Using alternative display names on one email alias

Sometimes I'd like send email using one display name (ie "Mr. Happy") and sometimes with another ("Mr. and Mrs. Very Happy"), both using the same email account. Is there a way to set that up without creating a duplicate account? Thought I'd seen a reference, but can't find it now...

I have not been managing aliases, so I'm wondering how to load the db and edit it. This is my first mail server and my first email setup for osx so I'm a newbie.
I've found the following resources:

But I'm a little lost as to how to edit the configuration file, and I'm a bit lost on where it is. I've found a file titled "aliases.db" within the /etc folder that I have opened with a text editor. It lists some of the email addresses in my company, but there's also some garbled information in it. So I believe this is the file I would need to edit, but I'm not sure.
Can you please give me a little more help as to how to edit this file and reload it? I really appreciate it.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to change display name of workflow email address in sharepoint 2010.
In my environment, if I assign a task to a user, the email is as below:
The “test” is the site name, the [email protected] is the “From” user.
Do you want to change the “From” field in the workflow?
If so, you can have a look at the "Send email extended" custom SPD workflow activity (http://www.codeplex.com/SPDActivities
) which allow you to specify the sender.

Setting Display Name for sent emails

Hi All,
I want to set a display name for sent emails. For example: when I send emails using [email protected] and after receivign this amil in my inbox it says from [email protected] Is there any way that I can show display name for this like Kartik <[email protected]>.
is there any API by which I can set this display name? Or this has to be done on mail server?

it asks for a attribute messageFrom and passes it to SMTPTransport. I have tried setting different values for messageFrom like
messageFrom=Test Email
messageFrom="Test Email"
but it didn't work for me. it expects a domain name there (even if its dummy) like
messageFrom=[email protected]
Can you tell me at which place InternetAddress is been called by SMTPTransport so that I can write my own impl for it.

I get UMEException with the message "Role with uniqueName com.ABC.general not found"
But it works fine if i specify Role unique role (like pcd:portal_content/com.abc.Marketing_Workbench/com.abc.Roles/com.abc.general).
We are in the process of upgrading Portal environment from EP6.0 SP12 to EP7.0 SP13. Above scenario works fine in the older environment.

The authentication works well; however, Sharepoint shows the users’ email everywhere including at the top right suite-bar. I rather to see users’ display name instead of email. Is there any way to have SharePoint shows user’s display name instead of email
address when the primary SAML claim is email address?

Cannot search EAC by Display Name - Must search by Alias

My company is slowly migrating users from E2k7 to E2k13.
We have noticed on several occasions that room resources that are on E2k13 can only be found in EAC when we search by their Alias. We absolutely cannot search by a display name.
However on some rooms we can search by the display name.
Any known issue here? Or anyone experience this?

We can search the rooms by using Alias, if they also working well, then it seems the migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 complete successfully.
Did someone rename the display names? It needs some time to cover the modification.
Please also get mailbox via display names to verify whether we input the correct display names.
Command as below:
Get-Mailbox DisplayName
If everything going well except the "searching via display name on some users", I suggest intalling the CU3 or SP1. The Exchange 2013 SP1 will release in a short time later.

HT4479 I have an Apple ID that's not an email, and I have been told it needs to be an email address. I change it to my email address and it says my email is already in use. I only have one email address. I don't want to create a second email address.

I have an email account and they want me to use my (same) email account name as my Apple ID. When I do it says my email is already in use. Is Apply suggesting I need to create a second email address?

How can I get Sender Display Name using Get-MessageTrackingLog?

Hi, could you please help me. We have got a monitoring system at work which monitors some devices, so if something wrong happening with these devices email is sent from MASTER email (Customer Name <[email protected]>) to us. I'm trying to get a list
of all emails of that monitoring mailbox using PoweShell command
Get-MessageTrackingLog and export them to CSV file. In the end of the day I need CSV file with 3 columns: TimeStamp, MessageSubject and SenderDisplayName! Yes, I need Sender Display Name cause all emails are sent from one MASTER email
(Customer Name <[email protected]>) and only difference between them is sender Display Name which is cexactly what I need.
This is the code I'm using:

The DisplayName is not recorded in the Logs only the EmailAddresses are so there Is nothing you can do with Message Tracking to get this the way you want. You need to look at another property may soureIP or include something in the Subject
of the Email (eg a customerId in the Subject is a much better option) to give you some differentiation. Otherwise you need to access the Email directly from the Mailbox it was sent to and then extract the DisplayName from the message (or use a journaling
on those emails etc)

Query Builder not locating emails based on email address, only the display name will work.

