Using an embedded driver instead of client, and refreshing JList

I am finishing up a simple database interface program that I need to do in order to graduate. There are a couple issues I need to address.
1. This program is meant to be on one computer with one connection to a database. Currently, when I build the program and run the .jar file, it will not work unless I have manually started the server in Netbeans. Once the server is on, it works like a champ. But since I have to send this to my professor it must work without him doing any additional setup. For this I figured I could use the embeddedDriver, but unfortantely I cant get that to work.
In netbeans I can right click on the main database icon and select "New Connection" and i have the option of choosing the embedded driver yet when i put the database name in and the user and password it gives me the
error: "Unable to add connection. Cannot establish a connection to jdbc:derby:MaxxTrax using org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver (Database 'MaxxTrax' not found).
Why is it that I can use the client driver without a problem yet not the embedded one? And if I cant use the embedded one, how can I set up the client driver so it will automatically start the server (does the end user need to have the server installed or will the clean and build do that)?
2. Using the netbeans gui builder, i created a jList that I bound to my database's name query. I then have multiple textFields that i bound to whatever jList selection there is and tell it to update with the specified data. My problem is, that I cannot get the jList to "refresh". Right now when I add somebody to the database it visually writes over another persons record, but doesn't actually delete record. So if i could just figure out how to make it look at the database again I could do it automatically after entering in a new record. I've tried nameList.validate(), updateUI() and even tried to copy the ide generated code that actually binds the data but no go.
Once I get these two little things taken care of I am done!! Please help, its greatly appreciated.

I'm not getting much help out there.....anyone??
I need to make the database seem invisible to the end user application.
When I try to use an embedded driver I keep getting errors. In netbeans, I can see the "Java DB(Embedded)" link under drivers, and when I hit connect using.. I input all the correct data and it gives me the following error:
Error: Unable to add connection. Cannot establish a connection to jdbc:derby:MaxxTrax using org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver (Database 'MaxxTrax' not found).
Under the Database setting the pointer for the java db installation and database location are correct. Why can't I connect using the embedded driver, cause using that would make my life so much easier for a single application.

  • Is it possible to bypass Domain Controller Promotion (dcpromo) Hard Drive Check? My Server has an embedded drive instead of a SATA port. (emmc)

I have a small computer with just an embedded drive instead of a sata port. It seemed perfect for a small domain controller, since it has 32G's which is more than enough space, and with a gigabit Ethernet, and 1.6Ghz dual core cpu, seemed more than enough
    for what I needed.
Windows 2012, or Windows Server Technical Preview, both install fine on it, but when I run dcpromo to create the domain It fails on selecting the location for files. The error is that the path is not a hard drive. The machine only has USB ports so I can't
add a SATA drive just to store these logs/configs, even if I wanted to.
The actual computer I was trying to use: http://www.ecs.com.tw/LIVA/
    Thanks for any help.

On the Windows Server Technical Preview,
    Install-ADDSForest -SkipPreChecks -DomainName DOMAIN.CONTOSO.COM -DomainMode Win2008 -ForestMode Win2008R2 –DatabasePath "C:\Windows\NTDS" –SYSVOLPath "C:\Windows\NTDS" –LogPath "C:\Windows\NTDS\Logs"
gives me the error "No NTFS 5 drives exit." (note exit, not exist)
I'll reinstalling windows 2012 and see if I get a different message there.
This was just a standard install, so the drive is definitely NTFS.

  • How to use multiple tape drive from single client when I want to backup single filesystem?

    Hello All.
I want to backup 1 filesystem using 4 tape drives for reducing backup time.
In case of symantec veritas netbackup, they can user "NEW_STREAM" for multi-streaming backup.
Please anybody let me know that how to do use multiple tape drive for single client.
    1. Backup Source server : Linux (1 client)
    2. Backup Soucre :      /data1  (500GB)
-> Current directory structure doesn't have sub directory under /data1, just files present under /data1
If direcotry struceture has a sub-direcotry like( /data1/aaa, /data1/bbb ), Is it availble to use multiple tape drives?
    3. Tape Drive with OSB : LTO6 * 4 drives
    Thank you.

