Subject: Using Drop-Down List in Express Application
On an Express generated Form window I want to use a drop-down list to
define the list of valid values for a database field. The underlying
database field could have a datatype of either integer or character.
For example, on the database we have a Gender column defined. I want to
use a drop-down list that displays descriptions of "Male" and "Female" for
allowed database values of "M" and "F". The Gender column is updateable on
the window.
Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Would we need to do anything
different on Array windows?

RE: Using Drop-Down List in Express Application
The easiest way to do this is to define a domain for Gender that maps to
a droplist widget. ForteExpress will then automatically display the
widget in any ArrayWindow or FormWindow in which Gender appears. (I
don't think outlinefields support this widget.) There is a documented
customization for adding SQL to the domain to automatically fill it, but
we've found this to be a performance drag. What we usually do is cache
this type of list information on the client, usually by loading it into
arrays of listelement in a service object at user logon. The list is
then ready to go whenever a window needs it, and you can set the element
list of the droplist in PostOpenInit or wherever it seems appropriate.

Missing Export and Use Drop Down Lists
I cannot export my .mov files to any format other than .mov as the Export and Use drop down lists are missing. When I go to File > Export the text for Export and Use are there followed by blank gray space as if the drop down lists never existed.
I just upgraded to Pro today and had infrequently used QuickTime Player previously. I have the most current version 7.6.5. The other functions appear to be working normally, but I am not a "familiar user" so I can't say for sure.
Any ideas?Well I could not copy & paste the text from the Movie Inspector, so I have typed it below (except for the complete source info).
Source: C:\....Filename.MOV
Format: 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 44.100 KHz
MPEG-4 Video, 1280 x 720, Millions
Movie FPS: 30.01
Playing FPS: 30.01
Data Size: 8.16 MB
Data Rate: 6.99 mbits/sec
Current Time: 00:00:00.00
Duration: 00:00:09.80
Normal Size: 1280 x 720 pixels
Current Size: 1280 x 720 pixels
I have also downloaded a couple of iPod hip-hop ad movies (.mov) and they have the same problem (no export drop-down lists), so I don't believe it is the movie format.
I have not tried to uninstall/reinstall QuickTime Pro yet, but wonder if I should.... -
How to display information from database using drop down list in JSP?
Hi all.
Like the tile above suggest, I'm having difficulty in obtaining the data as well as displaying them in a drop down list.
For example: If i were to have the following in my database:
SerialNo Food
1 Bread
2 Milk
3 Butter
The drop down list should look like the following:
[Bread][\/]
[Milk]
[Butter]
How do i go around coding it in JSP?
Thanks in advance.

Need help using drop down list to calculate fields
I am trying to use a drop down list to control how my field calculate. I have events packages that have multiple tiers. For example, Package One has (2) Tiers. Tier 1 costs $16 & Tier 2 costs $20. So based on the number of guests i want to be able to select the tier and it multiply and give me the total cost for the package. Ex: 2 Guests for Tier 1 = $32. Here is the code i have so far, it is placed under the change handler of the drop down list:
var costPerGuest = 16;
var tier = event.newText;
if (tier == "Tier 1"){
costPerGuest = 16;}
else if (tier == "Tier 2"){
costPerGuest = 20;}
Total.rawValue = String(Guests.rawValue * costPerGuest)
//Total.rawValue = DropDownList1.rawValue;
What happens is when I run this it will not change unless the number of guests will change. So for the example above, if i switch it to Tier 2 after selecting Tier 1, it will not change my Total from $32 to $40.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hi,
I think ,you can use the event of EXIT event of dropdown list.
var costPerGuest = 0;
if (this.rawValue == "Tier1")
costPerGuest = 16;
else if (this.rawValue == "Tier2")
costPerGuest = 20;
else
total.rawValue = Guests.rawValue * costPerGuest;
Hope this helps,

