Using ChatOps to streamline the DevOps workflow

Chat applications have a steady history in the workplace – they improve collaboration, are generally quicker than email, and often give you a nice array of emoticons to pick from. The first two (and debatably the third) have led to chat applications' wise use in software development, according to TechTarget. And now, chat applications have been picked up by DevOps.But with the new abilities of chat applications to combine "clients, API integration, and automation to improve software workflow and other business processes."TechTarget reports that ChatOps, "a term widely credited to GitHub, is a practice that focuses on conversation-driven development." Offering the ability to bring tools, scripts, and plugins into conversation spaces, ChatOps enables teams to work together to develop, automate, and build software collaboratively. With the...

Hi,
We have two clients one is for customizing work and the other for Workbench. I am unable to make anything (workflow template ) related things in the customizing client and i can able to activate the agents in the workbench clients but i cant able to transfer the same. if i see the request it doesnt contains the activation of agents.
If i go and change the workflow template in the customizing client its not allowing.
Thanks

You can get Xcode without joining the developer program. Just go to the App Store and download it (it's free).
You'd only need to join the Developer program if you want to put your app into the App Store, this is for OS X.
You will need to join the Developer program if you want to develop for IOS. In that case you will need a parent or guardian.

  • Have you used the new workflow features in CM 12?

In CM 12.0, users can optionally deploy the standard
approval processing or new flexible, workflow approval
processing based on the project and/or document. Have you
used the new workflow features? Do you think the new
workflows will allow your organization to better drive and
control internal and multiple party reviews?

I was one of those users who fight for this
    functionality.
I find using it however very
    unhandy.
    Let me give you real
    life examples:
    1. Once you
create an order/contract and do not choose "New
Method" you cannot change approval method to new any
more. Imagine one of my users was creating an order
with 120 items (hell of typing!) then she spotted that
she cannot send it with new review process to several
reviewers in sequence. The need for retyping it makes
5 other ppl already against this software, even if
they did not used it at all.
    2.
    Document Owner has admin rights.
    For some
reason user needs to be document owner in order to
setup review process. Imagine in our situation usual a
site assistant, or junior person in technical office
is responsible for creating and typing all the
orders/contracts. So this person needs to be Document
    Owner in order start review.
    Document owner
however can also approve/reject in name of other users
mentioned in review cycle. This I find strange and
make entire new review/approval cycle worthless, as
the situation is still that anyone can approve someone
on someone behalf with no control.
    <br
/>3. Alerts missing. I couldn't find an alert that
would be generated if a document is held internal (by
user) for more then ... x days.
    <br
/>4. I'm also missing a Project Setting for "all
documents must use new review process"; "defoult
reviewers is + 'All in sequence' + 'list of reviewers'
    - for each kind of document.<br /><br />If
you want to force users to follow a strict
methodology, and your software gives them chance to
choose whomever they want, wherever they want, use any
approval method, approve on someone behalf ... you
    will finally fail.<br /><br />I keep
hearing that Primavera sold thousand of licenses, and
they will develop this product, I just hope they will
hurry, before users switch to other software.<br

  • How can I display a SP 2010 out of the box workflow's task assignees via powershell?

There are days where one of the 250+ workflows at the site has attempted to send email to someone no longer at the company.
I would like to find a way to go through the farm and display all the list URLs that have workflows, and the mail addresses associated to the workflows.
This way I can track down the workflows that need to be updated to remove the missing users.
I have started a bit of script to do this. In my script, I just had a site collection - I figured that if I can get that to work, then surely wrapping another loop for the rest of the farm won't be bad.
However, for some reason, I am not seeing the output that I expected to show the mail addresses.
I am hoping a different set of eyes might see what I am missing. It was my understanding that the AssociationData property was XML that contained information about the assignees for tasks, the carbon copy list, etc.
Maybe I misunderstood something that I read?
    $outLoc = "d:\temp\wfdata.txt"
    $web = Get-SPWeb -Identity "http://myfarm/sites/it/"
    foreach ($list in $web.Lists)
     $associationColl=$list.WorkflowAssociations
     foreach ($association in $associationColl)
           $association.AssociationData | Out-File $outLoc
    $web.Dispose()
I want to thank you for the helpful tips that so often appear on this list. They help me when I am reading over old threads to figure out what to do. I am hoping that tips on this thread will likewise be helpful.