You would have to create a different dataset for each sub-folder. If you only have files at the top level folder then even the NEW_STREAM option couldn't be used to split the job.
Organise it into folders and then create datasets in a client folder such as :
    /usr/local/oracle/backup/admin/config/dataset/Linux/data1_aaa
    /usr/local/oracle/backup/admin/config/dataset/Linux/data1_bbb
Then in the schedule you just specify the Linux folder. In each dataset you list the hostname and the folder name, such as :
    include host Linux
    include path /data1/aaa
Now it will create a new job for each dataset and therefore each folder.
    Thanks

  • Can I use an external drive for Time Machine and storing other data?

At the moment I have one external drive, a 500gb LaCie. My internal drive is 160gb. I don't think I'll be using all 500 of those gigabytes for a while, so I want to put them to good use. Can I make a partition on this drive and use that for Time Machine, leaving the rest of the drive for my documents and other files? If so, how would I partition the drive? I'm not fluent in Disk Utility and even though I'm pretty sure I know how to do it, I don't want to screw up. Also, how big a partition would you recommend?
While we're here, I have a second question, somewhat relevant to the first. Could I move my Time Machine backups to a second drive if I wanted to? Also, if I used a big drive (say 1tb) could I use Time Machine to backup my current LaCie to a partition on that drive? Thanks in advance.

    videoCWK wrote:
Does that also mean that I could back them both up on a very big drive?
Yes. Time Machine will, by default, back up all of your external drives unless you specifically exclude them.
Also, will Time Machine backups eat all my space after a lot of usage?
It depends on what you do on your Mac. If you work often with very large files (video editing, heavy photo editing, big disk images, Microsoft Entourage data file, Parallels disk image file, etc) then your backup drive could fill up very quickly.
I use my Mac mostly for e-mail, web browsing, iTunes, iPhoto, and the occasional iMovie project. I have 92 GB on my main hard drive (60 GB of which are my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and one iMovie project.) My Time Machine backups consume 155GB on my backup drive, and that's after using Time Machine for a full year.

  • Using an External Drive for Time Machine and Other Things

I have a 2TB external drive which I use for Time Machine Backups on my 2 macs. The macs have HDs of 500GB and 160GB so the external drive has ample space for backups.
Is it okay to use the external drive for other things that I don't care if they aren't backed up (like digital copies of DVDs)? i.e. Will Time Machine cause any issues if a drive is used for more than just Time Machine backups?

Maybe. See #1 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

It's best to put such things in their own partition. See #3 in the FAQ.
You may also want to make separate partitions for each Mac's backups, if you're backing-up either one directly (ie, not over your network). See #4 in the FAQ.

  • Should I combine two 1Tb drives into one logical 2Tb drive or use one 1Tb drive for system/apps and move /users to the other 1Tb drive?  (I'd like ease of b/u too.)

    Hello,
I have two 1Tb drives in my Mini, the first is full and the second one empty.  (I've been using the 2nd for Time Machine but the full source from dirve 1 soon has Time Machine complaining.)  I am contemplating whether to form one 2Tb logical drive from the two 1Tb drives or segregate their use, i.e. use the first 1Tb drive to hold the system and applications while moving the /users directory tree to the second 1Tb drive?
I'm assuming both are straight forward to do accomplish but have nagging doubts about segregating drive usage, will moving the /users directory tree to the second 1Tb drive:
    impact apps which might otherwise expect to see particulat fies and directories in specific user related locations on the system drive;
hinder backing up (by having to setup two separate Time Machine activities)?
Finally, is there a better 3rt option?
    Thanks,

    Thanks and sorry Allan,
The supplementary questions would arise should I NOT chose to combine the separate drives into a larger logical one but to keep one of the two drives for system/apps and the other for users data...  I assumed that segregating drive usagel like this might reult in issues with apps which might expect to see some user directories/files on the same drive as the system/apps.  similarly, with two physical drives, I'd be looking to managing separate Time Mchines.  (I have a few 2Tb pocket drives for backups.)
Final question - if I do combine into a single logical drive (for system, apps, /users ... the whole lot), would I have any problem getting this logical one working from a Time Machine backup?  I ask that this backup was taken from the 1Tb physical drive and now I'd be looking to put it back onto a 2Tb logicl drive.
    Thanks,

