Using filewriters to write to an already opened file

Hi,
I have used a filewriter to write some message to a file in a loop. Will i be able to write the messages for the rest of the iterations, if after the first iteration , i open that file in a notepad and check out if the message is being written properly?

If you open the file before the filewriter opens it, the file might get locked causing an IOException when you try to open the file. But that only happens when the file is locked by the program that opens it. Notepad doesn't doen't lock the files it opens so you can safely open it. You won't see the updates that are made to the file after you open it until you reopen the file.
You could also open it in you favorite browser, then you can hit the reload button to see the latest version.

  • Report Generation Toolkit - Write cells to already open Excel file.

    Greetings,
Does anyone know a way to write numeric cell values to a worksheet in an Excel
spreadsheet that is already in memory using the Report Generation Toolkit?
I've found that if the spreadsheet is already in memory and the user has made
changes to it without saving the changes, when LabVIEW opens the reference to
the report, the user’s changes are overwritten if they have not been saved
since LabVIEW opens the last saved version of the spreadsheet.  I'm aware
that there is a setting to "display alerts" to the user but I'd
rather not do this.  I would like simply to obtain a reference to the open
spreadsheet without re-opening the spreadsheet file.
    Thanks in advance!

I do not believe this is possible to do with the report generation VIs
(although I have VERY little experience with these. If you really had
to do it this way, you could use activeX controls to manually right
values to cells in an open excel spreadsheet, but this can get rather
cumbersome. Are users changing the values in the spreadsheet while
your program is running? Is there maybe a way around this?

  • Can I use ACR tools in an image already opened in PS5?

If I have opened a RAW image in PS5.5 and it has several layers already modifying the file, can I convert the bottom layer to a smart object and then use ACR tools like de-fringing, etc.? I notice flaws in the image that would be corrected that way, and I don't want to start from scratch. I am able to make the layer a smart object. I don't know how to invoke the ACR tools.
This image arrived from Lightroom with "no Lightroom effects" chosen at transfer, if that makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance, folks.

If you open a RAW file through lightroom there may be a way have Photoshop open it as a smart Object I do no know I do not use Lightroom.  If you open the Raw file through the Bridge or Photoshop in ACR which is a Photoshop plug-in ACR can open it as a Smart Object layer in Photoshop where the embedded object is a copy of the RAW file and Adobe RAW conversion engine settings.   Embedded object can be reopened. If the embeded is a RAW File it will open in ACR.  If the embedded object is a Tiff or Jpeg file it can be openned in ACR or Phptoshop. If the embedded object is a raster layer or a grout pf layers that have been converted into a smart object these smart object can be opened in Photoshop.  When a Smart Obkect is reopen in ACR or Photoshop it opens as a temporay work document the when changes are made and committen by ACR or Photoshop  the original reopened smart object will be upstare with the changes made to the work document .
If you open the RAW file through Lightroom or ACR into Phoroshop as a RGB image a background layer its a raster layer converted to a smart opject it would not open in ACR. However there is a Photoshop Script you can Download from Russell Brows web site that you could  run with the Background Layer the active Photoshop target. The Script would save the Active layer as a Tiff file and then Place the tiff file into the current document as a smart object layer where the active layer is.  This Placed Smart Object layer contains a copy of a tiff file that was saved using the active layer after the place operation the Tiff file and the old active(ie background image) layer are deleted.  If your ACR preferences are set to open Tiff files doubling click on the smart object icon in that layer in the layers palette will open the Tiff in ACR.

  • Drag image file from Windows Explorer to a new layer in an open file

I want to know if it's possible in CS3 to drag an image file from Windows Explorer into an already open file in PS.  Right now when I drag over, it opens that file.  I want to have it where the image is inserted as a new layer into the existing open file.  is that possible?