Restricting the values in Drop Down list for ESS application
Hello Experts,
We are trying to restrict the values in the drop down list box for payment method field for direct deposit iview.
Here Payment is the Zlsch field.
here we are trying to have only 3 vlaues in the drop down. Do I have to do it from java code or can this be restricted on the ECC side?
Plese let me know.
Thanks,
James.James,
What you have to do is create a DropDown ByIndex element instead of by Key and create a context node PaymentMethodNode and a value attribute PaymentAttribute under it ....then write the following code in the wdDoInit() method as :
//Add whatever values you want in the DropDown
String[] priority_options= new String[]{"Payroll/Corp/Partner Check","Employee Payroll ACH(PPD)"};
List ListOfPriorities = new ArrayList();
for(int i=0;i<priority_options.length;i++)
IPrivateDetailView.IPayment_MethodNodeElement pr= wdContext.createPayment_MethodNodeElement();
pr.setPaymentAttribute(priority_options);
ListOfPriorities.add(pr);
wdContext.nodePayment_MethodNode().bind(ListOfPriorities);
for(int e=0;e<wdContext.nodePayment_MethodNode().size();++e)
wdContext.nodePayment_MethodNode().setSelected(e,e>=0 && e<=1);
and then write the following code in wdDoModifyView() method:
IWDDropDownByIndex di =(IWDDropDownByIndex)view.getElement("DropDownByIndex");
di.bindTexts("Payment_MethodNode.PaymentAttribute");
then create an Action and bind it to the onselect property of the DropDown and write the following code in the onAction method :
if(wdContext.currentPayment_MethodNodeElement().getPaymentAttribute().equalsIgnoreCase("Payroll/Corp/Partner Check"))
wdContext.currentSelectedInfotypeElement().setZlsch("C");
else
wdContext.currentSelectedInfotypeElement().setZlsch("P");
I am sure it will work.. -
Using drop down list to set values in looped form
I've got a form which loops through (currently) 10 copies of an input form for assets

<cfselect name="assetRoom[1]">

<cfselect name="assetRoom[3]">

I'm after a way to be able to set assetModel[all] = "51" (which shouldn't be too difficult) but also to set [1] = 46, [2]=35, [3]=42 etc.
Current thinking is that I want to have a drop down box where I can select my all options and another to set where I want to copy the list of assets from another room as default values on this form.
There are approx 20 fields on each iteration of the field and I'll probably have about 10 fields at the top to set the values I'm after some ofthese affecting multiple form fields.
Thanks

Using drop down list value in jsp with AJAX
Hi All,
I am having a jsp page , which contains a dropdown list.
When user selects an item from the list, I've to pass this value to my java class to access other related information to be displayed on the same page without refreshing/submiting the page.
Now the problem is, i am getting selected value in java script function but how to use this variable & pass it to java class.
I googled a lot and found that AJAX could be used for it. Please suggest me that -
1) Whether AJAX is the only approch ? I am affraid of it bcoz I hvn't work on it.
2) Is there any other workaround by which i can use that value & call my java class method, without refreshing the page?
3) If I've to use AJAX, plz help me if u've similar example. I went through the w3 scool, but not getting much idea.
Kindly help me, the problem is very urgent with the strict timeline.
Thanks & Regards,

Ajax is such a broadly discussed topic, you have to be very bad at your work if you cannot find decent resources for it in the context of your problem domain.
To give you a hint, I suggest you look into JQuery. It is quite a popular Ajax javascript toolkit. -
Drop Down List - Setting the Default Selected Item
I have a drop down list in my application that gets populated by a remote database. When you select an item from the list, a screen full of thumbnails is populated based on the selection. We have decided that when the user gets to this component in our air application, that it looks too empty and barren. All that displays is a drop down list with an empty screen. So we would like to set a default setting for the drop down list so that when the user gets to this component, a screen full of thumbnails is awaiting them and they can change it if they want. My first instinct was just to set the selectedIndex property of the drop down list to the value that we want as the default, and that works, but it only changes the label in the dropdownlist, it doesn't actually populate the screen with the thumbnails. That is because when an item is selected, it has to be commited to the drop down list by a CLOSE event that then sets off the close handler that populates the screen with thumbnails. So after looking at the documentation, I found that there is a method called closeDropDown that states the following:
closeDropDown
method
public function closeDropDown(commit:Boolean):void
Close the drop-down list and dispatch a DropDownEvent.CLOSE event.
Parameters
commit:Boolean — If true, commit the selected data item.
When I use this method, nothing happens. In fact if I add a listener for the CLOSE event, the close event isn't getting fired. So I am a little befuddled. The only thing that I can figure is that I am setting the selectedIndex and not the selectedItem before I call the closeDropDown method, and if you look above, the documentation vaguely states that that "If true, commit the selected data item". Do I need to set the selectedItem and not the selectedIndex? If so, I am not exactly sure how to do this since I am using a service to populate my drop down list which kind of makes the dataprovider a little unclear to me in the code because it gets replaced by an AsyncListView. Here is what I have.
<fx:Script>

protected function dropDownList_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void{
getAllAudio_descriptionsResult.token = audiodescriptionsService.getAllAudio_descriptions();
getAllAudioResult.token = audioService.getAllAudio();
private function audioDescriptionsCallResponderHandler(event:ResultEvent):void {
audioDesc = event.result as ArrayCollection;
private function audioCallResponderHandler(event:ResultEvent):void {
audio = event.result as ArrayCollection;
audioDescDropDown.selectedIndex = 2;
audioDescDropDown.closeDropDown(true);

