Using Core Functions on NIFB

Hello!
I'm using the NIFB Library to connect Fieldbus. I was try to use the
Core Functions (ReadBlock and WriteBlock) with the BLOCKTAG.PARAM.
I load the NI-FBUS Communicator Manager and open a session (using the
OpenSession function). But, if I don't execute the NIFB Configurator
before the application, that functions doesn't work. That problem
accours with the Dialog application too.
Anyone knows what the problem?

The function in the Dialog Utility is "ReadObject". I'm using the 3.1.1 version too.
I'm connecting a Smar FI302 and IF302 (4-20mA / H1 transducers) on a Softing FG-100 FF/HSE linking device.
If I use the Administrative Functions (open link, open device,
open vfd, open block) before, the ReadObject and WriteObject functions
work without problems. When I try to connect with only a Session
descriptor, it doesn't work. I think it's like "mapping" the Fieldbus.
But there's no information about that in the NIFB documentation.

This leads to unexpected values not only on cumulative columns in report (generated with TODATE), but also other columns (calculated with AGO function or directly read from cube) have incorrect values.
The problem occurs when you filter on a column that is not in the select list. If you filter on just one level of dimension, results are fine. You can filter on multiple dimensions as long as you filter on just one level of each dimension.
If you filter on two or more levels of one dimension, than results are not correct. In some cases results for TODATE column are all zeros, in some cases it is a random value returned by Essbase (same random value for all rows of that column), and in some cases BI Server returns an error:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. Essbase Error: Network error [10054]: Cannot Send Data (HY000).

If you remove part with TODATE function, the results are fine. If you leave TODATE function, OBIEE returns an error mentioned above. If you manually modify variable SOLVE_ORDER and set value to, for example, 100 instead of AGGREGATION_SOLVEORDER, results are OK.
In all cases when this variable was modified in generated MDX, and query manually executed on Essabse, results were OK. This variable seems to be the possible problem.

Combining common aspects of all Adobe Apps and their core functions

I use Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Lightroom daily. So do most of you.
I've noticed that aside from the bizarre UI differences between say InDesign and Photoshop, there are other changes that make little sense - and I'd like to know why, and hear how you think we could change this.
Companies today are under the assumption that if they throw more fluffy features at us, we'll not notice the underlying core functionalities are suffering from lack of attention.
For instance - sure, geotaging in lightroom is useful - if you have a GPS attachment for your camera (or if it's built in) so having that as an option is nice, but having it load all the time and run "in the background" while I'm using lightroom doesn't work for "me". Facial recognition, it's coming eventually, but really, when would the pro photographer "daily" use this feature to search 20k + images? We already tag our things, and it's far faster to search a text string than it is to scan pixels.
So awesome fun feature, I'm sure the kids will love it, so include it sure, but don't have it eat up my resources. Let me turn it off.
So here's the point.
Adobe has created, and is still creating, a macrocosm of software that is supposed to interlink, allowing us to be productive from photo/drawing to publishing, and connect and share and so on, but the core features of our software do not do all of these things well - they only do them adequately.
We have Photoshop.com / Creative Cloud / Revel and other storage areas for our stuff - and none really link and all over lap, and all need another's feature, or improvement.
Why not merge them and have one awesome experience. But too, the "kids" already have tumblr, and instagram and facebook and drop box and on and on.
Why why have so many Adobe forums (on different sites) - why not merge them?
None of Adobe's offerings are "revolutionary" - just more clutter and more of the same, and more logins and profiles and links.

Open and Save dialogues in the UI's don't match between programs - XP styles vs Win7 styles. Some programs are "new" others "old" - huh?
Dictionary's don't match. Why not have one and load that between programs?
UI scaling doesn't match - different icon sizing, and font sizing (no we aren't talking retina support - just basic enlargement).
Tool layouts/options don't match. Fireworks / Illustrator. You bought Macromedia almost a Decade ago, may want to upate that?
Why are "quick" icons removed from the UI (like arrange all) and stuffed into a menu structure, but available in other programs?
Processor and Ram and GPU user settings/options don't match. - and yes I know it's application specific, but really? Illustrator couldn't use allocation options?
Limitations on artboard sizes that corel for instance doesn't have (Illustrator bogs down - with a lot of effects - at 100" and can't go larger than 220"? really?)
     isn't illustrator basically math based? Corel doesn't have this issue?
Limitations on printing/layout and other options that Corel doesn't have (man they have an awesome print layout preview screenthat indesign and illustrator could use).
Scalable anchor points based on zoom level. Those things are frightfully small.
Options to actually disable (not simply hide) add-on features/modules/tools not being used. *cough* lightroom.
Network access capabilities for some programs (lightroom cannot read it's database over a network)
The Adobe Application Manager - a simple "verify and download" tool is embarrassingly lacking in options pertaining just to its function.
Why is Lightroom such a bother to install through AAM/Creative Cloud Subscription?
Why do the installers take hours and hours to complete? Since Vista, I can install a full computer and its updates by the time I'm done getting Creative Suite Master installed and updated.
I'd like to hear about more common sense "core functions" that should be addressed - so Adobe can have a simple list - in one place that "highlights" where they are really dropping the ball.
Searching Adobe forums is fun - and you can search all of the above and find long threads on all of them - years old and un-addressed. Maybe because they are spread out?
Adobe seems to be resting on its laurels of decades of being the defacto design suite, and it's been apparent for years that the core software is late to release, buggy, bloated, and although more appealing to the eye, and now with fancy schmancy cloud features, our core operations are just overwhelmed due to all the fluff.
We have too much "left hand doesn't give a sh*t about what the right hand is doing" and that needs to change.
So I'd like to see your lists of "when I use this feature in this program, I'd have expected it to be in this other program and it's not".

