Using Bean Attributes in a JSP for a h:commandLink

Hi,
I am very new to JSF so apologies if the answer is obvious.
I currently have a ArrayList of products obtained from a database.
Using...
<h:dataTable value="#{ProductBean.productList}" var="product">
                <h:column>
                    <f:facet name="header" >
                        <h:outputText value="Title"/>
                    </f:facet>
                    <h:outputText value="#{product.title}"/>
                    <f:facet name="header" >
                        <h:outputText value="Picture"/>
                    </f:facet>
                    <h:outputText value="#{product.picture_url}"/>
                </h:column>
            </h:dataTable>The contents of the ArrayList are printed out fine.
I am now looking to iterate over the items to output a link
so far I have... but it doesn't seem to work
<c:forEach items="${ProductBean.productList}">
                    <h:form>
                    <h:commandLink action=images/"#{productList.picture_url}"  title="#{productList.title}"><h:graphicImage url="thumbs/#{productList.picture_url}" width="100" height="75" alt="" /></h:commandLink>
                </h:form>
                </div>
            </c:forEach>I think the problem lies with appending the "images/" before the url
Ideally I would like it to replicate the actual HTML view which is
<a href="images/london_flight.jpg" title="London in Flight"><img src="images/london_flight.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="" /></a>If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Thanks that was helpful so I have modified my code to...
            <c:forEach items="${ProductBean.productList}" var="product">
                <div class="thumbnail">
                    <h:form>
                    <h:commandLink action="images/#{product.picture_url}" title="#{product.title}"><h:graphicImage url="thumbs/#{product.picture_url}" width="100" height="75" alt="" /></h:commandLink>
                </h:form>
                </div>
            </c:forEach>But I seem to be getting a jsp error...
javax.el.ELException: Not a Valid Method Expression: images/#{product.picture_url}
How can I append "images/" to the action without it falling over.
Thanks

  • Can I use any Class in a Use Bean Tag of a JSP

    I have tried to modify the existing EditForm.java file and created a new Class File which changes the presentation(render method)in the Edit Form.
    can I use the new class as a Bean in the use bean tag of a JSP.

    You can use any class as part of the useBean tag. If you want to add your class to the list of available webbeans, you can add it to <jdev dir>\teamplates\webbeans.xml.

  • Assining a bean attribute to a jsp variable

    I am writing a struts application and am using
    <bean:write name="configattribute" property="name"/>
    to print out info on my jsp page.
    I was wondering if I could assign that value to a local jsp variable so I can check its value and change the colour of the text accordingly.
    e.g.
    String name = <bean:write name="configattribute" property="name"/>;
    if name.equals("Ben"){
    out.print(<font color=\"red\">;
    else{
    out.print(<font color=\"blue\">;
    }

    You should still be able to use the code I listed...the logic:iterate tag creates the bean "configname" in the page scope. So you should be able to do something like this:
    <logic:iterate id="configname" name="confignames">
       <tr>
          <td>
    <% ConfigName configname = (ConfigName)pageContext.getAttribute( "configname" );
       String color = "blue";
       if( "julius".equalsIgnoreCase( configName.getOwner( ) ) )
          color = "red";
       } %>
            <span style="color: <%= color %>"><bean:write name="configname" property="owner"/></span>
          </td>
          <td>
             <bean:write name="configname" property="name"/>
          </td>
       </tr>
    </logic:iterate>Does that sound right?

  • Accessing bean attributes in a JSP

    Hi,
    I am sending a bean from a Servlet to a JSP as follows:
    request.setAttribute("newclientTEST", ro_client);
    this.getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/jsp/private/research/UserAdded.jsp").forward(request,
    response);I can then access the bean in UserAdded.jsp page as follows:
    <jsp:getProperty name="newclientTEST" property="username" />This works fine and returns the username from the bean but I am a little confused why this is working. From what i have read about JSPs so far in order to access properties of a bean in a JSP we first of all have to make a reference to the bean as follows:
    <jsp:useBean id="newclientTEST" scope="request" class="ie.scourced.beans.PrivateClientBean" />Why does it work for me when I don't refer to the bean using useBean??
    Thanks

    how?.... mmmm ... did ... (head scratch) ...I miss that.
    Thanks a million for spotting that, I really did appreciate that.

  • Using Javascript attributes in a JSP-Tag

    Hi!
    I want to submit a Javascript attribute to an embedded jsp Tag:
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function test()
         var jscriptvar= document.myform.myselection.selectedIndex;
    result = <%= jspobj.doit(jscriptvar) %>;
    </script>
    The exception is : Undefined variable: jscriptvar
    Is that possible?
    It works, if the doit-method doesn't have a parameter.
    I hope, someone can help me.
    Thanks
    Torsten

    JavaScript is executed on the client-side by the browser. The JSP code is executed on the server-side by the server and has no knowledge of JavaScript variables. You can not mix them in this manner.