I am trying to set up some search folders for Outlook 2010 for emails either to or from a specific domain name. I am using the Query Builder to set up the logic for the search criteria.
Here's an example of what I am trying to do.
I have three people from a specific company that I want all emails I either send them or they send me to go to. Their email address are as follows:
Jane Doe <[email protected]>
John Doe <[email protected]>
Mary Smith <[email protected]>
Here is the issue I am having. When I set up the criteria for the search folder, entering From --> Contains --> [email protected] (or any of the other addresses mentioned above) will return no results. Entering From ---> Contains
--> companyxyz.com will yield no results. Only entering From ---> Contains --> Jane Doe will yield any results.
If I use the From field in the standard Messages Tab of the Search Folder Criteria window then just entering companyxyz.com will give me all the messages. The problem that I have is that I cannot set up any OR conditionals with this standard field
which is why I am using the Query Builder.
My question is why doesn't the actual email address work for a search criteria in Query Builder and how can I set up a criteria for a domain name (@companyxyz.com) so that I can see all communication with a particular company?

This is the expected behavior of Outlook.
The Search Folder Criteria dialog has two From fields. One From field is under Messages tab and another From field is under the Advanced (or Query Builder) tab. The From field under Message tab uses email address while
the From field under Advanced or Query Builder tabs uses the display name. So, when we want to use Query Builder to create a Search folder that filters by email address, the Query Builder ignores the email address and uses the display name instead.

How to alter my display name when sending from an alias?

When sending emails from my iphone, using an alias, I've noticed that it sends it using my real name. This defeats the purpose of using an alias!
When I send it from my Mac using the mail app, or from icloud on the web, it uses the name I've designated for the alias, but this is not the case on my phone.
How can I get the mail app on my iphone to use the display name I've designated for the alias?

Just go to icloud.com and click the gear in the top right corner (Preferences). Then go to the "accounts" tab and click on the alias you are trying to use and then when it comes up, insert the name you would like to use. If there's any more questions you have, just reply.

How do I change my display name in outgoing emails? I have 3 email accounts and want each to have its own name. In Mail - Preferences I don't see the display names for the accounts. OS X 10.9.1.

How to add Distribution Group email alias from CSV in office 365

Hope someone can help me troubleshoot this or even let me know if its not possible. But, I used powershell to import distribution groups and set primary emails in Office 365. That worked great, but we have two domains and i would like to add an email alias
to all my DGs for the other domain.
This was my best attempt and its not going well:

$_.Name is the column name for my DGs. IE: DL-IT

$_.SecondarySmtpAddress is the column name for my email alias. IE: [email protected]

Based on my understanding, the below code should work when your manually run it:
Set-DistributionGroup "DL-accounting"
-EmailAddresses SMTP:<Primary Email>,<Alias Email>
If all those distribution groups have been already created, then use set-distributiongroup command should work. How about first new those distribution group, and then run foreach block to do the loop.

Why does the display name in older messages change if I update my address book for that E-mail address?

I have recently installed Thunderbird 24.5.0 after upgrading a WinXP machine to Win7. I have discovered a strange problem with older mail that was imported from Outlook Express 6.
The pastor of my church uses a generic E-mail address <[email protected]>. This address belongs to the position, not to an individual. We recently had a new pastor come to the church, and I updated my entry for this E-mail address to reflect the new person's name. This is fine for new mail sent since the new person arrived, but Thunderbird has also applied the new name to older mail from the previous pastor. This is very confusing, since the current pastor could not have sent mail from that address prior to her start date.
How can I get Thunderbird to stop changing the Display Name in archival messages that were sent by the previous pastor prior to September 01, 2013? I have not encountered this situation before using Netscape 4.x Mail, Outlook Express 6, and Windows Mail (Vista version).

Of course it does. It looks for a match between the sender's email address and a Contact in your address book. You've edited the Display Name for this account so it gets applied to any message with that email address if that's how your Address Book is configured.
In the Contact card for this address, you can tell it whether or not to use the "real" email address within the message, or the Display Name from your Address Book. Telling it to use the name found in the message ''might'' resolve this, but it depends on how the sender has formatted it. If he includes his name then Thunderbird should be able to resolve it, and you just add both configurations to your Address Book as two separate Contacts, rather than modifying the existing entry.
However, in this situation you're using the same email address for two distinct people, so Thunderbird may not be able to know who sent the old messages. If both have sent using "rector@stpeterscobourg.org" without any personalization then Thunderbird won't be able to differentiate between them.
I have to say that I haven't recently tried using different display names with the same email address, so I don't know for sure if TB can use the display name constructively. If there's nothing in the old messages to tell you which sender wrote them, then TB can't do anything about it.

Support for "Display Name"

While sending the mail using javax.mail, do we have any way to specify the "Display Name" for an email i.e. I want to specify the display name for an email apart from "From" email address. I don't want to see the email address as the "From" entity...it should have a name (under which obviously there will be an email address).