Does your Adobe software do what was advertised correctly, "quickly" and well.
Can you move "seamlessly" between Adobe apps?
Then list those things that confuse you because it "should be there" (because in the last 3 releases it was and now it's gone) or "should work this way" and doesn't.
Maybe then Adobe could see that our list is a sign they need to get back to basics before they overwhelm what little functionality they have left.
I didn't buy Abode products to have cloud storage - I bought it to make money and be productive in a clean workflow.

If you bought them as separate apps, the will be independent apps. There is a natural connection between the apps. Acrobat has a preference for the touchup tools for raster and vector graphics.
I guess if you never set the Image and Object Editor, these could be blank, but personally, it is nice to be able to edit images and objects on the rare times you do not have access to the original files used to create a pdf file. Any modern Illy file can usually be opened by Acrobat. I don't have Photoshop Elements, but they may be able to rasterize pdfs. I would not worry about the connections between the apps. Most of the time, they work completely independently of the other parts and only react with each other when ou want them to.

Well, since you've had the same problem, with three different phones, that all use different size sim cards, it seems pretty obvious the problem is with your carrier/coverage & nothing to do with your phone or sim card.

Using package functions in an update

Okay, I have a package function that returns a correct value when used in a SELECT, but when used in an UPDATE, it returns Null. Why can't I used its result in the UPDATE?

Pragma restrict_references has not been required since 8i, so you can get rid of that. However, certain things will still be enforced, with or without the pragma. For example, you cannot perform DML from within a packaged function when that function is used in a select statement, although you can perform DML within a packaged function when it is used in an update statement. So, if you are performing some sort of DML in your function, it would not raise an error when used in the update statement, but would cause it to return whatever is specified in the exception block when used in a select statement, causing the different results.
Please see the demonstration below in which I have created a sample function that contains an insert statement. When I use the function from a select statement, it raises an error and does not insert a row. However, when I use the function in an update statement, it does not raise an error and inserts a row. I have then added an exception clause to the function and re-tested. When I used the function in a select statement, it now returns the value in the exception block, but still does not insert a row. When I used the function in an update statement, it returns a different value, not from the exception block, and inserts a row. Then I removed the insert statement from the function and re-tested. Now it returns the same value, whether used in a select statement or an update statement.

Using core data with a database

Here is where I am at. I have a trivia app in development that will have over 1000 questions, so a database is inevitable. We recently created a test sqlite database and read in some entries and it worked.
We were looking into exploiting the features of Core Data in our app, but this would involve creating a set of managed objects, a context, and the essentials for a Core Data scheme to function, and then use these models to fetch data from a database.
The database is not created yet. We are starting fresh and simply wish to see if we can use core data to work with a database that could be created once the model is in place. Is it possible to create a 1000 or more entry database whose entries could relate to a Core Data entity or set of entities, and then use Core Data to fetch the data from these entries as we please?

We will not be reusing any code. I apologize for the confusion. This is the start of the app regarding database management, and we have not yet created the database that will hold the questions for this app.
Alright, so you two are both suggesting to set up a model and allow the creation of the sqlite store, which if my research is correct, involves a .sqlite file with a "Z_" following each attribute, and then adding entries here. This sounds fair enough. I had not known if this was going against the mainstream use of core data or not.

Is there a test suite out there for testing AWT core functionality?

Hi all,
I am searching for some kind of test suite for testing AWT core functionality. It's obvious that these test aren't automatically ones like classic unit tests. I think more about a suite of mini applications that are bound together and their result must be checked manually from a user. Of course better would be some kind of reference screen dumps and a automatic comparison to them.
Do anyone know if something like this already exists?

