Using facelets in existing JSF 1.2/JSP project?

Our current project consists of a lost of JSPs, some of which serve as place holders for other jsps which have been designed as subviews to be dropped into the holding jsps as required. In a lot of cases several JSPs differ in only one of the subview jsps which they display. So I see us having lots of Facelet templates. My question is, will every JSP need to be reworked in order to be able to work with Facelets? ie, an existing JSP which is just a subview and must be included in a holding JSP to be displayed, will this need to be modified much?

To be more exact, the problem could be custom and spring specific tag libraries instead of static includes. Even weblogic.appc is able to do the job, it would be useful when somebody could explain exact differences  (validations for example) between weblogic.appc and appc goal of weblogic 12.1.2 maven plugin. We would like to use maven plugin.

  • Using facelets and Visual web jsf frameworks together

    I am developing a new jsf application and I wanted to make the page navigation simpler like making the content pages independently using woodstock components and including them in the main template page.
    I have downloaded Facelets support plugin for netbeans and installed it. I have created a new project using the wizard and i specified the two (facelets and visual web jsf) as frameworks for use. But I failed to leverage my application with facelets because I don't know how to use woodstock components with facelets.
    I am new to jsf and i want the woodstock visual components. Can't I use facelets then?
    Plz help.

    I managed to find a workaround. Thought i should share it with those who are faced with a similar issue.
    I found that a bug report had been placed in the past with Apache Dev. However, they had said that they would not modify their logic because the servlet container spec requires it (even though isapi_redirector is only a connector and not a container). They said that there is no way for the isapi_redirector to differentiate between /foo/WEB-INF when foo is a context and when foo is just a sub-directory of the ROOT web application. So, the general consensus was to err on the side of safety and risk blocking a few requests that are valid.
    However, this causes a serious issue for those using NetBeans JSF Visual Web Projects. Hence, I created my own flavour of isapi_redirector by modifying the code such that this check is not performed and leaving the onus of checking on Tomcat.
    For those who are interested, the simplest way to go about this would be to force the function uri_is_web_inf (in jk_isapi_plugin.c ) to always return FALSE.

  • Panel Page in ADF Faces using Facelets not rendering correctly

    Hi, I am attempting to integrate facelets into a web app built using adf faces and am running into a problem with the panel page component. I have integrated facelets and adf faces without any problems by adding relevant jars (jsf-facelets and adf-facelets) to the project and specifying alternate facelets view handler in web.xml.
    However, when I try to render any component inside <af:document> or <af:html> tags, all the font style in components seems to be lost ( all the text and input fields turn large and ugly!).
    I tried to leave out the <af:document> tag and put the <f:view> inside some vanilla html instead, but then panelPage component dosen't render properly and I get following message on top of page :
    "Skip navigation elements to page contents"
    So seem to be in a bit of a catch 22. By the way, this all works fine if I don't use facelets (remove the facelets view handler from web.xml and page renders correctly).
    Does anyone have any ideas or examples of panelPage rendering correctly with facelets or an alternative to using adf faces html tags that will allow panelpage to be displayed?
    The following is the code from a simple test jspx page :
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1252'?>

    The problem was the <jsp:root> tag. Removed this tag and modified <af:document> to the following so that namespaces are declared :

    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"

  • Using facelets and javascript in dynamic regions

    Hello
    I'm using JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.4.0.
    In the JDeveloper's documentation I found that there is the best parctice to use facelets.
    Now, I have next problem.
    I use dynamic region iside xhtml (facelets) page. Inside that dynamic region there is a view (jsff).
    The problem is that I can't use any custom JavaScript in that jsff.
    I tried next thing:
                <trh:script id="trhs1">
                    <af:resource type="javascript">
                      testm = function (event) {
                      alert('qqq');
                    </af:resource>
               </trh:script>
    <af:clientListener method="testm" type="dblClick"/>If that task-flow is placed inside jspx (not facelets) page, then all works.
    If that task-flow is placed inside xhtm (facelets) page, I have an error from browser that javascript's 'testm' method is not defined.
    I checked source code of the result html-page, and my javascript code really doesn't exists there.
    I can fix it by moving javascript code from the taskflow's jsff to surrounding xhtml page or using jspx page, but, maybe, there is another solution?

