Using an iPhone 4 in France/prepaid card

I'm going to France in October and am trying to figure out if it's possible to buy a prepaid micro sim once I get over there. I'm looking for what carriers I should look at and what the price range will be. Anyone have ideas?

The answer is yes you can buy a Pre-Pay Sim just about anywhere in the EU, however your ATT iPhone is network locked.
Meaning ATT will let you Roam on a variety European networks , but they won't let you swap out their sim, for a local sim and allow YOU to reactivate on another network .
ATT are reticently refuse to unlock the iPhone period.

  • Can I activate my iphone with AT&T Prepaid cards

Hi.. I have a 4gb iPhone. I just wanted to know that whether I can activate my 4gb iPhone with AT&T prepaid cards or Go phone cards and still covers apple warranty?
    Anybody has ever tried it??

Apple warranty is for the hardware. It has nothing to do with the ATT calling plan. You'd need to ask ATT if you can use gophone prepaid cards for the iPhone.

  • HT1937 I used to have verizon as my phone carrier. But I don't no more. It's been more 5 months that I don't. I want to start using my iPhone 4 with a prepaid plan. Is that possible. Verizon said I'm not longer listed as their customer.

Verizon offers prepaid service on the iPhone 4. Go into your local Verizon Store with your phone. I'm sure they'll be happy to set you up with service.

  • Use of Iphone 3Gs with another SIM card

I purchased an Iphone 3Gs in France from Orange without a contract, i.e. paid the full price and therefore it should be unlocked. I now want to use it for trips and put another SIM card in it. Now after resetting it, it simply tells me that the SIM is invalid... Any suggestions?

Call Orange.  Even though it should have been unlocked, they still lock it until you ask them to unlock it.  They're obligated to unlock it, so don't let them tell you otherwise.

  • Using an iPhone 5 in France.

    To whom it may concern,
I am traveling to France in a couple of weeks and would like to buy a temporary Micro-SIM card while there for voice/txt purposes.
    1. How can I confirm that my iPhone 5 is unlocked?  There is a long list of web site that cite that all iPhone 5s ship unlocked.  Is that still the case (I got mine about 3 weeks ago).  I also called Global Services and they "confirmed" it was, but I felt the whole conversation was a bit off and didn't quite trust the answer I was getting.  The Verizon representative on the phone didn't seem quite knowledgeable about what I was asking.  I just don't want to get there and then be told that my phone is locked.
    2. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendation with any specific carriers for Micro-SIMs (Orange vs. SFR vs. Bouygues vs. Leclerc, etc...)?  I will be there for three weeks, but I do travel to France frequently (2-3 times per year).  I have never tried to get a different SIM, mainly because none of my previous phones were unlocked.
    Thank you!  Best,
    /yann

I believe the iPhone 5 is unlocked for global use.  However you should note that the iPhone 5 uses a nano-SIM card not a micro-SIM card.

  • Air Navigation Pro Using Integrated iPhone GPS without a sim card

I use Air Navigation Pro with my iphone on a passenger seat of the  plane. Integrated GPS function works  just fine without a SIM card installed, but only to a certain speed ~300 km/h or height then it can’t find any satellite at all. Can be this problem be solved with the integrated GPS?

Thanks for that, Paulfromwallasey. I live in a rural area without many cell towers and with WiFi only in my home. I do use offline maps (topographical and street maps) on my iPod Touch 4 outdoors (not needing a signal, WiFi or cellular). I also have a hand-held Garmin GPS receiver but would rather use the GPS in the iPhone (its positional accuracy, while likely being lower than that obtained from my Garmin, is likely sufficient for my needs).
I guess that one of the questions that I was asking is if I were to purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone, and the SIM card have been removed, would the device's GPS still work with GPS-enabled apps (albiet without the cellular-assist)?
Can any pay-as-you-go SIM card be purchased for and used in a deactivated iPhone4? Would this even be necessary for the GPS?
    Thanks again.

  • Can I use my iPhone in France?

I will be going to Paris in a few day and want to use my iPhone while I am there.  Is there anything special I need to do to use my iPhone while in France?  For example: Do I need to shut off data and/or if I shut off data can I still use iMessage, email and FaceTime if I am on WI-FI???  Do I need to purchase and install a French SIMM card, when I land in Paris.  Any tips on where to buy SIMM cards in France will be helpful.  I will be in France for a month.  Any help you can provide will be appreciated.  Thanks

You can only use a local French carrier sim if your existing carrier has unlocked your iPhone (GSM )
or you have a CDMA iPhone where you can use a non US carrier sim once agreed with your existing carrier
Note All Europe is GSM ,CDMA does not exist
The French are  quite picky about selling PAYG sims to non residents so you will need full identification to purchase and I would recommend if you follow this route you  purchase at one of the French Carriers stores ,not a "corner store "
Here is a list of Carriers approved by Apple
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
and you will need a pin converter for the charger, a standard European   twin round pin

  • I have a iPhone 4 which was on Verizon. I now want to start using it on Walmart Family Mobile. I know I have to get it jail broke but people are telling me that I can't use it as it has no sim card slot. Is there a way of getting around this problem?