I've never actually used it, bug google for the "Java Compatibility Kit", aka the JCK. I believe it contains both AWT and Swing tests. It's developed by Sun, so it's (hopefully) comprehensive.

Need to extend iOS core functionality

I'm working on part of onboard computer software for cars, related to interoperation with iPhones and iPads. Right now my task is to figure out, if it is possible to install a DAEMON on iPhone, which will implement VNC-like server, which will interact ONLY with car's onboard computer. This software may or may not comply with appstore requirements, depending on Apple position.
I understand than this question should be addressed to apple tech specialists, but I cannot figure out how to contact them using Apple site.
I would appreciate it if somebody can tell me how to contact an Apple specialist, who can help me to solve the following problem:
My company needs some API for the following tasks:
catch screen updates and capture the updated rectangle without polling
be able to enumerate, scroll, push and drag visible NSViews of applications who agree to be remotely controlled(if allowed)
override iPhone screen orientation to that of the remote screen when connected(if allowed).
if possible, accept incoming calls and enforce sound redirection to airplay(to the car audio system for example)
Do all these tasks in background as a system service or as some part of system libraries(maybe using LD_PRELOAD)
iPhone or iPad must login via cable to avoid remote attacks on car's machinery, but after login it must be accessible via Wifi or bluetooth(maybe passengers on the back seats would play angry birds or to tell the car's owner "hey dude i'm your car being stolen!" while she/he/it is away). That means the (privileged) application must be able to establish WiFi connection on it's own
To sum it all, we need something like "veency" does, but without jailbreaking, with proprietary protocol, covered by NDAs and compatible only to car's onboard computer. It is OK if this the "server" will not allow to control all applications(due to security reasons, for example). Also, no data will be uploaded to iPhone or downloaded to car computer, except video materials available via AirPlay, screenshots or control messages.
Most of this functionality can be emulated using AirPlay, specialized app-store-compatible application, some of it is optional(WiFi connection), and some can be emulated by implementing yet another music/video player(not a good idea). However, I believe this extra functionality will be very useful not only for interoperation with iCar hardware, but for iHomes, iOffices and so on.

There is no intent to modify the OS. There is possibility to modify core libraries on jailbroken iPhone using LD_PRELOAD functionality to hook some functions. But this is not a good option.
There are some tasks, like automatic integration of car sound system with iPhone, or interaction with music player/receiving calls while driving. I see no possibility to achieve this without remote control. The remote control may be implemented as set of named "buttons"(play,stop,send list of songs) - just like multimedia keyboard keys

As long as your Sensor Settings are On within Menu, Settings, Phone, Sensor Settings then you just need to do the following -
Tapping
The tap function allows you to quickly
mute and reject calls and alarm tones, and
to display a clock just by double-tapping
the back or front of the phone when the
slide is closed.
Select Menu > Settings > Phone >
Sensor settings to activate the tap
function and vibration feedback.
Mute calls or alarms
Double-tap the phone.
Reject a call or snooze an alarm after
muting it
Double-tap the phone again.
Display the clock
Double-tap the phone.
(If you have missed calls or received new
messages, you must view them before you
can see the clock.)
Simply, if you double tap the screen when the slide is closed and you can see the clock appear then it is working.

Hi All,
Here's an example of how to use evaluate. This use calls the Oracle TO_DATE function: EVALUATE('TO_DATE(%1,%2)' as DATE, '03/03/2009', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
Here's how it works: EVALUATE( '<FUNC>' AS <DATATYPE>, VALUE1,VALUE2,etc)
FUNC) Is the syntax for the function you are calling. Any parameters have to be replaced by %<number>, where number refers to the order in which you specify your parameters.
DATATYPE) The datatype that the function will evaluate to. In this case, DATE.
VALUE1) The latter part of the formula is a comma separated list of all the parameters used in the function. In this case, it's the date I want to cast
VALUE2) This is the second parameter. You need as many as you referenced in your function. In this case, it's the date format.

Yes ! You Can!
while creating the dashboard prompt, under "Show" pick SQL results and you write the SQL statement and include the EVALUATE function.
I have several such examples. Most of of dashboard pages are parameter driven.
1. 1st paratmeter - users specify the dates
2. 2nd parameter - constrains the results for the period specified in 1st paramter and my SQL for 2nd paramter looks like this -
SELECT table1.column1
FROM table, datedim1, table1,table2
WHERE datedim1.date BETWEEN EVALUATE( 'TO_DATE(%1,%2)','@{presentation variable1}','dd/mm/yyyy') AND EVALUATE('TO_DATE(%1,%2)', '@{presentation variable 2}','dd/mm/yyyy')