    Hi,
    With
SPWorkflowAssociation.AssociationData property, we can get the assignees’ information. Your script can
be able to retrieve a XML format data which contains the user name we need:
So the next step would be getting the user name by parsing the XML data we got.
The two links below will show how to parse XML with PowerShell:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18032147/parsing-xml-using-powershell
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2012/03/26/use-powershell-to-parse-an-xml-file-and-sort-the-data.aspx
With the user name, we can get the
Email property of an user with the scripts as the link below provided:

  • Note: Due to heavy load, the latest workflow operation has been queued. It will attempt to resume at a later time

    Dear all,
sorry for opening another thread on this.
I think I have a performance issue with workflows attached to document sets in SharePoint. And I say “I think” because people keep telling me that this is the way it just is.
The user creates a new document set, which triggers a workflow in which the user has to confirm/review/approve a series of tasks. The time it takes from clicking the OK button on those task form to the workflow status moving to the next step is about 4 seconds.
And visiting that status page within those 4 seconds brings up the infamous “Note: Due to heavy load, the latest workflow operation has been queued. It will attempt to resume at a later time.” message.
Hitting Refresh in the browser after those 4 seconds will make the new workflow status appear and the red text go away.
Is that normal? Is that the performance that everyone else is seeing as well?
I struggle to see why simply moving a workflow from one task to another should take that on a machine that isn’t doing anything else at the time.
    (1)
I have a standalone (non-clustered) SharePoint box, 4 CPUs, 8 GB of memory, more than half of that available, acting as application server and wfe; only the database is on different box.
    (2)
The CPU only goes up to 18 or 19%, so CPU does not seem to be the bottleneck. Half the RAM is also still free.
    (3)
The workflow is designed with Nintex, and has about 9 flexi and review tasks – the last 2 of them in a loop iterating over typically 3 or 4 items.
    (4)
Looking at the logs it looks like the processing in Nintex only takes about 1 second – I don’t know where the other 3 seconds are going.
    (5)
There is nothing obvious in the logs.
    (6)
We’ve looked at all the “theoretical” improvements around throttling and batch sizes etc. – none of them appeared make any difference. And the workflow is so small that it looks like my tasks gets executed straight away. The problem appears
to be that the execution takes too long(?) and therefore has not finished by the time the page get redrawn.
    (7)
I am running perfmon and I can e.g. see one(!) workflow being loaded into memory – as expected as I am the only user.
    (8)
I am seeing a total of 3(?) SQL queries being executed(?). I get the Bytes Sent/sec spiking at 25K, and Bytes received at 18K. But is this good or bad or a bottleneck?
Where do I take it from here?
I have been told that “[…] most customers have no issue with this as they are used to the way SP operates and it can be slow at times.” Is it really that bad?
If it is worth watching more performance counters then I’d need to know what to compare them to.
Is there something else I am missing?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi,
Before considering an additional hardware try to change following configurations for workflow:
    Increase Throttle Size
    Increase Batch Size
    Time Out
    Workflow Timer Interval
    AutoCleanUpDays
    Increase Throttle Size
The Workflow throttle setting controls how many Workflows can be processing at any one time on the entire server farm. By increasing the throttle it will allow the number of Workflows execution or can be initiated at a time.
Use below PowerShell command to get the current Throttle Size:
    Get-SPFarmConfig | Select WorkflowPostponeThreshold
Use below PowerShell command to set new Throttle Size:
    Set-SPFarmConfig -WorkflowPostponeThreshold 100
    Increase Batch Size
This is the size that determines number of events processed for a single Workflow instance. Default value is 100, but it can be range from 1 to any number.
Use below PowerShell command to get the current Batch Size:
    Get-SPFarmConfig | Select WorkflowBatchSize
Use below PowerShell command to set new Batch Size:
    Set-SPFarmConfig -WorkflowBatchSize 200
    Time Out
This decides the time out of the Workflow event. The default value is 5 and can be any integer. The time is in minute.
Use below STSADM command to get the current Time Out value:
    stsadm -o getproperty -pn workflow-eventdelivery-timeout
Use below STSADM command to get the current Time Out value:
    stsadm -o setproperty -pn workflow-eventdelivery-timeout -pv “15″
    Workflow Timer Interval
This setting is applicable at Web Application level and not the farm level. The workflow timer interval specifies how often the workflow SPTimer job fires to process pending workflow tasks. This interval also represents the granularity of delay timers within
your workflow. If a timer is set to delay for one minute, but the interval timer fires only every five minutes, the workflow delays for five minutes, not one minute.
Use below STSADM command to get the current Workflow Timer Interval value:
    stsadm -o getproperty -pn job-workflow -url <Web Application Url>
Use below STSADM command to get the current Workflow Timer Interval value:
    stsadm -o setproperty -pn job-workflow -pv “Every 10 minutes between 0 and 30″ -url <Web Application Url>

