Using CardLayout and Null Layout

I used search on the forums and found one person that asked the exact question I'm needing answered. But, he didn't get any responses either.
I have a JFrame(myJFrame) which has a JPanel(myJpanel). myJpanel uses a CardLayout. I then have another class that extends JPanel(TestJpanel). TestJpanel uses a null layout. I am not able to get the TestJpanel to show correctly with the show(). method. However, if I change the layout of TestJpanel to anything else, presto it works. Has anyone uses null panels as the panels for a cardlayout panel?

if you do setLayout(null) the component will leave all layout up to you. You can then use setSize(), setLocation(), and setBounds() on all children to position them however you'd like

    It has already been pointed out that the FTS is probably due to the OR whatever IS NULL predicates.
    A hack that might/might not work - assuming indexes on the columns exist - is to use the syntax
    --'' is an empty string, interpreted by Oracle as null
    +column+ > ''A better way is to create a function-based index using NVL() or COALECSE on the affected column.

  • Using null Layout - Problems

    Hullo - I've written a little app that, because of the nature of what it does, prettymuch requires the use of null layout. It works well enough, but there are a few points where it does strange things that I don't understand. I haven't been able to find any good docs anywhere for how exactly layout/rendering works. The Swing tutorial, for example, almost completely ignores the topic.
    Basically, I set the layout to null, add my components, use setBounds...but then nothing happens. In order for anything to be visible, I have to call pack() before I call show(). What is pack? What does it do? How can Sun's null layout examples work even though most of them don't use it?
    Second, if I create JFrame of a certain size, and add a component that goes off the bottom of the JFrame (on purpose), then expand the size of the JFrame to reveal the bottom part of that component, it doesn't paint - there's just a grey area. No amount of repaint() pack() or anything will cause it to show. The only way I've found to do it is to make the JFrame larger to begin with, add the component so that it's visible, then resize to the smaller size, which is kind of ugly and clunky.
    I basically do not understand why Swing is doing the things it does; why it paints sometimes and not other times, where it paints, when it paints, where it shows objects, how it packs them, etc. I would be very grateful if someone could englighten me!

Pack basically organizes the components so they take up the least amount of room, and then it shrinks the frame to as small as it will go without hiding any components. It think if you call revalidate() instead of repaint(), should solve your problem.
    The other thing to do, is (hehe) make your own components

  • Difference between null layout and absolutelayout

    hello
    I would like to know the difference between the null layout and the absolutelayout
    thank you in advance

    http://www.google.com/search?q=absolutelayout
    Next time, please use the search yourself.Do I have to consider this as answer Yes.
    notice that I asked for the difference between both
    of the layout and not about
    absolutelayout only Third link, advertised by
    "I think AbsoluteLayout does more than just setting Layout to null. AbsoluteLayout may even accomodate for changes in font sizes etc. ..."
    already should give you something to think about.
    Furthermore, the search shows that there are several different classes named AbsoluteLayout (ADF, SWT, BUI, samskivert...), and you didn't specify which one you're talking about.
    Still think this wasn't an answer?
    I guess I should stop assuming that you have a brain of your own.

  • Putting a panel using null layout in in a JScrollPane

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a form for the screen which looks exactly like its equivalent on paper. The form has a grid of cells that can be typed into.
    My approach so far has been to use a JTextPane for each cell and use absolute positioning to put these onto a JPanel with a null layout.
    This has worked well so far, but the JPanel is taller than the screen so I want to put it inside a JScrollPane.
    However the scrollbars don't show up.
    Can someone point out what I need to implement to be able to scroll my null layout JPanel in a JScrollPane.
    Thanks.

    That was nice and simple. The Duke's are yours.
    One problem leads to another unfortunately.
    I want the form to be centered so I put it in another JPanel with BorderLayout then put that in the JScrollPane. Unfortunately it is not centred.
    JPanel nullLayoutPanel = new JPanel();
    nullLayoutPanel.setLayout(null);
    // layout components on panel
    JPanel panelToKeepFormCentered= new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
    panelToKeepFormCentered.add(nullLayoutPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    JFrame frame = new JFrame();
    frame.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(panelToKeepFormCentered));Hope it is clear what I'm trying to achieve.
    When the JFrame is smaller than the form (the nullLayoutPanel), scrollbars should show (they do now thanks to Noah).
    When the JFrame is bigger than the form, the form's JPanel should be centred in the JFrame with blank space around.
    Thanks.

  • How to force simple tags and null attributes to appear when using SQL/XML?

    Hello everybody:
    I'm developing a non-schema based XMLType view.
    When the XML document is generated, i noticed two things I need to manage in order to achieve the desired result:
    1. Oracle generates a <tag></tag> pair for each XMLELEMENT defined; in my case, some tags need to appear as <tag/>... how do I do? Is it possible when using schema based XMLType views? Is it possible while using a non-schema approach?
    2. When using XMLATTRIBUTE('' AS "attribute") or XMLATTRIBUTE(NULL AS "attribute"), no one attribute with label "attribute" and null value appears at the output; how do I force to Oracle DB to render those attributes which are with no values (needed to render those attributes as another parsing code will await for all the items)?
    3. Some tip about how to route the output to an XML text disk file will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello odie_63, thanks for your reply:
    Reasons why needed single tags are these two next: Needed to generate a single XML file from 50,000,000 rows, where the XML ouput matches not only row data but another default values for another elements and attributes (not from database but using strings and types with default values); by using start and end tag, the generated file is as much twice bigger than using single tags; second, needed a very precise presentation for all the document.
    For generating that document, currently focus is based on using a batch process relying on Spring Batch with using a single JDBC query where a join happens between two tables. From my point of view, that approach uses: database resources, network resources, disk resources, and processing resources, including the price of making the join, sending to network, creating objects, validating, and making the file (Expending too much time generating that XML file). That processs currently is in development.
    I think possibly another approach is delegating the complete generation of that file to the database using its XML capabilities. My current approach following your recomendations is to generate a clob where I will put all the XML and putting it into a table. It leads me to another issues: Considering limitations on memory, processing and disk space, needed to append a single row-as-xml into the clob as soon as possible, and putting the clob inside the field as soon as possible, or putting the clob inside the field, and appending into it as the data is generated; so How do I manage the process in order to achieve that goals?. Seen these issues aren't related to my original question, so I'll open a new post. Any help will be apreciated.
    Thanks again in advance.

    Set your columns back to one for the moment. In layout mode, insert a Text box. Place it in the upper left corner of your document, and drag down and right to the size of the container for your two columns. Click inside the Text Box, and now bump up your columns to 2. Your two columns are now contained in this resizable Text Box.

    Command (right) - click on the photo and select Fit to Frame in the contextual menu:
    Not all frames in a theme offer that feature but most do.  The spread layout doesn't.

    OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages - Apple Support
    Google Mail recently implemented additional security measures "for your protection" of course. The manifestation of that may be the requirement to create a unique, "application-specific" password for each one of the various Google services you may use. That requirement probably includes Google Mail. So if the above Apple Support document doesn't resolve the problem, research Google's application-specific password requirements, and how to configure Mail to use it.
    I asked the Hosts to edit or obscure the email address in your post.

    With APEX we're fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.

    I really do appreciate your efforts to help me solve this problem... Thank you in advance

    Height is determined by content.  I can't think of a single reason to have a div height of 5px because almost nothing will fit inside that small a space without problems.
    As to why it doesn't show up in other devices, you must have put that style into the Tablet CSS code instead of the default Mobile CSS code.
    Fluid Grids build up from Mobile (applied to everything) with specific rules for Tablets, then Desktops.
    Best advice, use Fluid Grids for layout only.  Use a separate CSS file for content styles.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy O.

  • Adding buttons in null layout...

    Hi...,
    I am new to Java and I would like to know how null layout can be implemented in a frame and how to add buttons on in anull layout. Any help would be appreciated.

    You can use the setBounds() of the components you want to place on your form. Like this:
    public class Test extends JFrame
         JButton    button1 = new JButton("1");
         JButton    button2 = new JButton("2");
         JButton    button3 = new JButton("3");
         JTextField text1   = new JTextField();
         JTextField text2   = new JTextField();
         JTextField text3   = new JTextField();
         public void Test()
             Container contentPane = getContentPane();
                contentPane.setLayout(null);
                button1.setBounds(252,25,85,26); //x,y,width,height
             button2.setBounds(252,55,85,26);
             button3.setBounds(252,85,85,26);
             text1.setBounds(60,25,168,24);
             text2.setBounds(60,55,168,24);
             text3.setBounds(60,85,168,24);
             contentPane.add(button1);
             contentPane.add(button2);
             contentPane.add(button3);
             contentPane.add(text1);
             contentPane.add(text2);
             contentPane.add(text3);
                setVisible(true);
                setSize(400,300);
           public static void main(String args[])
                new Test();
    }

  • Difference between Null and null?

    What is the difference between null and NULL?
    When is each used?
    Thanks,

    veryConfused wrote:
    There is a null in java, but no NULL. null means no value. However, when assigning value, the following is different:Although the empty String has no special role. Null means, the referential type is not assigned (doesn't refer) to a specific object. The empty String is just another object though, so seeing it or pointing it out as something special when it actually isn't at all (no more special than new Integer(0) or new Object[0]) just adds to the confusion.

  • Cannot send message using the server (null)

    i use mail 2.1.
    i have a .mac account and have three other email accounts attached to my mail account.
    lately, i cannot send any email.
    the switchiing ports fix hasn't helped either.
    this is the error message:

    Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
    Message from: email <[email protected]>

    no matter which one i pick it doesn't work and no email is sent.
    anyone have this error before? or now how to fix it?
    i'd be appreciative.

    1.67 GHz Power PC PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Sony HDR HC3 HD HandyCam MiniDV

    I was having a similar problem (don't feel like typing all the details)
    I was about to to delete my com.apple.mail.plist, when finally it hit me.
    I ran ethereal (again, I'm sorry, but learning how to use ethereal is a topic unto itself). Following the TCP stream (ie. looking at the smtp messages being sent back and forth) I came across two problems. For some reason my port number was set to 567 or something like that, when it's supposed to be 25, as I had originally set it to.
    Once I corrected the port number I started receiving an error message from the smtp server. It said the return email address could not be authenticated. (using xyz.com as an example) The correct return email address was supposed to be [email protected], but for some reason it was changed to john@xyz in the account settings.
    Anyway, to get to the point, another thing to check is that your return address has been set correctly, and if all else fails, make sure you have X11 installed and use fink to install and run ethereal. This will let you know if you are actually connecting to the server, and will show you any error messages.
    PS. I think this problem started occurring with the last update made to mail. I believe it somehow corrupted my settings. This would explain how my port number could have been changed to the default port number of .mac mail.
