tested on the pilot site, saw the fix was working and proceeded to rebuild for Release.
    Everything seemed great except the web-app DLL with the fix in that was used for the release build was not the latest version even though the pilot build had used the latest version.  I had to recheck in the DLL to get it to use the updated version!
    Is this behaviour 'by design' - it seems peculiar you would have to re-check in to change the build if all you are doing is swapping some settings?  You are fixed - all you are doing is building for a different configuration or am I misunderstanding?
    mmacneill123 (MCP)

    Hi Mmacneill123,
    Thanks for your reply.
    You said that “the issue is that I have already checked in the changes…”, and you said “if I check in before
    EVERY build, everything works fine!” too.
    You’re using the default build process template in your build definition? You configured these 3 configurations in your build definition to build your solution 3 times?
    If you remove that DebugForLive configuration, only configure Debug and Release in your solution and build definition to perform build, everything will works fine?
    After you changed the configuration from “DebugForLive” to Release, please check in on your solution first, then queue build definition to build your solution. After you changed the configuration each time, please check-in on your solution first,
    then perform build.

  • How would you limit the number of Web App items a user can enter.

    I am creating a web app where people can list objects/items. I want to offer plans that will enable users to enter up to a predefined number of entries and no more than what they paid to enter. They can then come back as often as they wish during their subscription period to update, create, and/or delete entries ( but again, never more than what thier subscription entitles them ).
    Fore sake of illustration.
    User Plan 1 entitles user to enter 1 web app item,
    while
    User Plan 2 entitle user to enter 3 web app items, and
    User Plan 3 entitles user to enter 5 web app items.
    These are annual plans.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    As per your query you can not define to any user for schedule selected background jobs. I hope you are clear for this.

  • Using SQL Server Reporting Services Standard edtion on the Web/App server

    I would like some clarification of when is it a supported configuration to use SQL Reporting Services Standard Edtion with BPC 7.0M.
    If you have a standard Multi-server installation with WEB/APP/RS/IS on one server and SQL/AS on the other server, is SQL Reporting service required to be Enterprise Edition? The v7.0M SP4 installation guide is a bit confusing on this because it says Reporting Services standard edition is supported, but then it says that SQL Enterprise Edition is required on the web/app server.
    The Web/app would have SQL Management tools (edition-independent), Integration Services (edition-independent) and Reporting Services (Standard is allowed?) - so that would seem to mean that you can have SQL Standard edition on the front-end Web/App server.
    Please advise as to what we need to tell customers going forward.
    thanks,
    Tony DeStefanis

    Hi Tony,
    SQL Server SE is supported for web/application server but you have limitation.
    If you need multiple application server then RS has to be installed into a web farm and in thta case SE can not be installed it is required EE.
    But if you have just one application server SQL server SE can be used without any problem.
    More than that RS can be a complete separate server it is not necessary to be in any of SAP BPC server (web/application or database server) so in that case again you can use SE without any problem.
    EE is required just when you need high availability and in that case you need to install RS into a web farm.
    I hope this clarify a little bit when you can use and when you can not use SE for RS.

  • Weblogic client not shutting down properly in web app

    Hi,
    We have an application running on Tomcat which uses wlfullclient.jar to connect to EJB's hosted on a Weblogic server.  We're seeing errors like the following in the logs when the web application is shutdown, which appear to indicate that the Weblogic client is not cleaning up threads upon application shutdown.
    Jul 31, 2013 10:44:10 AM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader checkThreadLocalMapForLeaks
    SEVERE: The web application [/myapp] created a ThreadLocal with key of type [weblogic.kernel.ResettableThreadLocal$1] (value [weblogic.kernel.ResettableThreadLocal$1@39c79485]) and a value of type [weblogic.kernel.ResettableThreadLocal.ThreadStorage] (value [weblogic.kernel.ResettableThreadLocal$ThreadStorage@5de7c565]) but failed to remove it when the web application was stopped. Threads are going to be renewed over time to try and avoid a probable memory leak.
    Jul 31, 2013 10:44:10 AM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader clearReferencesThreads
    SEVERE: The web application [/myapp] appears to have started a thread named [ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'default'] but has failed to stop it. This is very likely to create a memory leak.
    Is there a recommended way (configuration, API, etc.) of getting the client to clean up after itself?
    Thanks.

    Hi Tim,
    where did you deploy your Coherence jars? In the application (APP-INF/lib or WEB-INF/lib) or into the server classpath?
    If you deployed it within the application APP-INF/lib, then you should register an application-specific ApplicationLifecycleListener in weblogic-application.xml which invokes CacheFactory.shutdown() in the postStop() method.
    If you deployed it within a WEB-INF/lib directory, then you should do similarly from a JSDK ContextListener.
    If you deployed it to the server classpath, then it has nothing to do with the application lifecycle, nor should it have, so it is normal if it does not shut down upon application undeployment.
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • Use the IMAP/SMTP protocol to build email unhosted web app

    hi,
    me and my group started to implement a unhosted Email web application with HTML5/JS. As i know, any browsers not allowed connection to the IMAP/SMTP server in HTML 5 application due to security constraint.
    Is there any solution to overcome this issue. Or can we implement any add-on as intermediate server and connect to IMAP/SMTP Servers through that add-on.
    Thanks and regards.

  • The weblogic.jar has the javax.management.*, it is conflict with rt.jar's

    stream classdesc serialVersionUID = -5467795090068647408, local class serialVersionUID = 1081892073854801359I know the reason is java 1.5 has JMX 1.2 in it.
    So how can I program a class loader to load the weblogic.jar classes in? I have tried a lot of code, but failed.
    Is there any sample here?

