Using Crystal Reports in Visual Basic 2010

I am trying to add several Crystal Reports to a new project and having a major problem.  Here's the situation. I created a new Visual Basic 2010 project with only one form, In visual Basic I added Crystal Reports.   I then imported a form that was created in Crystal Reports 8.5.
There were no errors and the report with valid data was visible. I then tried to run...it wouldn't run and 31 errors appeared.
Obviously I missed something. I have searched for a very simple basic tutorial and  either can't find one or didn't recognize one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Milt

Ok. So, you added the report to the project. Now we have to add the CR assemblies to the project, add the viewer (if need be) and fire it off. Simplest code would be:
Public Sub New()
        ' This call is required by the designer.
        InitializeComponent()
        ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.
        CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = ("path to report")
    End Sub
In this case you are using the viewer SDK to runt he report. The report will prompt for any logon parameters - but you can code these also. You can load the report via the engine as bellow. Again, the report will prompt. I prefer to use the engine as it is way more "extensible"...
Public Sub New()
        ' This call is required by the designer.
        InitializeComponent()
        ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.
        Dim crReportDocument As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
        crReportDocument.Load("path to report")
        'Bind the report to the viewer
        CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = crReportDocument
    End Sub
If you have a report added to the project (strongly typed) the code would be:
CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = New myReport()
For more details, I'd recommend looking at the sample app vbnet_win_simplepreviewreport.zip available from the following location:

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime LICENCE

    I want to welcome everyone. It's my first post on this forum.
    I want to provide my Windows Form application to a client. This application was written in VS 2010 and it uses SAP Crystal Reports for generating simple report.
    I've read [Crystal Reports Licensing Explained|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/10cd9e15-120d-2c10-3fb5-be299000b6b7&utm_source=crvs2010&utm_medium=lp&utm_campaign=licensing_explained] pdf and I've learnt that in my case redistribution of software that embeds the Crystal Reports runtime engine is free.
    My question is:
    Is there something else I must include in my application package for instance a licence file? Or maybe I just have to include SAP CR runtime or ask user to download it from the SAP web site and that's it?
    Marcin

    Hello Marcin,
    Welcome.
    Please note that whenever you distribute your application (which uses Crystal reports) to others who may not have Crystal designer product, you need to provide the runtimes along with the application. The runtimes provide the necessary dlls in the machine for running Crystal inside the app.
    You can use an exe to install the CR runtimes and then deploy your app. OR you can include the msm files and create a deployment package.
    You will get the runtimes for CR4VS2010 [here|/people/coy.yonce/blog/2010/11/12/crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2010-production-release-now-availableCystlR%2528SAPWeblogs%253ACrystal+Reports%2529].

  • Image Quality In Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

    I am using the new production release of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 and I am having an issue with image quality when adding an image to a crystal report.
    The image itself is a .TIF file,  and when opened in Windows, the quality of the image, which is mostly text, is very high. The image was created from a electronic PDF form and I intend to use this as a background for the crystal report, over which I will place data fields.
    As soon as the image is added to the report you can see the degradation in quality in the design window and in the preview window within visual studio. The quality remains low when viewing the report in the WPF report viewer and when printing from this control.
    I have ensured the "Retain Original Image Color Depth" option is checked but this has made no difference (the image is black and white anyway).
    The image in the report has been left at its native size, no resizing at all. The image is 355KB in size if that's relevant.
    Is there a reason the image looses quality when added to a report? Is it being compressed? More importantly, is there a way to make the image retain its native quality when adding it to a crystal report?
    Thanks in advance.

    The following image is the image I am trying to display. Although imageshack has converted it to a png, if you right click and save the image you can open it and zoom in with little image degradation.
    http://img132.imageshack.us/i/j301.png
    The following is a screen shot of how the tif file looks in the designer when zooming in:
    http://img138.imageshack.us/i/j30lowquantity.jpg
    The second image has lost its clarity and is unusable when printing.
    I hope this helps.

  • Disabling copy feature in Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP2

    Hi ,
    When I tried Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP2 , I saw a new feature which allows user to copy content of the report after selecting it. I am using .net 4.0 winform application. I want to suppress this feature. I want the selection of objects in report to work as earlier version.  I could hide the copy icon in toolbar . But that doesn't change the way selections happens in the report . Please tell me how to suppress the copy feature completely when we use SP2 ?