  • Due to heavy load, the latest workflow operation has been queued. It will attempt to resume at a later time.

I have SharePoint 2010 Enterprise running SP1. Configuration is one SharePoint server in the farm and a SQL 2008 R2 database for the backend. Our user environment is 80 users with very little load on the SharePoint server. I have the workflow timer
    set to 1 minute.
I have a SPD workflow that starts manually on a form library. Whenever I publish a new version of the workflow, the next time I start the workflow it takes the full minute to finish. If I click on the workflow status before it finishes, I see the message
"Due to heavy load, the latest workflow operation has been queued. It will
attempt to resume at a later time.". After the minute completes the workflow finishes.
Here's the weird thing, the next time I start the workflow, it runs in a couple of seconds - almost instantly. I've tried up to 15 times after the inital publishing and everything seems to work fine on initiation.
Well, that would be fine for me, however, I intermintantly get this heavy load message during task processes that are running inside the workflow. It's probably less than 5% of the time. It's really frustrating though so I appreciate some help. I'm look
online and haven't found anything that describes my situation.
    Thank you in advance!

    hello,experts
        here is my problem:

  • What's the best workflow for Home Movie Importing and Enjoying?

I'm new to iMovie (and the mac) and have started importing all my home movies from my camcorder into iMovie. I quickly realized that movies take a huge amount of disk space and it may or may not be reasonable to import all my movies and keep them on the hard disk in .dv format. At 12GB/Hour I would need 1.2 Terabytes of storage (plus backup). If that is the best workflow, i'm happy to invest in a few terabytes of storage and back up. But before I do that, I want to check to see if there is a different workflow I should follow given my use case.
    Here is my use case:
I have 100 hours of 8mm and miniDV tapes already and plan to continue creating more.
I want to import them all into the iMac for ease of organization, searching for the clips of interest, and watch them either on my iMAC and also on my TV (via TIVO).
I may do some editing, but this is not a big priority for me at this time. I may do more editing in the distant future when I have more time. My editing for now will be limited to rejecting portions of clips I don't want.
I plan to watch the movies from my iMac on my TV via my TIVO (i've already ordered the Roxio Toast software that I understand I need, per the Tivo web site).
The final piece of my use case is back-up. I'd prefer to back up my movies on disk this way I maintain any editing i've done in case of a disk failure. Depending on what video format is recommended, this may bump me into a RAID multi-terabyte system as both working and automatic backup?
    Here are my questions:
Should I maintain my event library in .dv format? (and bite the bullet on the storage)
Or is the .dv format intended only for temporary editing and users are expected to compress into another format after editing? if so, what format and which tool is recommended? (keeping in mind that I want to view the clips via Tivo and Roxio/Toast).
If I need to byte the bullet and invest in storage, my quick math suggests I'll need about 2 terabytes for the library and 2 more for back up for a total of 4 terabytes!?. Is a RAID system recommended for this? (I was surprised that the Apple store did not carry such a system, so perhaps that is not the best option). What would you recommend?
Anyone out there with a similar use case? I know I've asked a lot of questions here. I'd appreciate any recommendations you may have, even if you cant answer all of them.
    Thank you.

