Using Address Book for mailing labels

I know how to use the address book for mailing labels, but when I went to print I had children's names appear on the labels. Is there a way to request souces, but not children. In other words can you select specific information to appear on the labels. Or do you have to go into address book and delete the kids names. Any advice would be great.

There are several 3rd-party applications which will print mailing labels from your address book data and give you greater control of what is printed.
Roll Call Directory and Imprint have both been mentioned.
I don't know how they handle linked cards, so if you try either you might let us know.

  • How do I see a list of all my Apple Mail contacts. I do not use address book. I just want to see all the email addresses stored on my Mac

    Hi All,
I have been using Mail for the past three years without need to send a regular mailing list mailout.
I now need to send group emails and all I want to do is browse my contacts aquired over the last three years to create a list. I have not used Address Book for anything other than phone contacts so please do not point me in that dirrection.
There must be a list of all email contacts stored somewhere on the Mac that I can look through. It is an almost impossible task to do this by browsing my inbox/sent folders.
Hope you can help and thanks in advance!

  • Using Address Book as a Rock-solid business database?

My address book loses entire GROUPS.
MY wife and I sync Address Book of our business and personal contacts via MobilMe across our two Mac Desktops, our 2 Macbook pros, our iphones and an ipad. Somehow the Address Book data gets corrupted enough so that groups disappear every few months. It's very frustrating. We'll fix it and a few months later it happens again.
Address Book is the preferred database for our business contacts because of how easy syncing is and how it's so easily built within OSX. But the corruption drives us crazy. If you use Address Book for business are you NOT having this problem? Please only answer if you've been using it for a while. If I just started with address book I wouldn't have seen the problem.
We often fix it, then upload the fixed Address Book data to Mobil Me and then make sure it replaces all our data on the computers, iphones and iPad.
Is Bento an answer? Bento syncs with Address Book which is GOOD because I want access to the database everywhere. And it's BAD because this will probably happen again as Address Book syncs across the various devices.
For business contacts, what do you use so that it's more rock solid with your data? Thanks in advance.

  • Opt in Page using Address Book

Does anyone know if I could create an opt In page using Address book for my blog? Thanks. I'm new to MacBook Pro.

You'll probably need to write an AppleScript or Automator workflow to process the information from your source to Address Book. How easy this will be will depend on how the information is processed from your blog and stored (i.e. in a database of some sort, just emailed to you, etc.) Unless someone else knows of prepackaged software I don't, this probably isn't going to be simple to accomplish.
Since this isn't related to your Mac hardware, you might get more suggestions if you ask in the AppleScript forum.
    Regards.

  • Using address book to print mailing labels

    Hi all
I am trying to print mailing labels using the addresses in my address book. In the past, I had a PC and was able to put in a title such as "The Smith Family" and it would be simply applied to all labels by exporting only the last name and of course the address. How do I do this using address book?
Thanks so much for your tips.

Here's a way to get somewhat similar behavior. Hopefully you can adjust it to get the best result.
1 - Select a card that you want to print
2 - Choose the Card > Add Field > Related Names menu item. If that menu item is grayed out, you can just press the Edit button
3 - Find the related names fields in the card. They have default labels of "friend" and "assistant". Click on one of the labels and change it to "spouse"
4 - In the field for the spouse label, type "Family" for example
5 - Press Edit to close the editor and save the card, then print
Now the envelope or label will be addressed "Bill Gates and Family".

  • Address Book and Mail - Using Groups for e-mail

I've noticed something strange about Mail and Address Book in Tiger:
I created a new Group in Address Book. The Group contains people who are involved in a project. I have names, home addresses and phone numbers for eveyone, but a few people do not have e-mail. When a try using this Group to send out an e-mail message, Mail warns me that John Smith does not appear to have a valid e-mail address. I can't send the message unless I select only those in the group who have e-mail addresses and only send to them. This is a pain.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in Tiger's Address Book and Mail.app? How can I get around this? I have several Groups like this that contain entries with no e-mail.

It's not a bug in Address Book, it's a limitation. Your only way to get around that is to either remove those from the group, or give them all the same email address; i.e., send those to you so you are reminded that they didn't get the email and you have to notify them some other way.
And of course, when sending to more than one person, never put the recipients in the To or CC field; they should always go in the BCC field.

  • Label Printing Using Address Book - How can I Print multiple labels of the same name?

Label Printing Using Address Book - How can I Print multiple labels of the same name?