  • Using external hard drive with both iMac and PC

I own an old Dell PC and an iBook, and will soon replace the Dell with an iMac.
I recently bought a 250GB Western Digital external hard drive to back up my data. I would like to use this hard drive to back up all of the files that are on the PC (which I will soon be getting rid of) and also use it for backing up the files on the iBook and, when it arrives, the iMac. In other words, neatly back up all my info onto the back-up drive.
My question is this: can I do this? If not, what is the best way to consolidate all of the data from all of these computers into one place? Will the fact that some data comes from a PC and some from a Mac be a problem? Can you move back-up drives fromone computer to another? The photos on my PC are saved in Picasa, whereas the photos on the iBook are in iTunes. My iPod music files are all on the PC in iTunes.
Any advice about backing all this stuff up in a user friendly way would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I have heard that there are ways to reformat external drives, to partition them, and to "raid" them. Can someone explain what this all means?
    Thanks.
    iBook G4

    Hello,
Your best option would be to store the files from your PC on the drive with the drive in the FAT32 format. Then, copy the files to your Mac's Internal hard drive.
Now, once the files are stored safely on your Mac's internal hard drive, you can safely reformat the external drive as a Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) drive. That will be the best format to use for long-term purposes with your Mac.
Many OS X file types (such as many PKG files) cannot be stored / written to a FAT32 volume. So, a FAT32 drive would not be suitable for backing-up an entire OS X hard drive (or even many of the system updates that you might download).
So, that's how I'd do it. Use the drive as a FAT32 just long enough to get the files moved to your Mac.
Once the drive is re-formatted in the Native Mac format, then you could copy the files back to it, and any other Mac files that you wanted to back-up to it for safe-keeping.
Personally, I would re-partition it in at least two pieces on the Mac. One to hold data / personal files for safe-keeping, and a second bootable partition for a full system / OS X backup.
You can read a bit more about this in some of my previous discussions here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2536703&#2536703
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2597825&#2597825
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2632566&#2632566
Read through each of those three discussions and you'll see how they all come together and provide you with a good solution for backing-up your hard drive.
I hope you don't mind my linking you to those other discussions, but it just seemed more practical than re-typing what I had already said all over again
Also, if you are getting one of the new Intel iMac systems, and you want to be able to create a bootable backup as described in those posts, be sure to format your external hard drive using the new GUID format. That will provide you with the best solution.
    I hope this helps.

  • 2 user accounts using 1 iCloud drive account, different folders and files for each user.

I have two user accounts on my Mac. One for work and one for personal use.
They both share my iCloud and iCloud drive account. My issue is that when I update the files in my work account the changes do not take place when I log into my personal account on my mac.. I find this strange seeing as I am only using one account for both.
This means when I am working and make folders or rename files and folders they only appear when I view iCloud Drive from that user profile. When I try to view iCloud drive from my personal user account or other iOS devices like my phone the old changes remain.
Has anyone any ideas why this is?

Because iCloud drive is not shared between users.  Each account has it's own storage.  It is NOT shared.

  • How to use DB2 XA driver instead of default DB2 driver

    Hi,
I've been using the default DB2 driver (com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver) for a datasource until now. I need to switch to using an XA approved driver to handle some two phase commits. It appears Oracle has an XA driver for DB2 (weblogic.jdbcx.db2.DB2DataSource) but whenever I use it I get the following error:
[BEA][DB2 JDBC Driver][DB2]PROGRAM NAME NULLID.DDJU360B 0X4A44424334444232 NOT FOUND IN PLAN null
What does this error mean? How can I switch to an XA DB2 driver?
    Thanks...

    DB2 running on AIX:
    select * from sysibm.sysversions;
    7010200     2001-04-11 17:01:21.478428     WBDID04
    8020000     2005-02-01 19:55:13.083939     SYSIBM
    8020800     2007-09-08 08:16:45.496058     WBDID04
WebLogic Server 10.3 running on Windows XP.
Using the XA driver works fine for WebLogic Server 8.1 and the existing DB2 database. So, I'm wondering what went wrong when I upgraded to 10.3.
The error happens on server startup when it's trying to test the connection:
    <25-May-2010 3:28:44 o'clock PM GMT-06:00> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY1" set up for pool "csp" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLException: [BEA][DB2 JDBC Driver][DB2]PROGRAM NAME NULLID.DDJC360B 0X4A44424334444232 NOT FOUND IN PLAN null".>
    Any ideas?

  • How can I use a different driver for audio input and output?

