Using data dictionary
Hi everyone,
I am a new user to Oracle 10g XE.
I would like to know if there is any way for me to list the size of each object in my current schema follow by the object name.
Any advice / help would be appreciated.
Regards
Hello,
You may use the following query:
connect <schema_user>/<password>
select segment_name, segment_type, bytes/(1024*1024) "MB"
from user_segments
order by bytes desc;It will list all the Segments (Tables, Index, ...) belonging to the current Schema from the largest one to the smallest one.
The View user_segments has also a column tablespace_name which can give you the name of the Tablespace where the Segment is stored.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

Using data dictionary in PL/SQL
What people think about using data dictionary in PL/SQL witch supposed to be used for a long time (selects, type declarations and so on)?
Oracle does not guarantee data dictionary names will be same forever.
Is it a good idea to restrict the using of this in the Development standards?The reason I open this thread I am trying to improve the Development Standards
My attempt was to restrict using SELECT FROM Data Dictionary if it is possible.
Here are examples, what I trying to figure out
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT ('USERENV', 'DB_NAME')
FROM DUAL;
or
SELECT VALUE
FROM gv$parameter
WHERE NAME = 'db_name';
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT ('USERENV', 'CURRENT_SCHEMAID')
FROM DUAL;
or
SELECT user#
FROM SYS.user$
WHERE NAME = USER;
I am not asking ‘Can I...?’ I am asking ‘What people think?’
Probably, it is not an issue. -
Add multiple entries to dropdown list without using data dictionary
Hi,
By default when we use a data dictionary element for dropdown list, all the possible values are listed in the dropdown. However when no data dictionary element is used for the dropdown list, it behaves like a parameter with a single line.
I would like to know if it is possible to not use the data dictionary element and still have multiple lines in the dropdown.
Thanks in advance.

Query to obtain tables in SH schema using data-dictionary views/tables.
Hi,
I have just installed Oracle 10g Database. Logged on to SQL Plus by scott (changed the password as prompted).
I want to see the tables in SH schema (which comes by default with Oracle 10g database).
The problem, I am facing is:
I can see the schema name: SH in the result of the below query:
SELECT * FROM ALL_USERS
but, nothing is returned in the result of the below query:
SQL> SELECT OWNER FROM ALL_TABLES WHERE OWNER='SH';
Result: no rows selected.
Why is this happening?
What will be the correct query to obtain tables present in SH schema ?
Thanks in Advance & Regards,
Deebaconn /as sysdba
SQL> select table_name from dba_tables where owner='SH';
I think the user SCOTT have no privilege to see SH schema tables through all_tables view.

Result_cache and data dictionary views
Hi,
Are there any special considerations when caching the results of a function which uses data dictionary views to determine it's results?
This question has popped because I have a such a result_cached function for which the result_cache objects are not getting invalidated even when the underlying data dictionary views have changed and the function gives 'stale' values in it's output. Adding the relies_on clause has not helped either.
Here is what I am trying to do:
The function accepts table name as its input and tries to determine all the child tables using the sys.dba_constraints view. The results are returned in a pl/sql table and are cached so that the subsequent calls to this function use the result_cache.
Everything works fine for the parent/child tables which have been created before the creation of this function. All the results are correct.
The problem starts when a new child table is added to an existing parent table.
The v$result_cache_objects view shows the result of this function as 'Published' and the output of the function does not show the newly created child table.
Same is the case when an existing child table is deleted; the function continues to return it in the output as it is pulled from the result_cache.

Restrictions on Result-Cached Functions*
To be result-cached, a function must meet all of these criteria:
* It is not defined in a module that has invoker's rights or in an anonymous block.
* It is not a pipelined table function.
* It does not reference dictionary tables, temporary tables, sequences, or nondeterministic SQL functions.
For more information, see Oracle Database Performance Tuning Guide.
* It has no OUT or IN OUT parameters.
* No IN parameter has one of these types:
o BLOB
o CLOB
o NCLOB
o REF CURSOR
o Collection
o Object
o Record
* The return type is none of these:
o BLOB
o CLOB
o NCLOB
o REF CURSOR
o Object
o Record or PL/SQL collection that contains an unsupported return type
It is recommended that a result-cached function also meet these criteria:
* It has no side effects.
For information about side effects, see "Subprogram Side Effects".
* It does not depend on session-specific settings.
For more information, see "Making Result-Cached Functions Handle Session-Specific Settings".
* It does not depend on session-specific application contexts.

Dynamic Forms (Data Dictionary) using CFForm (??)
Hi,
The basic plan is to build the forms in my application
dynamically using a data dictionary rather than basing them upon
static tables and having statically coded forms to match. This
would allow me to offer the ability for an administrator to add new
fields if required (client 'requirements' are hard to pin down and
may therefore change).
I'm developing using CF8 (hoping it will be released real
soon..;-).). Application will be structured using Fusebox 5.
I've tried building up the form elements (<cfinput>
& etc) off in CFC, returning the layout result code in a
content variable, and its not working.
I have some other approaches to try, but this one would be
preferable.
Has anyone else tried this - and do you have any advice to
offer (or am I just crazy trying it because there is no way its
going to work ?)
Thanks
Bryn50This approach works well using standard html forms and html
form controls such as <input> and <select> etc.
I'm wanting to use CFFORM (for the first time in a long time)
for the functionality on offer (such as flash forms).
As I saw elsewhere, I have not used this in a verrry long
time because generally I've found it inflexible and the validation
on offer is a tiny subset of what is generally needed. I'm kinda
hoping to be able to overcome that this time around by adding my
own javascript validation when necessary.
I have some ideas for approaches that might work, but they
don't seem like very good ones to me:
1/. might be to try using standard html form controls inside
a cfform. Can I still have it display using flash ?
2/. might be to have all of the logic that selects the
appropriate cfform control for a given field in the same file as
the cfform, however that seems so unelegant and also it defies the
MVC/fusebox 5 approach I'm also wanting to use.
Thanks for your help...
Cheers, -

Creating data dictionary type using custom java class
Hi Experts,
I have a situation involving the TableSorter mechanism as described here:
In order to do my sorting correctly, I've created my own Java class implementing the Comparable interface. Based on this class, I need to define my own data dictionary type to be used in a context/table.
However, I cannot se how this could be achieved as standard Data Dictionary elements can only be based on simple built-in types. Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Rasmus Røjkjær ØrtoftHi,
have you tried to use the following steps while creating your attribute
1) Right click on the context
2) New->Attribute
3) Manually-> Provide a name for the attribute
4) Browse->Select java native type and select your class

How to run sql scripts using batch file for a web dynpro data dictionary
Hi,
I want to develop a sql script to be executed on the server alongwith the installation of a product to pre-populate web dynpro data dictionary tables required for the application.
I further require to make the scripts independent of the database name,so that it can be run at any client environment.
Your help will be appreciated and rewarded.See shoblock's answer
call sql script from unix
masterfile.sql:
@file1 &1
@file2 &2
@file3 &3
@file4 &4
then just call the master script:
sqlplus userid/password @masterfile <p1> <p2> <p3> <p4> -
Select schemas from relational model on import from data dictionary option
Hi All,
I have one relational model with 3 diferent schemas,
I want to compare one of my schemas with the data dictionary I have in a database,
I select the import option in the general file menu, select from data dictionary option,
select the connection from my database,swap target model checked,select a physical model and select the objects i want to compare from the database,
My problem is that the result is the comparison between all the objects in my model and the objects in the database that I have selected,
what I really want is to compare a list of objects in my model to a list of objects in my database,
this could be possible? or always need to compare all the objects of the model?
Thanks in advanceHi jbellver,
there is no any development in DM 3.1.0.691 on that problem. In production release you'll be able to compare objects in subview with database or just to select several objects and compare them with database. And of course "generate in DDl" filtering still can be used - it works at "Compare dialog" level.

How to find out the aligning Data dictionary table for a structure.
Hi
As the table controls are associated with strucures, the data input goes to the data dictionary table aligned to that structure. Is there any way we can find out the table related to that particular structure ?
Thanks,
DhareppaHi,
The structure and its fields may be associated with multiple database tables.
You can try by where-used list of the structure/field and then you can look and determine the table by hit and try method.
Also as suggested above you can try get the SQL trace and then ypu can look for table associated behind the structure/fields I believe this is the best way to find the DB table.
Thanks,
Ravi -
After posting something here a few days back about the myriad views needing to be digested for the Fund.I Exam, I have just gleaned this lot from the Couchman book. No doubt some of the pros out there may well correct me, but this is simple what I have collected from the book, in the last 3 hours. Cheers.

Can we change the lengh of a field in thestandard database tables using dat
Hi Experts,
I've a doubt in Data dictionary. can we modify the length of the field in data base tables using stanadrd table.
My requirement is add customer data to business are field. but the lengh of business area field is 4 chars.and the customer field length is 10.So in sap note i've found a solution is there a table call replacement of business area(FLQGSBER_SUBST).in this first we've append the customer field to this table.then the structure of business area should be modified.
can we modify the length of the standard table field?
its an urjent issue
reward points for helpful answers
thanks in advance

RekhaHi,

But there is solution i've found in SAP note is 'There is a standard table for business area called "FLQGSBER_SUBST" Replacement of business area.In this table we've to append the field.for ex here we've append the customer (kunnr) and
the field business area field has no data. when we append the customer field then the data in customer field updated in business area field.when i've tried this
and when execute this.in debugging the businee area updated with 4 chars only.
