Using Flash in Dreamweaver
I've created flash slideshows using Flash Slideshow Maker. I
then created a simple flash file that has 3 buttons. The action on
these buttons is On (release) { loadMovie ("drawings.swf",
ss_frame);} Where drawing.swf is the name of one of the slideshows
and ss_frame is an empty movie clip. The swf I created works fine
until I load it into dreamweaver. The rollover works on the buttons
so I know it's not totally not working. But when I click on the
button to load the slideshow - nothing it just sits there.
Any ideas???
Thanks
You cannot make an all-Flash site editable in Contribute.
This would be
only one of the HUNDREDS of reasons why all-Flash sites are a
bad idea.

Strange problem using flash in dreamweaver
Ok so i'm experimenting with flash on my site. The banner came out perfect. It went onto my site just as easy. So then I wanted to play around with other flash buttons. So I made a flash link to my blog page. It worked great in dreamweaver. Then I testest it with IE and firfox and still it worked great. So I uplouded it to my site and no matter what I do it doesn't show up on the page. I looked in the code view and it's there it's just not visible. Does anyone see what I did wrong. It's right under the welcome message in code view. http://www.markspetcare.com/
Your problem may just be a matter of file naming but it could also be a targeting issue. The swf seems to be occupying the space assigned to it.
As a general practice, you should never include spaces in filenames if you plan to use them on the web.
If changing that doesn't fix the problem, then does your file load another file? If so, it's possible you didn't load that file to the server or are not properly targeting it in the Flash file. -
Flash or Dreamweaver? (Either?)
Here is today's softball/dumb question. In an effort to create my own website I have been spending a considerable amount of time learning the essentials of many Adobe programs through Lynda.com and with Adobe's CS5 Master Suite of software. Most recently I have been going through Flash tutorials. When it comes to creating a website through Adobe software I thought Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, etc were the foundation, (i.e., framework), of ALL website creation and that all other programs, Ps, Ai, Fc, etc....AND Flash where used in SUPPORT of that goal. That is they created the graphics and other animation files used within the Dreamweaver website foundational framework...but Dreamweaver was essential (using Adobe software).
The more I learn about Flash and applications such as After Effects the more confused I am becoming because, though I am unsure, it seems that Flash can be used as a foundation for a website all by itself and Dreamweaver cut out of the process all together. So my basic/fundamental/dumb question is is that correct? Though an answer to that question requires only a simple yes or no answer, and a simple yes or no answer is welcome and appreciated, any elaboration on the basic structural use of these various Adobe programs in pursuit of the goal of creating a website would be appreciated as well.Sounds like you are well on your way this your project and I wish you the best!
Just to clarify one point.. There is no such thing as a Flash Website .. only HTML, PHP, ASP etc. sites which may have some Flash content.
So I don't think it's a question on using Flash or Dreamweaver to build your site... most likely you will need both, Flash for the content, DW (or some other editor) for the page structure as well as any PHP for server side scripting you may need.
As for building your own shopping cart, I suggest you start at your bank and work back from there to your Web site, NOT the other way around. Banks are very strict about which "Gateways" they use and the Gateway company is very strict about which shopping cart they will allow to connect to there services.
If you are expecting to collect payments via credit cards, you'll most like need a Merchant Account at your bank. Check and see what it takes to get yours set up. That's the account that your Gateway service will connect to... for background info..here are a couple used by local banks here:
http://www.authorize.net/
and
http://www.firstdata.com/en_us/home
But get with your banker before going too far. Make sure that you don't have to undo some of the efforts and development because they did not meet bank or gateway specs.
Best wishes,

