Using aquamace and X11

I have just managed to set up aquamacs to my liking, I like the total customisability.
Anyway, I was playing around remotly logging onto my work computer. I would like to remotly log on and use aquamacs on my local computer to edit files on the remote machine. How can I set it up to so this?
I also noticed that root uses emacs that comes Mac OSX, is there a way to change this too?
Thanks

I rolled back to an older version of GIMP,
So which versions have you tried? Which package are you using? (There are various pre-packaged versions of GIMP for OS X from different groups.)
installed the Xll upgrade on the Leopard DVD but all to no avail.
So which version of X11 were you using before if not the one from the DVD? There may be updates to this version available from Apple. Is it possible you actually installed the DVD version over the top of a later version? /Library/Receipts may show packages installed for X11 if they were separate packages and not part of more general updates.
Right now, GIMP crashes and X11 won't even start when I double click from the applications/utilities folder.
The former is expected given the latter. What exactly happens when you try to open X11? Do you see any useful messages in the log files? (Look at system.log and console.log using /Applications/Utilities/Console and/or open X11 from Terminal and see what error messages you get.)
Are you on ppc or intel?

  • Using GIMP and X11

I originally posted this elsewhere in discussions; however this may be a better placement for it.

Thanks in advance for any help that any may provide.

  • OpenGL 2.0 and X11!

I'm trying to compile a small program I wrote in Linux in OSX using gcc and X11.
It compiles fine, but when I try to run, my program cant find the opengl 2.0 extensions... (my little program is a test to write GLSL shaders)
Does that mean that OSX X11 opengl implementation doesnt support opengl 2.0?
    or am I missign something?
I know I could compile using the standard opengl framework, but I would like to maintain the compatibility of the source code beetwen OSX and Linux... standard gcc/opengl code...
    thanks...
    Hradec

It seems that OpenGL 2.0 is not supported, but if what you are looking for is a specific OpenGL extension you might want to check the output of glxinfo:

  • Using slim and xfce4, something crashes on exit

I recently did a fresh install of Arch onto an older PC that I have. It's running a P4 3.06GHz, an nVidia GeForce FX 5900, and 1GB RAM. Because of the lower resources, I decided to use xfce4 and slim. I have a monitor and TV hooked up through s-video with the "seperate X screen" option. Whenever I logout of xfce (this includes, logout, reboot, shutdown), it goes to a blank black screen with a cursor at the top left and just hangs. I have slim configured to run from inittab, so it picks up after a couple seconds. However, if I run startx from console, and then logout of xfce the system just hangs and wont accept any keyboard input (including ctrl+alt+function to switch run levels). Also, if I choose to shutdown or reboot, the system will do so but the only thing I see is the blank screen until the POST. If I do a startx from console, the logout, I'm able to ssh in from my laptop, login and issue a reboot (again the screen doesn't change until the POST). Also, if I turn the "seperate x screen" option off, and just run the desktop on the monitor, it doesn't freeze. I've worked my way through a number of issues so far, but this one has me completely stumped. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with my configuration or if it's just a problem with the graphics driver. Any advice and/or help is greatly appreciated.

  • 10.5.6 and Terminal and X11

Installed 10.5.6 today and found a few quirks, especially with Terminal and X11. Anyone else run into this yet?
    1. Terminal default login shell is now tcsh instead of bash. Need to go to preferences and select /bin/bash.
    2. I am having problems launching anything that uses X11. Seems that something is now in a protected directory. If I launch X-based apps as the superuser via sudo, then everything runs. What's the fix to this?
    3. I had my bibtex library (for LaTeX publications) in $home/Library/BibDesk. However, $home/Library is now a protected directory and I can't seem to changed the permissions. What is the solution?

    eric.paterson wrote:
Thanks for the suggestion on reposting in the Unix forum.
Also, no offense, but sudo stands for "super user do," also the manpage says,
Actually su stands for switch user, which defaults to the root user if no other user is given. Otherwise su would be something like
    su nero
to allow any user to take over the account nero.
    %man sudo
sudo allows a permitted user to execute a command as the superuser or another user.....
Yes but there are things that cannot be done via sudo, but only by actually logging in as su.
For example, I recently discovered that I can read a DVD-RAM that has the main folder tagged as nobody for permissions. I could not open it with sudo, but had no problem as su.
Another time I could not delete a file using sudo but su allowed me to do so.
The differences are probably very small and not well documented, but if you do enough playing around in the terminal, you will eventually hit something that requires su, and sudo will not work.