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<s:CallResponder id="getAllAudio_descriptionsResult" result="audioDescriptionsCallResponderHandler(event)"/>
<audiodescriptionsservice:AudiodescriptionsService id="audiodescriptionsService" fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)" showBusyCursor="true"/>
<s:CallResponder id="getAllAudioResult" result="audioCallResponderHandler(event)"/>
<audioservice:AudioService id="audioService" fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)" showBusyCursor="true"/>
</fx:Declarations>
<s:DropDownList id="audioDescDropDown" x="43" y="65" width="185" height="34" fontFamily="MyriadProSemiBold"
fontSize="15" skinClass="skins.VideoSkins.Video.DropDownSkin"
color="0xE6E6E6" selectionColor="0x054F7C" rollOverColor="0x007CBA"
creationComplete="dropDownList_creationCompleteHandler(event)" labelField="audioCatName"
itemRenderer="renderers.DropDownList3" close="DDLAudioCloseHandler(event)">
<s:AsyncListView list="{getAllAudio_descriptionsResult.lastResult}"/>
</s:DropDownList>
I would really appreciated hearing from anyone who has experience or insight into setting a default for a drop down list and actually forcing it to execute that default selection. Any thoughts at all would be helpful. Thanks!I don't see your close handler in the code you posted, so if you provided it and I missed seeing it, please forgive me. I'm a bit unclear on why the open and close of your dropdown list is so critical to your functionality. It seems to me that the page of data would be tied to the item selected in the drop down (which to my mind is the only purpose for the drop down to be there). So why do you first need to open and close the drop down, rather than just taking the selected value and doing whatever you'd normally do with it to populate that page?
What I'm getting at is that I'd expect that page to be a separate component that would just have a property for the selected "thing", and that you could populate it either manually, as I suggested, or through the close handler on your drop down--I wouldn't think that there should be a need to go through the close handler every time. Even if you don't have it implemented the way I'm thinking, you may want to think about whether you need to go through the close handler every time, or whether you could break it out so that the close handler simply determines which item to select, then jumps to another function that actually does something with the selected value. That way, you don't have to go through the overhead of opening and closing the drop down if you need to change its value programmatically.

How to create drop-down list in Portal??
My case: I have three locations A B C(in the database) for example.
I would like to use drop-down list to show list of All, A, B, and C.
After I choose any of them, for example A, it must show all the data of that particular location and if it is All it must show data of all three locations.
By using Simple Parameter, it's just a static one but I prefer the dynamic one that get directly from the database. And I also got a problem of showing all locations by choosing All in my dropdown menu
Any idea??!?
Thank you so much.You could try a dynamic page:

<ORACLE>
for rec in (select loc_code, loc_name from locations union select '-1' id, 'All' loc_name from dual)
loop
htp.p('' || rec.loc_name || '');
end loop;
<ORACLE>

The form should then call your page with a &location=loc_code in the url. Using a page parameter and a bound variable you can access that. You may need to use a decode in your sql to deal with the All scenario:

select ..... where loc_code like decode(:location, -1, loc_code, :location)

Hope this helps.
Can't set InfoPath 2010 Drop Down List field with C#
Hi Guys,
Here I go again, last time it was a date field, this time it is a drop down list. The applications does this: When the user comes into the form, they have the option of creating a new form via a hyperlink button on the top of the page, this button creates
a new IP Page of the same exact type of page that it is coming from. The issue I am having is that one of my fields called ddlStatus isn't coming up correctly in the copied form, not sure why? If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful. Here is a copy
of my code:
if (e.InputParameters !=
null)
System.Text.
StringBuilder status =
new System.Text.StringBuilder();
string ddlStatus =
string.Empty;
if (e.InputParameters.TryGetValue("ddlStatus",
out ddlStatus))
status.AppendLine(ddlStatus);
nav.SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:ddlStatus", NamespaceManager).SetValue(status.ToString());
Best regards, MikeWell, ok, so I set my code as such:
addStatus()
if (e.InputParameters !=
null)
System.Text.
StringBuilder status =
new System.Text.StringBuilder();
string ddlStatus =
string.Empty;
if (e.InputParameters.TryGetValue("ddlStatus",
out ddlStatus))
XPathNavigator nav1 = MainDataSource.CreateNavigator().SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group",
NamespaceManager);
nav1.SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group/my:DisplayName",
NamespaceManager).SetValue(status.ToString());
nav1.SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group/my:Value",
this.NamespaceManager).SetValue(status.ToString());
and I also created a new method called addStatus() which looks like this:
public
void addStatus()
try
SPSite site =
new
SPSite(http://MyTestBox);
SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb();
SPList list = web.Lists["Status"];
SPListItemCollection listitems = list.Items;
XPathNavigator nav =
this.CreateNavigator().
SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group",
this.NamespaceManager);//
Note: "/my:myFields/my:Countries" => Group Countries
foreach (SPListItem
li in listitems)
XPathNavigator newNode =
null;
newNode = nav.Clone();
newNode.SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group/my:DisplayName",this.NamespaceManager).SetValue(li["Title"].ToString());
newNode.SelectSingleNode(
"/my:myFields/my:secInfo/my:Group/my:Value",this.NamespaceManager).SetValue(li["Title"].ToString());
nav.InsertAfter(newNode);
newNode =
null;
nav.DeleteSelf();
nav =
null;
catch
but it still isn't working??