Using Flash 8 with Dreamweaver 8
Hi guys and gals, I am in a unfomfortable situation now. I
have awsome ideas of how I would like to implement my creative
talents in building awsome websites but I cannot seem to transfer
over what ever graphics, text, buttons to Dreamweaver. I'm creating
.swf files but when I try to open up any item created from Flash it
gets all weird. I cannot seem to save those graphics and such to
html so I keep getting like a grey box with the flash logo.
Now, moving items from Fireworks to Dreamweaver is fine but
moving items from Flash to Dreamweaver is a pain in the arse.
Also, I TOTALLY understand that Dreamweaver is a awsome
formating tool but I don't know about you guys but I feel that I
feel so restrained by using these templates. I understand that
websites need to have structure but what if you want to make
different structures for certain pages on your sight?
Yes using CSS is very customizable but MUST you have
templates to put any type of graphic on a Dreamweaver design view?
All I want to achieve is making simple graphics with Flash,
Edit those graphics with Fireworks and drop them into Dreamweaver.
That's ALL I want to do but I'm having such a hard time doing this.
I'm beginning to feel completely retarded or something but
I'm just not getting it. I've bought every dog gone book and CD on
the market but I'm just not getting this concept.
But then again, I am a beginner so slap me twice, lol.
Please for all you veterans out their, explain to me like I'm
a 12 year old. What am I doing wrong?
Also, I'm trying to build a simple mock up of a simple web
page with like 5 navigational pages. I want to have buttons,
graphics, text, sound and video just to include what most websites
have just so I can get a understanding of how to put together a web
page.
Do you guys have suggestions on this idea?
Thank you once again and god bless.>feel so restrained by using these templates
what templates? Halo? Don't.
> need to have structure but what if you want to make

No problem (see below)

Don't move - import them

see above

All the books in the world on Dreamweaver cannot replace
books/tutorials on
HTML and CSS before you get to the hair-tearing stage (oops!
too late!)

Not a veteran (well, not in experience lol!) - what you're
doing wrong is
going about using Dreamweaver like you would Word or as if
it's WYSIWYG -
it's not.
Have a look at this
http://www.w3schools.com/ on
the left, learn X/HTML and Learn CSS.
There *are* good, ready-made templates available if you want
to go down this
road, but without a grounding in HTML and CSS, you will
continue to wonder
if it's all worth it (o:

Problem Using Flash FLV Video Via Dreamweaver CS3
I have been unable to get my FLV video to play on my website.
I seem to have two problems:
1) I want the FLV file to be hosted in a different domain to
the website itself (for bandwidth reasons) and it doesn't want to
do that!
2) I would prefer to use Flash skins rather than Dreamweaver
skins as I want to offer a full-screen option but I cannot get them
to work!
If I host the FLV file on the website domain, the video plays
ok. If I change the file location in the Properties of the movie to
become the FLV located on the other domain (using full path
http://<etc>flv) then nothing
displays on that part of the page. Firebug tells me it has loaded
the AC_RunActiveContent.js and FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf but it
makes no mention of the skin file or the flv file itself ... it is
as if it just simply has not bothered with it! I suspect I am
missing something obvious but cannot find it. All help would be
appreciated. By the way, I have loaded up a crossdomain.xml file to
the root of the domain that hosts the flv file but that didn't seem
to make any difference!
The second challenge is that ideally I would like to use a
Flash skin so that I can have a full-screen option and so that I
can have the menu bar under the video itself. However, I can't even
get that option to work when I host the whole lot on the normal
webserver! I am suspecting that it might be something that might
suddenly start working when I fix problem 1. However, if anybody
has any links to a page that provides simple instructions about how
to do this task I would greatly appreciate it!
Many thanks for your help!1) Why not post your video to YouTube or Google Video and
then embed the
code they provide into your website. This way their servers
carry the
bandwidth for you and the scripted embed code will work on
your site.
2) If Video sharing isn't an option, and you need more
bandwidth, you can
get domain hosting for as little as $4.95 - 6.95/month at
Bluehost,
Lunarpages or Web Hosting Pad.

I have created an animation in Flash and published it as a html5 animation.
How do I get this into an exisitng web page using Dreamweaver?Hi Nancy,
I am using Flash CC2014 which publishing as html.
(When I publish as html with edge animate you can create an oam file which allow the inserting of the resulktant animation into a web page)
The files produced with Flash CC 2014 are: html try.html and html.try
I was hoping I could use some way to just insert the html animation produced by Flash.
Source Code in html file is ....