    Problem Area:
    As you could notice in the yellow highlighted one that am referring to weblogic.jar from bea installation folder. Now if I use the weblogic.jar from the installation folder then build happens successfully.
    However if I copy weblogic.jar to some other location say : C:\Jeevesh DEV\ULM Core\UnitLinkCore\UnitLink\nordea-ulc\lib\weblogic.jar
    And include this path in the class path in place of weblogic.jar from the installation path, then I get the following errors: Please refer red highlighted part below…

    Please help as its urgent for me as we cannot have local installation of weblogic. We may just use the required jars.

  • In applet,how can i got the thin client jar for JMS from weblogic.jar?

    who can give it to me?
    and,when i used the weblogic.jar coming from weblogic 7sp2 for linux advance server
    2.1 as the client jar,i still got a error message that Class (.....Stub.class)is
    not found,why?What should i do?

    That approach is a hack and an absolute nightmare. It never worked
    completely. I could not get any support for durable subscriptions etc. You
    can add this (Thin JMS client) as a request for new feature (but it should
    have been available long time ago).

    Hello,
    You might want to take a look at the JMS white paper and asociated
    discussion for supporting thin clients: check the reference on:

  • Licensing of weblogic.jar?

    Just found out that our development teams use the weblogic.jar file in batch processes on machines that do not have WebLogic installed. Do this violate licensing agreement or are they okay to use in this fashion?

    Yes i agree, does someone have price list of weblogic express and weblogic sever 6.1 for single, dual & quad cpu's

  • Corrupted JAR:C:\workspace\weblogic.jar

    Hi,
    when i access these Data Source in Client. I need weblogic.jar it's taken in WebLogic Server but it's getting error while added on librarie . How I can get External weblogic.jar file plz post ..........

    Try using wlfullclient.jar instead of putting or using weblogic.jar in classpath. For any client apps that use weblogic apis, it is recommended to generate and use wlfullclient.jar. Here are the detailed links:

  • Difference between lib/weblogic.jar and ext/weblogic.jar

    What is the difference between the two files? The file length is slightly
    different. But what does it mean?
    I read that one should use lib/weblogic.jar. But why? Why not the other?
    We use Weblogic 7.1 SP 1.

  • Over-riding the class javax.faces.context.FacesContext: SUN App Server 9.1

    The method to over ride the faces context has changed between SUN Application Server 8.2 and 9.1, as a result the instructions which were previously provided on the MyFaces wiki (http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/Installation_and_Configuration) no longer work. What I am looking for is instructions that will allow me to use our own faces jars and not (javaee.jar) which is provided as part of the application server.
    What I need to do is to get Sun Application Server 9.1 to allow me to over ride the faces context /javax/faces/context/ with that from my local jars, in version 8.X the following steps were enough:
    Start 8.X instructions:
    1. Change the config security file so that MyFaces <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/MyFaces> can delete it's temporary files.
    Change permission
        java.io.FilePermission <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/FilePermission> "<<ALL FILES>>", "read,write";to
      java.io.FilePermission <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/FilePermission> "<<ALL FILES>>", "read,write,delete";2. Prevent the sun reference implementation from being used
    In your WEB-INF, create a sun-web.xml file containing
        <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
        <sun-web-app>
        <class-loader delegate="false"/>
        </sun-web-app>3. That way, myfaces classes will be loaded instead of Sun RI ones.
    And prevent MyFaces <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/MyFaces> from loading the Sun RI context listener
    By creating in your webapp a "fake"
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener
    <http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/ConfigureListener> that will be loaded BEFORE the sun RI one's.
    The war file I am making available as a test case has just such a file in my case it is called fakefaces.jar
    End instructions for 8.2
    However these steps have changed for version 9.1 as following the exact same procedures does not result in the Application Server using the correct jars, the following is a test using a simple find.jsp, notice how Application Server 9.1 is still using the default jars and not the ones shipping with included as part of my testApp.
    Within the war file is a jsp called find.jsp using this I can check which jar file file is being used for any class in my case I'm interested in the the /javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class, in 9.1 it always uses teh copy from javaee.jar and never teh local copy:
    For example running: http://<ip address>:<port>/test/find.jsp?class=javax.faces.context.FacesContext
    Version 9.1 returns: file:/u01/software/Apps/SunAppServer9.1/lib/javaee.jar!/javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class
    Version 8.2 returns: file:/u01/software/Apps/SunAppServer8.2/domains/domain1/applications/j2ee-apps/TestApp/test_war/WEB-INF/lib/myfaces-api.jar!/javax/faces/context/FacesContext.class
    Hence 9.1 is still using the copy provided by SUN and not our copy.
    The code for find.jsp is:
    <%
        String className = request.getParameter("class");
        Class theClass;
        try
            theClass = Class.forName(className);
            java.net.URL url = theClass.getResource("/" + theClass.getName().replace('.', '/') + ".class");
            out.println(url.getFile());
        catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
            // TODO Auto-generated catch block
            out.println(e);
    %>-------------------------------------------------
    Any idea how to over-ride the FacesContext class in version 9.1 to allow for similar functionality as 8.X
    Thanks,
    ERIC GANDT

    Alright, I've narrowed it down to my Customization Class. I attempted to have my customization class PortalCC in a JAR file, excluded it from the WAR file and added the JAR in the lib directory of the EAR file, as described on:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e16272/deploy_java_ee_app.htm#CHDGGFEB