Creating drop-down list for prodname element in metadata causes errors
Frame 11
DITA 1.2
Due to restrictions beyond our control, we must use absurdly long product names. Therefore I want to use drop-down lists to make it easier for the authors to select a <prodname> in the metadata.
What I did:
1. In metaDecl.eddmod.fm, I created a new attribute and named it prod.
a. I made it the Choice, and Required.
b. The Choices currently are just Internal and RTVI for testing purposes. I'll put the absurdly long ones in when I have it working.
c. I have a Prefix rule of: In all contexts Prefix: Product Name: <$attribute[prod]>
2. I imported metaDecl.eddmod.fm to all of these EDDs:
In the base EDD folder:
basemap.edd.fm
basetopic.edd.fm
map.eddmod.fm
topic.eddmod.fm
In the technicalContent EDD folder:
concept.edd.fm
ditabase.edd.fm
generalTask.edd.fm
glossentry.edd.fm
glossgroup.edd.fm
reference.edd.fm
task.edd.fm
topic.edd.fm
3. I imported the element definitions into all of the following:
ChapterOutputTpl.fm
basemap.template.fm
basetopic.template.fm
basetopic.template.fm
topic.template.fm
generalTask.template.fm
glossentry.template.fm
glossgroup.template.fm
map.template.fm
ditabase.template.fm
reference.template.fm
concept.template.fm
task.template.fm
4. I imported the elememted definitions from task.template.fm into my test document (yes, it is a task topic).
What happened:
I get the following error message in the console:
XML Parser Messages (Document Instance)
Error at file H:\DITA_Westminster\Procedures - Our DITA\Inserting_Product_Names_Versions_In_Metadata\InsertingProductNamesAndVersionsInMetad ata.dita.82F, line 28, char 49, Message: Attribute 'prod' is not declared for element 'prodname'
Error at line 28, char 71, Message: Not enough elements to match content model '(prodname,vrmlist,((brand|component|featnum|platform|prognum|series))*)'
What I did next:
1. I removed all elements from the general rule of <prodinfo> with the exception of <prodname>. <prodinfo) is the one that had prodname, vrmlist, (brand|component|featnum|platform|prognum|series) in the general rule. I also did a thorough search to ensure that no other element had this same list of element in the general rule. I couldn't find any.
2. I did the import to the EDDs and templates thing again.
3. I got the same error message again. <sigh />
Question:
Why am I still getting those 2 error messages? They are driving me crazy.
MarshaAlex Gorly and Matt Sullivan solved one of my issues above:
Message: Attribute 'prod' is not declared for element 'prodname'
I'm still stumpled on the other one:
Message: Not enough elements to match content model '(prodname,vrmlist,((brand|component|featnum|platform|prognum|series) )*)'
As stated above, I've even removed everything from the general rule of <prodinfo> except prodname and I'm still getting the same error. I've searched everywhere for this general rule and <prodinfo> is the only place I can find it.
What I really want is: (prodname), (vrmlist)?, (brand | component | featnum | platform | prognum | series)*
so that vrmlist is optional.
No matter what I do, unless I include a vrmlist, I get the above message. Currently, our CMS can't handle vrmlist but I don't want to remove it altogether because we may be replacing our CMS.

How can I add categories to drop-down lists or check-boxes?
hello can I use sub categories or group items by labels when using drop-down lists or check-boxes?
You can't include sub-menus in a drop-down. What is possible, though, is to populate another drop-down based on the selection made in the first one, or use a pop-up menu. Both things require a script, though.