I used to be able to print multiple copies of the same picture on one page using iphoto. There was a customise button when you went through to print and it was there somewhere. I can't see it anymore - maybe since an upgrade.
It's gone. But as a work-around, duplicate your photo (⌘D) to create as many versions as you want copies and select all at once. Then use the "Custom" print layout and set the photo size you want.
After printing, trash the added versions.

  • Using address book to share mobile me gallery

Have new ilife and do not know if i can use address book to share my mobileme gallery! Help

    Hi aksmitty99,
    Welcome to AppleWorks Discussions.
Peggy is correct saying "...click on Style drop-down menu & choose Mailing Labels...". Yes, that is exactly where it is.
Perhaps you see the small print dialog window. If so, look to the right of the printer name, there you will see a single twisty (upside down triangle) pointing down. Click it, you'll now have more print options available for you. There in you will see the Style drop down list; choose Mailing Labels.
    Hope this helps.
    Cordially,
    RicD

  • Address book and dymo label writer

    Hi there,
I've come across the following problem while trying to print labels from my Dymo. With the help of a tip from 'the divining ape' somewhere on the discussions forum I am able to print to my Dymo printer with the help of some custom shipping label settings.
However I can't seem to print the organization name and the persons name. It will only print the top line and the address field below.
So I get or the persons name and the address or the company name and the address. This is not very practical because often one needs the both on an address label.
And since I don't like working with the Dymo software (no searchfunction, and no company recognistion) I would really like to work only with Address book.
Has anyone got a solution or work-around for this?
Or is there a dymo plugin somewhere?

    Dear Mulder:
I have a Dymo Label Writer Twin Turbo, with Dymo 30252 labels loaded on the left and 30915 (stamps) loaded on the right. I would like to use address book to print mailing labels on the 30252 and can't seem to configure it correctly (read here I am not pleased with the software from Dymo).
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Separate address book for my wife and I

I reently switched to Mac and this is driving me crazy. I would like to keep our computer under one user so we don't have to switch user profiles to access her address book or if I update and address in my book, it doesn't get updated in hers. But, when I go to address e-mails I don't want her huge list of names being auto-suggested and me having to sift through all of her addresses in order to find the people I want to address the email to. The question: Is there a way to keep all of our addresses in one address book (one user profile), but when I am logged into my mail, Mail knows to only look in MY address group for the email addresses I specify, instead of pulling up my wife's rediculous sized (and often unorganized) bunch of addresses. I don't want to accidentally slip up with the arrow keys and add one of her recipients to an outgoing email. Sometimes my wife's friends wouldn't appreciate emails that guys send to each other if you know what I mean...
Thanks for any help...and please tell me there is a way to separate my wifes email address book from mine...please tell me Mac thought of this.
PS I've tried the whole 2 user profiles thing and the idea of seperate address books for updating sake and other reasons, I'd like to try the single profile thing.

I thought Mac would be better with their mail client than this.
But Mail has nothing to do with this at all. Address Book is a completely separate application, and it's that way for good reason; it's not merely a whim.
I can't imagine what Mac is thinking that if a family of 5 uses the family computer, that all 5 people's email addresses clog up the search for the person writing the email at the time.
Each user has a separate Address Book (and other applications like Mail and Safari) to keep that exact scenario from happening, as well as to keep people out of each other's accounts so things don't go missing, private emails aren't being read by overly curious people, and so your account doesn't get screwed up by someone else playing with things they shouldn't be touching.
Are there any third party apps or plugins I can download in order to tell Mail that when I am in my account to only search for the contacts in a certain group that I create?
Sorry, but there's no such things available. It would be impossible for your Mac to become sentient and know what you created versus someone else creating.

  • Microsoft Exchange Categories in iCal, Address Book and Mail

I work in a Microsoft environment with my MacBook Pro and would like to use iCal, Address Book and Mail as my default applications rather than Microsoft Oulook 2011, however, there is not support for the Microsoft Exchange Categories to be replicated into the various Apple applications. This results in my address book not to differentiate any longer from my contact categories stored on the Exchange server, nor my calendar. Categories can be created in iCal and other Apple applications but it then requires for the event or contact to be duplication "On my Mac" which makes me loose my synchronization with other systems. Any idea about to fix that?

Same issue here. I would love to migrate to iCal but the lack of support for categories is a limiting factor. Same applies to Contacts.

  • How can I sync the address book from Mail to my Address book?

Ok, I open a new message and click on the Address Book icon in the new message to find my contacts on the address book, I choose the group I am looking for and the group has people on it that I have already deleted from my address book! How can I sync the address book from Mail to my Address book?