    Hi Jijo Paul,
    We found a hidden method to disable the copy as it used to be. It is hidden meaning it's not supported so if you run into any problems using it or if it gets removed there is nothing we can do for you but give this a try:
    // this hides the button and disables the CTRL C command
    crystalReportViewer1.ShowCopyButton = false;
    crystalReportViewer1.SelectionMode = CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.SelectionMode.None;
    Thanks again

  • Side by side installation Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 - CRXIR2 ?

    we are integrating Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 into our C++ application.
    We used to work with CRXIR2.
    A customer of ours has upgraded to the VS2010 runtime version for 64-bit,
    and seems to be having random crashes.
    We haven't been able to pinpoint the problem...
    They are running several of our applications simultaniously on terminal servers.
    What we noticed is that they did not uninstall CRXIR2 from there system.
    Is this side-by-side installation supported?
    So XIR2 next to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010  ?
    And even: can you have a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010  64bit next to a 32bit? Probably yes?
    Next to that: is there any limit of concurrent users (applications) that use the .NET component?
    I would think not...
    Bart

    Hi Bart,
    Side by side installation shouldn't be a problem, unless you had Beta version of CRVS2010 installed on the same machine.
    For better results try upgrading to use SP1 of CRVS2010. For CRVS2010 resources, you can go through this

    I haven't seen any problem with 64bit next to a 32bit til date.

    Hello,
    You can find all of the info for CR for VS 2010 here: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/crystalreports-dotnet
    Including the deployment packages etc., distributing the runtime manually is not supported nor has anyone that I know of ever done it successfully.
    Make sure you use the Full Framework when building your project and set your project for X86 or x64 only and not the default AnyCPU.
    You can use CR with 2.0 framework, actually it still has a dependency on 2.0 framework.
    Microsoft doesn't support it as they did in previous versions of VS .NET because it's not installed with VS now. It's fully support by SAP now.
    Thank you

  • License - crystal report for visual studio 2010

    Hi Engineers
    i have a licensed version of visual studio 2010. but vs 2010 not included crystal report. i had download crystal report from SAP website,
    My question is
    if i deployed my .net windows application to my customer ,  take any license for crystal report for visual studio 2010 version?????????.
    crystal report for visual studio 2010 is a free version for developement and deployement???????????? tell me please
    If its not a free version tell me the price for crystal report for visual studio 2010 version.
    tks Engineers
    A.Lemudhas

    I'm still having problems with this registration issue.
    I'm using InstallShield 2011 for the installation setup.
    I've included the CRRuntime_13_0.msm file.  (That is the only MSM file I included, are the others needed also?)
    I've included the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64 and the x86 versions)
    I have tried to do a test install on both a 64bit and a 32bit Windows 7 computer and it keeps giving me the crtslv.dll failed to register error on both computers.  I thought it might just be due to the 32 bit MSM causing the problem on the 64bit computer, but I can't even get it to install on a 32bit computer.  (On the 32bit computer, I even removed the x64 bit version of the MS C++ 2005 Redistributable just to make sure it wasn't causing a problem).
    Can anyone give me any more suggestions?
    I need our application to be installed on both 32bit and 64bit computers.  Is only having the 32bit MSM going to cause me problems?  I'm not real familiar with trying to include the runtime exe's instead of the MSM and knowing which one would need to be installed on a particular type computer.

  • Error in upgrade Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 to SP1

    During the installation of SP1 of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (RTM was already installed) I got an error message saying:
    Error 2753. The file "agent.exe.6ED28686_7B19_420C_B255_5B6C1BD2C705" is not marked for installation.
    After a rerun of the setup program (choosing reinstall) the message did not re-appear.
    It happens on Windows 7 x64 with Visual Studio 2010 SP1
    Is this a bug in the installation or an "undocumented feature"?
    Regards,
    Adri

    Hi Adri,
    I had that error once and one other poster also had it. Like you I just re-installed and no error on the second round.
    I believe it was some Windows Process had the file locked for some reason. It's not a bug or "undocumented feature" it's a Windows OS thingy....
    Before uninstalling anything it may be a recommendation to reboot first and not load anything that may be locking dependencies.
    How many times have you seen this?
    Thank you