How can I use a iPhone 4 without the sim card slot on Walmart family mobile?

The Verizon iPhone 4 is a CDMA only phone. It is not physically possible to use it on a GSM network. It doesn't have the right parts. Also, we can't discuss jailbreaking here.
    Best of luck.

  • Can I use a $10 prepaid card from Walmart for unlimited texting on the iPhone 5?

I want an iPhone 5g SUPER bad! I was wondering if I can just pay for the Walmart prepaid cards that are Verizon and $10 and gives you unlimited texting. (Note: I'm only 15.) So, it has to be cheap because I don't think I can make up about $100 in a week. Yeah most of you are probably thinking have your parents pay for it! Be there, asked that. And just what I get each time? A NOO and a smile and a nod. So please come up with a cheap answer.(: So, could I just go to Walmart, get a $10 Verizon prepaid card for unlimited texting each month, and yeah... Have no problem or do I have to spend thousands of dollars each week? Thanks for your answers and remember since I'm only 15... It has to be cheap cause I'm the one whose more than likely paying for it all by myself.. Thanks. (And please make your answer give me a smile!!!) like this -> :'D

    1. Yes, you can go right now and use a GSM SIM card in your Verizon iPhone 5.  Note that you will have a different phone number when you do this.
You are not using a SIM card for CDMA in the US.  The SIM card in the device is used for LTE in the US.
CDMA and GSM are different types of cellular technology.
    2. If you are still under contract, then you would need to be the ETF (Early Termination Fee) for your account.  Then you would simply need to get whatever SIM card you desire for service in China.

What Happens if My Postpay Service Is Canceled Before the End of My Contract Term?
If you're signing up for Postpay Service, you're agreeing to subscribe to a line of Service either on a month–to–month basis or for a minimum contract term, as shown on your receipt or order confirmation.  (If your Service is suspended without billing, that time doesn't count toward completing your contract term.) Once you've completed your contract term, you'll automatically become a customer on a month–to–month basis for that line of Service. If you cancel a line of Service, or if we cancel it for good cause, during its contract term, you'll have to pay an early termination fee.  If your contract term results from your purchase of an advanced device, your early termination fee will be $350 minus $10 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. Otherwise, your early termination fee will be $175 minus $5 for each full month of your contract term that you complete.  Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month's billing cycle, and you are responsible for all charges incurred until then.  Also, if you bought your wireless device from an authorized agent or third–party vendor, you should check whether they charge a separate termination fee.

No, the iTunes card is only valid in the country where it is sold...and you must be physically in that country to use it.

  • I have an iPhone 4, which is on 3(UK) network, I want to use this phone with a SFR sim card is possible just to switch sim cards. 3 UK to SFR

I have ordered an iPhone 5 (YIPEE) to use on 3 (UK), I would like to use my old iPhone 4 on SFR (France), currently using it on 3 (UK). Would I be able too just swap my sim card I have at the moment, on 3 (UK) for a SFR (France) sim card or is there something I need to do to make that happen? What would that be?
I would really appreciate any advice.

You need to unlock your iPhone with 3 to use it with other microSIMs. Check their website to see what the process is.

  • If i buy iphone 5 from the usa can i take it back and use it with my UK O2 sim card and how much will a 16gb iphone 5 cost

    Hi,
if i buy iphone 5 from the usa can i take it back and use it with my UK O2 sim card and also how much will a 16gb iphone 5 cost in the usa?
    thanks
    Andy

    hi there,
you could buy it somewhere in Europe. I know Apple sells them unlocked here in Germany and if I am not mistaken also (among others) in France and Italy.
Yet, as Peter wrote, the warranty can become a problem. Not sure whether a one country only rule goes for the European Community as well though.
As for the price, the 16 GB model costs 679,- € (equals roughly 550 £). Currently there is an average delivery time of 4 to 5 weeks.
LTE connections will not work with Orange or Vodafone. Only EE is about to offer a compatible LTE network. DC-HSPA and regular HSPA+ will work fine.
    regards, Chris