  • Gimp and x11 driving me crazy

    Hi,
I have an iBook G4 running Tiger 10.4.6
I have installed the whole xcodes package per instructions from Apple support from the Tiger Installation disk and have tried to run Gimp 2.2.1 and gotten an error code that says I need X11 which I thought installed with the xcode.
The installed components are in my devloper folder and when I double click Xcode it opens up but no go with Gimp. I have searched the forums and evenn tried some of the suggestions but nothing. All I wanted was a graphics app that was affordable and somewhat easy to use.
Please help the super newbie who does not know the first thing about dev tools.
    Thanx.

    Wade,
    You're brilliant--it worked!
I started it up and X11 starts up with a terminal window (is that normal?)
Gimp went through installation process and looks like it is functioning--yahoo!
Now, one more question--do i need that whole xcodetools.mpkg file too since I now have the X11 app or all they are all working in conjunction with eacother?
I have a small HD so any programs or utilities I don't need I would like to get rid of.
    Thanks again!

  • Install openmotif and X11 on imac 11,2?

I have a 3D software package (NX) that I cannot use because it requires the installation of openmotif and x11.
    I have a standard imac 11,2 which has X11.
But I can't find or figure out where to get openmotif. Does anybody know anything about this program?

    Try:

    I've not tried it myself.

  • Using NULL and NOT NULL in prompted filters

    Dear all,
While trying to grap the concept of prompted filters in sap bo web intelligence, I had a question whether why we cannot use NULL and NOT NULL while creating a prompted filters in our report.

    HI,
'Is Null' and 'Not Null' are the predefined functions in webi which only eliminate the null values or considering only null values.
'Is Null' and 'Not Null' are itself predefined functions that why you are not getting  prompts.
Null values are standard across the databases so this is defined  as a function in webi to specific eliminate the null values.
If something is not standard then there is option in the webi to use different operator with static values or with prompts.
More more information on Null see the Null wiki page.

How do I use the time capsule to share itunes music between multiple apple devices? Also, is it possible to control the music on one device using another, and how do you set this up?

unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups

  • TS3999 I had an icloud account setup in 2009 when I first got my family members each a mac. I let that account expire(we never used it) and I don't know how to get it off of my ical. It is not recognizing any of the information to reset the password?

I had an icloud account in 2009. We set it up as a family plan because my family had just changed from PC to Mac. We never used it and let the plan expire in 2010. My ical will not sync with my new iphone because it is linked to the family plan account that no longer exist. Because I don't remember my password, I tried resetting it. It says the personal information I entered is incorrect, but I know the information is correct...It's my birthday it asks for! Does anyone know how to get that account off of my mac without the account existing?

You were a MobileMe (not iCloud) subscriber in 2009 and this service has been terminated. However the login is an Apple ID and this never expires. What is your operating system? Do you have a MobileMe icon in System Preferences? - if so you should be able to sign out in it, but you may not have an iCloud icon to let you create an iCloud account, though you can do so if your iPhone has iOS 5 or above.
If you are getting login requests or other irritations from your MobileMe account you can go to (user)/Library/Preferences/ByHost and delete all .plist files beginning with com.apple.DotMac or com.apple.idisk, then reboot.
The minimum requirement for iCloud to let you sync your data is 10.7.5 though you can sync through iTunes (except with Mavericks).

  • Can I use classes and methods for a maintenance view events?

    Hello experts,
Instead of perform/form, can I instead use classes and methods, etc for a given maintenance view event, lets say for example I want to use event '01' which is before saving records in the database. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys!

    Hi viraylab,
    1. The architecture provided by maintenance view
for using EVENTS and our own code inside it -
       It is provided using FORM/PERFORM
       concept only.
    2. At this stage,we cannot use classes.
    3. However, inside the FORM routine,
we can write what ever we want.
We can aswell use any abap code, including
       classes and methods.
(But this classes and methods won't have any
effect on the EVENT provided by maintenance view)

  • Error while accessing a library using content and structure

I have a library having document and folder inside it. When I open the library using content and structure I get an error with a correlation ID. When checked the the logs with Correlation ID got an error message "View 'All Document' does not exist."
'All Document' is name of default view on the library.
When I open the library from view all site content the library is being opened.
    Please help!!!

    Hello Victoria,
    Thanks for  the response.
I have tried troubleshooting steps given by you.
Check if the issue occurs with other users. Use another user to access the library in Content and Structure and then compare the results. --
I tried with different users but no luck
Make sure that the user account with issue has permission to view the All Documents view of the library. --
Yes, user Account have the permission
Check if the issue occurs with other libraries in the Content and Structure. If not, I recommend to save the library as
a template including contents and then create a new library based on this template. After that use the new library instead of the old library. --
No other library have this problem. I cannot save the library as template including the contents as the it has many folders and  files. The current size of library is 786 MB
Clear cache in the browser or use another browser to see if the issue still occurs. --
    tries but issue persists.
    Best regards,