  • Crystal Report 13 Visual Studio 2010 SQL Server 2008 R2 ODBC Problem

    Hi Everybody,
    I am new in Crystal Report.
    I developed a web application in Visual Studio 2010, and my Database is SQL Server 2008 R2.
    I created reports using Crystal Report 13 in Visual Studio and my Operating System is Windows 7 32-Bit.
    I used ODBC Connection System DNS for my application.
    It is running fine even after Hosting on my local PC.
    But it creates problem when hosted on my Team Leader PC and Test Server.
    Their Configurations are same but only difference is "SQL Server 2008" Not R2
    The Error I am getting is "Failed to open the connection".
    When I Host the same on my another team member PC, I am getting the error like
    "Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 4060 ] Database Connector Error: ' [Database Vendor Code: 4060 ]' Failed to open the connection. Failed to open the connection. TestVr {CE268132-D2BD-43EC-BE45-0BCD847FBCDA}.rpt Details: [Database Vendor Code: 4060 ]"
    I tried various solution to fix this bug.
    But i am unable to do this and not getting any idea to fix this issue.
    If anyone can guide I will be thankful to him.
    All suggestions are appreciable.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Please use the top right search box. for ex below search which will return many useful kb's, articlea and forum threads where simillar issues are discussed.
    [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=failedtoopentheconnection|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=failedtoopentheconnection]
    Most probably the issue is missing database client driver / provider.
    Install the driver used to connect the rpt to the db on the server and then create a 32 bit DSN with the same name as the dev machine..
    Hope this helps,
    Bhushan.

  • Crystal Report in Visual Studio 2010

    Hello,
    Our company is using Crystal Report XIR2. We are going to migrate our applications using Crystal Report to Windows Server 2008 (64-bit), we have to upgrade the Crystal Report too as current version does not support 64-bit version. Which version of Crystal Report will be bundled in Visual Studio 2010? CR 2008 or a newer version?
    Many thanks,
    Peter

    "Unknown". Certainly, at this time the info is not available publicly. It may even be the CR is not part of future builds of .NET (?). On the other hand, going by how these bundles have gone in the past, I'd suspect if there is a CR bundle or an add on of some sort, it will be what ever will be the current version minus 1. Will it be as fully featured as the currently shipping CR 2008? Again, go by past bundles. (E.g.; if there is something like CR 2010 out there, the bundle would probably be some variation of CR 2008). Will it be 64 bit? Again, consider the history; bundles that come with .NET 2005 and .NET 2008.

    These are my personal speculations and conclusions and are not meant to be interpreted as the "official" word from SAP.

  • Using Crystal Reports with Visual Studio 2008

    I have bin using visual studio 2008 for a while. I have just started using Crystal Report (which came with Visual studio) . I have an Access database connected with 3 tables, the first two table has two test fields and one index field, the third table has two text fields and two index field (of which one relates too one of the other tables).
    I have generated a crystal report on one of the tables using the wizard. I have then placed the crystalreportviewer in a form (as a test). When I run the resulting form, all I get is the column heading label but no fields being displayed. There is data in the table. All I need to know is how do is make sure that the reports are accessing the data in the table, through the datasets???.

  • Crystal reports for visual studio 2010

    Since Visual studio 2010 came out, Crystal Reports is no longer included. I know that Crystal Reports is a free download for Visual Studio 2010, but it is not clear to me which download to use.  There are Downloads as follows:
    Complete
    Click once
    merge modules
    Redist Installation (32 bit)
    Redist Installation (64 bit)
    I have a 64 bit computer for development but would deploy visual basic programs with crystal reports on networks with both 64 bit and 32 bit workstations.  I am unclear on which options to download and which upgrades to install.
    Can you suggest a source of information which would cover such information?
    Thanks, Bill

    Hi Bill,
    To integrate CR for VS 2010 into Visual Studio download and run the Complete file.
    Then depending on the app platform, x86 or x64 you are going to use depends on which redist package you deploy.
    Set your project for either x86 or x64, do not set it for AnyCPU. MSI Exec will install x64 if the OS detected is 64 bits. If your project is 32 bit then x64 won't work of course. Better to build 2 deployment projects if you are going to support both.
    Although be aware that if you do use x64 all of the dependencies must also be 64 bit versions including the DB Client as well as the Printers.
    Also required is the Framework must be set to the Full version in your project, not the Client.
    And there are a few variations on the above info if you are creating a WEB app.

  • Stand Alone Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

    I wish to use the stand alone product to edit Crystal Report .rpt files created with Visual Studio 2010
    Is CR 2011 stand alone.product the right tool?
    Using CR 2008, I receive a warning message if I open a .rpt created al VS 2010.
    Likewise, if I import the edited .rpt file to VS, another message pop ups saying that it will be updated to a newer version.
    Thank you in advance
    Edited by: Roberto Mirelman on Oct 21, 2011 2:59 PM

    You are correct.
    CR 2011 reports can be run in CR for VS 2010.
    Technically you can still use CR 2008 to edit your reports and shouldnt see any problems other than getting the prompt all the time.  I am not sure if using CR 2011 will cause prompting as well so you may want to try it our using the trial version first.