  • Using parsed XML as data format for MVC implementation

    Instead of using Beans to contain the data for JSP pages I want to use XML objects. For example, a 'Document' object which represents XML data.
    I should then be able to interface easily with web services -some clients might require the raw xml string. Furtermore, I am not tied to JSP. I could use XSLT or browser based XSL stylesheets.
    The interface between my controller and processes will then also be a 'Document' instead of pre-defined methods.
    I would like to know what are the pros and cons of my approach? Is this kind of design used anywhere?

    This is not really any direct answer to your question.
    However, it may serve as food for your thoughts.
    Have you read http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/html/JSPXML.html and http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-03-2000/jw-0331-ssj-jspxml.html

  • Using dimension attributes in the Query Builder Bean

    All...
    I am developing an HTML client based tool using the JSP tags. I wish to create a report that selects the appropriate dimension value based upon an attribute.
    But...
    Using the query builder I can not select dimension values based upon dimension attributes. Is this possible? The only use I have found for the attributes is when I am sorting my selected diemsnion values.
    Thanks in advance
    Dylan.

    1. Java Client QueryBuilder has support for selecting dimension members based on an attribute.
    To use this functionality, go to Dimensional Panel -> Conditions tab. Drill on Match group of conditions. The attribute condition appears as the last available condition, but only for dimensions that have attributes.
    To test this, use BIBDEMO schema supplied with BI Beans and look at conditions for Product dimension.
    2. If you wish to display dimension attributes and their values in the HTML client UI,
    here is how you can retrieve attributes and their values for a dimension:
    (e.g. for Product dimension in BIBDEMO)
    String dimensionID = "MDM!D_BIBDEMO.PRODUCT";
    String hierarchyID = null;
    MDDimension dimension = metadataManager.getDimensionByUniqueID(dimensionID);
    MDHierarchy hierarchy = dimension.getDefaultHierarchy();
    if (hierarchy != null)
    hierarchyID = hierarchy.getUniqueID();
    // Retrieve all the attributes for this dimension
    MDAttribute[] attributes = dimension.getAttributes();
    if (attributes != null && attributes.length > 0)
    String attributeID = null;
    AttributeListStep attrStep = null;
    Selection sel = null;
    MetadataMap map = new MetadataMap(new String[] {MetadataMap.METADATA_VALUE});
    for (int i=0; i<attributes.length; i++)
    // Get the unique ID for the attribute
    attributeID = attributes.getUniqueID();
    // Create and evaluate an AttributeListStep
    attrStep = new AttributeListStep(dimensionID, hierarchyID, attributeID);
    sel = new Selection(dimensionID);
    sel.setHierarchy(hierarchyID);
    sel.addStep(attrStep);
    // Evaluate the AttributeListStep and get the DataAccess
    DataAccess da = query.createQueryAccess().getDataAccess(sel, map);
    // Walk the DataAccess and get the attribute values
    if (da != null)
    int extent = da.getEdgeExtent(DataDirector.COLUMN_EDGE);
    for (int i=0; i<extent; i++)
    // Get the attribute value
    strValue = (String)da.getMemberMetadata(DataDirector.COLUMN_EDGE, 0, i, MetadataMap.METDATA_VALUE);
    // Add the value to a drop down or another UI element...

  • Problem with JSP using bean packaged in jar file

    Hi,
              I am trying to use a java bean in a jsp file. The java bean is packaged
              into a jar file. I am getting class not found compilation error. If the
              bean remains to be a seperated class file, everything work well.
              Does anyone know how I can use bean in a jar file within jsp , i.e. to
              allow the bean to be found during compilation ?
              Thanks,
              Terence.
              [email protected]

    Jacek,
              Thanks for replying.
              My JSP's are just files in my document root . However, I found a solution to
              my
              problem. That is to have the jar file defined in my weblogic.class.path. I may
              have missed some files in my original jar file which causes my problem.
              Mayby I should package everything into a web application for deployment. That
              will be my next step.
              Thanks anyway.
              Terence.

  • How use bean of array with tag "jsp:useBean"??

    hi,all
    a bean of array put request with a servlet and forward a jsp page,this jsp use "jsp:useBean" of tag get the bean of array.
    how do for jsp:useBean of tag??
    thx.....

    You can't use an array directly in a jsppage. first u have to write the line <useBean /> through which you can access youtr class
    <jsp:useBean id="email" class="Pack.Email" scope="session" />
    after writing this line you have your class in your hand, you can think of "email" as it is a class object of Email class which is a Bean...
    declare a private array in the Bean and then made method getArray() which will return an array ... then you can use your array in jsp....
    an example of using a class variable in JSp is given below
    public String[] getArray() // note method must be public
    return array;
    now in your jsp page you have to use that class with
    <jsp:useBean id="email" class="Pack.Email" scope="session" />
    and cnow you can use array like this....
    <%
    String[] array=email.getArray();
    for (int i=0; i< array.length;i++ )
    out.println(array]);
    %>
    Does it solve your problem now ?

    I am developing with EP SPS12 and am facing the exact same situation. Values passed to the bean from the dynPage do not get through to the jsp. When removing the respective lines in the portalapps.xml I get a portal runtime exception.
    I am posting my portalapps and the jsp where importing the beans. What am I missing here? Any help would be greatly appreaciated! Thank you in advance.