It is using the same database on disk. You may have to re-launch Mail.

  • Using Address Book Exporter to move Address Book Contacts to Palm Desktop

I have had strangely mixed results using "Address Book Exporter" to create files that can be imported into Palm Desktop.
I really want to export all 1200 of my Address book cards to my new Treo 700P. Too complex?
I set up a new group in my Address Book and placed about 400 cards in it. I then used Address Book Exporter to export all of these records using template "Palm Desktop" onto a .txt file on my hard drive.
When I opened my Palm Desktop application and clicked on import, I first had to cause the dialogue box to show all files rather than just "readable files" in order for the exported files to be available. When I clicked on the file of 400 Address book cards that I had exported, I got the dialogue box similar to FileMaker where you have to line up the receiving fields in the Palm Desktop application with the fields in the file that Address Book Exporter created.
When I set the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop", everything just lined up automatically. No futher adjustments were needed. I just clicked OK and the 400 records were transferred to my Palm Desktop Address list - ready to further transfer to my new Treo 700P - successfully.
But when I went through this exact same routine, instead exporting all of the cards in my Address book, when I got to the last step and set the two drop down menus - the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop" - nothing happened. The fields in the exported file did not line up at all. The created export file I opened showed only one "superfield' with all the data in it (just as the earlier example had, at first) which would not change to all of the fields needed to line up with the Palm Desktop importing fields as had happened in the first example.
Why the two different reactions to what seems to be the same routines? Does Address Book Exporter have a cap on the size of the export it can handle?
    I just don't understand it.

  • Address books for another user sharing my computer for now

At this time I am sharing this computer with one other person ..I have set up and named another address book for them.
Is there a way that their email addresses do not get added too mine.. is there a setting where we can set it up so each one has there emails being added to their own addy book.. At the moment there emails are being added too mine... this problem will be ongoing fpr a period of time....
    Thank you in advance. :)

''re: At this time I am sharing this computer with one other person .''
Usually, when people share a computer, each user has their own User Account which they logon using a password.
This means that Thunderbird then runs in that User Account and creates a profile in that User Account which holds all the Profile data, emails, passwords, address books etc specifically for that users email address mail accounts.
So then no one can read each others emails nor access other peoples passwords and they can use their own address books.
So if you are sharing a computer and sharing a Profile, then it is advisable that you do not have any stored / remembered passwords, unless that person is eg: spouse and you do not mind them having full access to all your personal stuff.
You have a couple of Options:
'''1.''' Create User Accounts on your computer so that each user has their own User Account, Create a Thunderbird Profile folder and set up mail accounts storing personal emails and address books.
This is the only method offering best security.
'''2. ''' Create another Profile for the other person. then create mail account for that Profile. This will then have it's own folders, address book.
Use Profile Manager to create another Profile.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
Make sure to uncheck the box 'Don't ask at startup' to force it to ask which Profile to use.
Any user can still access any profile.
    '''3. ''' In current situation.
Stop auto saving outgoing email addresses that are not in the address books as this uses only one setting per Profile.
Tools > Options > Composition > Addressing tab
uncheck: 'Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my'
    click on OK
Then you would need to use an Addon in order to be able to select a specific address book when you wish to add the email address/contact to an address book. At the moment, if you click on the FROM header email address or right click and select 'Add to address book', this adds to the default address book called 'Personal Address Book'. This you cannot change because you are using the same User account and Profile.
    But with the addon 'MorefunctionforAddressBook'
Right click on eg: From header and choose > Save recipients addresses' > as Contacts
This allows you to select the address book you require.
    Addon 'MorefunctionforAddressBook':
    * https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
    Download to desktop.
    In Thunderbird:
    Tools > Addons
    Clickon on gear wheel icon and select : Install addon from file;
locate file you downloaded and click on Open
You may need to restart Thunderbird.

  • Address Book and Mail Lag on openning

I just installed Snow Leopard and now my Address Book and Mail hang for 10 mins before they start. And when I try and manipulate the Address book that lags before the operation completes, I thought SL was suppose to make things better? Somebody PLEASE HELP! This problem is happening on both my IMAC and Macbook. I also use Mobile Me.

Known issue with Smart Groups in Address Book...it's not Mail.
Delete all Smart Groups in Address Book and it will fix the problem for both...it takes a long time to do since you get the spinning beach ball when you click on anything in Address Book, so give yourself about an hour.
There are other threads about the issue...hopefully it will be fixed in an update...good luck!