    Thank for replay, Shay
    I found that in Web User Interface Developer's Guide for Oracle ADF, 2 Getting Started with ADF Faces, Section 2.4, "Creating a View Page":
    Best Practice: Use Facelets to take advantage of the following:
    The Facelets layer was created specifically for JSF, which results in reduced overhead and improved performance during tag compilation and execution.
    Facelets is considered the primary view definition technology in JSF 2.0.
    Some future performance enhancements will only be available with Facelets
    Now I have facelets page with dynamic region, it works.
    I've decided to use facelets because of the forthcoming JDeveloper with JSF 2.0 and for performance improvements described above.
    Do you think it's better to use jspx?
    I have not found any limitations for facelets in Web User Interface Developer's Guide for Oracle ADF and Fusion Developer's Guide for Oracle ADF

  • Can existing JSF apps import into JSC

    I have a a number of existing JSF applications that were manually created (JSP,code, etc)musing JSF 1.0 FCS. I have tried to import these into the visual designer JSC to look at how they would display but it seems that the JSF tags are aways stripped out of the html. Does the JSC allow for maintaining exising JSF 1.0 apps using the JSC toolset?
    Some things that suggest that this is not the case are:
    1) JSC uses CSS-P rather than tables for page layout
    2) JSC uses xhtml rather than html/jsp
    So it seems that the choices are either use the JSC or manually write your app using an html editor and a java editor.
    Is this true???

    I would like to confirm if this is a known issue in JSF:
    I have a JSF project, that used to run perfectly, but now,

    After spending hours on trying to figure out the problem, I created a new weblogic domain and now it works fine..... On another forum I saw a posting by another person with a similar problem, but the app server used was Sun One.
    Can you please answer the following questions:
    Has this problem been identified before?
    Is there a reason as to why this is happening?
    If so what is the solution (besides creating new domains).

  • Anyone using facelets with ADF Faces and myfaces implementation?

    There is a Howto document for using facelets with ADF Faces, but it assumes you're using Sun's RI. I'd like to use the Apache myfaces implementation of JSF with ADF and facelets, but I keep getting a NoSuchElementException thrown when the pages are accessed.

    Am I missing something? Has anyone gotten these three (ADF w/ myfaces impl and facelets) to work together properly?

    Hi,
    It is supposed to work fine and is working okay, in general, for me. I was setting up a test app yesterday and logged the steps in my blog (http://www.jroller.com/page/mjdenham). I think I logged everything.

  • Custom Tags Using Facelets

    I am trying to simplify a lot of pages by using Facelets and custom taglibs that are just .xhtml pages with other Standard JSF components inside them. My problem is not really related to that, but it gives a bit of background info: What I am trying to do is simplify the naming of binding and value attributes by trying to concatenate Strings to form a reference to a managed bean/property.
    I am trying to do something like this:
    <c:set var="componentVal" value="'#{formBinding}.#{formName}.#{componentName}'" />
    <c:set var="componentBind" value="'#{beanBinding}.#{formName}.#{componentName}'" />
    <h:inputText id="#{id}" value="#{componentVal}" binding="#{componentBind}" size="#{size}" />This comes after iterations of trying to just concatenate the bound variables (formBinding, formName, and componentName are defined earlier). Is this possible in JSF or am I barking up the wrong tree? I am trying to use this solution because we have one session-bound managed bean with different components for different tabs on the screen, and are accessed via a map, which makes the names quite long, and they only give us 17" monitors here, so, aside from making it cleaner, I will actually get to see what I am doing without scrolling all over the place.
    Thanks for any and all help/advice.

    I guess I could try some createobject code to see if it works on godaddy
    Would you be able to post some example code?
    Sure. Here is a simple test. If by some miracle that actually runs without error, you can find a .NET example in the documentation
    <cfset str = createObject("java", "java.lang.String").init("Test this")>
    <cfoutput>#str#</cfoutput>
    Also, find out what version of CF you are using. If it is CF8+ you are in business.
    <cfoutput>
    version #server.coldFUsion.ProductVersion#
    </cfoutput>

    Or he could create his own tag libraries, no? :)One supposes that, technically, one could create a taglib wrapper around an existing FTP library. There might be licensing issues with distributing that taglib wrapper.
    Of course, one could find the FTP RFC online, read it, and implement one's own FTP client implementation, complete with a tag library access point.

    1. Can I pass a parameter to the backing bean method from an "action" attribute:
    <h:commandLink action="#{TableData.SortRec}">
    <h:outputText value="#{msgs.selectedHeader}"/>
    </h:commandLink>
    I'd like to call the same method from several controls, but pass it a parameter to determine which field to sort on.
    2) Is there a way for a backing bean method to determine which control invoked it?
    3) Is there a way to access JSF backing bean methods from JSP tags. I'd like to do some conditional page assembly based on a JSF bean property... JSF doesn't appear to have a conditional like JSP's <c:if>, but I could use JSP's if it could access the JSF bean.