Is there a way to convert from Flash to Dreamweaver???
Hi,
this is my first forum question on here, so I hope I am explaining this okay.
I have a Flash website ready to go and what I would like to do (after the recent news about flash I was advised to change it) is export the file to dreamweaver and load to my website that way.
Is there a way to either
1. open flash files through dreamweaver and make active
2. just open working .psd files through dreamweaver and make active there.
3. just continues useing flash(??)
4. Just change the .file name in my folder???(is that possible, I doubt it)
If there isnt any way to convert this file, can someone suggest a good dreamweaver tutorial or something thats helpful
Thanks!Hi, Welcome to the Dreamweaver forum.
Try this:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/wallaby/
It's limited in what it can do. But it might be enough for you to squeak by.
Good luck and let us know how you make out with it.

Using Flash in DW extension - Security Settings
I have a Flash SWF in my Dreamweaver extension, and I pass values between the SWF and DW using the DW API.
However, to get it to work locally, I need to add the SWF file as a security exception, which is quite inconvenient to potential end-users.
Is there a way to use Flash in my extension without requiring the end-user to update their security exceptions (or that provides an easy way to do so)?
Thanks!Does anyone have any idea how this is done? The start page
for Dreamweaver is also a Flash SWF file called welcome.swf, that
in turn invokes various dw API calls. Trouble is, I have no idea
what command they are using MMExecute, getURL, fscommand? -
Using Flash to Rotate Images - how???
I'm trying to do something that I thought was standard/easy in flash. I would like to rotate photos on my Dreamweaver website homepage (dissolve from one photo the next) - like a slideshow. How do I do this and then incorporate into Dreamweaver?
Is it using Flash animation, or Flash slideshow/photo gallery? Can I embed that right into my homepage?
Thank you!As far as I know it is not a standard/easy thing to do in Flash, although I do not have the latest version so I cannot speak for any such built-in feature they might have added. Most people that have a Flash slideshow either purchased it or created it from their own come-to-know how. You could try searching Google using "Flash slideshow tutorial" and you might find something you can create yourself.
Alternatively, you might also want to look into using one of the likely many jQuery-based slideshows that are available. It won't require you to learn Flash and should utlimately be as easy as adding code to a web page. If you Google "jQuery slideshow tutorial" you should find something you can get working fairly easily.
Either way you go, you should end up with something you can put in your homepage. -
Do you know how to use Flash? can you help?
hi all,
Do you know how to use Flash?
I have been trying for months to find someone who can use
flash, who can help me, with no luck.
I need my links on my website updating, just a couple of them
need the text changing as i need
to change the name/title of some pages. I have tried to do it
myself (using a trial version of flash,
as i dont have flash). the site was made using dreamweaver.
the files are .FLA
and before anyone says 'get the person who made the site to
do it'....He wont, ive tried.
when i tried to change them myself i cocked them up and now
they dont work at all, see my
website and you will see; www.stevenallenphotography.co.uk
so, if you can use flash please can you help me? all i need
doing is the file updating with some
of the link titles/names changing, i.e. one link is
'exhibitions' which needs changing to 'published work',
please get in touch if you can help.

Flash in Dreamweaver???
I have uploaded and displayed flash in dreamweaver before but
for some reason i cannot get it to work now. Does this have
anything to do with CSS? The file is succesfully on the server as
you can see at www.zcarpentry.com/dropmenZCI.swf but when going to
www.zcarpentry.com the blank space on the left is where the menu
should be. PLEASE HELP!!! I am self taught and think i may be
overlooking something here is my source code:

pluginspage="

type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed>
</object>Self taught developers usually don't get some of the finer
usability points.
If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
In your case, the most profound problem is #2 - since you
have an all-Flash
page, you will not find much love from the search engines.
And even though
Google is saying it now scans Flash links, I am skeptical.

My problem is recreating the align right effect while keeping
the menu fixed using flash AS2 mostly for re sizing as well as
different screen sizes.
While i can do one or the other but both is just not
happening.
I have tried all sorts of weird and wonderful things but as
yet, alas no easy/simple solution :(
I must admit it has been a long time since i have been here
but.. I thought if someone could have a quick look and maybe please
give me a few pointers ??
Anything at all would be better than what i have now ...
Thanks for your timeThe link again is I forgot to add http to the link before, but it should have worked.

Locate the ul.MenuBarVertical li or ul.MenuBarHorizontal li rule.
Change the width property to a desired width, or change the property to auto to remove a fixed width, and add the property and value white-space: nowrap; to the rule.
Locate the ul.MenuBarVertical ul or ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul rule.
Change the width property to a desired width (or change the property to auto to remove a fixed width).
Locate the ul.MenuBarVertical ul li or ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li rule.
Add the following properties to the rule: float: none; and background-color: transparent;.
Delete the width: 8.2em; property and value.
Under IE it's broken, under the other browsers it works.
There need to be more IE HACKS added. -
Use Flash in .lbi files

But when I cut and paste the HTML code for the Flash animation into the Library Item in Code View, I don't get the error, and everything seems to work fine. What's the deal? I really need to be able to use Flash in Library Items. Thanks for your help...

If I need to paste a single code fragment into my web pages, I often use my Snippets folder for this. Frequently used code fragments go into the snippets folder for quick insertion into web pages (in code view, of course).
For repeating site elements that could change from time to time, I use Server-Side Includes (SSI). Edit one file, upload to server. Done.

Integrating a little Flash in Dreamweaver
Hello All,
I am a newbie and just finished a Flash class. However we
didn't hardly talk at all about integrating Flash with Dreamweaver.
What I want to do is create an intro page that has Flash and
then you have to click on a Button to go into the main site. I
understand a little of Behaviors and Actionscripting so thought
that I would do the GetURL Behavior (going off memory here) to get
me from the Intro page to the main Dreamweaver site.
Question is... do I export an SWF file, put that in a
index.html page for the Intro page and then link to the main
Dreamweaver site but have the main site not an "Index" file but
another name...maybe main.html.
Is this what people do? Or do they take the generated .html
file from Flash (its published) and just use that as their intro.
Naming it index.html. And then linking to another *.html created
with Dreamweaver but that is not saved as index.html.
Also, how often are people doing a PURE Flash website and not
mixing the Flash and Dreamweaver together? Just curious.
Thanks for clarifying.
ComputerkittenIt's the new IE functionality (introduced in the April 2006
patch update for
IE6 and made compulsory by the June 2006 patch update) to
comply with a
ruling against Microsoft's patent infringement.
It's triggered by the <object>, <embed> and
<applet> tags on a page. Flash
is normally imported into a page via the <embed> tag
hence it's affected by
the change. Content imported into a webpage by these methods
is known as
Active Content and now requires an extra click to activate it
and interact
with it.
The workaround ultimately rests with website designers who
are now advised
by Microsoft and Adobe etc to implement the controls for
Active Content in
their sites indirectly via Javascript rather than direct HTML
tags.
If you have DW8, the 8.0.2 updater will insert Flash with
Adobe's
recommended Active Content fix already included in the code.
With any other
version of DW, you'll have to do it manually.

Using FLash Text & Buttons Links
They have worked fine in the past, but my web pages that use
Flash buttons or text now require two mouse clicks to make the
links work work.
This problem occurred some months ago and is applicable to
all my web pages, some made years ago and some very recent, though
the most recent pages don't use them, I just don't know when this
started as at first I thought it was just on my computer.
www.kyteweb.net/pooleharbour is an example - why do the links
need two clicks - I'm lost, help gratefully received.
RonThis is a well known issue in Internet Explorer 6 & 7.
Doesn't affect other
browsers.