I did a search of course, and came up with something about an aggregate. I have no idea what this is, how to do it, or if it would even work for me.
What I am trying to do is:
    1) Record into Logic Express using my Tascam US-122.
    2) Have playback come out of my computer sound system, not the Tascam.
If I go over to the Audio setup window, I can only record when the driver is set to Tascam US-122. Likewise, I can only listen to sound when my Built-In Audio is selected. It gets rather annoying going between the two.
So, would this aggregate thing solve my problem? If so, how do I do it? Thanks for any help!
    -allen

Yes it should do what you want.
Go to "Audio Midi Setup", and go to the Audio menu and click "Open Aggregate Device Editor". The interface is pretty simple but if you do get stuck, just use the help function in Audio Midi Setup, as it has a step by step guide.
Then when you return to logic, go to the Preferences>Audio>Drivers section and select Aggregate Device as the new driver rather than either the built in sound or the tascam. Then the inputs and outputs will apply to BOTH devices.

  • Any EASY, simple to use external hard drives that are PC and Mac interchangeable?

I have a new Mac Book Pro, running Mountain Lion.  I am new to Mac; my old laptop is a Dell running Windows 7.
I would like to move over ALL my pictures and files from the Dell to an external hard drive (EHD) that is also Mac-compatible.  I want all the pictures and documents SAVED and easily retrievable on the EHD, but probably don't really need *ALL* of them on the Mac.
Does anyone know of an EHD that will do this?  One that is really super easy to use and won't need "reformatted".  (I don't want to have to try to deal with that!)
I just want to put ALL my stuff from my Dell on an EHD, then move over SPECIFIC items from that EHD to my Mac.
    Any advice?  Recommendations?  THANK YOU!

    Bob,
I'm sorry, my message was unclear!  No, I'm not looking to hook up two computers at one time to one EHD.
I'm just looking to be able to use one EHD, and go back and forth between it and the Mac or Dell, getting stuff off one, and putting stuff onto the other.
I have all my old Dell files and photos already on the EHD.  I was afraid that once I formatted the EHD that those files from my Dell that were already there would somehow no longer be accessible to transfer to the Mac?  But it sounds like this isn't so?
So, to clarify: I would like to continue to have access to the files on the EHD (from the Dell).  Once I format the EHD, will those files still be accessible to me, to either leave "as is", or transfer to the Mac, now or later?
    THANK YOU!

  • Using external NAS drive for Time Machine and multiple Macs

I just installed an external NAS drive from OWC's sister company Newer Tech. It is 500g with ethernet and usb2.0 connections. It works very well with easy setup with Time Machine with no hassle.
However, in very fine print that I missed in the ad, it supports 20 computers but not for Mac only for PC. OWC customer service said I could return it but I'll keep it anyway since it works well but only for one computer at a time in read/write mode.
Anyone know of a way around this? Are there any drivers from other vendors that would allow this to be used with the multiple Macs on my home network?

Very doubtful, but even if there is a workaround, you do not want to take that kind of risk with your backups.

  • Use 2 separate drives instead of partition

If I'm using a product like VMare or bootcamp, can I set it up to run windows on a totally separate drive, rather then partition the one hard drive? Reason I'm asking, I don't run windows programs that often, but there are ones that have no Mac version. I don't want to partition a huge amount of space for another OS for the few times I use it. Can I just us an external hard drive for those times?

I still have my laptop hard drive with a full install of windows xp and all the the apps, can I just get a box to make it an external drive, and hook it up to my Mac Laptop and run windows from the Mac laptop? If so, THAT WOULD BE GREAT!

  • Surface Pro 2 tries to use word in browser instead of client in SharePoint 2010 library

    Hi -
A user came to me with a new surface pro 2 with IE 11 and Office 2013 and sadly found that document libraries would try to default open in the browser.  I do not have the word app completely configured so it is unavailable. I have a Windows 8 laptop
with IE 11 working just fine, so I am having trouble pinpointing the issue on his device.
I have checked the settings at the library level, the site collection level, as well as the farm level to assure that all areas are configured to open in client app by default.
    Has anyone ran into this?
    Thanks,

As I mentioned.  You add the second account by adding SharePoint Online as a Connected Service on the File menu in Word.  You also need to make sure that they have updated the copy of Office on the Surface from the Home and Student version.