    Could you pl tell me how to pass parameter thru CommandButton
    I have the following situation
    1) greetingList.faces which list the Ids & greeting Text
    Id Text
    1 Hello World
    2 Hello World
    2) Pl note Ids are h:commandLink. A click on the Id will render greetingForm.faces with data pertaining to that Id and with Update h:CommandButton
    3) When i click Update button it results in the following error
    javax.faces.FacesException: Error calling action method of component with id greetingForm:_id4
    Caused by: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Exception while invoking expression #{greetingForm.update}
    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
    So i verified with h:message that Id is passed as Null when click on Update button. I also checked greetingForm.faces has a not null value by printing <h:outputText value="#{greetingForm.message.id}"/>
    So i guess the Id value is overwriteen with null. Also i have defined Id as property in managed bean
    <managed-bean-name>greetingForm</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>com.mycompany.GreetingForm</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>id</property-name>
    <value>#{param.id}</value>
    </managed-property>
    Any pointers/suggestions at the earliest on how to pass the value of Id on a click of update button from greetingForm.faces to greetingForm.java will be highly appreciated
    I am willing to upload my war file

  • HELP!!! Can't use sql:update in Netbeans Visual Web JSP

    I use Netbeans Visual Web in my project. I use Java DB database and Sun Java System Application Server 9.
    When i run my project, there is an error "The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request."
    Here is the codes:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <jsp:root version="1.2" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" xmlns:ui="http://www.sun.com/web/ui" xmlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" xmlns:sql="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/sql" >
    <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"/>
    <f:view>
    <ui:page binding="#{Page1.page1}" id="page1">
    <sql:update var="indata" dataSource="datasource">
    INSERT INTO "NBUSER"."user" ("Username") VALUES('jacky')
    </sql:update>
    <ui:html binding="#{Page1.html1}" id="html1">
    <ui:head binding="#{Page1.head1}" id="head1">
    <ui:link binding="#{Page1.link1}" id="link1" url="/resources/stylesheet.css"/>
    </ui:head>
    <ui:body binding="#{Page1.body1}" id="body1" style="-rave-layout: grid">
    <ui:form binding="#{Page1.form1}" id="form1"/>
    </ui:body>
    </ui:html>
    </ui:page>
    </f:view>
    </jsp:root>
    I can't store the data "jacky" into "Username" column in "user" table in database. Can anyone please let me know where is my mistake. Thanks.

    Maybe that SQL statement isn't valid. All those quotes look weird to me, but don't take that as meaning they are wrong. You should look in your server's logs to find out the actual error that occurred, rather than trying to guess what's wrong.

  • How to import existing jsp project into jdeveloper

    can someone help me how to import existing jsp project into jdeveloper?
    can give me step by step to import..cause i am new for jdeveloper..
    thank you very much

    Well there are two options - if you have a WAR file with the code in it, then you can use the file->import WAR.
    Or you can use the new->Project from source code.
    Note that you'll probably need to do some library settings and some directory setting after that.
    Have a look at this demo for basic steps:

  • Use of filter to JSF faces servlet

    Hi
    I have a JSF application which is secured by a custom security framework (similar to SITE MINDER). The security framework after authentication passes the authenticated user name within a in-memory session cookie.
    The entire user information like his group and access restrictions (field / UI compoonent level) resides in the application database
    I have used a filter to JSF Faces servlet to retrieve the user information from the database and storing in session.
    Is this use of filter a good approach?

    I would fetch such information only once and store it in a simple session scoped bean after a successful login, but I am weird for wanting to do things in a simple way.
    A filter can work to validate if the user is still "logged in" (IE. his/her session didn't expire), but since this is JSF you could also use a phase listener for such a purpose.

  • Using WHERE NOT EXISTS for a Fact Table Load

    I'm trying to set up a fact table load using T SQL, and I need to use WHERE NOT EXISTS. All of the fields from the fact table are listed in the WHERE NOT EXISTS clause. What I expect is that if the value of any one of the fields is different, that the whole
    record be treated as a new record, and inserted into the table. However, in my testing, when I 'force' a field value, new records are not inserted.
    The following is my query:
    declare
    @Created_By nchar(50)
    ,@Created_Date datetime --do we need utc check?
    ,@Updated_By nchar(50)

    so I set up a WHERE NOT EXIST condition as shown below. I ran the query, then updated Slot_Duration_Min to 5. Some of the Slot_Duration_Min values resolve to 15. What I expect is that when I run the query again, that the records where Slot_Duration_Min resolves
    to 15 should be inserted again, but they are not. I am using or with the conditions in the WHERE clause because if any one of the values is different, then a new record needs to be inserted:
