chapter on how to use Developer agasint DB2/400. Is there
information on how to use Oracle Developer gainst DB2 running on

Hi Anton,
I've just tried your suggestion. I've commented out the CODEPAGE and UNICODE values in my Array and placed:
saprfc_set_code_page($rfc, "4103");
after the
$rfc = saprfc_open ($LOGIN);
The error message I get now is:

• ORACLE AGAINST DB2

Hello everybody,
in my company, we are running our SAP mission critical application on HP-UX systems based on Itanium tecnology.
We are using Oracle database. Oracle recently announced that it won't release anymore the Itanium certification for new versions (starting from version 12).
So, all people using Itanium with Oracle  platform have to decide the way to follow for the middle-long term.
A solution should be to migrate the SAP installation from Oracle to DB2.
Can someone tell me which is the SAP position on that topic (ORACLE or DB2) and  if there are benchmarks to compare SAP systems using Oracle and DB2?
Thanks in advance
Augusto

> A solution should be to migrate the SAP installation from Oracle to DB2.
Yes, or migrate to MaxDB on HP-UX, Sybase ASE on HP-UX or Windows with SQL Server
Keep in mind that IBM may to a likewise step as Oracle in the future and stop developing DB2 on HP-UX/IA64 because the marketshare is decreasing even more.
To stay with Oracle you could also migrate to Linux (on x86_64) and Oracle so you can keep your database.
> Can someone tell me which is the SAP position on that topic (ORACLE or DB2) and  if there are benchmarks to compare SAP systems using Oracle and DB2?
http://www.sap.com/benchmarks
Generally all databases available and released for SAP products can be treated more or less "similar" in sense of performance. If you check the benchmarks there's not a big difference between the databases. It's more a question of features and eventually maintenance fees.

• Question about doing application development against older versions of Access

I'll be working on a MS Access 2007 application written by someone else, whose no longer here. I've no experience writing MS Access applications, however I've used MS Access several times through the years as a desktop database. Therefore I know it's possible
to open an older Access database, say Access 2007, with a newer version of Access. You can bring up tables, query definitions, etc. and do normal database things in newer versions of Access against older .mdb's or .accdb's.
What I don't know is if it is possible to also do development against older versions of Access. Can I have MS Access 2013 on my development PC, but open a MS Access 2007 database with the Access application in it, and do development? Or will Access 2013
insist that I upgrade the older database file to Access 2013?
Rod

One can definitely open and use it with Access 2013 (note - we haven't gotten to 'develop' it yet.....)
Generally an app written with the 2007 edition is going to be a .accdb file - but it is possible it is the older .mdb file format.
In development is your issue; the latest edition has newer features that the older edition can't possibly know about.  Nothing unique about Access on this point.  It just is.  So if you invoke any of those - then you'll lose your backward
ability as a 2007 user won't be able to open it.
I definitely have tried to open an app in 07 only to receive a 'not recognized' type error message - and moved that app over to my 13 machine where it opened fine....and was never able to find which feature unique to 13 was the culprit....
So if you tread cautiously you can be okay - and while I think I know the features that differentiate the products, I still prefer to play it safe and do all development in the edition that is used.

• Saving a PDF or DOC file into Oracle 9i using Developer Forms 10g

Hi guys,
I want to save a pdf or doc file into oracle 9i. I am using Developer 10 g. Please help me;
1. What datatype field should be in database table to store such file.
2. Which code should I use in Forms 10g to display open file dialog, get the name and save that into database table.
Thanks in advance

WEBUTIL is a library used with forms to interact with the client. With Forms10G the library comes shipped with the developer suite, for forms 9i i'm not sure, check the forms-page at otn if there is any download available. For documentation about how to do a file-upload, simply search the forum, there are lots of examples.

• Help me : Multifile upload using developer toolbox

hi
i m trying to build a file storage site and i did everything using developer toolbox. and now i stuck up with multifile upload using Development toolbox. please some help how to setup step by step.
Thank you

Make sure you are using the right java card library version (JavaCard and OpenCard version).
Most cards only support jc2.1.2 - in opposite of the emulator which was designed for jc2.2.1.

Yes, it's possible and it runs.
You will need:
- Application Server 4.0.7 or above (with 4.0.7 without patch,
do not install it on Win NT with SP4, it doesn't run
- Developer Server (may be it is not on your distribution CD for
Developer, but you can download or order it from OTN)
- JInitiator (the Oracle Java PlugIn, also available from otn)
for your end user's browser
Tip:
look very carefully at the documentation AND readmes. Also, if
you do this job for the first time, be prepared for some days of
work before your first form runs as a java applet...

• Applet using COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver

Hi,
I have an applet that is downloaded from a webserver which then needs to access the local db2java.zip file. It was my understanding if you use the COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver it would allow you to access the local copy of that file in your classpath. I also understand that if you use COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.net.DB2Driver you can access the db2java.zip on the server. I unfortunately need to access the local db2java.zip file. I am upgrading from Java 1.2.2 to Java 1.3.1 and it is not allowing this connection. I also changed my java.policy file and have created my own certificate as well, I understand all that.
Here is the section of my code that fails...
java.sql.Driver d = (java.sql.Driver) Class.forName(getDriver()).newInstance();
WHSConnection.con = DriverManager.getConnection(getURL(), getUser(), getPassword());
WHSConnection.con.setAutoCommit(true);
System.out.println("Database Connection Successful");
} catch (java.lang.Throwable except) {
except.printStackTrace();
System.out.println("Database Connection Failed");
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks ~A

Yes, I forgot to mention that I stopped all DB2 Services and ran the file "runjdbc2.bat"... When I run Java 1.2.2 everything works great. When I run 1.3.1 it attempts to locate the db2java.zip classes on the server and not locally... Here is the error message I receive...

• Sort Dimension descending using developer tool

Hi,
i have a alpha-numeric property in endeca, we need to sort it descending, can we achieve this using developer studio.
i was able to sort it ascending order, not seeing any field in developer studio to sort descending order
Thanks,
Tijo

Hi Mathew,
If you want to sort dimension in descending order one way to do this is add following in "appname.refinement_config.xml"
<REFINEMENTS NAME="price" SORT_TYPE="NUMERIC" SORT_ORDER="DESC">
<STATS NUM_RECORDS="FALSE"/>
</REFINEMENTS>
This way we get dimension values in descending order.
Please Note Whenever you have the pipeline in the developer studio this mapping gets removed, so you need to add it again before you run the baseline.

• Creating JCo connections while using Developer workplace

Hi All,
Before using Developer workplace, I used to create JCo connections in the Web Dynpro Content administrator of the corresponding portal. We have Developer workplace set up over here. The application runs on the J2EE engine of the Developer workplace but where does it get deployed ??
I asked the person who set up the developer workplace over here and he says the workplace does not point to any portal. Any idea ???
Thanks,
Tom

Hi tom,
          Webdynpro all application deployed to webdynpro container ia part of j2ee engine. To create JCO Destination first of all you have to set up SLD.