I am in a similar mode, though about half as much existing DV footage.
+Should I maintain my event library in .dv format? (and bite the bullet on the storage)+
    Short answer, yes; long answer:
I did "bite the bullet" since 1T drives are at or just over $100. I'm using a MacBook Pro so I bought an 2 port eSATA card for my cardbus slot ($34), and a 1T eSATA/Firewire/USB drive ($119). I don't plan to "back up" as I am not going to get rid of my Mini DV tapes/vhs/analog tapes, etc. Those will be in an off-site dark cool closet elsewhere. I don't want to do RAID or such as it still puts everything in the same drive unit, in the same location. Basically I'm splitting my video import to two different physical drives. So if lightning, thieves, personal incompetence or whatever strikes, there's more chance it'll only affect one of the drives. I've thought about a Drobo, which you might consider. It is unique device that offers a spin on RAID that offers some advantages.
Everything I read here on these boards suggests that it is best to grab the source video in the original format whenever possible. Since storage is cheap, makes sense to me.
It is likely you wouldn't compress your video unless you were going to edit it. For example if you wanted to make a video of the kids growing up to give the relatives you'd likely end up compressing to burn them a dvd. You would compress if you were going to use MobileMe, YouTube, etc. to post some footage. Whether you watch the video from home, or output to DVD for others, or post online, at least you'll have the source video in it's best possible original format to work with.
This is an aside, but might be useful, I imported one tape at a time, let iM09 create a new event and split per each day. THen I renamed every event based on what the content was before doing the next tape. This really helps later on once yo realize you have a hard drive with 50 hours + of everything in your life on it. I included the year in the name in some way, for example, John's wedding 1994, Hawaii 2000, Hawaii 2004. Then I ended up drag/dropping Hawaii to one event.

  • What is the best workflow for AVCHD with iMovie/iDVD 09?

I am recording AVCHD video with a Sony HDR-SR11. I don't have a blu-ray burner yet, so I want to create the highest quality DVD's I can from this source video using my MacBook and the software I have (iMovie 09 and iDVD 09).
Currently I am importing the video clips into iMovie 09 at the 1920x1200 setting. After creating a 16:9 movie I choose "Share to Media Browser" and export at the highest setting I see (I think 1280x720, I'm not on the MacBook at the moment).
After a long while this completes and I launch iDVD 09. I drag the movie I exported above into the theme and burn at Professional Quality. After another long wait I have my DVD but I'm quite disappointed with the video quality.
Even taking into account that DVD is not a hi-def disc format it seems like the video quality should be better. Is there a better workflow I should be using with this combination of software? Maybe some way to avoid scaling/compressing the video twice? Or is this as good as it gets with iMovie 09 and iDVD 09? I may have access to iMovie 06, if that would help.
    Thanks,
    Gerald