Hi, I'm using CS4 and would love to be able to drag n drop straight to a new layer in an existing file.
At present when I drag n drop I get a new image in PS. I then have to move this to my existing image. I have tried draging to the tab, the layer box, the image, the blank space, using shift, ctrl & alt.
A simple how to would be nice

  • Please fix: Common Open File Dialog Box to support Favorites (Follow-up: Better provisioning in the Windows client)

    One more thing:
What's missing is favorites is a way to use the favorites space in the Common Open File Dialog Box.
Please obsolete or (re)develop components in Windows, so those components support any new workflows in Windows!
On example of an application where you cannot use Favorites is Adobe Photoshop. It uses the Common Open File Dialog Box in Windows (which does not support Favorites).
Comparing Finder (MacOS) with Windows Explorer - you "seem" to have the option of using favorites to pin folders.
Well, if your application calls Windows to use the Common Open File Dialog Box - it's actually NOT POSSIBLE AT ALL to navigate to the user concepts (user folders) pinned to favorites.
Again, the favorites namespace is completely unused (not provisioned) out-of-the-box. That's may be ok, however it's not fully implemented across Windows and just another example of stuff accumulating up to being unusable.
What's missing is favorites is a way to use the favorites space in the Common Open File Dialog Box.

  • Write arrays into a text file in different columns at different times

    Hi,
I have a problem write data into a text file. I want to write 4 1D arrays into a text file. The problem is that I need to write it at different time and in different column (in other word, not only append the arrays).
Do you have an idea to solve my problem?
    Thank you

A file is long a linear string of data (text). In order ro insert columns, you need to rewrite the entire file, because colums are interlaced over the entire lenght of the file.
    So:
    read file into 2D array
    insert columns using array operations
write resulting 2D array to file again.
(Only if your colums are guaranteed to be fixed width AND you know the final number of colums, you could write the missing columns as spaces and then overwrite later. Still, it will be painful and inefficient, because column data are not adjacent in the file.)

how to open file in Acrobat XI
I am not sure I understand your question but I think you are looking for this.
    1. Right click on the PDF file.
    2. Click on "Open With". You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it.
    Alternatively,
1a. On Windows, open the Start Menu (bottom left of the screen).
1b. On Mac, open the Spotlight (top right of the screen).
    2. Type Acrobat. You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it. Acrobat will open.
    4. Goto File -> Open. Locate the file and click Open.
If Acrobat is not displayed anywhere, it means that the software is not installed on your machine.
    To verify:
1a. On Windows, open Control Panel, then open Programs and Features.
1b. On Mac, open a Finder Window, then click Applications on the left.
    2. Look for Adobe Acrobat in the list.
If Acrobat is not present, download and install from the website http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html or using Adobe Download Assistant.

  • How can I view open files?

I am trying to view currently open files as I can do in Windows 7 by hovering over the task bar items. How do I see a list of currently open files on the mac without closing or minimizing the window I am using?

Not having windows, I am not sure what you are after, exactly.
    What OS are you using?
To pretty much see all open files...
In Snow Leopard you can use Expose.
    Mac 101: Exposé
In Lion you can use Mission Control.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/mission-control.html
In either, if you want to see what files are open only for a given application, you can click and hold on the appropriate dock icon.

  • Error message when finalizing...file already open with write protection

I just created my first movie in i Movie. It's about 9 minutes long. When I tried to finalize it it worked for a couple of hours and then came up with a message "unable to prepare project for publishing because an error occurred (file already open with write protection)". What does this mean? I thought I had closed all the files I was using. There was no error number. I tried it 3 times and got the same message. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

AppleMan, I just checked that and it looks like Time Machine isn't open. I checked it by going to finder>applications>R click on time machine. It gave me the option to "open" which makes me think it's already closed. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking?
I made another movie that was just a couple of clips and it finalized fine. On that movie, I had some MTS clips and I converted them to mp4's so iMovie could read them.
In the one that didn't work I did clip one of the movies before I imported it into iMovie. It saved as a .mov instead of a .mp4. Would that make a difference? I checked all of the files and none of them are listed as locked, so I really don't get the "write protected" aspect of this error.

I'm trying to finalize/share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission."  What does this mean?  All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open.  Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?