    3) Share to Media Browser with Best Quality
For folks like me that wonder exactly how did you do this:
(I don't know what Media Browser is yet.)
I did this: (I got some warnings - did you?)
    In iMovie:
Selected my 1280x720 "HD" video in the Project panel,
    Share->Media Browser...
    - if HD is greyed out, you already shared this size to Media Browser, go to next step,
or select "Remove from Media Browser, check HD, click Remove"
    - if HD is not greyed, but is not check marked,
select Computer icon, then uncheck Mobile, Med, and Lrg, leaving only HD checked
With HD checked, Click Publish - watch "Creating the HD movie.."
Bring up iDVD, Select Create a new project, browse for location and enter project name
If Themes at bottom right is not selected (Dark), click it
Double click a theme - for example under Revolution, choose Chapters.
At bottom right, select Media, At top right, select Movies
Under iMovie should be your iMovie project - mine says "My First Project" (I didn't name iMovie proj)
    Select your iMovie Project,
you should see a thumb of your video with dimension, size listed
(movie duration is down at bottom right.)
Drag the thumbnail onto the iDVD preview window (I don't what that window is officially called)
drop it under the theme title "Revolution Chapters" for this example
You should see a running preview of your video with the project name below it.
Important step: Project->Project Info, Under Encoding: select Best or Professional Quality
Ok re-encoding warning, close Proj Info window.
File->Burn DVD... Popup says "Warnings in Project", select Continue Burning
Insert DVD (Apple designed sharp edges on the SuperDrive on purpose?)
    I used Staples 4x DVD-RW first.
Watch process proceed till DVD is ejected...Don't believe "Time remaining: about one minute"
My DVD-R120 player-recorder would not load the disk. It played fine on iMac, a WindowsXP laptop, and a Windows XP desktop. This DVD machine only likes old 1X RW media for some reason. I wish someone made a standalone Blu-Ray recorder/player. I burned a second copy to some gold Sony 1X/2X DVD-RW media, and this disk played fine.
Picture quality is soft compared to HD material, but the moire patterns on some edges is only somewhat reduced over the Share to iDVD version. This Share to Media Browser version is acceptable for folks that won't go to Vimeo or YouTube to see my videos in HD.

link in a workflow task (on the sharepoint site), the pdf opens as a temporary file and we do not get the check out option.  Why does this happen?????
    2)  The same thing happens when we click on the document link in the workflow task email;   HOWEVER,  one of our co-workers does get the
check out option when clicking on the link in the email task.  Why would she get the checkout option using the email and not when clicking on the link in the task list on the sharepoint site ????  We have compared our internet settings and adobe
settings to ours and found no differences.
We are using Sharepoint 2010, Windows 7, IE8, Adobe Reader X or XI.  Some of us have Adobe Pro X and have the same issues.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you could not get the checkout option for a pdf type document when clicking on the document link in the SharePoint workflow task.
I try to reproduce the issue, however, no matter when I click the pdf type document in the library or click on the pdf document link in the workflow task email, it download the pdf doucment and then I can open it.
It will be better if you can descript how you
get the check out option as expected when you click on the pdf document in the library.
    Then I upload a
word type document to the library, no matter when I click the word type document in the library or click on the word document link in the workflow task email, I can open the word document directly and get the check out option as expected.
I recommend to use the other type docuemts to check whether the check out option works.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Use of digital signatures within a workflow

    Hello all,
We attempt to build a workflow, where users will be digitally signing the forms being routed. However there are implications some implications with signing the documents.
    Here is the use scenario
    1. Initiator fills a form with datadigitally signs the formand then submits the form.
    2. 1st participant reviews the signed formthen he also signs the form on a separate area
    3. The signed (by initiator and participant) form is then archived. The data are extracted and stored to a third party system (e.g. a database)
What we have tried up to now
    a. used Designer 7.0 to design a XFA form template incorporating some data entry fields and two signature fields.
    b. embedded a binding schema and saved as .xdp
deployed the form to LC Form Manager
    c. we RE the deployed form properties to allow for digital signatures in Reader
    d. used Workflow Designer to create a simple workflow with two users (initiator to fill and sign the form, 1st participant to sign the form, 2nd participant for viewing the result)
    3. set a Init-Form to use this particular template (the url points to our form)
    4. set a Form-Var (the variable is of type document, the XFA schema is also displayed)
    5. set data mappings (user properties) to use Form-Var as both input and output
    Now, the sad story
    i. initiator logins to FM, selects the form, fills some data, signs and submits the form
ii. 1st participant receives a working item in his worklist
iii. he opens the form, any data the initiator entered are there, BUT the digital signature field (where initiator previously signed) is EMPTY
iv. initiator navigates to his archive and sees the same (data but no signature)
Remark: whenever this form opens (1st participant worklist or initiator archive), the form takes up all the space within Internet Explorer, i.e. the FM left-side navigation and any other frames disappear
Any idea to workaround on this would be great. Thanks in advance for your help,
    ~Evangelos

    Hi Evangelos,
Your issue is that you are submitting back an XDP format and not the PDF format. To resolve this issue, open your form and select the FSSUBMIT_ field from the heirarchy. Click on the Object palette and look at your Submit options. On that tab look at the Submit Format dropdown. You will want to choose PDF instead of XML Data Package (XDP). I have attached the working version of your form!!!
Basically you where reconstructing the PDF with the submitted data (the data does not have the signature in it) and hence the signature was being lost. The signature info is only part of the finished PDF.
NOTE: that the signatures will break from step to step (i.e. a yellow exclamation mark will appear) but Adobe are aware of this, and it will be fixed in the future.
    regards
    David.

  • Not able to edit the words "chapter" and "section" in the document workflow

    Hi all,
I would like to point out something that could be a bug. The 2 words "chapter" and "section" are not editable in the document workflow: I can just change the title for each chapter and the title for each section, but I am not able to change the words "chapter" and "section".
The problem is, iBooks Author is using the words "chapter" and "section" (heading 1) to build the TOC: if I am using iBooks Author in English, but I am writing a text in French, I am not able to change "Chapter" into "Chapitre". The only way to go, what I found out, is to close the app, change the OSX Lion system language, log out, re-open iBooks Author and start a new book: opening an English book  in the French version of iBooks Author will not change automatically the language in the workflow.
Does anybody has a trick to edit the words "chapter" and "section"?
    Best regards,
    Mauro

    Hi KT,
Thank you, but it's still in english.
I changed to "only number", then wrote the word "chapter" in french or italian or german before the number, then deleted the preview on the iPad and made a new preview, I still have the same result: the word "chapter" is still in the language of the app.
To be clear: I am writing a text using iBooks Author in italian. I have to translate the same text in french, the fastest way would be to rework the italian version (I already have all the multimedia stuff inside). I changed the italian word "Capitolo" (chapter) to the french one "Chapitre" (using the advices of AodhFFXI and K T). And for the first slide of the chapter that's fine.
But if I "close down" the first chapter slide or if I click on the top left botton to go to the chapter TOC, there I still have the word in italian, even if the word has been deleted in the layout:

  • How to use LOOP(Until) step in a Workflow

    Hi,
How to use LOOP(Until) step in a Workflow?
What are the steps involved in using the step LOOP(Until).

Hmmm... using it is just like using a LOOP UNTIL statement in any programming language. You get at least one loop iteration, as opposed to a WHILE loop which may give you zero iterations.
You simply insert a node of this type in the workflow, and magically there will be a loop inside which you can insert the steps you want to execute in the loop, and by double-clicking at the end node of the loop you can enter the condition for exiting.
What exactly is it you are having trouble understanding about the use of it?

  • How to attach a document with the Requisition Workflow?

I am testing the Oracle Requisition Demo workflow.Whenever i initiate the
workflow process with Reminder Requisition Document Option. The browser pop up
with the Error "The requested URL cannot be retrieved". Can anyone please guide me how do i attach a document with this process?
    Regards,
    Abrar

This field in the demo is designed to execute a PL/SQL procedure not store and attached document.
for example if you launch it from the demonstration Page instead of the launch process page the following will be populated into the document field. (PLSQL:WF_REQDEMO.REMINDER_REQ_DOCUMENT/WFDEMO:A1)
You can store a CLOB or BLOB in a workflow document attribute. Here is a link to the doc.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B13789_01/workflow.101/b10284/defcom11.htm#doc
If you want to upload and pass documents through a workflow you can do it in a variety of ways. Personally I would use Oracle Files if I wanted it off the shelf. Or use Oracle Text and the database and pass the document throught the workflow as a URL. There is also the CMSDK.
